An Amazon Best of the Year Selection “When it comes to combining offbeat humor and mayhem, it is tough to beat Laurenston.” —RT Book Reviews She’s the woman he’s been hired to kidnap. But ZeZé Vargas has other ideas . . . like getting them both out of this nightmare alive. Just one problem. She’s crazy. Certifiably. Well the honey badgers are back and if it’s chaos, violence, snark and romance you are looking for than this book certainly delivers. It begins with middle sister Max allowing herself to get kidnapped because she’s determined to get back at her mother’s ex ( yep sneaky honey badger ! ). Max doesn’t need outside help because she’s got her own back up but it seems an undercover agent has other ideas. Ze hasn’t a clue what is going on and is almost convinced he’s hallucinating but his life is about to get much more complicated as surprises galore turn his world upside down.
Expect mayhem and utter madness but most of all expect to really enjoy this return to the MacKilligan family. We discover hidden depths to Max as she brings Ze somewhat reluctantly into the world of Shifters. Ze was I’m afraid for me a bit of a slow starter but then again I don’t think many can compete with these crazy siblings. I really appreciated how their relatives helped make this story almost comical at times and as honey badgers are truly difficult to kill this book just kept hammering ( pun intended ) that fact home. As usual there’s meddlesome parents, fearsome shifters and even basketball ! Yes this story has all the usual shenanigans that I associate with this author. I will say though that its not just about the romance because that is just a tiny part of this fabulous book . This story is quite rightly about these absolutely amazing sisters who are all totally unbelievable and yet I find that I really do want to believe they are real because they are incredible, zany and impossible not to love !
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
I can’t possibly express enough how much I am loving this series. I don’t think I have laughed so hard as I have at these sisters. They are totally kick ass woman and living on the crazy train!
This one focuses on Max, but where Max is, so are Charlie and Stevie. I love that. These sisters have each others back and really show what family is meant to be. They seem to hate everyone and everyone seems to hate them, and yet they are constantly surrounded by other shifters.
Even though each book focuses more on one of the sisters, I would recommend reading this series in order. You learn so much about all these characters, it will just increase your enjoyment of each book.
I will also warn that the romance is not a priority in the story. It’s still there and I do love who Max is paired up with. Ze brought just as much entertainment to this book as the sisters did.
I have no idea if there are plans for more books in the series, but I sure do hope so. I don’t think I could get enough of all these characters. If you love silly humor and love to laugh, read this series!
I was so excited when I got an ARC of Badger to the Bone from NetGalley. I have been waiting for Max’s story and building it up in my mind on just how great it would be. Shelly Laurenston did not disappoint at all. I already loved Max going into this book but now I love her more! And Ze… oh Ze, he is oh so interesting and I instantly liked him.
I did not see all the twists and turns coming in this book. Shelly knows how to keep me entertained and surprised!
Absolutely loved this book. The quirky characters are outstanding, all the different types of shifters make for a great read along with an intriguing storyline. I laughed out loud and was a great way to spend relaxing with a book I didn’t want to put down. Definitely recommend reading. I received a free copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
Oh Holy mother-truckers! Max is a hoot and a half. She is sooooo bloodthirsty and volatile. How poor Stevie has lasted I have no idea LOL. I feel really sorry for poor Charlie though. She can’t shift but all that shifter energy has to go somewhere – her rage is something to behold! Rage Baking surely needs to become an actual thing.
I can’t believe Max had a whole other life essentially hidden from Charlie – that would not be easy with a Class A personality like Charlie. But the heists and the other “jobs” the basketball team undertake are…well impressive.
Ze is a good guy undercover. He thinks he’ll take part in the kidnapping, save the hysterical female and go about his business. He did not expect her to burn his cover and then annihilate every one around them. But Ze has got some secrets of his own. Like he’s a big old kitty cat and someone in his family has been very, very secretive.
As Ze gets embroiled in the life of the MacKilligan females and their other-halves, he also has to learn about being a shifter. Hopefully also learning why he likes the top of the china cabinet!
There is a lot to take in and you may want to take notes. Safe to say Freddie is up to his old tricks and landed another poor female in trouble! I loved the way the males in the group just go with the flow and absorb all the chaos. The continual bear invasions seem to have lessened Stevie’s fear of them! Snappy writing, hysterical hijinks galore. Just switch off reality and go with it!
I so hope there are more books to come – after all we have a whole squad of HoneyBadgers to get through!!!
I absolutely loved this book. It is the third in this series but can be read as standalone. I laughed a lot while reading . Ze is so funny wonderful storyline and fast moving story gave me an enjoyable few f
Hours well worth reading!
