A group of women walk into a bar… gray. I never hesitate going to battle when my gut tells me I’m right. And right now, my gut—among other things—is speaking loud and clear about Jen Montgomery.
She’s in a bad situation. Not just bad—deep and black and ugly.
And I’m about to make it worse. She just doesn’t know it yet.
Warning: This author is also a mom who runs a PG-13 home. This book is not PG-13. If you are under the age of 18, do NOT pick up this book. This author doesn’t enjoy mama-drama of any sorts. Do her a favor and walk away.

Eli and Jen’s story is filled with family, suspense, and hotness!!! If you read The Killer’s series you got a glimpse of Eli in there, his story doesn’t disappoint. Jen is no wallflower and takes no crap, but learns to soften the edges for Eli. Together they are a force not to mess with and this story will hook you from page one.
5 “Don’t Call Me Jensen” Stars
Well, this Book title couldn’t have been more perfect! The two main characters, Eli and Jen definitely find themselves in one Bad Situation after the other.
From the beginning we are taken on a wild ride of seduction, suspense, action and danger. All of those combined create a wonderful book that I thuroughly enjoyed. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.
True to Brynne Asher fashion, the Heroine is strong-willed, smart and sassy – and the Hero is possessive and swoony-Alpha-delicious (yum)!
I am looking forward to more in the Montgomery Series!
OMG, Brynne has done it again, Bad Situation is a 5 star read!!!
Great Storyline-Check
Alpha Hero-Check
Bad Ass Herione-Check
Steamy sex scene’s-Check
Suspenseful-Check
Besides Cam from Athica Lane, Eli is my next favorite Alpha man from Brynne Asher’s books. Jen whom we also met in Athica Lane, is the epitome of today’s business woman that can have it all. He’s the bad a** FBI agent, she is the drop dead gorgeous smart as hell business woman, that is set to take over the Montgomery family business. Someone is out to get Jen, she is being set up and it’s Eli’s department that is sent to investigate her and send her to prison. There are so many things going against the two of them, and without giving too much away, they really seem to make their relationship work even with all the turmoil. Elis seems to have a “small secret” of his own, and Jen is determined to see what he is hiding. He knows everything there is to know about her, but Jen is in the dark to all his calls and messages, he doesn’t want to burden her while they deal with her mess. Will they make it through it all…well you just have to read it to find out for yourself.
I want hot as hell wall sex, I mean really who wouldn’t, it is one of the hottest scene’s I have ever read….need me some Eli.!! I enjoyed getting to know all the supporting characters in both of their lives as well, they both come from great families and that shines through in the book. I just was finally able to finish today, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Seriously don’t miss out on the first book in Brynne’s new Montgomery series, like all her books you can’t go wrong.
Think it’s time for a Carpino’s re-read. Love my Cam…xoxo.
This book was everything!!!! I can’t even explain how amazing it was. I seriously couldn’t put it down. I even broke the family rule of no electronics at the dinner table so I could keep reading! I cannot wait for the next book!
Bad Situation has evolved from two characters from two different series that this author has previously written. Jenson “Jen” Montgomery is the sister to Cam in the book Athica Lane (The Carpino Series) & Elijah “Eli” Pettit is in the book Paths (The Killer Series). You don’t have to read these books prior to reading Bad Situation, you should because they are awesome, but you won’t be lost if you haven’t.
Jen is a workaholic CFO to her families company. She is being investigated by the FBI for something she did or did not do. Eli is an FBI agent who has been assigned to her surveillance team but gets too close to her one night in a bar. After one sexy dance and a thorough background check on her, he’s a goner. When she realizes he’s part of the team investigating her, she’s smart enough to not jump in the deep end right away, he has to earn her loyalty. He is the ultimate alpha male who doesn’t stop when she puts up her walls he plows through them like only a true alpha male could. While doing this, the mystery of the charges against her get more complicated and you don’t know who’s guilty and who isn’t.
