A group of women walk into a bar… gray. I never hesitate going to battle when my gut tells me I’m right. And right now, my gut—among other things—is speaking loud and clear about Jen Montgomery.
She’s in a bad situation. Not just bad—deep and black and ugly.
And I’m about to make it worse. She just doesn’t know it yet.
Warning: This author is also a mom who runs a PG-13 home. This book is not PG-13. If you are under the age of 18, do NOT pick up this book. This author doesn’t enjoy mama-drama of any sorts. Do her a favor and walk away.

Guys. Seriously. I start every review of this author’s books the same way now and that’s with stating that with every book Brynne writes, they just keep getting better and better. With each author, I generally have a favorite book and don’t sway from that favorite but not with Brynne’s books. Each one is truly my new favorite and Eli and Jen were no exception.
If you love a strong and swoony alpha but love bad ass heroines even more, then this is the book for you. Eli is a tough FBI agent that kind of plays by his own rules and Jen Montgomery is the lady you want running your corporation. They are both awesomely written with lots of layers and you’ll be rooting for them right away.
I loved the peak into all of the side players’ lives too and the introduction of lots of new friends. I literally just finished this book and cannot wait for the next one. In the meantime, I’ll be rereading this one and visiting all of Brynne’s other series!
Bad Situation by Brynne Asher is a slow burn, deliciously sexy (you will be fanning yourself), with a swoon-worthy protective alpha male and a strong heroine, romantic suspense/mystery.
I loved the slightly taboo/forbidden start to Jen and Eli’s relationship (suspect/federal agent), their banter, the trust they had in each other, and how they worked together to make their relationship stronger.
And the epilogue . . . *sigh* . . . perfect.
Eli is a rare find for me. If I could write exactly how I want my hero to pursue his heroine, it’s Eli 100%. There wasn’t one moment where I felt he could do something different. There really isn’t a better compliment I can give an author except to tell them they nailed it.
Eli had some roadblocks in his way when it came to Jen but he never let that slow him down. I think he is going to be universally liked by all types. He wasn’t over the top, but he also didn’t let anything stand in his way. He’s the perfect blend of being a dominant, a protector and a gentlemen.
Jen was such a strong character. Sometimes a strong woman can come off as too much or too aggressive. I never felt that way with Jen. She was in charge and in a very dominant position at work but never came off as masculine. She still had a soft side to her and was pure woman at heart.
I talk about how I loved Eli’s pursuit. Well, I can also say I loved how Jen reacted to his pursuit. With as dominant as she has to be in her work life, she wasn’t that way with Eli. They complimented each other splendidly.
I always love catching up with past characters in the series and you get to see a few favorites pop in. The suspense was exciting and while I thought I knew what was going to happen, I really didn’t. I love it when an author can surprise me. This will be a book I recommend to everyone I can. I loved it and will re-read this one for many reason.
Since I’m a huge fan of this author’s writing style, to say I’ve greatly been anticipating this new release would be an understatement, folks. I’d describe my enthusiasm more like jumping up and down chanting, “Give me…Give me…Give me!” lol
Jensen Montgomery may have found herself in a bad situation, but, ultimately, she was one mega PowerBall winning lottery ticket like lucky lady to land Eli as her leading man/apha protective hero. There basically wasn’t anything I didn’t love about this guy. “My, oh my”, Eli is the whole package. Handsome, smart, sexy, and willing to not just bend but break any rules necessary to help his lady love. He should take a bow, hold his head high, and wave to the crowd like royalty, because he just made my rare, exclusive “Top 10” book boyfriend list.
Though the pace of the storyline started to slow down, there were enough occasional twists and turns to keep things moving and interesting. I basically consider this a slow burn mystery “who done it” type romantic read. I did start to grow a little impatient to see the culprits revealed, but I certainly enjoyed every single second of Jen and Eli’s time together as they fought off what felt like an invisible adversary, who was always two steps ahead of them. Some of that time, btw, is “VERY” graphically steamy/smexy complete with lusty language. So if the sexy looking cover wasn’t a big enough hint, well, you’ve just been warned point blank this is 18 and over adult reading material.
There is a good cast of supporting sub-characters that added to Montgomery clan, who though “rich as Croesus” obviously still have some lingering, long overdue family issues they need to hammer out. If you pay close enough attention, I suspect you likely will pick up on who the future destined to be together main couple will be in the next sequel, which I hope happens sooner rather than later, my fellow romance book loving friends.
