A group of women walk into a bar… gray. I never hesitate going to battle when my gut tells me I’m right. And right now, my gut—among other things—is speaking loud and clear about Jen Montgomery.
She’s in a bad situation. Not just bad—deep and black and ugly.
And I’m about to make it worse. She just doesn’t know it yet.
Warning: This author is also a mom who runs a PG-13 home. This book is not PG-13. If you are under the age of 18, do NOT pick up this book. This author doesn’t enjoy mama-drama of any sorts. Do her a favor and walk away.

Jensen Montgomery is feeling her age, it is not that she is over the hill but she just doesn’t want to be out having a night out with the girls when she could be at home relaxing. She is bored and she sees a man who looks equally as bored.
Eli Pettit is an FBI agent who is currently investigating Jensen, however he doesn’t expect her to walk up to him and introduce herself. Nor does he plan to find himself interested in a potential white collar criminal. Eli has always been a detective who choses to form his own path, even if it is shady. He realizes quickly that Jensen is innocent and he also realizes he is going to help her. Problem is she is stubborn and angry about being duped on their initial meeting. Eli though is going to prove to Jensen he is worth her trust, what will happen though when it looks like Jensen is being setup and it is someone in her inner circle?
This had been on my shelf for awhile and I am regretting not picking it up sooner. It was intense. The chemistry between Eli and Jensen is spectacular and Eli is so intense and all alpha male. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and was surprised by a couple of the turns in the book. Look forward to reading more in this series.
I’m a huge fan of this authors work. This book Altho the start of a new is a crossover and contains previous characters we know and love. This book tore me up and kept me on edge the whole way through. Wonderful book.
Bad Situation is the first book in an amazing series by Brynne Asher. If you’ve read Brynne’s pas books, you’ve briefly been introduced to the the Montgomerys before. Regardless as to if you’ve been introduced to any of Brynne’s books before you’re sure to love Bad Situation! It’s a must read for anyone who loves the romance or romantic suspense genre. Brynne’s stories are always so full of life and before too long in any book she makes you fall in love with these characters, you always want to be a member of these crazy families, laughing and crying with them through all life throws their way you become their biggest cheerleader and never want them to end!
We follow Jen (Jensen) Montgomery she’s thirty years old, a workaholic and is chomping at the bit to take over Montgomery Industries, she knows her father is about ready to step down from CEO and she wants to be ready to take over the company with ease. Eli (Elijah) Pettit is thirty four, he’s worked for years undercover with the FBI, recently his cover was blown and he has been sent to work with easier crimes in Dallas.
Craziness surrounds these two from the very start and they’re both caught up in a bad situation! The sparks fly immediately between Jen and Eli they both know they have roadblocks in their way, Eli is determined to make this work, he’s a perfect mix between being dominant, while also very loving and protective. Jen is very much working in a mans world, she’s always put work first but now she wants to make this new space for Eli.
As always with Brynne I love these two, life may knock these two down along the way but they’re always willing to rebuild and rebuild it together. You still get a few glimpses of your favorite characters from other books which I always love. Jen and Eli’s relationship from the start is full of gray areas, lucky for them gray areas tend to be Eli’s specialty.
“For a bad situation, you’re pretty fucking perfect.”
Brynne hit it out of the park with Bad Situation, whenever I see something new from Brynne I know it’s going to be a must read, I devour every book from her from start to finish and Bad Situation was no different. You’ll laugh, and cry, you’ll want to hold their hand through the rough times and be their best cheerleader. Brynne truly does connect with her readers in a way very few authors do, it’s raw, it’s emotional and so good you’ll be longing for more! Jen is completely full of sass but loves so fiercely, Eli is a dominant alpha from the very start and even though the lines may be blurred with his work it’s never a question who he will protect in the end.
The second book in this series is Broken Halo! I generally speaking am not ever a fan of second chance romances and Broken Halo blew me away, yes it’s really that good! My review for it is below!

