Baiting Him is book two in the How to Catch an Alpha series by Aurora Rose Reynolds. This can be read as a stand alone. I haven’t read the first book in the series but loved this so much that I might have to go back and read it. This is an insta-love romance with a hero that made me swoon so much it’s a miracle I didn’t just melt. He checked off every one of my perfect hero boxes.
Gaston “Gus” is the owner of three successful bars. He’s used to women coming on to him in his bars. He’s good at deflecting their advances. What he isn’t used to is seeing a woman that captures his attention like no other woman ever has, a woman that stirs something inside him he didn’t know was there. And having her tell him to leave her alone!
Chrissie is a thirty three year old woman living her dream of owning her own bakery, The Sweet Spot. She works long hours seven days a week so she has little time for anything but work. But it’s her best friend’s bachelorette party. So it’s a rare night out for her. Then she saw him. When he spoke, his voice wrapped around her like honey. He was gorgeous, much too gorgeous for her. She’s seen men like this before, men who only want you for one night and throw you away afterwards. No thanks.
Gus isn’t taking no for an answer. He’ll give her a little time to come around, but then he’s going after her. There was something there, something he needs to find out what it means.
So begins Gus and Chrissie. Gus was just everything. All swoony and over-protective and just amazing. Both have such busy lives and trying to fit in a new relationship isn’t easy. But they somehow make it work. There is some family drama on Chrssie’s end and she is an easy crier so that sort of annoyed me a little bit. But not enough to take away from the amazing connection these two had. She made Gus laugh. I loved who he was with her.
“I feel the possessive brand of his mouth on mine and his hold, like he’s staking his claim, telling me without words I belong to him.”
This was just a feel good, swoony, steamy book that made me so happy. I want a “Gus” in all of my books. Seriously, I think I had butterflies most of the way through. I’ve read a few of this author’s books, but not many. I definitely need to go through her book list and see what I’ve been missing. Because if there are more “Gus’s” there, then I need to meet them.
This is the second book in the How to Catch an Alpha series. They are stand alones.
This was an okay read for me.
While I like Gaston, I didn’t completely love him.
I liked Chrissie in the first book more than this one. This one she put herself down a lot and that rubbed me wrong a little.
She didn’t think she should call Gaston because he is too hot and out of her league. That was a bit annoying.
This was still enjoyable and I did like it.
I give this a 3.5. I received a copy via Netgalley
Chrissie is at Leah’s bachelorette party, when she decides she doesn’t want to wait in the girls bathroom line…we’ve all been there haven’t we. She goes to the men’s bathroom, and that’s where she meets the bar owner, Gaston. Yes, that is his name and he is complete with his own LeFou dog….absolutely loved that. Yeah, she actually meets the love of her life when she goes to the men’s bathroom to avoid the lines…oh, and then she tells other women what she did to avoid the lines….his reaction was so funny. That whole scene. He takes it well and is instantly attracted to her. He is so smitten with her, he sends her flowers to her bakery after their meeting. She doesn’t respond, so he comes in to see her. That is one thing I loved about him, he just is who he is, all confidence without being arrogant, heady combination….oh, and he cooks too…did I mention that…trifecta. Ok, this whole scene was hilarious because when he comes in, she has two high school employees that are gaga over him and they are incapable of saying anything when he’s there…it’s hilarious. Here’s one of the teenagers quotes when she sees him outside, “Please tell me he’s not to old for me.”…. And they always say things like that, but once he’s in the bakery…it’s all running into each other and funny stuff like that. He actually has this effect on most of the women he comes into contact with, not that he notices, all except her of course, and it’s funny every single time.
This was a safe read. She tries to push him away, but that last about a hot second. I really liked Gaston, he was very alpha, but had such a sweet side with her. Oh, and he cooks…did I mention that he cooks…yup, I think I did, so I fell a little in love too. Add in that she’s a baker, I’m thinking dream team relationship goals. Hot….that’s what these two are. #CounterShenanigans #AllOverTheHouseShenanigans. A little suspense and great storyline. We also get to see Leah and Tyler from book 1, Catching Him. Baby batter, a sweet epilogue and an hea. More please….always want more Aurora Rose Reynolds.