Title: Bad Situation, Series: The Montgomerys (Book 1), Author: Brynne Asher, Pages: 323, stand-alone but part of a series, alpha protective good guy hero, business savvy/top executive type heroine, enemies to lovers, has her back, some violence, VERY graphic steamy/smexy scenes with lusty language, instant attraction, genuine emotional connection, romance safe, no OW/OM drama, no cheating, no love triangle, ends with epilogues.
(I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I was not given any payment or compensation for this review, nor is there any affiliation or relationship between this reviewer and the author/publisher.)
Listen. Brynne can do no wrong. Eli and Jen’s story is just as intriguing and steamy as it promised to be.
Having been groomed from a young age to eventually run the family business (or, at least, one of them anyway) Jen works her ass off to do herself and her father proud. She’s a woman who has had to prove to all the nay-sayers that she deserves her position. She’s a no-nonsense businesswoman, but she is never severe or cold. And she has a shoe obsession. You HAVE to love her- she’s awesome!
Eli is a bit of a wild card as an FBI agent who made a name for himself in a previous case (introduced in the Killers series.) As fully aware as he is that he shouldn’t get caught up with Jen, he can’t resist. He’s got no problem working in that gray area or walking the line of professional ethics in order to get the job done and protect the woman he’s set his sights on. (The woman whose ass he constantly wants his hands on.)
These two together are FIRE, and Asher brings us another steam-filled romantic suspense with plenty of twists and turns and shocking revelations. I can’t wait to see what the next book holds!
Holy cow! This latest by Brynne Asher was so good, I devoured it in one sitting. I’m not sure if it was because I had not eaten dinner yet (my pups and I had a very very late dinner), but I was jittery throughout the book because I didn’t know what was going to happen next. The characters of Eli and Jen were perfect. Eli is the strong, smart and protective FBI agent that will do whatever he has to, no matter the consequences, to keep Jen safe. Jen, who is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Montgomery Industries, is just as strong and intelligent yet a vulnerable heroine that you just can’t help but root for. I really am sounding like a broken record when describing the hero and heroine of the books I read these days, but it’s just what I love. The chemistry between these two was seriously hot and the storyline and suspense will keep you on your toes. There are so many twists and turns and once you think you know what will happen next but then it goes sideways. It was awesome!
I don’t know if I am explaining this right but when I finished this book, I remember thinking that this was another great Brynne Asher book, I’ve read almost all of her books (Little Black Dress is not available right now) and I found she just has this writing style that is all hers. You just know going in that you will be getting a top-notch love story that will have the heat and heart of great characters. Bad Situation definitely has that and so much more! I highly highly recommend this book.
When Eli and Jensen meet they are both in a bad situation. Eli is bored, and Jen doesn’t want to be out hanging at the club.
When they meet again two days later the situation is suddenly worse. Jen is in trouble, but Eli is good at skating that grey area in life, and he thinks he can help her out. Plus, it’d be nice to have his hands on her again like they were the other night. Only now he wants more, he wants to taste her.
As the danger around Jen escalates, Eli does everything he can to protect her. When they finally let everyone in on the fact that they’re together it causes more explosions in Jen’s life.
Can they work through the danger, and Eli’s frequent disappearances to stay together?
Out of a bad situation, Eli and Jensen may find the one person they need to trust the most!
A super HOT story with steamy sexy times, and awesome drive and suspense! Brynne Asher blew me out of the water with this one! I can’t wait to see what happens next with this awesome family!! Worth every I can give it.
I devoured this read! The suspense element, twist and turns will keep you guessing until the end! I absolutely loved alpha, dominate and sexy Eli. Spitfire Jen is so feisty and strong. Their chemistry is off the charts, scorching hot you’ll need a fan. Their banter is very entertaining. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. A must read!!
Excellent story-telling!
This is a great story; complex, well developed, intriguing, with so much tension as the plot unfolds. Jen is amazing! She’s a strong, intelligent woman with personal values I admire. Her connection with Eli is slow-growing, and delicious to watch. Eli is a relentless force; impossible to ignore and sometimes hard to understand. The end result is well worth the wait. I really like Jen’s family; loving and protective, though sometimes exasperating (as families are). There are many twists and turns along this journey. Oh, the surprises! I love this story!
