A group of women walk into a bar… gray. I never hesitate going to battle when my gut tells me I’m right. And right now, my gut—among other things—is speaking loud and clear about Jen Montgomery.
She’s in a bad situation. Not just bad—deep and black and ugly.
And I’m about to make it worse. She just doesn’t know it yet.
Warning: This author is also a mom who runs a PG-13 home. This book is not PG-13. If you are under the age of 18, do NOT pick up this book. This author doesn’t enjoy mama-drama of any sorts. Do her a favor and walk away.

Wow! Don’t know where to even start. You will LOVE Eli from the beginning, he is so swoon worthy. This book is full of twists that keeps you guessing that you never want to end.
Loved it! This book CAN be read as a standalone – however, for those of you who’ve read Athica Lane (and if you haven’t you are SO missing out and should run and read it immediately) you just might recognize the characters in this book as Cam’s family in Texas. This book’s main character Jen is his sister. The timeline of this book also runs along the same thread as the epilogue in Athica Lane.
What I loved about this book was the strong characters. Both of them are confident people in their own right and bring that to their budding relationship. For Jen, she is a woman in charge and makes it look good! She is running the family businesses – soon to take over fully from her father Kipp – and does it while not coming across as a ball buster like some ‘strong’ female characters do (IMO). For Eli, he is a swoon worthy Alpha man who has no problem being in a relationship with a woman who is clearly more wealthy than he is and also arguably more powerful in the business world. This doesn’t phase him at all! He is totally comfortable in his skin and masculinity and it is the best thing about him, for me.
The main theme of the story though is the FBI investigation that brings Eli into Jen’s world and the mystery that leads the story. The only downside to this was that, again for me, this sort of overtook the romance in the story a bit making this a 4 star read instead of 5. Don’t let that put you off this though as the romance is still a big factor in the story and this is a great read! Looking forward to more…
This is one of my favorite books of the year. It truly has it all, love, romance, family, mystery, suspense, twists and turns, great characters and a great plot. It is well written and draws you in from the first word. It was a longer read but I still wish there was more. I can’t wait to get more of this series and all of these characters.
Jenson Montgomery is set to take over her family business. She is the only one of her siblings that ever showed interest in following in her father’s footsteps and while she loves it she certainly feels the pressure of being the Montgomery heiress. She is definitely jealous of her siblings and their lives outside of the spotlight but really loves being a part of her family legacy. She thought trying to prove that she is more than her last name was going to be one of her biggest trials but little did she know that wouldn’t compare to what she was about to go through. Jenson is tough but I loved that she did let her guard down and showed her vulnerable side. It just took the right person for her to be able to show that side and let those emotions free. Jen is strong, sassy, knows how to command a room but is also totally devoted to her family and those she loves. She is one of my favorite heroines.
Elijah Pettit is probably the most known FBI agent. He helped take down the MacLachlans in one of the biggest mob under cover stings ever. This is how he ended up in Dallas. His and Jen’s story starts off rocky but the passion Eli has for Jen shines through it all. From the moment they locked eyes, things became complicated in the best way possible. I loved that Eli wasn’t willing to give up Jen no matter what. He was willing to risk it all to protect her and never doubted her truth.
This story really had me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who was behind it all. Just when I thought I had it, the author would throw a twist that had me rethinking everything. This book was so well thought out and the plot was so well written. I am excited for the next book in this series.
I am a huge fan of this author’s writing. The women are always strong and funny. The men are alpha without being over the top and the storylines are fresh and engaging. This book was no exception.
Eli is in my top BBFs of 2018. He was Yummy with a capital Y!! I loved his banter with Jen. His strength of character and his moral code. It all felt very genuine. Their chemistry was palpable from their first meeting and might have caused my kindle to melt a little. Wowsa!
Add in plenty of action with a dash of suspense, great supporting characters and a few laughs and I was a very happy reader. Definitely recommend this one and can’t wait for her next release.
Sometimes Bad Situations turn into HEA’s…
I didn’t meet the love of my life in a bar/nightclub but if my memory serves me right, I remember wishing that the love of my life found me and swept me off my feet. The reality…I drank too much, probably danced like an Oompa Loompa on crack (without the orange skin tone…I think), and most of the blokes I met had one thing on their mind. My sister found the love of her life on the dance floor, so it can happen. Sometimes, even a Bad Situation on the dance floor could change your whole world.