Baiting Him *swoon* this book y’all. I’m over here floating on cloud nine full of happiness after reading this. Aurora Rose Reynolds never fails to bring her signature BOOM to each and every book and I eat it up every single time. This book has it all from the swooniest of romance to the sweetness that keeps you grinning ear to ear while happy sighing.
Gaston (epic hero name there btw) is definitely something right out of most people’s dreams when it comes to a hero. Alpha enough to have you drooling but not even a little bit of a jerk or controlling. Respectfully protective and so darn sweet with Chrissie it felt like my heart was going to burst from my chest with how much I loved him. These two are guaranteed to steal your heart!
Baiting Him is one of those stories that will melt your heart and have you grinning the whole time. Gaston and Chrissie are two characters that will find their way deep under your skin, their story will have you overflowing with happiness and they will show you what true love is. A story that is passionate, endearing, heartfelt and enchanting. Their journey might at times be sweet like candy but believe me it has enough heat and passion to warm you from head to toe. It won’t be just Chrissie and Gaston falling in love, you will fall right along with them.

Gaston has to convince Chrissie!
Chrissie is doing her best friend duty by throwing a bachelorette part at Twilight nightclub when she met the owner. Gaston wanted to know her better but Chrissie wasn’t so sure since her job was running her bakery with early mornings and Gaston’s job was managing his nightclub and owned two bars which lead to late nights.
Chrissie felt that Gaston is almost too gorgeous to look at and she originally thought that guys that gorgeous would never settle for someone like her. Gaston used every second to change her mind because he knew that Chrissie was the one for him but he had to convince her of that.
Baiting Him is a fun romance to read and I laughed every scene of Gaston with his dog and you will understand why when you read the book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The queen of alpha hero’s has done it again. Once again, Aurora Rose Reynolds has written a love story that puts Disney the shame. Chrissie and Gaston’s story had me captivated instantly. And like all other ARR novels, I couldn’t force myself to put it down until I had read every single word. Being tired was well worth it, because Baiting Him was so freaking good. I have a feeling this How to Catch an Alpha series is going to rival my full out obsession with the Until series. Which, mind you, I swore was not possible.
Story Line: Chrissie is a bakery owner. She has a work ethic I am in total awe of. Well, that’s mainly because I would rather read than work at all, but seriously. Chrissie loves her bakery and devotes every spare moment she has to it. And Gaston is just as work driven. He’s the owner of several bars/restaurants which keeps him out late hours. Their story is one full of love, possibilities and growth. The character development was absolutely fantastic. Chrissie learned to let go and delegate, all the while maintaining her strong career focus. And literally the same can go for Gaston. It was amazing to read how these two were able to transition their hectic work lives to accommodate one another, yet still remain true to themselves and their companies. That’s not something you see a lot. Usually it’s just one of the characters making changes, but this was a pleasant surprise. If you’re looking for a story that curls your toes, inflates your heart and makes you want to be the best version of yourself, then look no further. Baiting Him is exactly what you’re looking for.
Interaction: In true ARR fashion, Gaston sees what he wants and goes after it. But Chrissie doesn’t just submit to his every whim and desire. She proves over and over again that she is a strong woman who doesn’t need a man in her life. However, she also shows us that she’s not indestructible. That gorgeous suit of armor she wears can crack, and Gaston proves over and over again that he is just the man for the repair and prevention job. Their love for one another is crystal clear. Their attraction, devotion and dedication seeped deep into my pores and will radiate from me for years to come.
Laundry: So, I’m sure you’ve gathered so far that this story is uber sweet. Almost as sweet as Chrissie’s delicious treats. Well, don’t assume that just because this is sweet love story, that there isn’t some naughty laundry in it. Because come on now. ARR can write some HEAT and Baiting Him does NOT disappoint. Their is magical fire that burns between Chrissie and Gaston. Every time these two come together, I swear my entire body hummed with excitement. I love these two characters so freaking much.
