Barbarian Alien

I love this story. The characters are relatable and interesting. The interactions between them had me cracking up a lot. There are a lot of feels in this story.

Liz was one of twelve humans that were abandoned by their abductors on an alien ice planet. To live on the ice planet requires them to take a khui, a symbiont that alters the host to survive. Liz called it a cootie and she decided that her cootie was a jerk because it also chose a mate for her. Her cootie chose the biggest grumpiest alien on the planet!

There was so much that I loved about this story. Raahosh made me want to cry sometimes and smile at others. He was so sincere. Liz was snarky and sometimes downright ornery which was highly entertaining! I loved how their story ended. I recommend reading this book or listening to it! I listened to it through Audible Escape and I own a copy of the ebook.

I’m so blown away of how much I’m enjoying this series. This is a new genre for me. I never expected to find this romantic alien love story to be so good and so HOT! I devoured this book. As I’m writing this review I’m super eager to start the next book. I’m super excited about the fact there is so many more to come. Truly this a great reading escape.

This is Liz and Raahosh story. This two couldn’t more alike. They both hunt, both are very stubborn. The only difference is where she can talk herself off he’s more reserve and quite. Liz tripped me out. She so outspoken and the things she says! She’s funny. But my heart broke for Raahosh with past and his current life. He means good but I could see why he’s a bit misunderstood. Yet He’s super sweet and caring. I truly loved him!

“My mate,” he murmurs. “My Liz. My everything.”

He breaks the tribe code, and takes her away. He can’t help it. He falls head over heals for her and it’s his way of taking of her. She spends most her time fighting what she feels for him. She blames the cuttie. But once she gives in, she realizes he’s home.

Their story is super sexy and very hot. But very HOT!! It’s super enjoyable that makes for a great escape! It’s not a long either which makes for a perfect treat!

Mix one sarcastic human and a quiet scarred Barbarian Hunter who knows he has finally found his mate and what do you get? One heck of a good book but when Rahoosh kidnaps her and keeping her captive until they mate, even though he knows that he’ll have to suffer the consequences set by Vektal for kidnapping her to force a possible mating. Their planet have only 4 women and a lot of men that once told there are women on the slave ship are excited to have possible mates.

Only with Liz fighting her “cootie” every step of the way, she’ll have to teach her mate how to understand and adapt both of their traditions including her hunting with him and sharing chores together. When he’s injured during a hunt Liz will step up and hunt and care for her mate while his Khui heals his broken body. When they are finally found Liz will have to find a way using her sarcasm to convince Vektal that she’ll do anything to stay with her mate when Rahoosh’s is exiled. But will all of her sarcastic words give her back her mate once he is exiled from the colony? Can they figure out a way to be together again while waiting for their kit to be born?

Liz is not my favorite character in this series. She’s brash and rude and kind of obnoxious. But she’s also loving and caring and extremely funny. And she and Raahosh – ultimately – make a great pair. It totally pissed me off what the tribe (mostly Vektal) did to them at the near-end of the story (even if I do understand his reasoning)! The way that Liz handles that is just awesome. As is the fact that they end up together in the end.

I just love these big blue freaky barbarians. The audiobooks simply can’t come out fast enough for me, and its been really hard not to binge through the print copies on Kindle Unlimited. But the narrators do a good job with the story and they keep me entertained as I drive and clean the house, so I’m committed to waiting on the audio versions.

Raahosh is the biggest and scariest alien on the Ice Planet, having lost one of his horns and bearing multiple scars. While life on the Ice Planet is hard enough, Rahash had a harder childhood than most of his comrades. These days he spends most of his time hunting in solitude, providing for his clan, but with little companionship. So when our blue guys find a spaceship full of stranded human (captive) girls and learn that they can mate, he takes matters into his own hands and carries off his female to a private cave to fill her with a little blue baby. Despite his imposing appearance, I though Rahash was sweet and wish that our heroine would have warmed to him a little sooner.

Liz is our heroine in this installment, and she is a snarky little thing who was not afraid to speak her mind. In reality, she rarely shut up. She had a bit of a chip on her shoulder… but she had just been kidnapped by aliens so I tried to forgive her that. I didn’t like the mixed signals that she sent to Rahash int he beginning, no really meant yes when she said it. I was worried that this was going to set us up for disaster later in the book. But once she accepted the khui and mating, these two were good together. I also liked that Liz was self-sufficient and capable of hunting, making weapons, and general survival.

So this series is just a bit of ridiculous steamy fun. I love the world building and the aliens (and their ridges). I often find myself laughing out loud at some of the ridiculous aspects, and I now know I can count on this series to keep me entertained with each installment.

Barbarian Alien is book two in the Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon. Here we have Liz and Raahosh story.

The world and characters Ms. Dixon has created are fascinating. Each character is unique and you can connect to them. I like the dual-POV’s. They help give us both Liz and Raahosh perspective.

We have a couple here who need to work on their communication. Raahosh is not a talker and Liz, well she talks too much. Raahosh has some deep wounds in his soul that need healing. Having a mate gives him that chance to finally heal and have a family, but it doesn’t come easily. Liz puts up a fight.

The one thing I really didn’t like was Liz’s treatment of Raahosh. I dislike a heroine who will smack a hero. I get that she is frustrated with her situation and that many if not all of her choices have been taken away from her, but to treat Raahosh the way she does with her actions and words, was disappointing. It made me dislike Liz.

Finally around the 35% range Liz has a revelation and gets her ass in gear. She apologizes and gives him a chance and starts to learn about the world. Once they progress, I finally fell into the story. They have a few challenges to get through with the tribe; before they can be together. It’s sad, sweet, and sexy.

I’m very much enjoying this Sci-Fi Romance series. Even though Barbarian Alien was not at the top of my list in this series. I still enjoyed it enough to go out and buy the next book. All the characters have enthralled me.