I don’t want to go into further detail about the story because I’m afraid I’ll give too much away. But this checked off all my boxes for me. It’s a great first book to a new series by this author. I can’t wait to read what comes next.
Oh my god what a read! A completely engrossing story you won’t be able to put down! Twists and turns, whispers of what’s to come and some super scorching hot chemistry, this book was FANTASTIC. I cannot wait for more of this series, and really, anything this author writes!
Romantic suspense gives you the best of both worlds. Brynne Asher’s Bad Situation jumps right in with a sexy meeting then a questioning of motives and truth.
Eli Pettit is all man – alpha and protective and doesn’t hesitate to go to that grey area when needed. He’s open but a little secretive that makes him slightly mysterious.
Jensen Montgomery is smart, savvy. She’s a strong, independent woman but also very loving and family oriented. She’s as comfortable in the boardroom as she is her home or family ranch.
Their relationship is a slow build with intensity and chemistry. Their banter was lighthearted, fun, and sexy. They fit. I loved the maturity of their relationship and communication.
The writing style is easy and the storyline flowed well and the twists and turns kept me turning the pages. The mystery kept me guessing with some unexpected obstacles that upped the complexity and intrigue. The secondary cast of characters definitely gives more to the story. It’s a terrific start to the Montgomery series.
Brynne Asher has done it again. Not only did we get to catch up a little with Cam and Paige, as well as the Carpino family, but we got to really get to know Jen(sen, but she hates her name) Montgomery this time around! She and Eli meet under—let’s call them less than ideal—circumstances, and have to sort their way through danger, drama, suspense, and the truly badly timed attraction they feel for each other.
Eli and Jen both enjoy their jobs, but not always the pressure or problems created by others for them to handle. When trouble brings them face to face on different sides in the fight of Jen’s life, Eli puts his career on the line to right the wrongs being done to Jen. Jen tries to resist Eli because she doesn’t want the appearance of impropriety to damage either of them, but she can’t force herself to truly push him away. When these two agree to throw caution to the wind and give in to their mutual attraction and put their hearts on the line, the good far outweighs the bad swirling around them. Even with drama llama family members, their bad situation manages to become a beautifully good one after some serious bumps in the road.
I continue to be impressed with Brynne’s ability to write a story that I never want to put down and can’t wait to see where she takes readers next!
Bad Situation is book one in the brand new series, The Montgomerys, by Brynne Asher. Holy Wow! What a book! I couldn’t put it down! Although it is definitely not required, I read Athica Lane and Paths before this so I had been introduced to the Montgomerys and briefly met Eli in Paths. So I knew a bit of the history. But, as I said, it is definitely not required because no matter what, you will love this book.
Jensen (Jen) Montgomery is thirty years old and soon will be taking over as CFO of her father’s company, Montgomery Industries. As soon as her father decides to step down and retire that is. Jen’s life is pretty much her work. She doesn’t have time for a personal life. But on a night when her friends from college dragged her out to a bar, something she never does, all it took was one touch from a man she briefly interacted with, and her world was turned upside down.
Elijah (Eli) Pettit is thirty four years old. He has spent the past several years deep under cover and he managed to take down one of the biggest crime families in history. But with his cover blown, he’s been sent to Dallas to work white collar crimes with the FBI. His co-worker, Bree, is gung ho on making a name for herself by investigating and taking down Jen Montgomery. Eli is on surveillance of her at the bar when he’s forced to intervene when an over zealous man comes on to her. All it took was one touch. He suddenly found himself treading that fine line between back and white, between right and wrong, that gray area he was forced to reside in so many times when he was under cover.
Jen’s world is suddenly thrown into a tail spin when she finds out she’s being investigated. But even more than that, when the FBI show up, one of their agents is the very same man that she met the night before in the bar. A man she felt a connection with. A man she hasn’t been able to forget.
Eli trusts his instincts, his gut. And his gut tells him that Jen is innocent. That she’s being framed. But who? And why is his co-worker so bent on taking her down?
