ParkerI can’t escape the past no matter how fast or how far I run. I’m broken and damaged, and nothing will change that. Not after my husband died overseas and I was left alone. All I can do is keep moving forward. But what I don’t expect is one cop in particular to get under my skin.Making me want something more.He hates me. Everywhere I turn, he’s there, watching me.Waiting for me to screw up. … there, watching me.
Waiting for me to screw up.
Again.
I’m not going to give up, though.
Not when I finally found something that makes me happy.
I know how short life can be and I’m not backing down.
Remy Townsend doesn’t stand a chance once I make up my mind.
After all, we grew up together.
And I know every button to press to get what I want.
Remy
One drunken promise is going to ruin my life.
I told him I’d watch out for his wife if he died.
The task was easy enough when I was overseas.
All I had to do was send a letter, or make a phone call.
But coming home and seeing her will be my undoing.
She’s everywhere I go.
Everywhere I turn.
Now, I can’t take my eyes off her even when I want to.
Keeping her safe means I have to stay away.
Because the thoughts going through my head …
Well they’re enough to send me straight to hell.
Parker Hayes is quickly invading every aspect of my life.
One drunken promise… That’s what it always circles back to.
I’ve been trained to go balls to the wall with every mission.
Never back down. Never surrender. Never walk away.
Even if what we have becomes collateral damage.

Balls to the Wall is my first April Canavan book but it won’t be my last. She has me hooked on the Birch Police Department Series. I had no expectations going in but Canavan wrote the kind of book I love.
There was only one part of the book that kept me from giving it 5 stars. It’s Parker’s confession about Danny. That didn’t make sense to me and I couldn’t make it make sense. If it happened that way I just think certain things wouldn’t have followed.
Remy is battling himself from the start of this book. And what I thought was going to be the reason why, wasn’t. And I have to say I was relieved. Parker was broken, sad and struggling to function daily. While she did what she had to she was lost. When these two are thrown together and Parker it was amazing. The past was there haunting them as much as the stalker was. When secrets come out the weight that is lifted I could feel. Remy’s relationship with Nox is perfect. I loved them together. There’s this immediate connection between the two that just happens.
I loved the characters in this book not just Parker and Remy but the side characters as well. Canavan sets up book two in this series perfectly throughout this book and never takes anything away from Remy and Parker. Linc and Kennedy’s story is going to be amazing and broken.
Balls to the Wall has an amazing plot that was filled with amazing characters and great writing.
Oh my goodness the emotions in this book…wow just wow!! Parker man she’s an amazing woman and to be put through everything she was and STILL be nice is just beyond awesome! When I read that this had military men I was like I gotta read it and then to find out they are Marines was better. Remy has always loved Parker but he was definitely an a$$hole to her. I can’t believe all the ugliness although to some extent I can understand. The drama n suspense with the emotions will getcha. Oh n will her secret stay a secret? I want to read the next book!!

After reading Bent, I couldn’t wait to find out the story between Remy and Parker!
Parker and Remy have so much history together. But feelings changed, someone got rejected, and the course of both of their lives were forever altered. Both of them regret some of their words and actions.
I was completely engrossed from the very beginning! It took a little bit for most of the story of what really happened to be revealed. And there were a few shocks that I definitely wasn’t expecting. I loved how strong Parker was and had to be. My heart broke for her and everything she went through.
At one point, I really felt that someone should have knocked some sense into Remy. And then reasons were revealed, and then my heart broke for Remy, too.
I loved them both and the amazing chemistry between them. And Nox was so adorable. I did like the way Danny was involved in the story.
I’ll admit that I thought the story surrounding the threats were leading one way and I was way off! So I was kept guessing until everything was revealed. My heart was in my throat for a while there.
The last chapter was so hysterical that I had to mention it! Linc is quite the character! March 30th can’t come soon enough! I’m desperate to find out what happens between him and Kennedy!!

