What an intriguing book. We start by meeting Lana’s known mates as they are struggling with the three wait for their mate to be returned to them. She was placed into a long term sleep state in order to prevent something bad from happening. Escalating events make it necessary for her to be awakened two years earlier then planned. This leads to all kinds of surprises as she was aware while in that state when she should not have been. On top of that her guys grew up quite nicely, her powers have grown, and she has more mates she did not know about. This makes for some interesting twists as it all plays out until the cliff hanger ending. A solid start to what is shaping up to be a fun series. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Wow!! This was the first time I’ve read a book by this author and I’m so glad I did!! The characters are great. Plus their connection with each other are beautiful. I can’t wait to see what happens next especially after that cliffhanger.
This is a new author for me and im glad I read this book!
The world building is written amazingly well. The characters are written with depth and i love their connection with each other.
I cant wait to see what the next book brings especially after that cliffhanger.
This new series is amazing. The FMC, Atlantae, is a powerhouse and will be the most important supernatural to the world. Her guys are hot, sexy, and all about her. I loved the twist with Andros finding out he is her mate after knowing her since she was a baby. Malik was a surprise but it makes sense from the prophecy. I want to know more about him and what happens to the five of them.
I can’t wait for the next book.
I am so in love with this book. The world-building is really interesting and the interaction between dark and light (angels and demons) is at the crux of it.
The guys are obviously hot and the steamy parts of the book are on point, with steaminess and also on point for the characters personalities.
As always the dark and mysterious guy is my favourite and his character is incredibly well written and the bits from his POV further the plot dramatically and its brilliant.
The FMC is amazing and unique and just everything I want to be (except maybe the responsibility of balancing the good/evil in the world).
This book is the first in what I am sure is an amazing series and I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
I really enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next book when it comes out. I need to know more about malik and what’s going to happen next. Definitely five stars from me!!
I really enjoyed this book. Jenn D. Young is a new author for me. I was pulled into the story and definitely wanted more. Great story!
Quite the unusual spin on angels, demons, and balance between realms set into RH story.
Lana was put to long sleep, as the one who is balance personified, her life being in danger and her powers needed to be protected until her days come. Now, awake again, she is reunited with her two mates – and finds out there are two more. But one of them is not desired by anyone, being labeled the enemy nr.1 as the surviving Blood Mage. Now, the question is, how does one maintain balance and peace in this complicated situation?
Nice and fast pacing story, with some unique twists and steamy scenes. There were parts where I thought the jump in the story is too abrupt or too big, the gap needed to be bridged and filled with information, or on the other side where I felt the story lagging ( I have nothing against hot steamy scenes, but the one that took a whole long chapter could have been shorter, and sorry but asking the girl like four or five times the same question – I’d have kicked the guy somewhere already). However I enjoyed the bickering between Ezra and Gabe, and loved to watch the dynamics in Lucifer’s family.
I loved this intro to a new series! I cant get enough of this series. I cant wait for more to come. Its a new take on goid and evil. Im ready and waiting for more. Great quick read!
Balanced Threatened by Jenn D. Young is the first book in her Unyielding Fates series. The author introduces readers to a paranormal world where balance is essential. A girl born of a demon and an angel is the perfect balance to it all. But her powers may be too much for her as she grows, so her father asks that they be locked away…knowing the cost that he will face in a short time to come. His request is granted, but years later…his daughter is put into a sleep that is meant to last for five years, but when the balance is being targetted…she must be awakened in order to fight those who are threatening everything.
Balanced Threatened is the first book that I have read by this author and for the most part…I truly enjoyed this book. I’ve read several books similar to this one, but this book has some major differences that help it stand out and apart from the rest. The prologue piques my interest and quickly pulls me into this book. Then when the author transitions into the later years she surprises me. I was expecting the storyline to pick up where Lana (the female mc) is struggling with nightmares about what happened to her parents and vowing revenge. Instead, the author gives me Ezra and Gabe, her two mates as they are trying to get through life a day at a time while missing her and looking forward to the day that she returns to them. I was pleasantly surprised by this and honestly, I appreciate it.
This book is told from multiple points of view so you get something from all of the main characters in this story. I like how the author alternates between them all and keeps me engaged as I am able to see inside of their minds with their own personal struggles as well. This book is a real page-turner and I enjoyed reading it.
Now, this book does have some issues. I felt that there was quite a bit of repetition throughout. Certain phrases would be repeated again almost back to back and I felt that it took away from the storyline. It comes off as exactly what it is repetitive and unnecessary. Then, I had a bit of an issue with them wanting to get all riled up and getting an attitude when they learn that there is more to the prophecy than what they were initially told. I get being irritated, but being rude, and full-blown angry is just stupid. Especially when they are told that it was information that they didn’t need to know at the time. I figured that revelation, them not needing to know yet, would settle them down a bit, but they acted like they weren’t basically still children at the time. I was just honestly annoyed because I felt that they were out of line.