Eli and Jen find themselves thrown into a very stressful situation, a situation where she is the accused, the target, and he is the investigator. But Eli knows she is innocent. And neither can deny the chemistry between them. So Eli swims in that gray area and does his best to protect Jen and to give them a chance to explore their feelings. He becomes her secret special agent. All Jen wants is a simple life. Maybe even to have that simple life with Eli. But with everything that has been thrown at her in the last couple of weeks, that possibility is looking less and less likely.
I want to stop there because I think that pretty well sets things up. Eli was amazing. He was sexy as heck and made me feel ALL the butterflies. He was an alpha, jealous, possessive, sexy hero that I completely fell in love with. And Jen, oh my gosh. This lady is tough but also soft and sweet. She had so much on her shoulders and I loved the way she was willing to lean just a little bit on Eli. That she did trust him, even though she knew she shouldn’t. The connection between these two was amazing.
This book pretty much had everything! It was hot and steamy, sweet and swoony, and tense and suspenseful. I absolutely could not stop reading. Brynne Asher has become such a favorite author of mine. I’ve read four of her books now and loved every single one. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. It will focus on Jen’s sister, Ellie.
I always love reading how the couple will meet, it was unusual in this case.
I mean you at a club and the gorgeous guy isn’t who you thought he was. I liked the mystery. I didn’t know how it was going to work out and that’s intriguing to me. I like when things are not so obvious and you’re kept guessing. I kept thinking there’s just no way these two are hooking up being on opposite sides of this bad situation. Eli is exactly how I love my male to be written, swoon worthy and uber alpha. He’s a great match for Jensen (love her name btw)
Everyone will be going on about Eli but you know what Jensen is a great character too, strong and feisty. How I like my female character.
The little scene between Jensen and her big bro Campbell made me miss him so much so if you haven’t read Athica Lane get on it, it will be the best read you ever had. Get on Grady too like literally in Path. There’s a reason this is called Bad Situation, it was one after the other and you do wonder how are they going to fix this. I loved it
4 stars. Every time I think of the title of this book I get the song Bad Reputation by Taylor Swift stuck in my head, only with the words switched to Bad Situation. LOL! “Bad Situation, Bad Situation, Ooh, you and me would be a bad situation, ah! And I heard about you, ooh! You like the bad ones too!”
Anyway, I digress… Bad Situation is a good book! It is the start of a brand new series, The Montgomerys. This book is the story of Jen, who is Cam Montgomery from Athica Lane’s sister, and Elijah/Eli Petit, who we met briefly in Paths. Jen is the CFO of Montgomery Industries, poised to take over as CEO for her father when he retires. She is a workaholic, with hardly any social life outside of work. But one night when her girlfriends drag her out, she meets Eli at a bar. They share a sexy dance but it ends there and Jen leaves. Eli is an FBI agent who just moved to Dallas. He just finished up a several year long stint of undercover work and is ready to have a real life and settle down. When he meets Jen, he feels an immediate connection. The only problem is he is part of an investigation of her and her company for insider trading. Their story and how they fall in love continues from there, but I don’t want to give too much away.
I loved Eli and Jen. They had a strong connection from the start. Jen is a boss lady. She is strong, but not bitchy. She has it all on the outside, but men are afraid of her power and money, so she is lonely. Eli was pretty perfect. Sexy, protective, and not intimidated by Jen. They were both open to love and there is no pushing away. I loved the way their relationship developed and how everything worked out. They were great together. They managed to overcome a “bad situation” and come out on top, strong together. This book was sexy and sweet with some funny moments and some suspense. I loved the strong family theme and the Texas setting. I love the Montgomery family, catching up with Paige and Cam, and I can’t wait for more from this series! The next book is going to be so good!
Overall, I really enjoyed Eli and Jen’s journey to love! This is a great start to a new series and I can’t wait for more from Ms. Asher!
