“I laughed, I cried, I couldn’t put it down.” -Lisa, ARC readerFrom best-selling author Melanie A. Smith comes the second book in a new series of steamy contemporary medical romance standalone novels about life lessons that break all the rules. Even when you know better, sometimes it’s simply too tempting… tempting…
Hospital work isn’t for the faint of heart. Becca Dillon knows that firsthand, having worked as a medical assistant in the cardiac unit at Rutherford Hospital for longer than she cares to think about. What she does care to think about is having fun, gossip, and … guys. Her favorite of the three. And why stick to one, when you can sample them all?
That’s exactly her plan when a workplace crush on a mysterious bad-boy orderly unexpectedly takes a very steamy turn. But Vincent DeMarco turns out to be nothing like she expected, and before she knows it, she’s falling hard and fast. She wants him in ways she’s never wanted anyone before, but there’s something he’s keeping from her. Something that’s holding him back. And Becca is going to find out what.
Even though she knows that bad boys don’t make good boyfriends, he seems like he might be so much more. Will her quest unlock the truth behind who he really is? Or will it end their relationship for good? Either way, ready or not, Becca’s world is about to change.

A great contemporary romance!! Becca is in a dry spell but things start looking up when a hot orderly starts with my at the hospital. The problem is that he is a total bad guy so she figured things will never work between them. Add in the fact that he keeps going not and cold to make her really confused. Thanks to their friends they keep getting thrown together until the secrets start coming out showing the True stumbling block that keeps them apart. Makes for a great steamy romance as they try to work things out leading to our HEA. Is a stand alone. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
Bad Boys Don’t Make Good Boyfriends is (audio)book two of the Life Lessons series by Melanie A. Smith. It really told some important things about life and love, and I loved that.
Becca doesn’t have a filter what makes her feisty and funny.
Vincent is the broody type, but he has a heart of gold. It took them some time to get there, but they were so perfect once together. This couple has great chemistry, and once they discover their love for each other, they are really in.
I enjoyed the hospital setting and the background stories. It also made me curious about the other books in the series, and I will definitely look into them.
The story was told from Becca’s POV, Rachel Woods performed her and the other female voices. When Vincent or another male character says something, we hear Jake Bordeaux’s voice. I love this way of narration, especially conversations feel more realistic. Both narrators have pleasant voices that brought the story to life.
Bad Boys Don’t Make Good Boyfriends is a great story that drew me in, pulled my heartstrings, and kept me on my toes with some twists I didn’t see coming. This, together with the excellent narration, makes this a fantastic story.
This is the series which I was unaware of until I started reading, they keep mentioning Lacey and as you continue to read you ca n tell she is not a nice person. I was ok with Vincent he just as to get cojones like Becca said. He give a comment then act like they don’t know each. The hospital staff is like a high school with the way they acted and apparently a bunch of back stabbers. Becka would give in immediately, and I get that due to previous relationship they didn’t end well and her parents example was not great and then her brothers then how her brothers talked horrendously. So do I care about them, I don’t I am nosy and like to knows what is going to happen next would I put on calender when it is going to be released.
rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinions.
It was so good to be back with these characters.
This is the second book in the Life Lessons Series.
We follow Becca and Vincent in this novel.
I love how we have strong female relationships in her novels. It’s always a stand out for me. Becca, Sasha and Jules are friendships goals.
In this installment we see spitfire Becca and silent “bad boy” Vincent weave through their attraction. We as the reader get to experience highs and lows of their growing attraction. This novel does not depend on miscommunication as a trope, we know as does Becca that Vincent is holding something back. We get to see the buildup and the resolution to what he isn’t sharing with Becca. I can actually see this as something that would happen in real life relationships. Which is another reason I love this author and her stories. They are grounded in reality.
Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention the HOT & STEAMY smexy that I am used to from this author. Lets just say, she does NOT disappoint.
Get your hands on this novel, you won’t be sorry.
Becca tended to jump from guy to guy in the search for sexual release. Not really a fan of that personally. I did like her spunky attitude otherwise. Didn’t really feel a good connection between Becca and Vincent. This was probably due to the fact it was just sexual at first and then way to fast moved to love. Really liked Vincent’s back story and this is what saved the book for me.