Ms. Asher is a newly discovered author to me and everything that I have read of her’s has been great so far. Bad Situation is a romantic suspense that kept me engaged util the final page. Jen “Don’t call her Jensen” Montgomery is the CEO of the family business. Even though it was expected that she would take over the company’s reigns when her father retires she has worked hard to prove that she’s up to the job. She decides to go out one night with friends and runs into the most interesting guy that she has come across in a long time. What she doesn’t know is that undercover FBI agent Eli Pettit has been assigned to her case regarding possible SEC violations. When Jen finds out about this case on Monday she is shocked because she knows that she has never done anything illegal with her family’s business and she is really disappointed that Eli was not interested in her as a person but as a case. The problem is Eli is interested in her and that lands them in a bad situation that just keeps getting worse. Someone is setting Jen up and Eli is determined to find out who it is. Eli also has secrets of his own and if he an Jen are going to go the distance, he needs to talk to her about everything. This book was so good and I can’t say anymore without giving away secrets and there are secrets! It’s a hot, funny, twisted ride and I recommend reading it.
Give me a sexy, danger-edgy, laid-back, uber-confident, bossy, protective, alpha hero and I’m putty in his (and the author’s) hands. And omgoodness did Elijah Pettit make me melt!
I absolutely adored Eli and everything about him from his values and honor to his bossy mouth to his booty-lovin’ hands! haha! And Jen was the perfect mix of woman for him – she was definitely capable and smart and strong, but still all feminine and soft, simple and sweet. They each needed each other, and gave to each other in ways that clicked perfectly.
This story just worked for me – the way they connected, how Eli pursued Jen and they fell in love, how family was shown to be the mix of blessing and beautiful-burden, the bad-guy story line, and just simply the characters themselves.
If you’re looking for a low on silly drama, but high on excitement and intrigue, laughs and swoons, you definitely found the right book!! Don’t miss their story!
I loved this book. Loved it loved it loved it. Start to finish it was perfect. I have yet to read a Brynne Asher book and be disappointed.
If you haven’t read this book or any of her backlist you need to stop everything and get on it.
SQUEEEAK! Eli & Jen! Eli & Jen!!! Get ready for a wild ride, because these two are bantery & steamy & amazing! The story has twists & turns & OMH moments as well as LOL moments and *fans self* moments. Really, it has it all, and blends in some Cam & Paige quite perfectly.
I absolutely ADORE these characters, including the supporting cast (Jen’s sister, I can’t wait to read her story!!). Y’all know I’m a fan of banter, and I know I mentioned it above, but it’s just SO GOOD that it’s worth a second mention. There are text conversations (love love love!) that made me LOL, too. All the thumbs up, a recommendation & a favorite right here. Plus, it made me want to read Athica Lane & Paths again… *grin* : )
Another hit by Brynne! Having read her previous Killers series before Bad Situation, I was a tiny bit familiar with Eli. But I had not read her Carpino series yet, so I wasn’t familiar with Jen. This can be read regardless of if you’ve read her previous series (but you should definitely read them anyway because they’re great)!
Eli is a terrific alpha male. He’s willing to support Jen and just be here backup when she needs it, but is also willing to protect her if need be. Jen was also another of Brynne’s strongly written heroines; one who does not take crap, is successful and intelligent, and can fight back. I loved seeing their 2 strong personalities together. Their chemistry is great. And it does get steaaaamy!
As always, good suspense throughout the book. Can’t wait for the next in the series!
Wow…just wow! My first book by this author and I’m downloading more as I write this. She has every element I love in a book….awesome characters, realistic story, a little mystery, steamy romance, and a HEA….who could ask for more. I’m officially a fan and can’t wait to start my next book.
How much did I love this book? Let me count the ways:
1. The sexual tension/attraction jumped off the page from the first chapter. Holy Hotness!!
2. I thought I figured out who was the bad guy from the second chapter but Brynne tricked me.
3. Jensen is badass.
4. The Carpino family checks in!! And Paige and Cam!
5. Bree. YUCK.
5. Hattie “I’ll shoot a roman candle right up her backside” Montgomery. I love her.
6. Elijah Pettit is an ass man. Yes, he is and I am here for it. “I’m trying to be a normal guy who’s not an FBI agent, but who still likes your ass.”
7. More Eli hotness: “I know all of this because I’m a man, I have a cock, and the minute I walked into that room, he tried to stake his claim. But I promise you—if there’s a pissing contest, I will win.”
8. TEXAS. I’m a Texan. Loved all the food. It’s all true. The icing on the cake was mentioning a refinery in Corpus Christi. I live in Corpus!! Most of the male members of my family have worked for a refinery at one point in their lives. It’s so rare to find connections to my real life in books.
9. Can I have Jen’s shoes?
10. The ending and epilogue were perfect. Everything I needed.
PS I NEED to know the Trig and Ellie story. Is it too soon?
