Melissa Foster brings the heat in Bad Boys After Dark: Brett! Sexy billionaire? Don’t mind if I do!
4.5 Sweet, Sexy, Swoony Stars!
I was so excited for Brett’s story, the lone hold out for love. I knew that Sophie, his brother’s legal assistant would be his undoing. But this romance was not so simple, it was so much more, and I loved the direction Foster took us. The Bad boys had a younger sister who was ill and died way too young. Brett was the closest to her and felt the loss deeply. He also never recovered from the heartbreaking devastation it cost his family. He was determined to never open up to that kind of pain again. But Sophie was smart, sweet and funny. She was a small town girl, with a supportive and loving family. She wanted more out of life, working hard at a job she loved, and didn’t compromise her ideals. Brett was so taken by her, and couldn’t stop thinking about the woman who could be sexy one moment and so adorably cute the next. This story was so much fun, but so tender and emotional as Sophie showed Brett how family can suffer but survive and flourish. Brett has a close relationship with his brothers, and their wives, but it was Sophie who really showed him what love truly was. Paul Woodson continues to bring this funny, sexy, emotional series to life. I always enjoy his smooth, deep voice, but his subtle inflections and intonations is what makes this story even more engaging. I’m not ready to let these Bad boys go but I also am intrigued by Sophie’s sister Grace and am excited to listen to her story next in Embracing Her Heart!
Whenever I finish a Melissa Foster book, I always think, “there’s no way she can top this” and then she does and I fall more for each successive man! Especially the Bad ones!
Brett struck me as a a total manwhore who had NO plans to settle down, but deep down was a sweetheart. I just knew he would be. Yes he had some healing to do but once he set his mind to it, OH he was amazing.
And I just love the Bad boys. And the women who have conquered them. They’re all so perfect for each other!
Another thing I absolutely love is the series’ or characters sorta tie into the next books. So they’re all part of the same world, even if they’ve already gotten their HEA.
***5 stars****
I love all Bad brothers, but from the beginning I was intrigued by Brett and what he’s really like. So glad I got to finally read his book and understand his character and personality more. Also love Melissa’s writing and how she continued to interconnect the various series and characters through these books.
Brett is successful, gorgeous, down to earth guy with playboy ways. Underneath all that gruffness lies vulnerability and a heart of gold. He’s such a sweetheart. But he’s had his eye on Mick’s assistant Sophie for quite awhile. He couldn’t decipher why he is so attracted to her. He doesn’t think he deserves love so he only can offer one night. Brett also has baggage and is jaded from the past.
Sophie is such a great heroine. Strong, loveable, caring, loving, understanding and feisty. What I love about her is that she knows exactly what she wants. She’s been crushing on Brett for quite awhile but was afraid to do something about it because she didn’t want to end up heartbroken.
I loved and adored Brett and Sophie and their connection and development through book. From the moment they met there were sparks and intense undeniable connection. Loved their flirty banter and easy going conversations they had. I think at some point they started as friends and that that was good foundation for the relationship they developed. Love the dates they were going on and the persistent nature of Brett and his wooing. Love how open and honest they were with each other and how he cherished and treated her. When Brett finally realized he’s in love with Sophie and would do anything for her was really emotional and sweet moment. Brett and Sophie’s journey to happily ever after was amazing and emotional and watching them fall in love was really awesome.
I loved both Sophie’s family and Brett’s family. They really were a great addition to their story and it helped me understand both characters more.
Highly recommend this book and series.
Brett is such a fascinating mix as a character. He is a ‘sexy, swoony’ one-nighter and yet shows a compassionate and loving side that is not immediately evident.
He has been lusting after Sophie who is a down to earth lady but she wants something more out of a relationship and would rather not have one if she has to settle for less.
Oh dear! What a predicament but one that Melissa Foster finds a way to write a hot, steamy, romantic story about and this one is even more brilliant than the previous three in the series.
Oh, how I wish there were more ‘Bad’ brothers than the four in this series!
A definite thumbs up for this one!
The Bad Brothers are strong, intense, persistent and powerful. Once you meet them, you can’t help but want to spend more time with them and Brett Bad was no exception. From the moment I met Brett I was curious to know what made this playboy tick.