You need to read everything in the series!
There is no way to even try to describe Badger to the Bone by Shelly Laurenston because Max MacKilligan is trying to protect her sisters and when ZeZé (Zé) Vargas gets in the way of an attempted kidnapping. Max decides to save Zé from himself because he doesn’t know he is a shifter and take him with her and her basketball teammates. Max tries to educate Zé about shifters and that is not so easy with the Dunn triplets humming a song and he doesn’t want to believe his eyes!
I love anything Shelly Laurenston has written but each book gets better and better especially in her Pride Series which The Honey Badger Chronicles are part of because you get characters that have been in prior books show up in the books and Miki Kendrick is one of my favorites and I’m hoping at some future time we get to see her daughter.
Read the book because you will laugh constantly at stuff the characters say and do!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
How did we not see this coming???? Everything we know of Max, her one true nemesis, her weakness when she is home with her sisters, the one who never gives up on annoying her, pursuing her, and that she just can’t back away from, the feral cat in their neighbourhood. Which means, it was only poetic justice, when at 7% into our rip-roaring, loud out loud, action packed tale, she states “That’s my kitty cat. You can’t shoot my kitty cat.”it all made sense
Max doesn’t like cats, never has, and Zé is no exception “And this was why Max hated cats! Tricky, evil, fur-licking cats!” but he wiggles into her conscious and she is inexplicably drawn to him. And what a cat he is, between his antics, “Then, with his gaze still on Dutch, Zé slowly reached over and, with a flick of his wrist, knocked Dutch’s soda out of his hand.” And Max’s one-liners “It’s quickly turning into a teddy bear picnic. I thought I’d go out and pick up some liquor.” And the story in general “&#@k!” the last human male exploded. “More badgers!””, I was laughing so hard in places, I had to stop and catch my breath
The attraction is there too, but finding time and place is isn’t easy, as Charlie clearly states to Max, “@#%k the cat on your own time. Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go!”, there is always something that needs to be done. When they finally get time on their own, they are explosive together, well matched, physically and emotionally, and Max’s cat has her pegged
There were some emotional moments as well. Settling of some matters with their extended family, and Max coming to the realization that she has a heart and feelings. “Family is family.” That’s what Carlie had taught Max. But it was Charlie who’d taught Max that family only mattered “if they are in it with you. To the end. Do or die.”. Max won my heart, Zé won my heart, and Charlie, Berg, Stevie, Shen, and Kyle, yes Kyle is still around, burrowed deeper into it
And fear not fellow Honey Badger lovers, I don’t think this will be the end….
It has been a long time since I’ve smiled and laughed out loud as much as I did while reading this book! The antics of the last of the three honey badger MacKilligan sisters, Max, gets her story in Badger to the Bone. While in the process of being viciously attacked by her cousin, Max quickly ends that fight and runs toward her own kidnapping. It is here that she meets ZeZe Vargas and turns his whole life around.
This book had so much going on with so many characters that I kind of got lost in a few places. It has been a few months since I’ve read (or listened to) any of this author’s books so I had a hard time remembering who everyone was. But as I kept reading I was able to follow along pretty well.
Overall, Badger to the Bone was a really fun read. Max is one bada$$ honey badger, she is vicious, crazy but so protective as only she can be. And then just imagining what Ze saw when he was brought to Max’s world, now his world, still brings a chuckle. And those scenes with Charlie and the fear she brings out of people around her makes me smile so big! Looking forward to more with these characters.
Thank you Netgalley and Kensington Books for giving me the opportunity to read this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
This had me laughing so hard, my sides hurt! I was recommending this to friends before I even reached the 25% mark, it was that good!
Max was one crazy, whack-a-doodle and I loved how protective she was over those she cared about. I’ve never read another heroine like her but she’s the type that I could definitely get used to. With her madcap group of friends she was scary good at taking down the bad guys, or just anyone that ticked her off.
And when it came to Ze, she didn’t do the insta anything. She doesn’t like cats, and Ze was very much a cat…of course, he doesn’t know that.
Watching Ze as he watched the sisters was hilarious. His reactions to them, although mostly internal, kept me in stitches. Theirs was a life he didn’t even know existed and suddenly he was thrust into the center of a house of family full of chaos. Lots of prime material for hilarity.
This story branches off in several directions and while I was a bit confused a time or two, it wasn’t hard to catch up. How the plot all begins to interweave together was a pleasant surprise and made me love this book even more. This is definitely a reread!
