AllieWhen I moved to River’s Edge, dating was the last thing on my mind. I definitely didn’t expect to fall for him. Jesse Shepherd. Popular. Star athlete. Cocky as hell. You know the type. But as time passed, I realized there was more lurking beneath that gorgeous exterior.Secretive. Angry. A little bit broken. The more I peeled back his layers, the deeper I fell. Until I slammed headfirst into … fell.
Until I slammed headfirst into his sea of lies.
Jess
I blew my shot.
Pissed everything away—college, lacrosse, my future—only to end up right back where I started in River’s Edge.
I was content to revel in my misery, spending my days drowning in a bottomless pit of booze and girls.
Until I saw her.
Allison Parrish.
Beautiful. Sarcastic. Perpetual bad attitude.
The pretty little distraction from the shit show that was my life.
But the sins of my past were closing in on me, and I learned the hard way that nothing gold can stay.

Bad Influence is reminiscent of innumerous romances that readers have read before—manwhore hero; innocent heroine; an enemies to lovers connection, etc. Because of this, this romance felt cliche and foreseeable leaving me saddened and neither loving nor hating Allie and Jesse. Whatever connection they formed felt lacklustre and watered-down, an unfortunate conclusion as this author’s written some steam-filled enemies to lovers romances before.
“Love is real. Powerful. It has the potential to destroy you. To start wars and end lives. Love is a weapon. Love is dangerous, and I want nothing to do with it.”
I found it difficult to connect with Allison Parrish—she’s immature, described as flawed and tortured (we didn’t receive enough glimpses into this) and for someone ‘strong-willed’, Allie didn’t hesitate to run away from her issues and refused to acknowledge them. Jesse Shepherd’s characterisation is meant to be shattered, a little tortured and an irresistible mess that readers can’t stay away from. I needed more chapters and further exploration into Jesse’s character to be enamoured with him, or to feel any kind of emotion for his struggles.
Further to finding it difficult to connect with either main character, Bad Influence started and ended in an abrupt fashion, it was kind of jarring and disorienting. I needed more established details to better understand and appreciate Allie and Jesse’s connection rather than be thrown into a situation of sudden, unexplained history. Other aspects that annoyed me: Jesse’s secret, even when it came so late; Allie’s friend’s random possessiveness that added zero substance besides convenient jealousy and the other man who didn’t contribute to the overall narrative.
“She pushes, I push back, neither one of us wanting to be the first to bend—the first to show something real.”
Overall, Bad Influence was alright. I love this author’s writing and the way she constructs her enemies to lovers romances—they’re always delicious angst-ridden messes! But this didn’t have that same shine the others in this series owned. It followed an overused combination of concepts that didn’t make this feel different, or even exciting, as it was never given unique qualities to go beyond what it is.
now let’s talk about bad love series aka my new obsession, I started this series 2 days ago and im almost done with it (I have to read book 1), this series it’s so good I read every book in less than eight hours cause I couldn’t put it down, so yes i was crying with every book at 3 am and without anyone to freak out u2063u2063
this is the first time that im reading this author and im planning to read all her books cause her characters are u2063u2063u2063
now talking about this book I just can say that im in love, reading bad intentions Jesse was one of my favorite characters so reading everything from his point of view was exciting, getting to know how he feels about everything and how is his relationship with his family was fantastic and Allie is the sweetest/badass girl in the world I just want to protect her, these two together are so incredible, how they meet each and their banter in the whole book is so funny + how vulnerable they act with each other makes this books a 5 stars for me u2063u2063
ps: YK THAT SCENE WITH THE LOLLIPOP HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I absolutely loved Charleigh Rose’s Bad Intentions in the Bad Love series so I was excited to read on for Jess’ story in Bad Influence. Jess had a hard life and deserved to find love in his life.
While I love Rose’s writing, dialogue and story flow, this story pushed all of my buttons (not in a good way) when it comes to New Adult romance. I know that Jess is only 19 or 20 but man does he play mind games with Allie. I’m all for a flirtatious or even steamy back and forth between characters but I’m not into a back and forth that feels almost hurtful or a weird power struggle. They had their own brand of banter that seemed to be their form of foreplay but it just rubbed me the wrong way to the point I wanted to ask Allie what the heck she was doing sticking around him!