Brett is averse to commitment. He is not looking to be tied down to one woman as he believes love was not meant for him. Watching his brothers fall under the spell of love was not enough to change his mind. Then he met Sophie Roberts. He finds himself drawn to her, but she refuses to respond to his overtures. All he wants is one night with her to so he can move on to his next conquest, but is this enough to purge Sophie Roberts from his mind and heart?
Sophie is looking for her forever after, but she knows Brett is not the one to offer it to her. Unfortunately, this did not stop her from being attracted to him. Her attraction to him made refusing his advances difficult and so she granted him his wish for one night with her. Will she be able to give Brett what he desires without risking her heart in the process?
I enjoyed the moments spent with this wonderful couple. I detest players, but when I learned the reasons behind his actions, I could not help but empathise with him. Brett struggled with guilt, which stemmed from tragic events in his past. It was this guilt coupled with fear, which made him commitment phobic.
Spending time with Sophia proved to the best medicine for Brett. Her love healed him in ways he never thought possible. It gave him the courage to face his demons, thus making him a stronger person. A man who is not afraid to express his feelings is strong and Brett became that person through the healing power of love. Sophie saw in Brett what he failed to see in himself. I admired her willingness to risk all for her forever love. How much of us would risk the pain of a broken heart hoping to find our own forever love?
Their romance was sweet and spicy. These two burnt up the pages. I loved that their romance was drama free and any obstacles to their relationship lay with them. I admired Brett’s attempts to prove to Sophia that he was willing to give her what she so desired. Watching them navigate the hills and valleys of their relationship was heart-warming and a stark reminder that true was worth fighting for.
Ms. Foster is known for writing stories, which not only focuses on the romance between her characters, but also on the unbreakable bonds of friendship and the value of family. These themes featured strongly in this installment. I enjoyed spending time with Sophia’s family, especially her grandmother who was the life of the party. Spending time with Sophia’s family was an eye opening experience for Brett. An experience, which would forever change him.
Conclusion/ Recommendation
Brett: Bad Boys After Dark took me on a journey I was not prepared for, but one I thoroughly enjoyed. The emotions leapt from the pages and the story flowed fluidly. Brett’s story is the fourth and final book in the series and it is my favourite of all. Ms. Foster delivered a sweet, sexy romance with heart, which I found enchanting and captivating.
Another steamy read form a reliable author! She never fails to deliver great characters, lots of steamy scenes and a happy ending.
Another steamy, sexy, can’t put this book down read by Ms. Foster. The entire time I was reading this book one phrase kept running through my head, ” The bigger they are, the harder they fall”. I think that fits Brett so well.
I love that Brett and Sophie’s attraction is so strong that it pulls them together until she can’t help but give him(and herself) a chance. I love how well they complement each other, they seem like total opposites but it works so well for them.
While this was a steamy book it still managed to give me that warm fuzzy feeling, like there is still true romance in this world. Brett and Sophie’s story allowed me to get lost in another world while reading and that is the best feeling a book can ever give. I can’t wait for more from Ms. Foster.
Brett Bad is more than interested in Sophie Roberts, his brother’s legal assistant. He’s been flirting with her during most of the Bad Boys After Dark series. I adored Brett and his banter with Sophie in Mick and I was hoping Ms. Foster would write a happily ever after for the couple. Brett is a fast paced, opposites attract romance filled with humor, passion and fabulous secondary characters.
Family bonds and family values were important to both Sophie and Bret– these themes resonated with me and I enjoyed every page of the couple’s journey. Although Sophie is a strong, independent woman who lives in New York City; she’s a small town girl with strong ties to her family and community. Loved that Sophie decided to take a leap of faith with Bret but remained true to herself. Bret is the youngest Bad brother and he has got a one and done reputation. Second dates are not part of his resume until he and Sophie connect. Loved the scenes when Bret struggled with dating—Bret was not a planner and his fumbles added lots of humor to the story.