As soon as I finished the book and SIGHED in happiness; I thought to myself, “HOW can I accurately portray my love for the slow-burn mixed with an immediate attraction that Brynne did so well here?” I am going to try!! To make a long review-short, this book does it all: badass characters, a bit of intrigue and surprise, attraction from the get-go, and perseverance through the HEA. <3
I love a badass, Eli is a badass. He is an FBI agent who brought down a BIG crime ring and has the arrogance to match -- with a mix of No-Rules mentality you are immediately attracted to as a woman. You want a piece of THAT fo' sho!
I love a badass woman more though and JEN is a badass woman. She runs a company, takes no prisoners, but at the same time has her feminity and female lush that makes women strong. She is someone I enjoy reading and someone who carries herself in the way I aim to -- which immediately drew me in!
Two characters that stand strong on their own, mixed with the off the charts attraction and the constant flirt with rule breaking added some adrenaline into the read that made it that much better. I also found myself wrapped up in the secondary characters who followed the journey and that added a richness to the story that made it impossible to put down. It was amazing to re-visit with the couples in Jen's family from previous Brynne books too... always good for the soul!
Lastly, there are some fun twists I didnt expect -- and I have read ALOT of romance books; I cannot wait until you get to those parts! the MOST important part that made me LOVE this book... she spoke to my "Kristen Ashley" soul when she added "the major strife" BUT it didnt break the up for days/weeks/years, instead they worked through it together but still held the same amount of emotion and response from the reader.
I found Brynne Asher through her foray into ARR's Kindle Family and fell in love immediately; she fits perfectly in with the greats who recognize that slow burn, small strife, and second-hand characters are what really makes a Romance pop.
Brynne Asher’s Bad Situation is an awesome read! From the start the dynamic between the two characters is great! Who doesn’t like a swoon worthy alpha male and the heiress to a multi million dollar empire combo; mix in a little suspense and mystery and you have yourself a great book!!
This is so much more than your typical love story it has depth and the characters are so well developed that you can’t help but want to continue reading! You will love the push and pull of Jensen and Eli they are opposites but they fit together perfectly.
I would definitely recommend this book looking for a book that will keep you intrigued from start to finish and have a little bit of everything so you don’t get bored half way through. Great job Brynne! Can’t wait for book 2.
Jen Montgomery works and sleeps. Driven to prove she is worthy to run the company after her father retires, she doesn’t do fun. When dragged out for a night on the town, she is intrigued by a guy who looks like he is having as much fun as she is. Eli didn’t want to be in the club with his coworkers. When a pretty brunette catches his eye, he doesn’t want to talk to her. When they start to dance, he knows he is in trouble. So he gives her a cold stare and she rushes out feeling foolish. How will she handle it when she sees Eli again?
Okay, I am very serious when it comes to the subject of spoilers, hence the very, very brief synopsis. I went into Bad Situation totally blind and I want everyone to do the same. Why, you might ask? Because it was AMAZING! Oh my gosh, Brynne Asher is unreal! I honestly wish I could adequately put into words how much I loved Jen and Eli. The attraction between them is seriously swoon worthy. Eli is a perfect book boyfriend, hot, tattooed and a bit of a dirty talker. Jen is fiesty and strong but lets down her guard with him. The secondary characters do not feel superfluous and just add to the awesomeness. There is a serious bit of suspense too, that keeps you thinking, wondering. If you like Kristen Ashley, you are going to love Brynne Asher. Six stars for Bad Reputation!
I thoroughly enjoyed this latest book by Brynne Asher. I am a huge fan of her writing style, a romance writer who builds her characters and her story line with more than just fluff and hot scenes.
Bad Situation is about Jensen Montgomery and Elijah Pettit. Jensen (Jen) is the current CFO of her family’s multi million dollar company who is being groomed for the CEO position just as soon as her dad decides to retire. Elijah (Eli) is a superstar FBI agent with a huge bust under his belt and now relocated to the DFW area. Eli and Jen meet (by chance?) at a club while Jen is out with friends on a rare night out for the workaholic. What ensues with Jen and Eli is nothing but a “bad situation”.