This is the 1st in a new series and what an emotional roller coaster journey this story is! Parker is a widow and single mom to her little boy Nox, and Remy is a K9 officer in the police department. Remy had loved Parker for years but after he pushed her away and left to join the marines, she is left heartbroken and marries Danny who is in their group of close-knit friends. When Danny is killed in the line of duty, Remy cannot forget his drunken promise to look after Parker. This is a beautifully written story which is filled with emotions, heartbreak, suspense, danger, secrets, lies, friendships, family, and humorous, which all leads to a touching and moving storyline. I loom forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Grab some tissues! You will need them! It was an emotional roller coaster! This is a “second chance love story” but Its complicated!!! Remy and Parker were like besties growing up, wanted to be a couple but one night change everything. Regrets, miss-understandings, and the “what ifs” are huge deal here! Its a mystery reading it because the author gives you bits and pieces of that faithful night and flashbacks and your dying to know the full story! Grieve is a bitch and guilt is even worse sometimes. It was raw and the characters were not perfect. I think thats what made it special.
Parker and Remy were raised in the same small town and shared the same group of best friends. Remy tells her he doesn’t want her and sends her right into Danny’s arms. They are deployed together and he promises Danny he will look out for her and their baby if anything were to happen to him. 6 years later when Remy returns he tries to look out for Parker and Nox from afar. Circumstances throw them together, can they forgive each other in order to find happiness?
This was my first read by April Canavan. I liked the story but I was a little lost with the history. At one point I went to see if maybe I had started in the middle of a series. I would have liked a prologue in the past to maybe start out. The author gives the history as glimpses into the past throughout the story so I did eventually figure it all out. Otherwise I really enjoyed this read and will be interested in the other books in the series as they come out. Nox and Daisy are wonderful additions and made me laugh and smile. The author created just enough suspense to keep me on the edge of my seat. Great characters I am looking forward to getting to know them better.
The author has given us characters that we can connect with and we are pulled into their lives. The story keeps you turning the pages with fear, danger, suspense and love.

This blurb really intrigued me right from the start and I was not disappointed. It was raw and heartbreaking. It is kind of a second chance romance but frienemies to lovers as well. It will have your head spinning, especially with every twist that the author added to this story. My heart hurt for Parker as she is still navigating being the single mom. But there are so many underlying things that swirl around her and her now dead husband. When you get to that point in the story, your heart really hurts for her but also want to ask her what was she thinking. Then you have Remy who is essentially lashing out because he was hurt so much by people he thought he could trust. There are some intense heartbreaking moments as old wounds are opened and all the past hurts are exposed. But what I really love about this book is that it is about healing as well. Taking control of your past, owning it and moving forward. The sizzle between Parker and Remy is off the charts passionate. As a whole, it was a great story and I am intrigued to see what more is coming from this series.
One of the best books I have read this year!
April Canavan, takes Parker and Remey through hell and back, and makes them stronger for it. The love between these two and Nox( Parker’s Son), is off the charts.
Overcoming their past, through the dangers, and life events, they make mistakes, but own them and work through it.