We finally get a bit more maturity at the end when they face their feelings and own their decisions but it was a bit rough for me to get there. Sign me up for Halston and Sully’s story though because their back and forth I LOVED!
I’ll also give props to Jess’ birthday present to Allie – perfect!
Overall, I am glad that I read it and would recommend it to finish off the series. You just have to go into it knowing that these are teens acting like teens.
Love is real. Powerful. It has the potential to destroy you. To start wars and end lives. Love is a weapon. Love is dangerous, and I want nothing to do with it.
Bad Influence just sucked me in big time. I couldn’t read fast enough. Charleigh Rose just broke my heart and then put it back together again.
Jesse is self destructive. Cocky, full of swag and funny as hell. The guy had me swooning so hard.
He pushes everyone he gets close to away even though he doesn’t really mean to. He doesn’t know how to love due to a shitty home life so when he feels the need to push everyone away to protect them, he broke my damn heart. The more the story goes on the more you see him struggle with doing what’s right and breaking the cycle of his past.
Allie, god I loved her. She was equally as broken as Jesse but that girl was a fighter. She stood on her own two feet when shit got tough and came out swinging. She helped Jesse to grow and realise what sort of person he really is.
The back and forth and sexual tension between the two was off the charts and the sex scenes…PURE FIRE
This story had everything. Laugh out loud moments, angsty moments, moments where I wanted to yell, cry and hug them both.
Bad Influence is a story about love and loss. Two broken people helping each other heal. Two people navigating their way through a sometimes messed up world just doing the best they can. Two people showing each other how to mend, how to love and that it’s ok to be yourself.
I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars! Jesse and Allie have stolen my heart. This is definitely my favorite book of this series. The characters were perfect. I loved seeing more of the characters from previous books. The plot was fast paced and hooked me from the first page. This is one of my new favorite books!
Totally addictive, I could not put this book down!!
From the very beginning of this book, I was hooked.
Allie’s introduction to the story really pulls on the heart, the very beginning is the night Allie lost her dad, then goes onto her moving to college, to a new town.
Allie is a loner, she’s an old soul in a young body, her dad who was a musician was like her best friend and my heart completely felt for her, I immediately liked Allie and only wanted good things for her as the story progressed.
Then we meet Jess, first impressions, a playboy, man-whore, but I was also intrigued by this hot guy girls fawned over, the guy with a cocky attitude, the star Lacrosse player with a sadness in his eyes.
This is a story of young love, falling for the wrong guy who turns out to be just right.
I haven’t read the other books in this series but I am definitely going to now. Bad influence doesn’t give away anything that may have happened in any book previously it was all Allie and Jess and I was completely immersed in this story, the secrets Jess tried to keep to himself, the twists and turns, the attraction that Allie and Jess had, the push and pull.
Bad Influence is a great young adult read, hot in all the right places with an addictive plot and leads to a hea.

~~4.5 JESSE ADORING STARS! ~~
“You went from being my distraction to my downfall…”
BAD INFLUENCE, book three in Charleigh Rose’s wildly popular Bad Love series, delivered on the feels, the swoon and the MOLTEN HOT sexy times!
I have been aching for Jesse’s story ever since I fell in love with Lo’s rebellious little brother with the heart of gold in BAD INTENTIONS, and Ms Rose sure struck gold with this book!
PREMISE:
Jesse Shepherd still has a good, noble heart but he’s all grown up now and this version is way hotter! He is adorably cocky with a sinfully sexy smile and irresistible swagger that makes you melt but beneath the wicked smirk and macho bluster is a broody, tortured soul and he bears the brunt of some hefty burdens on his broad shoulders. After losing his lacrosse scholarship and dropping out of school he is riddled with shame and knows he’s one big disappointment to his big sis who sacrificed everything to give him a good future.