THIS is what I love about Ms. Asher’s writing style!! She keeps you engaged and drawn in to the characters. This book I think of as a roller coaster of ups and downs, twists and turns. Just when you think the problem has been resolved…boom…nope you take a hard right turn and off again!!
The connection is perfect between Jen and Eli, perfect meaning there is just enough angst and frustration between them and the story to keep it well paced and not dull in the least. I look forward to reading this book again as I love rereads and revisiting old book friends which Jen and Eli are definitely!!
If you like your romance books to have substance along with the love story you will not be dissappointed in Bad Situation. Eli is a perfect alpha who is not only protective but caring and loves to have his hands on his lady. Jen is a heroine who can definitley hold her own, she is no damsel in distress but in the bedroom she lets Eli take charge.
I am a fan of Ms. Asher’s work and I look forward to reading more from her in the future!! I have not read a book by her yet where I was dissappointed and left wanting more from the story. I was only left wanting more books of hers to read!
*** I did receive an ARC copy in advance of the book’s release for an HONEST review.***
Brynne Asher’s latest release is so good and impossible to put down. I devoured it one night…I paid for it the next day but it was well worth it. Nate and Jen were perfection. I have read all of Brynne’s other books and it was such a treat getting a more in-depth glimpse into the Montgomery family (if you haven’t read Athica Lane…do so NOW!). I won’t say too much about the book because I truly cannot do it justice. I will say that one thing I loved most about the relationship between Jen and Nate was how they never gave up on each other or their relationship. They stuck it out and worked through all their “problems” together. Worth all 5 stars and then some!
I can’t wait for more of the Montgomery’s!
Grab a copy and settle in! I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Ahhh this book. It owned my Saturday morning. I pretty much cancelled all my plans and sat with this book and a never ending cup of coffee.
I could not and would not set it down.
This book featured three of my favorite things:
1/A man with a badge
2/Texas
3/Kick ass women
Eli Pettit is hands down my favorite alpha lead. His life in the FBI has robbed him of time … 4 years under cover means his life has been put on hold. Now that assignment is over and he’s off to Texas. His new assignment has him investigating Jen Montgomery. But one look at Jen and her ass, and he is a goner. Can I just say how cute it is that he loves her booty. Seriously, it’s super cute.
Jensen Montgomery is 100% work and no play. Tapped to take over the family business she has no time for going out with friends or dating. Jen works harder than anyone at MI … after all its her family name on the company logo. So between work and her family, her crazy crazy family, she has no time for extras. Except fashion and shoes … she loves her shoes, all the shoes.
Jen has a take charge attitude and she refuses to be bossed around, both in business and personal life. She knows how to command a meeting with high profile executives and powerful attorneys as well as as persistent FBI special agent who doesn’t want her working out with anyone but him.
It was fun getting an update on Jen’s brother Cam and his in-laws the Carpinos . If you haven’t read the Carpino series go do that right now. Also, while you are at it read the The Killers series, you won’t be sorry. Both series are 5 star ratings in my book. They are fun, sexy, and smartly done. Now we get the pleasure of adding Bad Situation to Brynne’s catalog and that makes us readers extremely lucky.
So sit down and clear your calendar because once you start reading Bad Situation you won’t want to put it down.
ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I couldn’t put this book down. What a great read and great start to a new chapter. I cannot wait for the rest of this series. I loved Jen and Eli. Their chemistry is off the charts!!! There was drama, romance, twist and turns. I read this book cover to cover. I want more!! I loved that we got to hear from some of our Carpino favorites too!! I loved their relationship. I didn’t start out in a traditional way but then they got together it was fireworks!!! Great read and great new series. Can’t wait for whats next.
