From a helicopter high above the empty California desert, a man is sent free-falling into the night…. In Chicago, a woman learns that an elite team of ex–army investigators is being hunted down one by one…. And on the streets of Portland, Jack Reacher—soldier, cop, hero—is pulled out of his wandering life by a code that few other people could understand. From the first shocking scenes in … Lee Child’s explosive new novel, Jack Reacher is plunged like a knife into the heart of a conspiracy that is killing old friends…and is on its way to something even worse.
A decade postmilitary, Reacher has an ATM card and the clothes on his back—no phone, no ties, and no address. But now a woman from his old unit has done the impossible. From Chicago, Frances Neagley finds Reacher, using a signal only the eight members of their elite team of army investigators would know. She tells him a terrifying story—about the brutal death of a man they both served with. Soon Reacher is reuniting with the survivors of his old team, scrambling to raise the living, bury the dead, and connect the dots in a mystery that is growing darker by the day. The deeper they dig, the more they don’ t know: about two other comrades who have suddenly gone missing—and a trail that leads into the neon of Vegas and the darkness of international terrorism.
For now, Reacher can only react. To every sound. Every suspicion. Every scent and every moment. Then Reacher will trust the people he once trusted with his life—and take this thing all the way to the end. Because in a world of bad luck and trouble, when someone targets Jack Reacher and his team, they’d better be ready for what comes right back at them…

In Bad Luck and Trouble, A member of an investigative unit Reacher served in a decade ago is thrown out of a helicopter. Reacher links up with other surviving members of the elite team largely due to the efforts of Frances Neagley. She appeared in the previous Reacher tale, The Hard Way, and she is a great addition to this book as well. Reacher works with the members of his former team and together they’re able to provide the guilty with their just rewards – Reacher style.
I never tire of Jack Reacher. Unassuming, humble, fiercely loyal, with an uncanny knack for being in the wrong place at the right time. His character is enhanced by his unbelievable skill with numbers and time and by the believability of the contribution of his childhood to his abilities.
I just love everything about Jack Reacher! Lee Child gives us someone we can rely on to always do the right thing, even when the law disagrees. Love this entire series but this book is a particular fav!!
Jack Reacher never disappoints
One of the best characters in any series
My rating for this 11th book is 2.5 stars . The beginning was good. I couldn’t get into this book’s storyline & the action was too far apart.
Love this series and this edition is no exception.
Math and numbers. Another relentless, heart pounding Reacher novel. Bottom line don’t get on Reachers bad side.
I think this is the best of all the Reacher books. Plenty of action with suspense added. We also get to meet some of Reacher’s team from the Army. Good plot. The characters are developed nicely. While I have read all of Lee Child’s book, there are only a few of them that I have reread. This one I have read several times. Highly recommended.
Love all of lee childs books
Mr Lee has never disappointed me with any of his books. Another great adventure
Jack Reacher is my favorite hero that doesn’t want to be one.
The Jack Reacher books are fun to read. There is something satisfying about the bad guys always getting what they deserve, and Lee Child always delivers in that regard. The fact that I come from a military family and married a military pilot makes me like Jack Reacher all the more. Fast, easy read.
