ONG! I loved this book! It grabbed me from the start! I couldn’t put it down! I loved Kai and Sunny! I hurt for Sunny with everything she’s been through but Kai wants to make her life and her daughter Anika’s life better. With all the action, danger and drama you get the start of a fantastic story! I can’t wait until I get Shellshock so I can find out how the story ends!
Badlands starts with a bang and doesn’t let up. With Bijou’s trademark humor and casual violence, it follows brother and sister assassins as they try to save the girl from a cult (and a surly safe-house guardian from himself). It is book one of a duet and book two will release on January 19th.

Bijou Hunter’s books are always an automatic buy for me. Badlands will not disappoint. The book is about Kai and Neri. They are the children of Jake and Mia aka Gator and Gidget. It’s not necessary but reading Gator will help you understand Kai and Neri and where the they from.
You will be taken into the sad and brutal world of cults. Kai meets Frida and that’s when the adventure begins. Cults, mercenaries, car chases, bullets flying, trust, love and one big cliffhanger! In her books the characters are somewhat flawed needing that one person to help them survive in the world. Let’s not forget the wonderful “snarky” dialogue that makes the book a “Bijou” book! Badlands will not disappoint.
Where to begin. First off, I love Bijou Hunter’s books. They are sexy, thrilling, filled with amazing quirky characters and laugh your head off hilarious! Badlands is different from the other Bijou Hunter books I’ve read and that’s not a bad thing, just different. In the previous books that I’ve read by Ms. Hunter there has always been a sense of danger…her heroes and sometimes heroines are dangerous and deadly, so that’s not the difference. I think the difference is that Badlands is more somber to me. From the first page you can feel the agony that Sunny and Anika are living in, the absolute hopelessness. Even when they’re jerked out of that life by Kai and Neri, there’s still this “waiting for doom” mentality with Sunny and Anika because of all they’ve been through and Ms. Hunter rips your heart out with this gripping story. About half to three quarters of the way through the book the humor began to seep in and Ms. Hunter’s hilarity shines. Don’t get me wrong, there are sweet, funny times in the first part of the book, just not as much. Neri is the sarcasm queen and doesn’t let up and it’s a beautiful thing to read. Loved this story and look forward to reading more. I also need to get Gator and read that book too, don’t know how I missed it, but I definitely need to be introduced to Kai and Neri’s folks. Great job, once again, Ms. Hunter…love your vivid imagination!