There’s a list of Brynne Asher’s stories I wish I had re-read before starting Bad Situation. Of course, I know this NOW. But, I kind of went in not knowing much about who I would meet or re-meet, and what I would be getting. It’s great to go in blind but considering my shocking memory, it would have been nice to have a few of the characters fresher in my mind. Saying that, I love Brynne’s work and I should make more time for re-reads anyways. Ooh, and I’m not saying you have to read Brynne’s other work to enjoy Bad Situation BUT if you haven’t read Brynne yet…what the heck are you waiting for?????
So, Bad Situation starts off with a shake and shimmy that goes a little bad. The shake and shimmy were never meant to happen. A little too late, Jen is realising drunken shenanigans are not what they used to be. Jen’s work is her priority and the alcohol is not going to help get the work done. Eli is supposed to be doing his job. Obviously, Jen doesn’t know she’s the job and only sees the hot and serious guy who steps in when a bloke gets a little handsy with Jen. What follows is a connection that neither realised would change their Bad Situation into a nightmare.
I really enjoyed this story and was sucked into Jen and Eli’s love story from the very first page. I don’t have a lot in common with Jen, seeing as she’s a multi-millionaire big boss who’s work is her top priority. There are times that I can see past the dollars to a woman just like me. She has her doubts and insecurities, is looking for her happy place, and has a strong loyalty to her family. I could see that Eli struggled with Jen’s money, not because he wants to be better than her, just that he thinks they’re too different. It takes time, and a few hiccups for them both to realise that love can conquer all.
I would say that the suspense was on equal par with the romance in this one. It’s there from the start and is constantly in the back of your mind. Who has it in for Jen that they would ruin her whole world? Would the grey area that Eli must step into to see Jen out of trouble mean the end of his career with the FBI? I admit, I guessed the baddy from the beginning but I was completely bamboozled by the accomplice, to be honest. I would have liked to see them suffer, in a “behind bars” kind of way, a wee bit more.
Family plays a huge part in Bad Situation, dealing with the good and bad parts. I love knowing that all loving families have good and bad parts. It makes the dramas (both my sisters are drama teachers…poor me) I’ve lived through not seem so bad after all.
I really enjoyed this fast-paced, very sexy and exciting story. Brynne Asher has again treated us to a hero that is swoon-worthy, affectionate and very bossy. Our heroine is someone to admire and I loved to think that there are women out there on the same path. This is the first book in the series and I’m very excited for more.
Wow, this book kept me on my toes…when I thought I knew what was going on, I didn’t! Brynne Asher does it again with her brilliantly written crime stories of mystery, intrigue, suspense and hot hot sexy romance!!
One night out, one dance, four minutes. Jen and Eli, a meeting of two very different people, one who has a hidden agenda. Nothing between them is black and white, and that grey area is very large and very steamy!
Ohhhh … ELI! Now this is definitely a character that has dominant alpha male written all OVER him! His character definitely needed someone like Jen. She is not afraid to go after what she wants, but she is also a down to earth character. Being the CFO of a company is hard, but being the CFO of the family company is even harder. So she balances both her personal and professional life very well. But damn does she fall down the rabbit hole in this book.
There is everything within this story that set my tingling meter going. There is drama (thankfully not baby momma!), danger, intrigue, passion, and sexy as sin scenes that are melt worthy. The suspense if kept on through the story with the why’s and how’s. Some of this I totally didn’t expect, but have to admit that some of it I did.
But overall, I LOVED the book. The characters are awesome and we even get some glimpses of characters from her other series’ as well. And …. I think know who is going to get their own HEA! And if it is who I think it is, it is going to be one hell of an epic story! Can’t wait to see what is coming next.
This book was so damn good. Loved all the suspense and I always love a good shock, or multiple shocks. Jen is a stubborn, but down to earth, fashionista CFO at her father’s company. Eli is a badass FBI agent that is new to town and on the team investigating Jen. These two were burning up my kindle, even before they were a couple. There was a scene on a dance floor, not gonna lie, didn’t think that could be written as sexy, clearly I was wrong, because it was hot af. When the words “wall-sex burn” are involved….whew….just sayin.
This was a great storyline with a lot of suspense. I always love her male characters, she always writes the best book boyfriends, I know because her Killers series has my whole harem of book boyfriends in them. Safe read, hot af, shit ton of baby batter. Surprise appearances from some characters of her other series, including my Grady. No om or ow drama. Great epilogue and hea.