Melissa Foster is known for writing fun, quirky, relatable secondary characters. I loved Sophie’s Mom, Dad, sister Lindsay, Grandfather but, it was Sophie’s Nana who practically stole the show from the main characters! Nana’s unfiltered comments and sassy behavior added so much to the story—loved that Bret found Nana adorable! Bret gained insight to Sophie during their visit with her family His conversation with Poppi about grief and appreciating life were honest, emotional and perfectly written.
Bret and Sophie’s story captivated me from the first chapter. Both characters grew during novel. Sophie and Bret were friends—they flirted at social events, texted each other but Sophie was torn about spending time with Bret. She took a leap of faith and found love. I adored that Bret wanted to be a better man for Sophie. Bret made a tough decision towards the end of the novel—he needed to apologize to someone and deal with his past before he could start his future with Sophie.
If you are looking for an engaging read full of humor, passion and love of family—this is the book for you.
And the epilogue….Bret breaks a few rules in the name of love—it’s the perfect ending to a fabulous story!
Just listen to this name… Brett Bad… what do you think of? Alpha male, sexy as heck, bad boy with an attitude is what I thought of and Brett Bad is all that and so much more. After losing his sister to leukemia he has put his heart away and made himself closed off to opening his heart. Well, until he meets his brother’s legal assistant Sophie Rogers. Without even trying she makes him want things that he thought he could never wish for.
This couple is amazing. While it starts as a take what you get hook-up it quickly turns into something more. I love that Sophie was willing to accept that Brett only had so much to offer yet ever so gently pushes him to offer more. Most of the time Brett didn’t even realize that Sophie was pushing until he had already gave her some of what she was looking for. Their relationship was all physical at the start but there was emotion and heart underneath that physical part very quickly.
Brett’s story is the final chapter in the Bad Boys After Dark series. It was fun to catch up with the other brothers and their partners. There were weddings, family get together, and babies to learn about. I am sure in future book in the Love in Bloom Series the Bad Boys will make an appearance and I can’t wait to see what they are up to.

Ruthie –
What a fantastic final story in the series – but I am looking forward to meeting the Bad guys and their loves in new books from Ms. Foster.
This is the fourth book in the series, and whilst it could be read as a standalone, why would you deny yourself the goodness of all these lovely books. In fact, there are links through all Ms. Foster’s books, so if you have read some of them, you may well find old friends pop up too. I am going to assume that you have read the previous three books in my review.
Brett is the last brother standing alone, and even after the revelations of Carson’s book, he still believes that he is responsible for much of what destroyed his family. Therefore, he maintains that he should remain alone and not get the happiness which he cannot deserve. He has not denied himself pleasure, but never more than once. Unfortunately, since he met Sophie he can’t raise any interest in anyone else, and she is not the one-night stand kind of woman. She works for his brother, Mick, which means that Brett is often around. But she will not be another name on his list. One of them has to give…
I loved how these two reconciled their viewpoints with their desires. It would have been easy for Sophie to weaken, but she never does. She is strong, supportive, and also soft and generous. And she needs to be as Brett is finally having to come to terms with all those feelings he has bottled up for so long. I did trust Ms. Foster would make everything work out, but there were a few tense moments!
The time that they spend with her family is absolutely fantastic. Thank goodness I didn’t have a Nana… but what a great character! I also had this feeling that there are plenty of stories to tell with the new generation of friends and family that we meet – which is just the best news.
This is a perfect mix of funny, sexy, moving, and ultimately, a supremely positive story.

Welcome to the last of the Bad Brothers, this is Brett’s story. And a good thing is that all of the brothers are in this story at some point.
Brett doesn’t think he is cut out for love when he sees his brothers finding their women and falling head over heels in love. He thinks that love is not made for him. So, he sticks with different women and not the same one twice. He has been drawn to Sophie for as long as he can remember, but he just wants one time with her. So that he can get her out of his system.
Sophie works for Mick, Brett’s older brother, and she is a relationship and forever kind of girl. Something Brett doesn’t feel he can give her. Although Sophie has liked Brett for a while now, she doesn’t feel she can give him one time and not lose her heart. She wants forever because that is what she saw growing up, her parents and grandparents have been in love forever. And Sophie will not settle for less.
