‘Resonance’ is supposed to be a dream – that’s when your soulmate is chosen for you. And everyone on the ice planet has hooked up with a big, hunky soulmate of their own…except me. So do I want a mate? Heck yeah. More than anything, all I’ve ever wanted is to be loved by someone.Except that the soulmate chosen for me? My least favorite person on the darn ice planet. Haeden’s the most cranky, … cranky, disapproving, unpleasant, overbearing male alien…so why is it that my body sings when he gets close? Why is he working so hard to prove to me that he’s not as awful as I think he is?
I hate him…don’t I?

iam on a roll with this whole Ice Planet Barbarian series. Probably would have been better if I had come to the series as it was published one book at a time, but no, I found it with the series written and feel compelled to read one book right after another. Sheesh. I just have finished getting to know Josie and Haeden who have growled and lashed out at each other for 18 months and now havehave “resonance.” Talk about the rocky path to true love. It is another fine adventure full of sarcastic, ironic, Earth-filled idiom dialogue from Josie — a hoot. Poor Haeden — often at a loss with Josie but willing to do whatever is needed to care for her. Abducted Earth women and big, blue hunks of male barbarians — what a combination and a very entertaining read. As with other books in the series there is continuity with previous characters and there is quite a bit of sex (you can skim through it and still enjoy crazy HEA scienceI enjoyed it a lot. I have followed the series and must admit I did not like Haeden. So when he finally mated with Josie I was right along with her upset, disappointed and hurt. Josie has been through so much in life. Life has been s***ty to her, but she always kept moving forward and never gave up. She was strong, beautiful and resilient. So I admired the fact she did not immediately fall for the hero. Haeden was so unlikable I did not see how he could redeem himself but he did it! He has his own traumas that have made him insecure and appear cold. However they both want same thing: a mate and children. They just show it differently. The journey to their HEA is long and emotional. Josie fighrs it tooth and nails at first, and I admired her strength to fight for her ideals Nobody should settle and she deserved her HEA.But this book is my favorite my top one and Liz , Kira then Harlow’s are after.
I love Ruby Dixon’s Ice-planet series. Her characters are diverse, lovable, and utterly addictive.
I’ve loved Haedan from the beginning and oh, boy was I so excited to read this book! This is a great enemies-to-lovers (kinda) romance, mixed with a whole lot of sweet and spicy. Easily the steamiest of the series so far. The sex is On. Point.
For a while I was mad at the book because Josie was angry about the resonance due to his rude nature. Granted, but she continued to be angry at him for the little things and they didn’t talk. She never gave him a fair shot, and I found it frustrating. Thankfully, we weren’t kept away too long though, which is why this review moved up to a 5 star one.
Everything about Haeden I love though. I enjoy how he’s surly but he cares so much about Josie. How he gives her space when she needs it, but still remains close and protective. How he acted afterwards when she accepted him.
Yet another winner of this addictive series. How do I get to ARCs when I have this series demanding I continue?
I ended up really loving Haeden in this book. Even though he’s been grumpy and ill-tempered toward Josie, he really had a huge heart and very sad back story. While I definitely understood Josie’s determination and disbelief, it was sad to see her act so harsh toward Haeden sometimes. It was very enjoyable though to see her guard go down and eventually see Haeden for the sweet man he was and to have a happily ever after with him.
So Josie is another human on this ice planet that has not resonated to any unmated males. There are a few of them left. She is the last human not mated. Now Josie is talkative and seems to get on a few peoples nerves. She has like no filter when talking and not like bad mouth but just talks and doesn’t think about what she is saying. She has been wanting to find her mate and when she does it is to someone she does not want. Now there is one guy in the tribe that comes off rude to her and they both are arguing when they are around each other. It is the whole enemies to lovers thing going on. Haeden is like not wanting this but he knows you cannot deny it. However Josie has different ideas about it.
Then she does something crazy and Haeden follows to make sure nothing happens. Now this was an adventure and at some points scary as heck. These two are sometimes funny and infuriating but they make it work. The truth comes out and eyes are now fully open to see what is in front of them. I think this may be one of my favorites in the series.
Barbarian’s Mate: A SciFi Alien Romance (Ice Planet Barbarians Book 7) by Ruby Dixon — This is on Kindle Unlimited. We were all completely sure that when Josie’s IUD came out that she would mate with Haeden? Yes! And if you weren’t then you are a silly! Josie wasn’t my favorite leading lady (though she gets better in book 6), but Haeden is my new book husband! This one was fantastic! Happy Reading!
Barbarian’s Mate (Ice Planet Barbarians #6) A Sci Fi Alien Serial Romance by Ruby Dixon. This is Josie’s and Haeden’s story. Haeden’s story is tragic and explains so much about him which made me really want to give him a hug. The cootie has chosen, and they are unlikely mates which leads us to a story about enemies to lovers. Josie can be highly annoying, but she is also hilarious. I found myself frustrated at times with them both, but I love them anyway.
Bring on the next book.
enjoyment and captivating
I read a number of reviews where readers hated Josie. Honestly, I just don’t see it. I think the author does an excellent job explaining Josie’s mindset. I felt like I understood her hesitation regarding Haeden. All she ever wanted, and what she never had, was a family. Her dream includes having children and raising them in a loving home with two parents that love each other. She believes that Haeden hates her and she has trouble picturing her ideal future with someone who can’t stand her. Her way of protecting herself is to lash out, which unfortunately hurts Haeden along the way. He also says hurtful things to her until they get to know each other better. It takes time for Haeden and Josie to allow themselves to be vulnerable with each other, sharing their fears and secrets, before they can appreciate each other. A vulnerable Haeden is swoon-worthy and sexy. There is plenty of heat and certainly some angst in this one. Their HEA is especially sweet because it is hard won. This is written in first person with dual POV.