Oh… My…. Heart… Bad Situation was so emotionally raw, incredibly sexy and completely and utterly gripping, it instantly went to my favorites reads of 2018! Jen and Eli will definitely have a permanent spot in my booklover’s heart! Bad Situation was the PERFECT kind of Situation, I’d say… Sigh…
Coming as sort of crossover between Ms. Asher’s already amazing series, Carpinos and Killers, I couldn’t be happier in getting Jen and Eli’s story! For those of you, fangirls like yours truly, Jen is sister to Athica Lane’s Cam and Eli had a small – but relevant – appearance on Paths. So I was already intrigued by them as characters on their own, but these two together?! Oh boy, I was not ready for this level of chemistry!
From the very first look, first touch, the chemistry between them was SCORCHING! And that first meeting would mean so much more, specially when the true reasons behind the encounter are unveiled and Elijah’s FBI role comes forward and in how much it is connected to Jen! A Bad and complicated Situation indeed…
A tricky situation, and with potential to blow up in their faces, but nothing or no one is going to prevent Eli from taking what – or better yet, WHO – he wants: Jenson Montgomery. This man… Alpha with a capital A, I tell you! From that very first instant he’s captivated like never before and knows he NEEDS Jen, and she needs him just as much. Now he just had to convince the tough and strong willed businesswoman of all that, LOL.
And here is lies a HUGE factor for the awesomeness that is Bad Situation, because not only does Eli not give up on his quest, but this kind of push and pull – added to deliciously and mature banter – just adds to the most scorchingly HOT build up, not only emotional slow burn, but sizzling hot foreplay and sexy times. And don’t get me started on the real sexy times… NSFW warning level of HOTNESS!
Elijah Petit, for a man of not many words, sure knew how to enchant us – and Jen, lol – with not only the most caring of actions, but some swoon worthy moments. Like I said, ALL the Alphaness: protective, possessive and passionate, and to top it of, there was no doubt that Jen came first, no matter the consequences. Swoon….
And Jen… Brynne Asher really outdid herself with this female character! Not many times we get to read in romance about female main characters in such high power roles, but sadly even less with such realism, and veracity to the character. Yes, Jen was beyond strong in all matters, but her hidden fragility, insecure moments, and unwavering femininity and strength completely won me over. She and her emotions were so incredibly real that I found myself crying – with is very rare for this blackhearted reader 😉 – more than once LIVING her feeling along with her. That’s jus how EXTRAORDINARY this book was!
Brynne Asher really knocked it out of the park with Bad Situations. As always the slow burn, the instant attraction and the incredibly creating world building talent were there, yet the outstandingly complex and real feeling characters always give it a brand new touch and remind me once again why the author is standing feature auto-read/all-time-fav list. You can not read these books and not fall in love right along with them. They hook you from the very start and you became addicted, and therefore, craving more and more. Exactly like here, Bad Situation gave us an amazing ending for Jen and Eli, but here I am already desperate for the next book, specially with those teasing bombs along the way! I need ALL the Montgomerys books STAT!!! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Bad Situation is a great start to this new series from Brynne Asher! It kept me on my toes from start to finish, wondering who was trying to frame Jen, along with some twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. And the chemistry she had with Eli – it was so evident from the moment they stepped on the dance floor together. Once they saw each other again at her company, there was no way they could stay away from each other. Loved the drama, the action, the mystery, the romance…..and I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series!
Bad Situation, the first book in The Montgomery series was such a great read. The 2 main characters in this book – Jensen Montgomery (Jen) and Elijah Pettit (Eli) would sound familiar to those readers that have read this authors other books. We first met Jen in Athica Lane (sister to the main male character Cam) and Eli pops up in the storyline in Paths. Bad Situation is definitely a standalone, and those 2 books DO NOT need to be read before Bad Situation, however they are also really good reads so I would recommend them to someone that hasn’t picked those 2 up yet.
Jen and Eli certainly have an interesting and rather bumpy start to getting to know each other. Poor Jen finds her life turned upside down, and is hesitant to trust others due to the situation she finds herself in. Eli has his work cut out for him in trying to gain her trust. I loved how Eli doesn’t just follow the pack, he is very strong minded, and does what he thinks is right.
The book is written in the alternate POV of both Jen and Eli. Also included is the occasional POV of one other character. The storyline definitely kept me guessing. I was pretty sure I knew who the bad guy was, then I changed my mind and thought it was someone else……..and THEN I changed my mind again. So glad when it all came to a head, and I finally knew for sure what was happening.
Bad Situation is also filled with lots of my favourite characters – The Montgomery’s and The Carpino’s. I loved seeing other favourites in the storyline – there can never be enough Paige and Cam, or Gabby and Jude. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
5 “I’d Give It More If I Could” Stars
Every time I pick up a new book from Ms. Asher I caution myself that it couldn’t possibly be better than the last but it’s just as good—each and every single time, Bad Situation was so good, I just don’t have enough stars to rate it with.