But even though he is on the verge of ruining every good thing in his life with his self-sabotaging behavior, there’s more going on then meets the eye. And when all seems lost, he meets a beautiful gray-eyed angel named Allison Parrish who proves to be GAME CHANGER! But the spunky, Dum-Dums addicted college coed is harboring a secret torment of her own. Can these two lost, bereft souls find love and healing in each other’s arms, or will a wrecking ball they never saw coming destroy them both in the end?
MY MUSINGS:
Wow! Charleigh Rose poured her heart and soul into this book and it really resonated! BAD INFLUENCE is a slow burning romance and it took a bit for Jesse and his “Allie Girl” to catch fire but once they do the heat level is OFF THE CHARTS! I found both the H&h to be incredibly sympathetic and endearing and I rooted for them from page one! There is wonderful push pull and combustible sparks between these two and the feels they generated tugged mightily at my heartstrings. Plus there’s a doozy of a plot reveal that gave me GOOSEBUMPS, made my chest ache and truly shone a light on Jess’s true character. This jaw dropping twist not only filled in all the missing puzzle pieces, but made me fall even harder for him!
There is a great balance of angst, steam, passion, tender hearted emotion and juicy drama throughout, with a vibrant crew of secondary characters that infused the story with warmth, wit and charm while planting the seeds for future books. (It was oodles of fun catching up with some fan faves and I am particularly intrigued by Dylan’s story…this moody broody rocker is my kind of BBF!) Plus the OUTSIDER references were beyond rad!!!!
And, ultimately, while the road to HEA for Jesse and Allie was bumpy indeed the ending made me cry happy tears and swoon like crazy!
BOTTOM LINE:
BAD INFLUENCE captivated my heart and proved once again why the resplendent Charleigh Rose is an auto-click author for me. Can’t wait for more from her!!
I didn’t think anyone could beat Asher as my favorite troubled Charleigh Rose hero but man…Jesse just may edge him out! I am in love with Charleigh’s River’s Edge world. We have been itching to get more of Jesse since first meeting him in Bad Intentions and he stormed into the spotlight in all his broken bad boy glory! Jesse has only ever known true love from his sister Lo, and his messed up mom has convinced him that he isn’t worth it. He insists that he isn’t worth it to Allie, though he can’t seem to stay away. Allie has her own heartbreaking issues and doesn’t want to believe in love for fear of more loss. They crash into each other in a glorious way and their banter is funny while their deeper connection is raw and steamy. The angst and back and forth in this one is just right, making the story feel real. Loved it. 5 dum dum stars for Bad Influence!
OMG this was another one of Charleigh’s angsty but awesome books..I loved Jess he broke my heart.. We unfortunately get to read about Crystal yet again, a poor excuse for a mother, but she wasn’t she was an incubator because has no redeeming traits. Then there is Allie who is suffering from the loss of her father and she is so heartbroken because he was everything to her. She fights her attraction to Jess but eventually these two give in and when Jess messes up she makes him realize he deserves to fight for his life. Loved reading of previous characters, the only thing I kind of wished for was more of Briar and Ash, we just got a tiny bit.
Loved Jess & Allie! I was really worried that Jess would come off as a brat in this book but I should have known better. After reading the first two books in the Bad Love series, I shouldn’t have doubted that Charleigh Rose would write him & his story the right way.
I loved seeing the progression of Jesse. Allie was a great match for him!
Charleigh Rose has quickly become an auto 1-click author for me!
Bad Influence is book three and finally Jesse’s story! I have loved him and been dying to read more about him since Bad Intentions! This did not disappoint! I loved it. Jess was cocky, sexy and swoony. Allison was sweet and sassy. I loved Jess and Allie Girl. The connection, chemistry and sexiness were off the charts. They were perfect together! Definitely a must read!
I felt both Allie & Jesse were younger than college years. Both characters didn’t come across as very mature for there age. I struggled to finish the book truthfully , but finished as I was curious to why jesse disappeared & if the characters would have closure from there past.