I like this story a lot. In the first part of the book, I wanted to smack Josie upside the head, but as the story progressed I started to like her more. Haeden made me want to hug him. There are a lot of feels in this story.
Josie is the last human female without a mate. She keeps hoping for ‘resonance’ when her khui will pick her soulmate. Everyone else has already experienced it and Josie wants to have her big, sexy alien soulmate, sooner rather than later. She looks forward to being wanted and loved by someone. But when Josie’s khui picks her mate, she is anything but happy. Her khui has picked Haeden the alien she hates and that hates her as well. Josie can’t believe that the chauvinistic grumpy alien is her mate. Haeden starts working to prove to Josie that he’s not that awful, but is that possible?
Josie and Haeden both have pretty awful backstories so it makes sense that they would be together and help each other get past their pasts. I loved the way Haeden took care of Josie, even when she didn’t know that he was. I felt like their story was much more serious than the usual sweetly funny, but it was still good and entertaining. I’ve read this book through Kindle Unlimited and listened to it through Audible Escape. I recommend reading or listening to this book!
Fave!
I think this one was my favorite by far. I love how Ruby allows them to grow and learn from each other. I also liked how she showed a person with a disability over coming it and showing they are more than what they have.
the fact the Metlaks was used to show that because something is different doesn’t mean their any less intelligent as you.
I love this series, but I didn’t love Josie in this book. She was way too judgemental and self-absorbed about the mating at first. I felt really bad for Haeden. That said, the rest of the book was awesome.
I listened to the audible version of this book and it was a great addition to this series. I look forward to listening to more of this author’s stories.
This is my absolute favorite book (so far) in this series! Josie and Haeden seem like the most unlikely pair, but they are really quite a bit alike. Which is probably why they butt heads at every turn. Long before they resonate, they completely get on each other’s nerves. Which makes it nearly impossible for Josie to accept that the gruff and rude Haeden is to be her mate. She fights against it so hard that she makes both of them ill from the effects of their thwarted resonance. And she’s so mean to him that you almost feel sorry for the guy, except that he acts like such a jerk to her. Only later do we learn the true extent of their sad pasts and how much each has been effected by them. Once they finally start talking and sharing things, they begin to understand each other and bond. After some additional trials and tribulations, they finally submit and give in to resonance. But while that problem is finally solved, they have even more issues with which to deal. Quite a lot happens in this volume, and it directly sets the stage for the next two novels in the series, as well as indirectly for the related “Icehome” books. A steamy, romantic, action-filled sci-fi tale that is a quick, fun read!
I’m not sure I understand the low rated reviews on this book. Yes it was harder to read than some of the others due to the content and what it made you feel, but it was still a 5 star book. Well written, good dialogue, unique character voices, great world building, characters that you care about and are emotionally invested in. I can’t ask for more in a book.
Ruby’s writing shows that everyone responds differently in a crises. Everyone has room to grow and change and that’s what this book is about. The characters start off shallow and selfish and bickering and immature and we get to follow their journey as they grow together and learn to put each other’s desires first. To me, it makes it a more realistic read than a “love at first sight” romance. Just because I don’t like every choice a character makes doesn’t mean a book isn’t worth reading or enjoyable. I recommend this whole series.
A Barbarian’s Mate is book six in the Ice Planet Barbarians series by Ruby Dixon series. This one we get Josie and Haeden’s story.
These two have been fighting with each other though the series. They think they hate each other, but maybe it’s something else.
I had thought I wrote a review for this book, but when I went looking for it I didn’t have it. Then I starting thinking well I wrote it, but in my head over and over again. I was so pissed off about this book. Why you might be think? We’ll I’ll tell you.
One word SELFISH. Josie absolutely ruined this book. I’m so pissed off at her and everything she did; even after Haeden talks to her about his previous mate, who wasn’t a mate. It just hurt my heart. Poor Haeden is stuck with this selfish b***h. I felt so bad for him.
Let me count the ways Joise ruined this for me. She holds out on the mating, she wants the coody thing removed and a new one put in, and last she runs away with no intention of ever returning. During all of this she doesn’t talk to him. When she does talk she doesn’t put his feelings and issues into play, she only thinks about herself. She’s lived with the blue aliens long enough to know that they don’t understand humans, our ways, our thinking, and so on… It wasn’t until the 48% range that she finally shares her story and talks to him. Then she realizes he actually cares and she should have given him a chance sooner. Then around the 60% she finally sees that Haeden is like all the other males that are mated. That they are sweet, devoted, over protective, but in a good way and that they are each other’s whole worlds.
Good god I was and am still pissed off. This one character ruined the book. I’m currently taking a break from this series. Before I was buying the next one after I finished the other, but now I just need a break.
You might be wondering why I read the whole book when I knew deep down nothing and I mean nothing could redeem Josie in my eyes. Well, I’m wondering that myself. One thing was we find the spaceship that Kira from Barbarian Lover took down and two more human women are in those cryo-genic pod things. I wanted to know more about that, but really I should have DNF this title. It wasn’t worth reading the whole thing and even the surprise with Liz didn’t make this title any better. I don’t think I’ve had a character piss me off so much like Josie did.
Barbarian’s Mate was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.