Although we’ve met both main characters in previous books by the author, this can be absolutely read as a standalone, though if you haven’t read them all yet, you’re sorely missing out.
Jen is in a whole lot of trouble and Eli finds himself being the one to get her out of it, even if he’s part of the team investigating her. With a strong and instant attraction that they both try to fight at first, these two have a lot of hoops to jump through before being able to be together. Now, as I received an ARC copy of this and this author really doesn’t want any spoilers, that’s all I can say about it.
I absolutely loved everything about this book. Jen was funny and sweet, but also had a will of iron and loads of gumption. She did not let anyone walk over her and could seriously butt heads with Eli like a pro.
“I can talk to anyone I want to about cocks,” I counter. “You haven’t even kissed me.”
“But I’ve had my hands on you. You were wet for me earlier – don’t deny it. I had tangible evidence.”
Eli was swoony in every way possible. Alpha, bossy and hot as molten lava, he had a protective and possessive streak a mile wide and he put all his considerable skills to good use. Repeatedly.
“What I really want to do is drive south, cross the border, find a hut on the beach and forget all the shit swirling around. That might be considered abduction by some but, to me, right now, it’s sounds nothing short of utopia.”
Eli and Jen’s chemistry was absurdly hot and I completely adored them together. There was not one thing I did not enjoy about this story. It had humor and silliness, crazy families, sweet lovely romance, steaming hot sexnanigans, action, suspense and more plot twists than you can imagine. Every time I was sure I knew what was going on I got my assumptions shoved up my a—nose.
“Who are you?
“I’m trying to be a normal guy who’s not an FBI agent, but who still likes your ass”
In less words: do not miss out on this book. It doesn’t get better than Bad Situation and I can hardly wait to see what comes next!
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book*
Bad Situation by author Brynne Asher is the new series called “The Montgomerys” and this brings us to the story of Jen Montgomery and Eli Pettit. They both have been featured in previous books by Ms. Asher but now we get to a book featuring their characters and which goes deeper into their characters and see what makes them tick.
Jensen/Jen is the current CFO of her family’s multi -million dollar company who is being readied for the CEO position just as soon as her dad gets ready to retire. Elijah/Eli is this rockstar FBI agent who has this huge bust to his name but at a cost to Eli and has now relocated to the DFW area. Eli and Jen end up meeting at a club while Jen is out with her friends which is very unusual for Jen, who is this total workaholic. What happens with Jen and Eli from then on in the story is nothing but a complex, unique , intense, action-packed, sizzling and a red-hot “bad situation”.
The chemistry and connection between Cam and Jen is amazing. This story has everything that will have you glued from start to finish. I enjoyed even reading about the secondary characters introduced in the story and cant wait to read stories about them. What an awesome and beautiful read.
My Rating: 4.8 stars. *****
Eli and Jensen. Two of the most unlikely people to come together ..what a bad situation! But the characters have such intense chemistry that they can’t stay away from each other. Someone she knows is trying to frame Jensen and send her jail. The main characters meet, not conventionally, and then meet again. This story is told is told with such substance. The plot weaves throughout the story and leads the reader ….often times to a surprise twist.
The other thing that this story concentrates on is the unique bond of family and friends. Characters from previous books make a cameo here and there, and there is such love and loyalty throughout the story.
This book definitely goes in the reread pile!
5 HOT ELI STARS!! Holy Smokes this book was phenomenal!! The story had all the feels with lots of twists and turns to keep me flipping pages. Jen and Eli’s story was full of hot chemistry, great banter, suspense and sexy times. Brynne Asher has become one of my top authors with her magnetic storytelling that sticks with you forever. You definitely need to 1-Click this book.
THIS BOOK IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
Brynne Asher.. I bow to you..you’re awesome.
I won’t spoil it for anyone, because you have to go blind. but I’ll guarantee you.. if you’re a fan of Brynne’s you’ll love it.
So many emotions when reading this book.
Jensen Montgomery landed herself in a really bad situation with a FBI agent who is protective of her.
The story-line is amazing and with secondary characters that I can’t wait to read about.
My favorite Brynne Asher’s book and one of my favorite this year.
Can’t wait for more of the Montgomery’s.
ALL THE STARS IN THE UNIVERSE FOR THIS BOOK!!