But sometimes they make great boyfriends…
I just love that I had a chance to read Becca’s story, after getting to know her in Never Date a Doctor. I like Becca a lot, when she’s not driving me nuts. She has issues stemming from her past with her family. She’s a great friend, sassy and sexy, a party girl through and through. Vincent is falling for Becca, but thinks his past will keep him from having a girlfriend/serious relationship. He’s a really great guy, but he has secrets. Big secrets. Secrets that I never would have guessed. They have a great group of friends from the hospital. Sasha’s been busy with school and Cal (Dr. Hottie), and Becca’s feeling a bit left out. Jules is not just her boss, but a terrific friend, and a voice of reason when things begin to go south with Vincent. I enjoyed reading this book – the story line flows smoothly, it was so easy to read. I couldn’t put it down once I started.

Becca Dillon is a medical assistant in the cardiac unit at Rutherford Hospital. When a workplace crush on a mysterious bad-boy orderly unexpectedly captures her attention, she finds that Vincent DeMarco is not what she expected at all! She is falling for him and wants more than just a hook-up this time, but he is holding back. Becca is determined to find out what is keeping him from moving forward with her. But is she making a huge mistake? Will she be sorry if she discovers more than she intended?
This is a good story, the plot fast-paced and the mystery behind Vincent’s hesitation keeps the reader intrigued. Grab your copy and see if Becca finds what she is looking for.
This book is full of heat! Becca and Vincent are complex, real, I had to keep reading. If you enjoy romance and a little bit of drama, this book is the one to buy and devour. I highly recommend reading this book! I love it!
This is my first Melanie book, and I went into it pretty blind. I knew nothing about it or what to expect from it. Though a standalone, I probably would have gotten more out of this had I read Never Date A Doctor first, since there were a number of allusions to situations that took place in that book. That being said, I definitely enjoyed this one.
Bad Boys Don’t Make Good Boyfriends is the story of Becca Dillon, Medical Assistant in the Cardiac Unit of the hospital, and Vincent DeMarco, a fairly new orderly.
Becca is feisty, speaks her mind, and loves a good time. She is also distrustful of men and relationships. Quick to slap a label on a person, she has firmly placed Vincent in the “Bad Boy” category.
Vincent is…well…something else. Half the time I could not figure this dude out. Is he into her or not? Does he not want her, but he doesn’t want anyone else to have her? What Vincent is…is complicated and layered. He comes across as aloof, but there is a lot more going on under the surface. And though he may not talk about it, it is obvious this dude has secrets. And those secrets? Woah.
Becca and Vincent work well together…when they aren’t arguing. (Though that arguing does lead to some mighty fine chemistry.) But when these two actually open up to one another? Oh, the feels.
And that ending? My heart. I’m a selfish enough reader to admit that I would LOVE to see more of what comes after for these two!
5 STARS
I loved reading Becca’s story, especially after being introduced to her character in Never Date A Doctor. She still lacks a filter and is still lovable with her loudmouthed ways. Enter bad boy hottie, Vincent, with his quiet broodiness and throw in some unexpected gossip-worthy drama and this story is an EPIC read. Their interactions are hot and cold, but when it’s hot, it’s absolutely scorching. Opposites truly do attract.
Bad Boys Don’t Make Good Boyfriends is an EPIC read and will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
I enjoyed Becca’s story and I especially liked the twists and turns of Vincent’s past. As many of the characters from the first book in the series appear in this story, it was fun, too, hearing about their ongoing lives. There’s a lot heat packed into Becca and Vincent’s relationship, along with tons of emotion and heart wrenching moments.
Wow this book get so hot you may need a cold shower I absolutely could not get enough of this I was hooked from the first page great writing job bravo loved it and if anyone is looking a steamy wonderful read then add this one to your list you will not be disappointed I was not, I loved it

Though Becca may be crushing a tad bit on Vincent, she knows better than to let him know because she’s not down with bad boys. But is Vincent really as she judges him to be?
Somehow, someway the two embark upon something that neither was expecting, and it’s looking like there’s real happiness in the future for them. But Vincent is hiding something significant, and not only does it have to the power to change everything, but the very fact that he’s hiding it could spell the end for their relationship. Will Vincent open up in time to save their relationship?
I love the push and pull between Becca and Vincent and damn…the chemistry is hot! But my favorite part of this book is Becca – she’s smart and strong and a sweetheart. Vincent ended up being perfect for her even if he seemed to be the opposite of what she needed on the outside.