This story will take you on a roller coaster ride. The story pulls you in and keeps you there all the way through. The chemistry between Parker and Remy is sizzling. This is the first book in this Birch Police Department series, and I can’t wait for the next one. This is a new author for me and I can’t wait to read the next book.
This was a first book read from this author for me. I was pleasantly surprised and found myself unable to put it down. I loved the secondary characters and cannot wait to read their stories as well.
These characters were extremely likable, the storyline flowed smoothly and the book actually the me for a loop at one point.
April Canavan reaches down your throat and grabs you by the heart from the get go with Balls to the Wall.
Parker and Remy have a tempestuous past, and neither one of them can bring themselves to straighten out the hurt and misunderstandings between them.
When Parker has to make an emergency trip to the Vet, the last thing she expected to happen, was to come across the man that despite having broke her heart several years before, still holds it in his hands.
Past hurts, misunderstandings, secrets, and lies have built a wall between them, that even a close knit community, closer family and promises can’t break through.
But, throw in a few unexplainable coincidences, an accident here and there, Parker’s son, the constant match making, and an uncontrollable urge to press Parker against the wall and devour her, and Remy doesn’t stand a chance.
Parker on the other hand is just trying to keep the balance of indifference, anger, and lust from controlling her heart. But seeing the boy she always knew was the other half of her heart, who pushed her away, but will get down on the floor to play with her little boy melts her heart to marshmallow fluff.
Now, to figure out who wants her dead and out of the way so her life can get back to normal.
Parker & Remy
All I can say is…there is much more to the story! The town, friends, family none of them know the whole story. Parker is the only one who knows what led to the events that put them where they are. She has an adorable son that everyone loves. He never saw his dad but honors him and speaks to him every night. She is strong and will be the best mom ever. And she is.
Things had gotten a little easier until Remy came back home. He seems to hate her and they are no longer the best friends they used to be. What are they? It will take a while to find that out.
This is a story that will grab you from the beginning (tissue warning). It will make you cry, laugh, worry, feel the steam, and so much more. There is never a dull moment. Family is big in this town. These connected families are part of the Police Department. Daisy, a retired K9 from the war now works for PD. She is quite a character in her own right. They will need the whole team when danger strikes.
Do. Not. Miss. This. One.
Reviewed for Words Turn Me On
This is Parker and Remy story. I can not believe these two and all this drama. I cried for all the hurts and anger and broken dreams. I felt sorry for these two. I loved this book. I can not wait to read more. I Loved the epilogue chapter I almost peed myself too. I think this is the most heartrending book that will give you whiplash with all the emotions and danger that one crazy lady bring to the doors of these two people. The part with Parker and Danny’s kid just about killed me. I cried so much in that part. I loved this book.

If anyone loves my books, they’re going to eat this shit up. PHENOMENAL!
After reading and loving Cocky Corporal, I was really looking forward to this new book/series.
Although I personally didn’t find it as nail biting epic, I still quite enjoyed. I think if my head wasn’t full of stress I would of been able to focus and enjoy more.
I did love the characters and the plot did keep me guessing, even if I felt it got lost by other things at times.
Definitely recommend if you need something to put a smile on your face, especially Daisy.
Just a warning in the 1st chapter in, you better have some tissues handy especially if you’re an animal lover, like my self, a young child and his mama loses their best friend a Newfie named Boo. A puppy that was given to Parker by her late husband. Now I’m off to read more.
Very touching story that will make you laugh, cry and rage at the characters.
This is the first book in the new Birch Police Department series. It’s fire stars, two thumbs up kinda wonderful for me. I definitely have a new author to add to my favs list! There is a prequel novella Whiskey Tango that introduces some of the people in this strong and gives a little background on them and takes place well before the start of this book. It is not necessary to read it first to enjoy this book. This is a second chance romance with a little suspense thrown in. Remy and Parker are hot together. There’s a very thin line between love and hate. Grab your box of tissues, you’re gonna need them. Now this one was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster but I loved every minute of it. The epilogue had me laughing which was pretty great since this book kept breaking my heart. I can’t wait to read Linc and Kennedy’s story. I have a feeling its going to be another hit to the feels.
Remy has been in love with Parker for years but before he left for the Marines he pushed her away because was scared. This set both their lives on a path away from each other. It was even harder for Remy because his friend got Parker pregnant and married her. Remy came home but Danny didn’t, he died on their first deployment with Parker months from giving birth. Now Remy has to find a way to keep his promise to Danny to take care of Parker. Parker hates Remy now. Is there any chance for him to convince her to give him a chance? Will Parker forgive him for the lies he is told her?

Parker has been living in hell for the past 6 years and the light in her life is her son Nox. Remy has watched over Parker for years and now he must face his past and take the life he was supposed to have. When secrets are revealed will rock both Parker and Remy all the while their lives are in danger. I have to say I really enjoyed this story and I look forward to more stories in this series. This story broke my heart from the very beginning. I loved these characters and little Nox just melted my heart.
This was an excellent book. There was a lot of misunderstandings, hurtful things said, and something that changed Remy and Parker’s lives because of Danny their best friend. I love any military related story and this ranks up there with the best of them. There’s plenty of action, funny moments, terrifying times and finally loved renewed. Loved it. HEA.
