I enjoyed this story, my first by Belle Brooks. It started off a little different than other books I have read but that made it all the more enjoyable as I kept reading. The comedy of errors that happens with Miranda from the beginning are unusual. I can’t imagine ending up in her situation because of some cake!
You will laugh a lot and possibly even cry a little. There is lots of alpha male in this story but in a good way. The heat is panty melting and fan worthy. It has a few moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
A book well worth reading!
4 1/2 stars
Holy heck this story really does start with a bang!
Miranda Sikes gets a lot more than she bargained for after dragging a random guy into a wedding cake tasting shop, a lot more. Enter one Joe Haggerty.
Oh my, poor Miranda, even though she really acted in a crazy manner in the beginning, she didn’t deserve to go through everything she experienced. She’s very naive on the one hand yet not on the other. I really liked the way she ended up being so brutally honest with herself. Haggerty is a very protective and caring character, yes it was his role but it’s more than that, he actually seemed to have a heart.
Although the main topic of this story is serious there are quite a few delightfully funny scenes. This is the reason for the extra half a star as it really added to the story and I did laugh out loud with glee. One of my favourites is when Miranda explains about Haggerty’s defective sperm, too funny. The way she continually says ‘Hiyah’ as though she’s the reigning martial arts champion is hilarious too.
A thoroughly entertaining story that has heaps of action, drama and suspense as well as romance.
This book was so much more than I was expecting.
It starts off simply enough with University student Miranda Sikes grabbing an innocent passerby off the street to act as her fake fiance so she can eat free wedding cake at her favorite cake shop. Haggerty doesn’t know what’s happening, but he’s more than a little entranced by the girl who dragged him into a cake shop under false pretences. She’s flaky and ditzy… but, he knows he’s not the one for her and makes a hasty exit.
Miranda is left like a ‘Prince(ss) Charming’, of fairytale land, only instead of a shoe that dropped on the ground its a phone. A mad-cap race follows as she tries to track her ‘intended’ down, where she loses her shoe, her mind and becomes embroiled in the craziest fight for her life.
Miranda and Haggerty have a bit of a love/hate relationship to start off, she’s always trying to find a way out of the unbelievable situation she’s found herself in.
In my opinion, although this story is funny here and there, it’s more suspenseful and dramatic than a regular rom/com. But, it’s still a really, really good story. It’s fast-paced and has plenty going on. Definitely worth a read.
Talk about being at the right place at the wrong time. But Miranda brought that on herself because of cake. I enjoyed Bang Bang. I loved Haggerty! Miranda not so much. She was cute in her own way but I didn’t care for her but they make it work as a couple. Belle knows how to keep a reader on their toes. I am disappointed in the ending. I feel like there could be more. The book is filled with drama, action, suspense and will make you laugh at times.