Depth: Yes, this is a fantastic love story. But it also takes on some tough family matters too. Chrissie’s family isn’t something you brag to you friends about. She doesn’t have the previous home life of the girl next door. Her road to where she is now isn’t paved. It’s dirty, rocky and at times pretty dark. But what we are shown is that our past does not define us. Just because our parents didn’t have the epic love story we read about it romance novels, doesn’t mean when can’t have that type of HEA for ourselves. The bottom line is this – Baiting Him is a story about allowing ourselves to let love in. Allowing ourselves to grow and change with what it thrown at us. And that it’s okay to take time away from our busy lives to spend with those who are most important to us. Thank you, ARR, for the reminder to put loved ones first. Always.
Baiting Him is the second book in the How To Catch an Alpha series by Aurora Rose Reynolds. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I personally always love to read a series in order to get the full back story of all the characters. Baiting Him is a well written story. The characters compliment each other to make this a very easy and enjoyable read. If you like a good romance with some humor thrown in, this is the book for you.
I couldn’t put this book down. I was hooked and desperate to know what happened next. I can honestly say that I enjoyed reading this book immensely. It was so addictive. The storyline was brilliant and it pulled me in and kept me there throughout the whole story. I loved the humour and the characters were amazing. I loved it. A very easy and enjoyable read. 5 well deserved stars.
This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and can be read as a standalone. This is Chrissie and Gaston’s story and it is a well written, sweet, heart-warming, and enjoyable instant love romance story. I was totally hooked throughout this addictive page turner, and I highly recommend for all readers.
This is the second book in the How to Catch an Alpha series. While this is written in ARR’s usual style, which I enjoy, I just didn’t like this one as much as the first. I didn’t feel the chemistry between the MC’s and the alphaness (look at me just making up words) was turned way down. The H gives the h his phone number but she doesn’t call him for days and he doesn’t like that at all but he doesn’t pull the alpha out and just actively pursue her. I thought the story dragged as there was hardly any angst to hook me.
Gaston is swoony and will sweep readers away. Chrissie and Gaston’s story gives all the feels! Gaston is immediately drawn to Chrissie and she really likes him but has issues in her past affecting how she feels.
There is never a doubt that Gaston is real and he makes Chrissie really realize this. What a fun story! They have amazing chemistry and Gaston is the guy to let Chrissie know how great she really is!
They work with though their issues with good communication and find a way to happily ever after.
All the characters were great in this book! I loved how they all really cared!
After reading Catching Him, the first book in Aurora Rose Reynolds’ ‘How to Catch an Alpha’ series, I couldn’t wait for another story! ARR has a way of writing books that have women who are strong, and me that are protective. Baiting Him certainly falls into that category, as well.
Chrissie is a busy, hard-working owner of a bakery. She loves her job, her friends, and her family. She’s perfectly happy with how her life is going. Until she is out for a bachelorette party, and encounters Gaston, a club-owner. But Chrissie isn’t interested, especially knowing just how hot Gaston is. But he is dogged in his pursuit of Chrissie.
I loved both of these characters! I loved how strong Chrissie was, but yet recognized that she was able to lean on others. I loved how Gaston fell hard- and fast- for Chrissie, and knew what he wanted without playing any games.
I so look forward to more in the How to Catch an Alpha series!
I love this author so much and I could not get enough. It was an amazing story from beginning to end. I read this book very slow because I never want to miss a moment.
This was a sweet, sexy story and I enjoyed it, but it lacked any real drama. 3.5 Stars.
Chrissie is a fairly happy, successful woman. She owns her own bakery, and it’s been doing very well. Mostly because it is her whole life. She works constantly and has no time for anything else. Especially not a sexy man who might not mean what he says. But when she meets Gus when she’s out for her best friend’s bachelorette party, she’s not sure if she can take him at his word. Or if she even wants to.