Bad A$$ woman and a super Alpha hero makes for an explosive read that I did not want to put down! Intrigue, mayhem, family ties, suspense, and a love that you will want to make as your own goals. Well written with relatable characters makes this book a great read. This will be a book that I will come back to reread because it was that freaking good! I can’t wait to read more!
Thanks to kids, Halloween, a needy hubby, birthday parties and just not enough time in the day, it took me 4 days to finish Bad Situation. Those were the longest days of my life, people. All I wanted to do was park my rear end in my chair and read this incredible book cover to cover. But those dang kids with their adorable faces made me do all the things. UGH. Rant over. Bottom line? Bad Situation is the best possible situation to put yourself in. Okay, that was super corny. But seriously, it may just be my favorite BA book to date. And y’all know how much I fangirl over her. So that’s saying A LOT.
Story Line: I’m so freaking excited to say there is so much I CAN’T say. Before you say I’ve lost my marbles, hear me out. Bad Situation weaves a multitude of characters and story lines throughout. Some of those characters, if I tell you who I’m talking about, will give away way too much info. So unless I’m talking about our two gorgeous main characters (I mean, look at that cover. OH MAMA. So hot!), I probably won’t mention any other names. Sorry. Not Sorry. Eli is the smoking hot FBI agent. And Jen is the CFO of her family’s company. The CFO with a major addiction to shoes. You guys, she is like the Carrie Bradshaw of shoes. She puts them away in their own special bins after wearing them. Wanna know what my closet looks like? Good. Me neither. Anywho, Jen gets into a sticky legal battle that Eli’s division/dept (I’m horrible with proper lingo – don’t hate me) is unfortunately chest deep in. So, that’s how their paths cross, however their lives intertwine, mingle, overlap, you name it, in so many ways. Brynne is an absolute genius story teller. I promise, you will be hanging on her every word wondering what magic she will produce next.
Interaction: Eli and Jen are EVERYTHING. He’s alpha he-man tough guy who shoots the bad guys. She’s drop dead gorgeous, magazine cover worthy, lady boss. They both have tough as nails exterior personalities, so of course there’s going to be a clash or two. Or three or four. But they handle conflict within their relationship so freaking perfectly. Their relationship isn’t perfect. They both know it’s an eff’d up situation. But what they know deep in their souls, is that this thing of theirs is never going away. So they fight for each other in the best way possible. And I fell in love with these two over and over and over again.
Laundry: I want wall burn. There. I said it. After reading this book, and the fire that is Eli and Jen, yeah… I’m going to need to get on the wall laundry wagon because it sounds super. But then I remember I’m fluffy and my hubs has a little fluff and it just wouldn’t work for us like it does for these hotties with the bodies. But there is so much more laundry than just the wall scene(s). Eli is a man of many talents. One of which requires traveling south of the border, which he does quite a bit. And I’m 100 percent okay with that. Because that’s the kind of naughty deliciousness I need in my life.
Depth: I want to go into so much detail here. But if I do, there may be spoilers and BA may never let me review her books again, so be prepared for some vague comments. First of all, is Jen guilty? Can’t answer that. But what I can say is I finished this book being her number one fan. So, take with that what you will. And can we just take a second and talk about families and how polar opposite they are? One side is crazy close, all up in each other’s business. The other is estranged and struggling. But the struggle of one individual with Alzheimer’s is really what hit home for me. My grandma is an Alzheimer’s/Dementia patient and it’s the hardest freaking thing in the world to deal with. Having someone be mentally with you for a few glorious moments, followed by them taking a trip back 40 years and you’re no longer their grandchild, but now their friend from school? Guts me every single time. But the way the disease is handled and discussed is perfectly beautiful. OH, and how can I forget? Why is this book one of my favorites ever? Because Jen is an accomplished equestrian which just solidifies that she is the skinny reach version of me.
Bad Situation was as mesmerizing as it was heart pounding. I will forever recommend this book because it is just that good. 5 stars? Try 5 thousand.
