Gabriel ‘Fox’ Morrison is starting a brand new chapter in his life. He spent years drifting after his time in the military and finally felt ready to settle in one spot. This leads him to becoming the head detective of the recently opened Stonewall Investigations in Miami. His first case is one that not only hits close to home, but the result could have huge repercussions for more than just him … and his client.
It’s a case so big, he decides to enlist some help.
Jonah Brightly is ending a huge chapter of his life. Him and his girlfriend have zero spark and his professional career is in shambles after an on-work incident leaves him with more than a physical scar. A new job as a private detective would be a lifeline he so badly needed.
He goes in for his interview and meets Fox, the man who changes everything for him.
Both of them are rocked by an unexplainable force, and both are left questioning everything they’ve known in its wake. As they form a bond through working together on the case, they learn there’s much more that brings them together than holds them apart. But can they keep fanning the flames of their newfound passion or will they be consumed by the growing fire?

To say I had my doubts as to whether Max Walker could continue this amazing storyline with Stonewall Security, Miami, is a little bit of an understatement. One in which I’m incredibly happy to report blew me away. The connection between Gabriel (Fox) and Jonah is like amazing and off the charts. Their chemistry is instantaneous and steamy. Fox and Jonah team up to track down the drug, Dragon, that is being sold at Club Trinity. Clues lead them in the direction they least expected. The primary focus in this book seems to be more on Fox and Jonah’s relationship than the investigation side of it, which suited me just fine. I totally enjoyed getting to know Fox and Jonah. Zane and Enzo also make an appearance in this book, which was totally awesome! Let’s not forget Andrew as well. I love his character so much! I totally loved this story and cannot wait for the next book. More please!
This book was everything! I’m so glad to get more Stonewall and now in Miami.
Fox was fantastic, patient, kind, alpha and perfect for Johan. It takes a bit but Johan finally admits to his true self, the one he’s locked away for so long and it was such an amazing thing to experience.
Author Max Walker has an amazing writing style, he pulls you into the lives of the characters and the suspense keeps you guessing until the end!!
Bad Idea
By Max Walker
Main Characters: Jonah and Fox
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
5 out of 5 stars
This book is a spin-off in the Stonewall Investigation series and is set in the newly formed Miami, Florida office. Fox and Jonah team up to find the source of a drug that is killing gay men at one certain club. Fox is openly gay and a former soldier and Jonah is straight, or so he thinks. Love the way Max brought the two men together and then the chemistry they had was swoon-worthy. Great job Max!
Sizzling connections with heartfelt emotion and lots intrigue and action. This book hit all the marks for me! It is a terrific spin off including some cameo’s with some of the previous characters but in a new location with a whole new dynamic. I really loved the awesome characters that we were introduced to. Many of the new detectives have lots of character to explore.
Fox and Jonah are really something together, i could feel their connection and their desires. The author really created a compelling story-line with a surprising bad guy and lots of twists and turns along the way. The complexity of the story was satisfying and the development of the other detectives set me up for wanting more of this series. I cannot wait for where these stories take us next.
Highly recommended!!
What a great start to a new spin-off series from the Stonewall Investigations series! This story features Fox and Jonah and takes place in Miami. Their chemistry is off the charts hot!
I was completely captivated with this story right from page 1. There’s romance, humor, action and sexy times. They mystery kept me guessing and reading until the end. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series! So much fun to read!!
Fox and Jonah are the first couple we meet in the new Miami branch of Stonewall Investigations and it’s the longest book I’ve read from this author. It was well written, with good characters and good story line . As a spin off series it works wonderfully.
I related SO much to Jonah and his sexuality and trying to figure it out. Different for me (bisexual) but I totally understood the hiding that part of yourself even to yourself. I’m not much for suspense romance, but this was fun. And YES m/m written by own voices! I’m a fan.
This author was recommended on BookTok and when I saw he had a private security/detective series I knew that I needed to read the series! I actually listened to the audio version of this book on Hoopla, but it is available on KU as well.
When we meet Jonah he is in a relationship with a woman, and she is a terrible human. Off the bat it was evident that Jonah had some struggles in his life and was needing a change to bring his life back into focus. I immediately fell in love with Jonah and couldn’t wait for him to get his HEA. He genuinely has a good heart and is passionate about doing the right thing.
And Gabriel or Fox as he is referred to, well this former military man is a diamond in the rough. He is an out gay man. He hasn’t really had time to find love, and recently found his place at Stonewall Security in Miami. This security firm is LGTBQ friendly and they work with the underserved population to help solve crimes when law enforcement is unable to. Jonah, recently unemployed, and is looking to join the Stonewall team.
From the start these two have some palpable chemistry that Jonah especially is trying to wrap his head around. One of my favorite things that Max does is set the scene for readers in vivid detail, it really felt like I was sitting at the outdoor restaurant with Jonah and Fox as they get to know each other. And at one point, I reminded myself that it was still the first day they met each other. The pair gelled both personally and professionally. I really found myself not only engaged with Jonah and Foxes budding romance, but also their work and how they go about finding an elusive drug dealer.
If you are a new MM romance reader and like a little mystery, then this is the book and series for you! I cannot wait to read more of Max’s books
New to me author. Liked this read and the sex was hot AF. I will definitely read another from this author.