Charleigh Rose is back with Bad Influence and it’s book 3 in the Bad Love series. This is Jesse Shepherd’s story. We met Jesse in Bad Intensions as Lo’s younger brother. Now he’s all grown up and in college as this red-hot star Lacrosse player. The readers see that he is also dates ALOT of women, is a bad boy but has sadness in his eyes. You immediately know that Allie is going to be Jesse from their first meeting based on the sparks that flew. They both are people that are broken souls who have secrets that they hide. Yet from the moment they came into each other’s lives, there is this push/pull. Allie is dealing with some terrible grief yet Jesse is able to help her during a time she feels like she’s spinning out of control.
This is Jesse and Allie’s story- Ms. Rose beautifully crafted a love story of two broken souls who met, how they met, ended up together, their push/pull due to the fact they fought their love to which Jesse went after Allie and showed her he would fight for their love and the culmination of their getting together…what an emotional rollercoaster romance ride. It is an exhilarating read, a tear-jearker at times and just fantastic! Ms. Rose writes emotions that make you feel as if you are right there experiencing the moment. The secondary characters /plot adds to the storytelling.
My Rating: 4.5 stars ********
Bad Influence is the third book in this series but can be read as stand alone. It’s a contemporary NA romance and my first ever read from this new to me author. It is safe to say that I will surely read the other books from this author because she got me hooked! And also, can we talk about the book cover? It was downright stunning and drool worthy. The model perfectly oozed Jesse’s character. You’ll know what I’m saying once you read this book!
Allison moved to River’s Edge to start college. She was still hurting and trying her best to move past the pain, after a tragic lost of a loved one. Allie is a strong, smart and cool as heck girl with her love of old rock music. I liked her instantly.
Jesse was just visiting his sister, Lo before he goes back to his school and start lacrosse practice. His scholarsip doesn’t pay enough, so he tried to find ways to support him. Jesse may act like a complete jerk and manwhore, but his heart is in the right place. He’s got a depth of character that made me fall for him.
I’ve loved the story of Jesse and Allie. They are lost souls, both broken, finding a meaning to their life and trying their best to heal. I admit, I thought this will be your usual sports romance, but I was wrong. Jesse has layers to his personality that I yearn to unravel and mystery that I want to solve. I wanted to get inside this book and give him all my love when I found out about his back story. I am such a sucker for broken guys, so sue me. They are a perfect fit because they are alike in some ways. Unknowingly, they have helped each other heal even in the pretense of it all being in the name of “fun”.
I hope there will be more from this series because I’m intrigued with Halston and Sully’s story and also Dylan and that mystery girl. Overall, this has become one of my favorites and will surely be on the lookout for this author’s works.
Bad Influence is Jess and Allie’s story, and it’s the perfect title for their book because these two are impacted by a large amount of outside pressures that play into how they choose to act and live as well as how they view themselves and respond to the demons that always seem to be chasing them.
Before I go further with my review, I have to be honest…I always struggle with manwhore heroes; I’m not sure if it’s because there are too many romances out there with these cookie cutter playboys as the leading male or if the depth of their character is too often one-dimensional, making me feel like there’s nothing to them but their next escapade. So when I first started learning about Jess and how he chose to live his life, I thought for sure that I wouldn’t like him…that even if he had redeeming qualities that my initial reaction to his behavior wouldn’t change, but I’m happy to say that Charleigh Rose proved me wrong and the more I got to know Jess and was allowed inside his head, the easier it was to understand the reasons behind his antics and why his self-destructive choices occurred. Jess’ external demeanor is his armor, his way to not feel too much or go too far inside himself, but when Allie comes into his life and demands that he shed his player facade, that’s when readers get to see the man Jess truly is and just how much they make each other better in so many ways.
Allie is definitely my kind of heroine. Like Jess, she wears a shield and it’s there to protect her from her past, from everything that could bring her down, shattering the already broken pieces of her heart. It’s her strength and bravery that Jess is attracted to and as their bond begins to grow, it’s clear just how much good they can bring to each other’s lives, and while there are still landmines that could bring them down, the fact that these two accept one another and see beneath their respective facades gives them more than a fighting chance to make it.
This couple is absolutely electric together, and their need and desire for one another resonates from the pages of their story. But their connection is not only physical, even though, at times, they might wish it was due to the baggage that they’re both struggling to carry and get over. Anytime emotions factor into a relationship, the stakes are raised and the potential for heartbreak intensifies, and these two definitely don’t need anything else to make them question who they are and what they want. But the bad influences can be countered as long as Jess and Allie hold on to the people they are when they’re together.