I really did enjoy this book so I am rating it 4 out of 5 stars. There are some steamy scenes, lots of sarcasm, major drama, and more so this book has a lot going for it. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series as I’m sure that it’s going to be a good one!
This book was steamy and hot and it blew my mind AWAY! I have never got so hooked on a book so fast before till I read this one. I love every little thing in this book. I can not wait to read the 2nd one to find out what happens next. This book was so amazing and shocking I’m still in shock at what happened. This book was so hot I’m shocked it didn’t catch fire lol.
This was a really great book! You just need to make sure that you read the prequel that is in the Fight the Night anthology. If you don’t read the prequel, you will feel a little lost at the beginning. You can read this story without reading the prequel, but it is much more enjoyable if you do.
So, again, this book was really great! I loved the different types of character and the play between the angels and demon. I also liked that the angel acted a bit more like a demon and the demon was more straight laced. The story had a really creative premise with a prophecy and surprise characters. I am really excited to see where this series goes.
I love this author. Her stories are always entertaining and enthralling. This first book in the new series is a powerful start to this adventure. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the next book.
Half angel, half demon, all about that balance.
While she sleeps, Ezra and Gabriel prepare for the coming battle. Armed with only a fragment of the prophecy, they will do whatever it takes to protect their mate, even as the world burns.
When she awakens, all Heaven and Hell will break out and the choice will rest with Atalante.
Can love save the world or will the eyes lurking in the shadows snatch her away?
Based on Book One, I would say that I’ll be pacing the floors until Book Two comes out!!
Great start to a new series, just loved everything about it, we have wonderful characters some twists and turns, action and is very entertaining, can’t wait for more
So I learned after I read this that there was a prequel for it (within the Fight the Night anthology) and I’m definitely going to have to backtrack to that. I would suggest reading that before this book because I felt that some things were missing and was a little confused at times. This book is a little slow at first, but it’s definitely worth sticking it out!
Atalante is the product of good and evil and it’s her destiny to keep the balance between the two. I liked the multiple POVs from Lana and her men and especially that we start off by meeting the men instead of Lana herself. I felt like each character was described very well also and loved that not all of her men were her age.
I enjoyed learning about the supernatural politics within this world and hearing the prophecies that were told within it. Jenn put a unique twist on the good vs evil with making a person responsible for the world and her mates to help carry out the burden. I hope the world building expands as the series continues and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Atalante and her men!

An exciting start to a promising reverse harem academy romance read
Atalante, the only half angel half demon, has been in a magic induced sleep for three years while her angel mate, Gabriel, and demon mate, Ezra, have been at the Academy of Light and Dark with Andros, the demon headmaster of the Dark and one of her father’s best friends, finishing their studies. As the story progresses the powers that be wake her, there are more things to adjust to than first thought, and quite a few surprises both welcome and unwelcome. Jenn D. Young’s Balance Threatened is an exciting start to a promising reverse harem academy romance read. You will quickly fall in love with the characters and may suffer from a book hangover until the next one comes out. Be advised the book does end in a cliffhanger, so do not read unless you are okay with that.
I read this book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This book takes a look at angels and demons and the whole rest of the supernatural pantheon in a way I had never considered before. I was pulled into the story without even being fully aware of it and I quickly realized that I couldn’t put this book down. Atalante is strong yet vulnerable, with powers that not even she understands. And the men destined to be her mates? Heck, they don’t even know what’s about to hit them. The only thing that bugged me was how blind they all seemed to be about the prophesy. I saw that twist coming fairly early on. Now I’m desperate to know what happens next
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author through Black Cat.
So I love starting a new series and this one really intrigued me!
“Born of light and dark. Within me resides the balance of both Heaven and Hell and I am all that is holding this fragile world together.”
I have to say I was hooked from the very start, there’s action and fighting and a unique take on good and evil! This is a why choose romance with some hot ‘n’ steamy scenes, a gripping and exciting storyline and twists and turns to have you on the edge of your seat and d9me great characters. I look forward to see where this takes us!
I found this first book in the Unyielding Fates series first few chapters slow to start but don’t give up on the story because once it ignites, WOW, it immediately grasps you into a intriguing journey. Based on what I feel is an unigue theme, this story has drama, action, humor, romance, adventure, and mystery told using angst, twist & turns, supernatural elements, steamy chemistry, and conflicts. A story that has demons and angels working together to keep the balance in the world and told using multiple characters’ perspectives throughout the story. Book 1 is the beginning of an adventure that will be continue in the rest of the series.
