He has a past. Could she be his future? My son is my life. Nothing on earth matters but him.Soon, I’ll have to send him out into society. The cruel machine that gnashes innocence and spits out the hollowed remains of a child’s imagination. It’s a place I know all too well, considering my past. I’ve worked hard to separate myself from it, but it looms in the back of my mind—waiting for the perfect … mind—waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
My son, Logan, wants to have birthday parties, make friends, play at the park—all the normal things that seven-year olds want to do. All the things I want to do with him.
I’ve put up walls around our life to shield us from danger. Giant barriers to ward off possible threats.
Cora Chapman crashes through them like a wrecking ball. She’s intelligent and hilarious with soft curves and a spark that ignites a flame deep inside of me.
There’s only one problem—she’s Logan’s teacher.
When my past wraps its tentacles around my throat and threatens to strangle the breath from my lungs, I’m given an option—fight for my family’s freedom, or die as they’re stripped away from me.
I can’t lose. I won’t lose.
My name is Landon Lane and I am a warrior.
Bad Dad ends at 97% and is a 116k word (approx 400 pg) standalone romance. Contains a bonus chapter of a future Sloane Howell release.

I just finished this amazing book and it was no where near what I expected. Nothing could prepare me for it. Not the blurb, nor the cover or the title. And let me tell you something….Landon?? OMG Landon was everything. He was sweet and sexy and scary and perfect. Just perfect.
This book made me feel everything. I laughed out loud, I cried, I got angry and fell in love. I yelled and shouted and I got anxious and upset. Until I reach the last page I was a reck and wanted to start it all over again. The rollercoaster my poor heart went through was out of this world.
I can’t say anything about the plot- and even if I could I wouldn’t- cause I don’t want to spoil it. There are some twists in there that I didn’t see coming and they through me off. I was glued to my Kindle trying to convince myself not to throw it at the wall.
Do yourself a favour and one click it. Sloane’s writing is amazing and he will make you love these characters. If you want to read a book that is unpredictable, with perfect characters with an amazing plot and will make have the Feels then Bad Dad is it.
I totally recommend this book and I really really really hope the author has plans for a Joe book.
Love and Power
Since I first discovered that the writing of women’s contemporary romance in the hands of an authentic male author, through reading Sloane Howell’s books, I have been enamored of this writer and his perspective. There is a different turn of phrase in the erotica that makes the read decidedly different…decidedly male. This is enough to keep me reading anything new he writes.
“Bad Dad” is indeed part romance, but there were so many other elements present in the story line that make it more of a romantic suspense than an erotic romance which is how I came to know this author. In this story, Mr. Howell lets his more macho male side out to play, along with his penchant for writing “science fiction”. I’m not saying I am disappointed, because I am not. It’s just I was not expecting the twists and turns this imaginative story took. There is just enough (I always will want more.) romance and hot erotic love-making with a slight suggestion of kink to satisfy the lover of romance.
The male hero, Landon Lane, as viewed through the eyes of heroine, Cora Chapman, is an intriguing mix of powerful and I mean super humanly powerful, enigmatic man who adores and protects his son. As the story unfolds the reader learns the whys and wherefores of how he and his son came to live in a small town in Montana.
Cora is a young teacher who is searching for her place in the world and the love, as well as, the acceptance she never felt from her parents. Interestingly enough, her cold and detached parents managed to raise a warm-hearted and giving woman. She is utterly fascinated and enthralled with the man who listens intently and gives her careful and considered answers. He is exciting, interesting and not to mention a mountain of a man.
It is enchanting to watch these two fall in love with each other…So many surprises in the telling of their romance…those swoon worthy touches. The erotica is beautifully descriptively written. The story is told in dual points of view. The erotic description comes mostly from Landon’s point of view which makes it exponentially hotter!!!
The story line goes beyond the romance into passages that describe how Landon first came to experience love through the birth of his son. It is here that I felt the author giving a piece of his own heart to the story. The MMA fight training and fight sequences are used also a like a parable that speaks to the essential human quality and value of “loving”… the surrender of your personal power…of your self.
When it comes right down to what I personally feel this book was about…well, I believe that the author is suggesting that the impossible becomes possible with the one attribute that defines us beyond our physical prowess or even our intelligence and that is pure “love”. The fact that this sentiment is buried under the machismo of the MMA and the super-intelligence involved in science, engineering and the creation of technology is fascinating. There is nothing in this universe that equals or compares to the strength and power of “love”.
Wow!! I literally have no words for Bad Dad. I went into this totally blind, knowing that I have enjoyed all of Sloane Howell’s past work, how different could this book be?
Landon is a former military/MMA hero who is also a single dad and Cora, the teacher of his young son, meet and are immediately connected. Their relationship is anything but normal, filled with a mysterious past and a very uncertain future.
The storyline was absolutely amazing and kept me on the edge of my seat. I read this book in an afternoon as I just could not put it down. Tons of action, tough love, tears and undeniable chemistry made this book my favorite of 2017. In my opinion, this is Sloane Howell’s best work to date.

Bad Dad is the story of Landon, his son Logan Lane and Cora (Courage) Chapman. Cora is Logan’s teacher and the first meeting of Landon and Cora was fantastic! The backstory of Landon was phenomenal and when we find out the story of how Logan came to be made me cry! I loved the warrior edge to Landon but you also see his vulnerability and naivete which make me want to hug him or climb him like a spider monkey! I absolutely melted at how he showed his love to Cora. And oh my Cora, wanting to be so brave and showing her heart for both Landon and Logan. I am amazed at how Sloane can easily navigate between alternating POV’s for both Landon and Cora making it both real and engaging. The secondary characters are fabulous and I am crossing my fingers that Joe will get his own book! Please, please, pretty please!
Read this book, you will fall in love with these characters just like I did!
This is read is not what I expected and that’s what made it so GREAT!!
Fast paced, action packed and full of what the what’s, this unique romance contained a little bit of everything, intensity, steam, humor and angst. Mixed with well developed, complex characters, a smart and sexy plot, and the result was truly an enjoyable read.
Landon is most certainly not your typical alpha and that’s what had swooning for him. Cora was in a class of her own, but they worked.
4.5 stars.