4.5 Poison Apples
Finally! Jesse!
I recently reread book one because i hadn’t read book two and I’m so glad i did, i would of missed out on this beauty if didnt.
I was abit apprehensive when i first saw it was Jesse’s book since he was young-ish in Lo’s book but that flew straight out the window after a few chapters.
Jesse was bloody amazing. He was so much more than i thought. Jesse, Dare and Asher are some swoon worth males. All have there problems but damn if that doesn’t make me love them even more.
I really loved this book and you need to hop onto this series if you haven’t already starting with Asher in Bad Habit and if you’ve read that and Dare in Bad Intentions then you need to dive into Jesse.
Just don’t be getting too handsy
Bad Influence by Charleigh Rose reminded me why I am addicted to her writing. Other than being steamy and sexy as hell, the story twisted my inside with sharp edges of angsty and heartbreaking emotions. I fall in love and lust with the characters. I got hooked to the stories their anger, resentment, guilt, regrets and desires narrate. And the experience was mind-bending amazingness.
Jesse is the prototype new adult romance hero yet he is different. He has seen and suffered a lot. He hides his wounds behind an arrogant, cold and devil-may-care attitude. But Allie, the weird girl with portable CD Player, headphones and a sucker(literally) fetish is invading his wall. The girl who vowed never to get attached to save herself from heartache is falling for the bad boy. They can either destroy each other or save each other. Which way will it be?
Being back to the familiar town was really nostalgic. I got reunited with Lo (Jesse’s sister) and Dare, one of my favorite couple by Charleigh. She has this unique way of story telling where she keeps everything pretty simple yet everything gets too much complicated for my poor heart! Allie is just amazing and I respect how she handles her loss and be brave. Jesse evoked the fabulous “hate to love and love to hate” feelings in me. The very reason I read this genre. This guy took my breath away with his intensity, broken soul and raw passionte way of loving. The sassy, sexually charged and almost hostile interactions are nothing less than potent verbal foreplay. And it’s gloriously beautiful when they give in to their feelings. A lot of hurt, pain and misunderstanding will be there. You may hate the author a bit for making you suffer but it was the best kind of torture. The story is about loving self enough to be better for the person one loves. It’s about courage and resurrection and finding peace at the end of a stormy life.
Bad Influence by Charleigh Rose was great for my soul that is craving for more Jesse awesomeness, more Allie sweetness and simply more of everything. An explosive and spellbinding story of all consuming love that has left me in an insatiable yet satisfied state.
Received ARC for Honest Review
Bad Influence by Charleigh Rose is a slow burn, new adult romance of epic proportions. The Bad Habits universe comes back again with another badass couple, ready to kill us with their angst, sexual chemistry, and ridiculous banter.
The push and pull between the characters was like seriously drawn out foreplay. Jessie and Allie wanted each other so much but refused to fall for their baser instincts. There was a forbidden aspect to their relationship as well, something that added an extra layer of wanting. Two completely different people, an unlikely coupling that somehow made sense it all the best ways. It took me a while to get into the story but once I did, it’s like everything clicked into place. Jesse was such a beautiful character, beautifully scarred. The outsider trying desperately to find his place in the world, and the sad girl just trying to make it through life with her portable CD player.
And like, dude, I will never ever see a lollipop in the same way again. I mean, I knew it was going to be significant considering it’s on the cover, but bro, that was pretty freaking significant yo, and amazing.
SO many emotions coursed through me and I’m so grateful for this experience. I highly recommend it!
“Whatever you say, Allie Girl.”
“So, we’re on the same page?”
“We’re not even reading the same book.”
All the swoons!!!! Lo’s little brother, Jesse, who I loved meeting in Bad Intentions, is ALL grown up and yummy!!! He oozed with cocky perfection, and I could just see his lopsided grin in my head that even made my knees weak. The chase pulled me right in, and the fall even harder. Perfect measure of sweet, heat, and swoon!! Loved coming back to River’s Edge and I passed out with my Kindle on my face last night, only to wake up to finish early this morning, it was that good!! I will never look at a Dum-Dum quite the same again!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!