Brynne Asher has Freaken Rocked my World Again. I have not read a single book of hers that she has not captured my attention from the first page. This Story will keep you on your toes…. It’s Suspence, Heat, Great Characters, awesome Story line and most importantly addictive.
I adored the Montgomery family when I met them in Athica Lane. I thought Asher couldn’t make me love anyone as much as I loved Asa but I should have never thought Eli won’t steal my Heart.
Jen is not only an amazing CEO, she is an amazing Daughter, Sister and friend. She is cow girl and would probably toss anyone trying to take her for a rich brat. She works hard and gives her best to everyone. So when her world starts crumbling I’m so thrilled Eli, her friends and Family are all there for her.
These two are on Fire from the moment they meet. Eli is SO FUCKING AMAZING with her. He protects her and fights in her corner. He also fight for her. He puts her above all else and that to me is what a man should be like.
Their chemistry is absolutely Fantastic. It’s hot and swoony and fluffy with plenty of nail biting scenes.
Enjoy this awesome book ladies!!!
Bad Situation was the kind of read I needed to take my mind of things. It’s classic Brynne Asher, with the fierce take no crap sassy heroine and the strong silent alpha hero. Jen is a successful businesswoman and she worked hard to reach the top not just going on her family name. Eli is a top notch FBi agent known for busting huge white collar crimes. The first meeting had sparks, the second meeting well things went a bit haywire. Assigned to investigate Jen, it makes it all look bad. But Eli can’t dent the pull the woman has on him. So he risks it all even if it’s not a good idea.
There’s a bit of mystery going on about the company works and suspense when it all goes wrong. Eli does his best to keep Jen safe. It sucks when it’s not rignt. It kept things interesting and had more than an ordinary romance. Jen and Eli worked through it together despite the odds against them. They saw each others soft spots and it made them stronger.
Jen’s relationship with her dad reminded me of mine, that was touched me. Her dad’s personality was a close reminder to me. That made that part a bit harder for me to read. I like how Eli made things cut and dry for Jen, to simplify the mess she’s surrounded in. He batted for her and got her back since the start. Despite them being from opposite walks of life they accepted the other beneath all that. They were from different worlds but made it work.
They made best of a bad situation and stuck it through. I had my suspicions on who done it but wasn’t confirmed till the end. The twist was good. Some cameos from the author’s previous books make an appearance too. I felt like I needed to reread Cam’s book after. It had some family drama here from Jen’s sister Ellie and someone from their past. I see a setup for book two in the works. I’m excited for that.
I. LOVED. THIS. STORY!!!
This is my second Brynne Asher read, and I’m falling in love with her writing more and more.
I absolutely adored everything about Bad Situation.
The chemistry was OFF THE CHARTS, the witty banter was HILARIOUS, the drama SUSPENSEFUL. This book just had it all.
You think you’ll have this book figured out—I sure thought I did. Hell, no. I was SHOCKED by the twist. Did not expect that in a million years.
Eli and Jen come from two completely different lives, under the worst circumstances ever, resulting in just a really bad situation. But, out of bad situations, come great stories. And, that is what Eli and Jen are. AN AMAZING STORY!
Book one in the Montgomery series and I can’t wait to get to book two. This author did a fantastic job giving us little bits of candy to lure us into wanting more.
I thought this was a great read! I really enjoyed Eli and Jen. It was full of action and suspense as well as romance. I can’t wait for the 2nd Montgomery book.
Holy crap this book was amazing!!! This book had me desperately turning pages needing to know what happens next, my stomach dropped several times and the twists kept coming. I think the author did a magnificent job at developing the characters and their stories and giving you enough background on them at the perfect moment to keep you satisfied but needing more. The emotions and intensity built into this story really pulls a reader in.
This is only my second book by this author however after two books definitely a one click author for me.
Byrnne Asher rocks. She knows how to tell a story that not only has you invested in its main characters, but you fall in love with their extended families too.
Eli and Jen are incredible together. Both come from very different backgrounds, his poor, hers privileged. He’s FBI, she’s under investigation… but different as they might seem they could not be more perfect for each other. And as much as both of them try to keep their distance from the other, because to be together would just be a “Bad Situation”, it’s impossible to ignore their chemistry and attraction. And as they open up to each other they discover that they just fit like two halves of a complete whole.
If you’ve read any of Brynne’s other books like Carpino series or The Killers you know that she writes very multi layered stories that will keep you on the edge and unable to put the book down. Bad Situation is all that and more. Im not sure where the Montgomery family will lead me next. But I know can’t wait.