I found this book quite enjoyable, even though I wasn’t too sure at the beginning. It was the second in a the Life lessons series; and having not read the first volume, I worried about being lost as to what was going on. Although there did appear to be some backstory that were alluded to but that we weren’t made privy to much here, there was nothing too confusing and the story just moved forward through current events.
I had a hard time relating to Becca at first, from her brash attitude to sleeping around. But I certainly understood her falling for a guy who (at least at first glance) seems like he might be at least a bit of a bad boy, not to mention that he may or may not be interested in her. Vincent himself was a bit perplexing. He certain ran hot and cold as far as his reactions to Becca, and I for one wasn’t sure what to make of that.
Considering the background and situation that they both came from, it was a wonder they were ever able to get together at all, let alone work through some of the complex issues they were faced with. But it was more than apparent that both were quite emotionally invested in the relationship before it had progressed very far at all. And it was great that they put the effort and committment that they did into making it work.
Once the truth comes out about everything, it is apparent that he had legitimate reasons for keeping things from Becca. And yet it really irked me that he didn’t understand her trepidation at how secretive and deceitful he appeared.
There were some characters that seemed determine to make trouble, and they certainly tried to do so, on more than one occasion. This had the potential to turn me off from the story because I don’t like a lot of drama and angst. Fortunately though, these incidents were rather quickly resolved, and all ended relatively well, even quite great in some regards.
I’d definitely be interested in reading future volumes in this series, and might even go back to the first volume to get caught up there on all the backstory here.
I received an advanced reader copy for an honest review of this book.
Loved this story, very easy to dive into, fast pace. Steamy at times – wow! But in addition, the storyline was quite good and very relatable. I think this would especially appeal to younger, though certainly adult, readers, as the characters’ voices are very current day lingo. This is the first Melanie Smith hood I’ve read, and I’m looking forward to my next book by her.
3.25/5 stars!
The spunky heroine has the hots for the quiet hero. There is mutual attraction but the hero resists at the beginning due to personal reasons. However, as the relationship deepens, the couple must face personal struggles and other obstacles if they want to have a future together.
I enjoyed the heroine’s personality, even with the hangup she has about her family. There were definitely a great set of characters surrounding the couple. I did feel ambivalent for the hero, as I didn’t feel that he has the “bad boy” vibe and his silence about his secret. Also I wanted more interactions between the heroine and the hero about their relationship.
Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. I would recommend this story and the author, whom I look forward to reading more of her books.
**Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.**
Bad boys don’t make good boyfriends is a hell of a title for an outstanding book. I loved Vincent’s attitude and just how alluring his personality was. Becca was a great character. I loved how she could be sassy and sexy and not put up with the bs that’s handed to her. Their dynamic is interesting to read, they seem to feed off one another’s energy and thrive being near each other. Melanie A. Smith doesn’t disappoint with this novel. It’s got everything I could want in a romance story; the great chemistry between the love interests, a good plot that doesn’t drag on, and great writing.
It takes a special author to drop a Mel Brooks callback into a medical swooner. I am pleased to report that’s exactly the romance Melanie A. Smith has penned in her second book of the Life Lessons series of standalones.
Of course Becca, the snarky star of BBDMGB, brings the funny. And best believe, Vincent, brings the hot. But I dare you to get enough of the Rutherford Hospital crew – there’s nothing better than spying on Sasha and Cal in the throes of couplehood.
If you love alphas with a heart of gold and self-possessed heroines who break all their own rules to let the right one in, give Smith’s latest release a spin.
Bad Boys Don’t Make Good Boyfriends is an insta 5-star from word one, fight me.
It took me a few chapters to really get into this one, but I’m glad I stuck it out. Otherwise, I would’ve missed a good story with a few surprising twists to it. This was my first read by this author, but I liked how she managed to flip the whole “bad boy” idea on its head and provide some angst and drama without going OTT with unbelievable mess. And I REALLY liked how Becca and her brother set a lot straight about their family. After all that she’d perceived, it was refreshing to see that perception isn’t always reality when it comes to family and love.
Melanie does it again! Another brilliant story that I couldn’t get enough of
The book made me chuckle because as a teen I’ve always been attracted to the “Bad boy” persona of men and eventually ending up with one the story plot was so well written and Becca & Vincent was brilliant i loved how feisty she was but also true to herself. Vincent well damn! Holy hotness lol but to see another side to him was perfect. I loved this and think everyone should read it.
