Evan is my favourite vanilla sleuth. He has determination and physical resilience. His stories are riveting and unputdownable. Whether you tackle the box set or start one by one, the Evan Buckley thrillers will give you moments of holding your breath to pitying the poor man for everything that is thrown his way. However, through all his adventures Evan comes through as a survivor and fighter. After Harry Dresden my favourite books to read
I really enjoyed this book. Evan Buckley is a great character with flaws and in turmoil. He has a tragedy happen to him and sems to be drowning in remorse and fear but a case takes him in a completely different route and changes his life while putting him in great danger. So many twists and turns. I could not put this book down and highly recommend it.
I love the Evan Buckley books and I highly recommend them. Very good characters and great plots.
An excellent murder mystery about Evan Buckley, P.I. It’s scary and I couldn’t stop reading to find out what happens. James Harper is a wonderful author!!
An excellent read. I highly recommend this book
If you think you can read just this one book (First in a series of 4), let me know if you succeed.
A really good book!
I really liked this book. You can’t help but hope the main character finds out what happened to his wife. Since he does not, at lease he helps someone else find closure.
A good solid mystery. Good for a bedtime read or anytime you need your brain to take a break.
Evan Buckley goes searching for trouble and always finds it–even after he switches from taking smarmy pictures of spouses in compromising positions to using his PI skills to find a missing son and father. He’s only 32, but he gets into enough scrapes it seems doubtful he’d survive if he weren’t a fictional character. At one point, he identifies with Robert Parker’s legendary Spenser; but he lacks Spenser’s code of ethics and sense of wry humor. Like Spenser, he survives a lot of physical trauma without much physical consequence. Put in the middle on your TBR list …
Enjoyed the book. It took a while for the main character to grow on me, but he did. The plot was good, it’s well-written, and the characters are realistic. Look forward to reading another in this series.
An enjoyable, easy-to-read mystery/PI story.
Likeable characters, occasional humour and an interesting storyline.
Recommend to readers who enjoy private investigator stories.
Terrific first book in the series ! I am very happy I have book # 2 to read
Evan is a PI. He is not a happy PI, it’s not the work he thought he would be doing.
He does get a break when a strange figure comes to his office late one evening. It takes some work, but he figures out who she is and what she wants. The resulting investigation is a page turner. That, to me, was a surprise. Normal reading is simple to pick up, put down, repeat as needed.
For some reason I was compelled to keep reading, no matter where I was in the story.
Violence? Yeah, but not every page. Sex, just a little, mostly insinuated. Although it’s not Christian Fiction I didn’t notice foul language.
Just in case you didn’t get it yet. I really liked this book.
Pretty good read even though the main character isn’t all that likable.
PI whose wife disappeared takes on a cold case where a ten year old boy vanishes, then days later his father, who is suspected, also disappears.
As always, the cops aren’t helpful and hate the PI. Massive cover-up going on.
Like the writing style. Could read more.
This was about a private detective who takes a very cold case involving a missing child and husband.
Good read