Brynne Asher has Freaken Rocked my World Again. I have not read a single book of hers that she has not captured my attention from the first page. This Story will keep you on your toes…. It’s Suspence, Heat, Great Characters, awesome Story line and most importantly addictive.

Brynne Asher has placed herself was one of my top favorite authors. There are many reasons why she was added, but this book has helped cement her. I love her books because she never fails to deliver a book/story that contains humor, love, angst, heartache, hope, and suspense. You never get the same trope romance from her. Her heroines and heroes are always written to match so perfectly, which may seem easy to do, but it isn’t. None of her heroes and heroines are the same, and I love that. Additionally, as soon as the characters are introduced you can feel their chemistry. The first scene I read that contained Eli and Jen, I knew the book was going to be great. She delivered a hero that was possessive, understanding, not super-duper mega-rich, possessive but not over the top. While her heroine was smart, determined, hardworking, stubborn and had a love for shoes that rivaled my own. I highly recommend this book. It honestly had me laughing one minute and fighting back tears the next. Similar to another of my favorite authors, Brynne Asher knows how to create a world that you want to submerge yourself in. She also knows how to surprise the hell out of you. If you think this is a ‘cookie cutter’ book, you should think again. The way she creates her stories, you never know what’s coming. I do not know what is up next, but I am in anticipation of what she will create next.
YAS GURL WHAT. ALL THE FINGER SNAPS. ALL. OF. THEM.
Bad Situation was AH-MAZING. 100 PERCENT. Eli Petit, the half alpha-ahole obsessed with Jensen Montgomery’s butt, was the perfect mix between over protective and workaholic that blended seamlessly with Jen’s workaholic life. He didn’t know he needed a fiesty CFO in his life until a dance that shouldn’t have happened and an arrest that should have been laughed at.
As for Jen, she definitely didn’t think she needed a booty obsessed FBI agent that toes the line, just barely, in her life. Between mergers and acquisitions, philanthropy work, running a company, keeping her crazy family in line, and dealing with an a-hole brother-in-law, she is way too busy. She definitely doesn’t need to add a certain FBI agent, that she shouldn’t be involved with since she’s under investigation, onto her to-do list.
Too bad Eli doesn’t care about rules. He bull dozes his way into Jen’s life and into her heart, and dragged me right along with them. Jen doesn’t lie down and take it though (even though I SO would have okkkkkkk), she’s too smart for that. Though her instincts tell her to give in and call him, her head wins out.
Eli doesn’t listen to what his supervisors say, or what Jen says. He helps her despite the fact he shouldn’t. He falls in love with her even though they shouldn’t have even gotten involved with each other. He doesn’t mind being her dirty secret since it means he can touch her butt (he really is an ass man).
One of the reasons he and Jen work so well together is because they both realize how important their work is. Eli is secure enough that he doesn’t care how much money Jen has, and Jen doesn’t care that Eli is an FBI agent. Their work means they spend a lot of time in the office, but it doesn’t affect their relationship.
Which is all the amazingness.
Before I gush all over myself and just give away the plot, I’m gonna stop myself.
I know this was a crossover-ish book between Paths and Athica Lane, but I honestly didnt’ remember Eli from Paths. Everyone remembers the Montgomerys (cause they’re hella awesome) but I didn’t have time to re-read Paths before Bad Situation.
If you’re waiting for it to be announced, you’ll have to wait until they end of the book. However, if you’re like me, you’ll go OH I REMEMBER NOW when it’s too danged late. If you haven’t read either of those books (SHAME) you won’t have to in order to read Situation (THOUGH YOU SHOULD).
So here I am, reading along like a good little ARC reader, trying to figure out what’s going on when Brynne SHOCKS THE BEJESUS OUT OF ME and then goes and ENDS THE FREAKING BOOK while I’m here shaking like a crack addict going through withdrawl waiting for the next book…
Think Eli will arrest me 😉
ANYWAYS. I’m going to go cry a little bit while I wait for Brynne to feed my totally (un)healthy addiction.
Another PHENOMENAL read from this author!!!
This book had me smiling, gasping, tearing up, and wanting to yell at different parts of it.
I adored the characters. I loved how Jen & Eli balanced each other and they helped each other grow in their own ways throughout the story. I loved the suspense and mystery as well!
I absolutely recommend this amazing book. The writer has this way of capturing you and pulling you in from page 1!
