Trace Bancroft has been in prison for fourteen years paying for a mistake that cost a man his life. Now released, Trace heads back to Bitter Bark with his mutt, Meatball, and runs into Daniel Kilcannon, who offers to provide some medical care for the dog. Trace knows that would mean seeing Molly Kilcannon, a girl who shared one crazy night with him before his life took a turn for the worst. But … But when Meatball’s illness intensifies, Trace has no choice. He has to face Molly again, and pray she’ll save his dog, no matter what their history.
When Trace Bancroft arrives at Waterford Farm with a critically ill dog, Molly Kilcannon’s entire world is rocked to the core. Firmly believing Trace died in a bar fight years ago, Molly never told anyone that the bad boy of Bitter Bark was the father of Prudence Kilcannon, her very good thirteen-year-old daughter. But Molly has promised to tell Pru the truth about her conception, and now that truth is a living, breathing ex-con whose very existence could change everything, including a precious mother-daughter relationship.
It doesn’t take long for Molly to realize there’s more to this sexy man than his dark past and tattooed arms. And while the realization that he’s a father is the best thing to ever happen to him, Trace doubts anything could make him worthy of Pru or her spirited veterinarian mother. As they nurse Meatball back to health and grow ever closer, Trace and Molly have to decide when and how to tell Pru the truth. But will the secret that binds their hearts be the very thing that breaks them apart?

Truly enjoyed this story!!!
The Dogfather series is so fun. Read them all
Oh, wow! This story pulls at your heart. Trace was the bad boy in high school and Molly had a crush on him. They have a one-night stand and Molly gets pregnant, but before she can tell Trace, he leaves town, and disappears. A couple years later she finds out he died in a bar fight.
…Thirteen years later, Trace shows up in Bitter Bark and rocks Molly’s world to the ground. Now she has to figure out how to tell Trace he has a daughter and how to tell her daughter about her father.
This was a great second-chance romance and I loved the main dog, Meatball.
I’ve read several of this author’s books. This is not one of her best.
I felt sorry for Dr. Molly and her tiger daughter Pru. They had a lovely life with a supportive family until Brace showed up. Prison has humbled him but also gave him the opportunity to train dogs. Meatball, his dog, needs help and Brace needs a new start in life. His one desire is to protect Molly and his daughter. There are some sad moments but love conquers all.
Love St Clair’s Dog Father series.
This one got me reading the series. Love the characters.
A wonderful story of second chances and the importance of not judging people without getting to really know them.
So good!
Love this series. Very well written, funny ,sad, but you end up with a happy ending. No violence and no explicit sex scenes
Really enjoyed this book. I highly recommend this series.
Strong characters who have to overcome difficult situations. They come out better and stronger. Love stories with animals especially dogs.
Loved this book! Not just the usual story.
I think this is my favorite of the whole series. Each book as good as the last!
BAD TO THE BONE is a standalone read with a HEA. Part of a series it can be enjoyed and you won’t feel lost. It is a bit steamy. It is my favorite so far. I loved it and loved this wounded hero. A bad childhood and even worse young adult, you just root for him to have a loving, caring family. The Kilcannons are a large Irish family that owns and operates the largest dog rescue and training facility in North Carolina. The father, Daniel, a widower, is finding spouses for his family. He wants them to settle down, find happiness and run the family business. Molly is the single mother of Pru, a young teen. She is also the family vet, having taken over her dad’s clinic when he semi-retired. She has raised Molly with the help of her big family and on her own. She refused to say who the father is and except for her mother knowing, it has been a big secret.
Pru is old enough to want to know about her father and she has been nagging her mother to tell her about him. Molly has realized that she is going to have to accept the fact that Pru deserves to know and she is old enough to understand everything surrounding her birth.
Her plan was going along fine until a young man shows up at the facility with a very sick dog and begs them to save his dog. Of course, it is what they do. Molly is shocked beyond belief that it is her child’s father.
This is one of the best stories I have read in a long time. It keeps your attention from the first page to the last. It is really hard to put your Kindle down!! I loved the story and the hero. He will really move your heart. I definitely recommend this book as well as all the others in the series. If you like romance and you like dogs, you will love this book.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 10/26/18
Grab your tissue box, cause this one is gonna pull at all your heart strings. It sure did mine. I am a sucker for second chances, dogs and bad boys. I love the Dogfather series. I took my time reading this and savoring every minute. Roxanne St. Claire has done a fantastic job continuing the Kilcannon family saga. From Molly, the daughter following in her father’s footsteps, to Trace, the guy who just couldn’t get a break doing the right thing, and finally to Pru, who is an essential part of them. This tale will have you riveted, wanting the happily ever after they so deserve. And now I wait, not so patiently, for the next chapter.
Love this family and the dogs. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
