Although I never had the real click my friends had with the Netflix series Lucifer, I do enjoy books where Lucifer, or people somehow related to him, play a big role. So, when I got the chance to review this book, first in a series, I didn’t think one moment and said yes. I might have a few too many review books to read at the moment, but it are all books I would have wanted to read anyway, so it’s not that bad.
Although the writing of this book is far from perfect, I would say there is a little too much tell and not all conversations of the characters seem natural, it is quickly overcome by all the other elements of the story. The plot is not going very fast, but Young feeds us more than enough glimpses of the future, prophecies and political history to keep us on the tips of our toes and most of all interested in what’s waiting for us in the next books.
It also helps that I’m pretty sure we’ve only seen so little of the world Young is building in this book. We already learned a lot about Angels, Demons, Mages and Fae and yet there are still so many questions unanswered and so many parts of the world left unexplored. No matter how much I love this version of the hell, and Lucifer and Lilith, I can’t wait to see Gabe’s house and meet his parents, even though he doesn’t feel too at ease with them.
And despite the fact that not all conversations seem natural and that there’s a lot of tell, I do get the feeling we really get to know the characters in this book quite well already. Young really takes her time to introduce the guys to us, to make us care about them and like them and then she adds Lana to the mix, giving us a chance to bond with her too. And since their minds are linked, they are also communicating about their insecurities and fears incredibly much, which made me love their dynamic even more.
That cliffhanger, however! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
I really enjoyed the start to Alalante’s story. Lana is the balance the world needs and recently the balance has been shifting. She has been in a deep sleep for 3 years to ensure her safety, but now it’s time for her to wake, and it’s not a moment too soon for her two mates. Once awake she discovers that there is more to the prophecy that anyone previously understood.
Very enjoyable start to the series, I love the cliffhanger and that not all her mates are teenagers (which is refreshing). There are a few twists to the story to keep you interested and some steamy moments with her mates too.
Looking forward to the next book.
Really different
I really enjoyed this book, the story line is really different which kept me hooked.
Really want to know more about Malik now and what an ending, looking forward to reading the next book
This book was amazing and checked every one of my boxes of things I like to read about! Cannot wait to find out what happens next to Atalante and her four mates. They have some steamy scenes.. love it!! Could not put this down once I started!
This was a very good opening for a series. There was good world building and character development. Enough steam to make you happy but still wanting more. The plot is twisted and still unraveling. Hopefully the second book will give us more character development especially with the FMC as she’s the weakest link in the group. Definitely worth reading the second book to see where it takes us.
This book was crazy! The characters are amazing and I don’t have the faintest clue as to why but Malik is my favorite I cant wait to see what happens in the next book I couldnt put this one down!
Balance Threatened by Jenn D. Young is the first book in the new series. Unyielding Fates, and y’all this book was something else. This paranormal reverse harem was a multiple perspective story that has a unique twist about the balance between good and evil.
The story is told from multiple povs, Atalante (I can’t even begin to figure out how to pronounce that name) is the main character her love interests being Gabe, Ezra, and Andros. Lana (Atalante) is the physical embodiment of the balance between good and evil. She is the offspring of a demon and an angel and it’s up to her to use her immense powers to keep the balance in check.
Good versus evil is a common thing in human culture but the fact that the balance between them is an actual living being is so unique. I find the idea of Lana incredibly interesting, I have so many questions. Like, what kind of powers does she have? How does she affect the balance? How do people upsetting the balance affect her? These are just the start of my questions, the entire idea of the story is fascinating.
However let’s get real, I came for the steamy reverse harem scenes and these were… I don’t even know, some situations came about that I’m not really used to and I would say that one situation has Lana mated to someone who watched her grow-up and that can be triggering for some. As for me I never encountered it and didn’t have a problem, in fact, I found it interesting, a mating when the couple knew each other and had a different relationship before. I think Jenn handled the situation just fine, it wasn’t a hey were mates lets do this, both sides had reservations and Jenn expressed each of their insecurities and troubles. That’s another thing, while everyone knew about the mating circle, and all of them (the guys included) had some kind of relationship before, they all had their insecurities and they were mentioned and address throughout the book. This wasn’t a perfect mating, while everyone was committed they had to work on things, still do. The steamy scenes in here were HOT and it was kind of a slow burn type of romance but I like the group together.
The story did have a few problems for me, I think it needs some editing. Certain things were repeated over and over and some of the dialogue was a little off. Also, I have a few questions because certain things confused me but overall I enjoyed the story. I mean like I said the steamy scenes were good, but also the relationships were good too. Then there was the family drama, the supernatural politics that seem a little shady and a few shocking facts come to light, that maybe things aren’t the way they seem, all kept my interest.
There is a bad guy who I am very confused and conflicted about and I’m not quite so sure he is the bad guy and then you got Lucifer who most definitely knows something but isn’t spilling the tea and then there is Lana herself. Her background was explained but I would love to see her in action in the next book. Balance Threatened was a good start to the story and I’m ready to see where things go in Balanced Altered.