Gaston, aka Gus, owns his own club and 2 other bars. He mostly stays away from girls he meets there, and especially from his employees. But when he sees Chrissie at his club, and speaks to her, he’s hooked. But she’s not sold. He has to convince her, which is exciting for him, and he pursues her ardently.
Chrissie and Gus had electric chemistry, but she was trying to be cautious, while he was full steam ahead. They both had very different family situations growing up, and that definitely colored how they handled the rest of their lives. They were both very close to their moms, which I thought was awesome, and I loved seeing those connections. I also loved seeing Chrissie’s best friend, Leah, and her husband Tyler (the couple from book 1) and how happy and awesome they were. It’s always fun to see past couples living out their HEA.
Overall Gus was a swoonworthy hero, and Chrissie was a strong, fun heroine, and I loved their connection. They really fit each other, and that was clear. But, the small bit of drama in this story was a lot of tell instead of show. I would’ve liked to see that part of the plot fleshed out a little. In the end, it didn’t seem very important, since it was over so quickly, and basically could’ve just been skipped altogether. So, there really wasn’t a lot of drama at all, which is fine. I’m good with smooth sailing between the hero and heroine, especially in a novella. But, in a longer story, I expect some sort of issue that comes between the couple, and a black moment they have to get through before they can be happy together. Don’t get me wrong, I’m by NO MEANS an angst queen. In fact too much angst gives me hives, and its not my jam. But, the stakes just didn’t feel high here at all without any outside drama going on.
Overall I still liked the story, and I really loved the characters. I look forward to the final book in this series.
ARR has done it once again, I need more than 5 Stars!!!
Baiting him was super cute and sweet, and of course we get are alpha male that we all love. Gaston and Chrissie made for such beautiful couple, I love he won’t take no for an answer with anything. If you like all Ms. Reynolds previous books and characters, then you are in for a treat once again.
Gaston and Chrissie are just as perfect together as I imagined! From the very first meeting, I knew they belonged together, and ARR’s “Boom” didn’t let me down! Known for the insta-love that factors into her romances, this author never lets me down, when I need a sweet, absolutely perfect love story, she is who I turn to!
Chrissie has had no luck in relationships, and watching her parents relationship fall apart didn’t make her feel any better about love. She knows it’s out there, that it exists, after watching her best friend find her perfect guy, but she isn’t sure that man is out there, waiting for her.
Gaston is that guy. You know the one. Rich, successful, what every girl dreams about. But he just hasn’t found the one he’s looking for, the one to complete his life. But one glimpse of Chrissie, and he knows she’s it. And he knows he would do anything to make her his. He just has to make her see what they could be together.
This book was perfect. Persistence pays, and Gaston is determined! I waited with baited breath, for him to make his move, because I knew it would be amazing! This story left me with a smile on my face, and gladness in my heart. Maybe even a bit of hope, that the perfect guy really is out there for each of us!!!!
This is one of those feel good, perfect afternoon reads that will leave you smiling and believing everything is right in the world. There is very little drama, although the heroine does have some family issues to work through and there’s a tiny bit of “villain” that pops it’s head up but is quickly dealt with. Otherwise, this is a relaxing romance of insta-desire and fast love. I enjoyed reading it as I reset myself after life had piled on the pressure. Perfect for a little escape from the real world!
A great fun super sweet romance that had me melting into a puddle
Chrissie owns a local bakery and is kept super busy with it she also has a tight circle of friends who she is super protective of. When she heads out for a night of fun with those friends they go to a local club. There she meets Gaston the owner of said club when she sneaks unto the men’s toilet to avoid the wait for the ladies. Gaston is instantly smitten and is determined that she will be his so he and his dog Le Fou set out to win her over. Gaston may be an alpha male but he has a wonderful mama’s boy centre that makes him sweet at the same time Chrissie won’t stand a chance when he starts to spread the charm