A soon-to-be CEO and an FBI agent caught up in a bad situation. How can this possibly lead to a Happily Ever After? Bad Situation tells the story of Jen and Eli, who come from different worlds and all. Jen and Eli seem like an odd couple at first, but not surprisingly they can’t resist each other. I’ve enjoyed reading their story!
“He’ll do anything for me—I know it.”
Jen is a hardworking woman. From a young age it was clear that she would take over her father’s company, something she doesn’t mind at all. She takes pride in her work, although she acknowledges the long hours don’t do her social life any good. Eli is an FBI agent who just has started working a ‘normal’ FBI job. He’s done with undercover work and pretending to be one of the bad guys, so white-collar crime is his new thing. When Jen and Eli meet, both are intrigued. But unknowingly to Jen, she’s a person of interest for the FBI… And Eli is one of the investigators…
“He says nothing, but he tips his head and cocks a brow. An invitation. A silent one … but still, an invitation all the same.”
Bad Situation is the first book in the new ‘Montgomery Series’ by Brynne Asher. Like her other books there’s a sweet yet strong leading lady, an Alpha hero, a few bad guys and a whole bunch of friendly, supportive side characters. And if you wonder about a number of these people, yes you have met them in previous books. Always good to see beloved characters again! Since this is book 1 in the series, a few hints are dropped for the next books to come, I can’t wait to read them.
“Her hair brushes my skin, reminding me what it was like when she was in my arms and how much I want her there again.”
Jen and Eli are an awesome couple together. Yes, their start is a bit rough (who wouldn’t be upset when finding out hunky guy is investigating you for bad stuff), but when Eli starts to listen to his gut feelings all changes fast. Together Eli and Jen are going after the truth, while getting to know each other very well (wink wink, not just their personal favorite foods and movies). I love Jen and Eli, they bring out the best in each other and are very supportive. I love their Happily Ever After, one big swoon!
“There’ll never be a day that I don’t track you.” Tears escape her eyes even as a smile breaks across her beautiful face. “I’ll be happy for you to creep on me. Forever.”
4.5 stars
Holy heck! Talk about your romantic thrillers! This is definitely one to check out!
Jensen and Eli will for sure be going onto my favorite heroine/hero list. I absolutely loved everything about them. Jen is fierce and independent with a bit of sass but man oh man, she’s got trouble up the wazoo. Talk about a bad situation. This is that into infinity. Eli might be the man to help her out of her troubles but he’s also carrying a boatload of his own so there’s no telling where all the crazy that’s going on around them will end.
I adored the fact that Eli was so completely dedicated to helping Jensen from pretty much the first moment they met. He’s in a precarious position himself but as someone who is quite comfortable with life’s gray areas, it’s something he may just be able to make work. If his protective instincts towards Jen wasn’t enough for me to love him, then his possessive jealousy pushed me right over and made me giddy at finding a new perfect hero.
This book starts out pretty fast and it never slows down. I couldn’t get enough of this story and found myself consuming each page voraciously, never skimming or even wanting to skim. There is no repetition and the writing is fresh and crisp with a hint of humor to balance out the drama. The steam is off the charts and by the time this couple fully consummate their relationship I’m sure my Kindle was in danger of a complete melt down. Secondary characters are freaking amazing without taking over the story and I’m now that fan that is never satisfied with the last book…I need the next one NOW!
I’m definitely recommending this to any and everyone who loves their romances with some suspense, a bit of a twist, plenty of steam, and a hero and heroine who will steal your heart.
SIMPLE.
Omg I stayed up all night reading this novel! It was so worth it. I started reading and I literally did not want to put it down. This novel grabbed me from the very first page until the very last . I did not want this novel to end. I seriously loved this authors other novels. This novel did not disappoint. I think that her novels are getting better each time. I adored the chemistry, so hot. I loved the characters. I loved the dialogue and the banter was fabulous. I love a novel that can make you laugh out loud and leave you feeling awesome and with a smile on your face. That is how I felt after staying up all night reading. This novel just makes me happy.
One thing for sure that I can say is that I have enjoyed every book I have read from this author. I also love when characters are intertwined in books so you still get a little of another favorite book.
Eli and Jen were not meant to find each other but a chance encounter change it all and rules were broken that weren’t meant to be. to find out more you need to read this one for yourself.
I chuckled a few times reading this one and will forever read this author whenever she puts a book out. I don’t say much with my reviews as I could practically tell the story and don’t want to ruin it for others. Since this is a new series and if you have not read anything from this author, you should read this one but also check out her other books as you will not be disappointed.
