Learning to live again is killing me. Sarae Carvantes doesn’t remember the car wreck that took the lives of her family, even though she was begging the first responders to help them when she was pulled from the wreckage. But at the funeral, when she sees them crying for help and staggering all twisted from their coffins, and as she sees the Dead rising all around her, she nearly loses her mind – … loses her mind – until an owl flies down from the dark treetops and offers her help. The owl is Zoe, and her work is to help a human with secret powers — that’s Sarae — to sing down the dead.
But what is waiting for her in the midnight cemetery has other plans.
BAD MOON RISING is the prequel to the Owl-Bearer series.

This is a short story about Sarae. Sarae was in a tragic accident and lost her parents and brother. At the funeral she sees the spirits of her beloved family rise from their graves. This is the tale of what happens next. I thought it was a pretty good little short story.

This prequel sets the series up for the reader. Sarae Carvantes, her parents, and her 10-year-old brother were in a car wreck. She was the only survivor. It wasn’t until the funeral that she noticed things were very strange indeed as she hears her family members’ voices asking what was going on. She literally “sees” her family members sitting up and staggering from their coffins as they realize they are dead and her father stares right into her eyes! Her cousin Ava led her away and took her home as she started to freak out, ready to run.
In her dreams, she continued to see the Dead rising all around her, not only her family, but ghostly strangers. Some whispered requests, while others raged, their rotting faces blotching. She woke and stepped out into the yard, crying. It is only the appearance of an owl named Zoe that allows her some hope as it offers to help her.
Zoe’s job as a guardian spirit is to teach the human how to “sing down the dead” who are rising around her, those who have unfinished business which traps them here. Sarae’s purpose is to send the dead back to their own plane of existence and give them peace. It is her destiny that she will have to fulfill. Zoe will protect her from the Dead. But whatever is waiting for her in the cemetery has other plans! Her entire life will be changed – but how?
This short book will keep the reader riveted to the story line trying to figure out what Sarae is and what is trying to stop her! Grab your copy and get prepared for the series that will put shivers down your spine – and now you will know what that means!