“…you make me want to be someone who deserves someone like you.”

Bad Influence by Charleigh Rose is the third standalone in the Bad Love series. I have had the pleasure of reading all three of these amazing books and although I have loved all of them, I wasn’t even halfway through Bad Influence when I realized this one was my favorite! I have been waiting (not so patiently) for Jesse’s book ever since he appeared in book #2,Bad Intentions (Bad Love Book 2). Charleigh did not let me down with this one! Although you do not have to read the first two books in the series to follow the story, I would still recommend reading them first because it makes the story that much better having the back story of some of the other characters that appear in Bad Influence.
“My Dad always said that both the best and worst things in life are unexpected. They’re the moments that change your life indefinitely, and even if you see them coming, you’re never prepared for the impact. It’s what you do in the aftermath that matters. It’s how you deal with the crisis—or good fortune—that defines you.”
Usually, I give a bit of an extended synopsis now but with this one, you need to go in BLIND! So I’ll just tell you why I gave Bad Influence 5-stars and would have given it a LOT more if I could!
The angst in this story is REAL! The first scene is enough to break your heart completely! When Allie is on the phone with her Dad (who she has a super close relationship with) while he is wishing her a Happy Birthday he gets in a horrible car accident and dies. Yea, talk about an opener!
Allie had made plans to move to River’s Edge with her Dad and go to school at Kerrigan University. Eight months after the accident, while still grieving her father she decides to follow her plans anyway. But things don’t work out the way they were supposed to almost as soon as she gets to River’s Edge. The one upside is she gets a job at Blackbear, the local bar/restaurant in town that’s also owned by Lo, Jesse Shepards older sister.
Although he appears to be the typical playboy jock with the cocky attitude and a smirk that would make even the strongest woman weak in the knees, Jesse Shepard is far from typical. Underneath that cocky attitude is a broken boy who’s been through more than anyone his age should. Jesse and Lo both grew up way to fast and learned to survive while leaning on each other. But now that Lo has finally settled down and is living her life he doesn’t want to burden her with problems. Even though he definitely makes some bad choices, Jess is loyal to a fault.
Allison A.K.A Allie, I love that girl! She is kind of the grunge girl who would rather stay in listening to music on her old as shit CD player rather than go out partying. You can’t help but feel for her as she continues to grieve over the loss of her best friend, her Dad.
“Love is real. Powerful. It has the potential to destroy you. To start wars and end lives. Love is a weapon. Love is dangerous, and I want nothing to do with it.”
From the very first interaction between these two, where Jesse pretends to be dating Alle to get rid of one of his “fans” I knew this book was going to ruin me in the best way possible, and it most definitely did. While it is a full-length novel, I finished in record time because I just literally could not put it down until I found out what those secrets were that Jesse was hiding.
I absolutely loved the back and forth banter between the two of them, and OMG that mouth of Jesse’s, whether he’s talking shit or talking dirty it’s HOT! The two of them are polar opposites but in the same sense, they are so similar. Allie is the only one who can see the REAL Jesse behind the pretty boy image.
Now, even though I said it would be better to read the other books first, you don’t have to at all. Honestly, you could start with either of these books, they don’t really “spoil” anything from the ones previously released.
The angst, the secrets, the “almost” sex scenes, the actual sex scenes, the love *sigh* seriously you guys this book was EVERYTHING I look for in a young adult romance! Most definitely on my TOP reads of 2019 list!
I am absolutely hooked on the people of River’s Edge and I can NOT wait to see what comes next, Sully and Halston maybe? I’m hoping!
If you like young adult reads then I HIGHLY recommend checking out Bad Influence as well as the other books in the Bad Love series, Bad Habit, and Bad Intentions (Bad Love Book 2). You won’t regret it!
Oh yea, by the way, I will NEVER look at a lollipop and not think of this book! Gahh READ THIS BOOK! #Jessie’sGirl
“You’re a bad influence.” I smirk, taking another step, effectively closing the distance between us.”I’ve been called worse.”
I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.