Can Brett give her what she needs and learn to love her as she deserves? Will Sophie give in and lose her heart to Brett and have it broken in the end? Will Brett learn what love really is from being around Sophie and her family? Will his brothers help him see that his past wasn’t his fault?
I loved these brothers and the women who loved them, and maybe a story in the future will show all the brothers, their wives and children gathering just so we can see how everyone is doing? If you haven’t read anything from Melissa Foster, just pick one, most of the stories are tie-ins and can be read as standalone anyway. She is one of my go-to authors and I don’t even have to know what the story is going to be about, I want to read it, it is a given. So, if you are looking for a really great story, with hot men and women who love them, check out this series. I hope you love it as much as I have.

M/F Romance
First off, I have loved each of these books that I have read – some were from Wicked Reads and others were on my own. While they don’t necessarily have to be read in order or at all, I would strongly recommend them.
Brett is the “last man standing” of his brothers. Everyone else has found a partner in life and despite him feeling sometimes, jealous, he knows that he can’t offer that to anyone. He likes his life and likes that he can bed any woman he wants – but he’s also careful about whom he chooses. When he meets his brother’s employee, all bets are off. She gets under his skin and parks it there.
Sophie is a strong woman who knows herself well. She knows that even though she is attracted to Brett, she can’t have one-night stands and not become attached. Despite his persistence, Sophie stays fairly true to herself. I absolutely loved her family and their interactions – they had a hilarity that kept the story moving forward.
Sophie’s ability to mold into what she knew Brett needed, whether it be sex kitten or an ear to listen, helped to form the chemistry and dynamic between Brett and herself throughout.
I really enjoyed watching this story unfold and can’t wait for more!

When you open one of these novels by this author you know she will end up giving you yet another one that leaves you jelly. Brett is one that you want to not like but can not because of his charm. Sophie picks your interest and with the two together they take you on their story. There is heat that slowly warms you but a touch of sweetness that you know when done it will be delicious. Her forever is the kind you want or need in a read with it being hers being the one that brands her. The humor that is laced is what balances it out but this even though contemporary keeps you in it wanting to know each step. Just why you read a romance from beginning to end.
Grief affects everyone differently & can cause the strongest of adults to crumble. When it involves a young child, it tears everyone’s lives apart. Bad Boys After Dark follows the four Bad brothers as they try to come to terms with lingering feelings of loss, grief & anger after their sister died years ago & tore their family apart.
I have to say, I love Brett! He appears to have everything. He’s rough, tough & irresistible to all women. Well, except for Sophie. Brett is the king of one night stands & short term relationships. He will NOT commit to anything longer. For reasons only Brett knows (& you find out in the book!), Brett is afraid of giving too much of himself.
Sophie works for Brett’s brother. She’s attracted to him & it doesn’t help that they are constantly thrown together through work. She knows better than to give into the attraction though. She’s seen all of the women Brett goes through & she doesn’t want to be another in the long line. She’s determined to get her happy ending.
This book has it all. I laughed at parts. I cried. The grief of the family left behind came through Melissa Foster’s masterful dialogue to grab the reader’s heart & emotions. The interactions between Brett & Sophie were full of snark, sass & tense attraction turning to tenderness & affection. The interactions between Brett & his brothers were at times hilarious & at other times, supportive & emotional. Brett & Sophie actually bring out the best in each other. Brett forces Sophie out of her comfort zone & to take risks while Sophie shows Brett that emotions are good things & that he needs to deal with his. This was a very powerful romance & one I will be reading over & over!
Brett Bad likes to think he knows how to impress. Right there is when I want to see what woman is going to take him down. Sophie Roberts shows why he’s so hard to resist – and that bad part is he knows it. He’s a man that if you looked up the word temptation in the dictionary, his picture would be there – my apologies to the cover model.
Brett seems to have some issues because his head is saying one thing but his heart is saying something else. His brain doesn’t seem happy about that fact either. It was an interesting trifecta once his mouth got involved. I hate to say it but we get to laugh quite a bit at his expense. Sophie’s more of the straight man – or in this case the straight woman. It was also a pleasure meeting her friend Grace. She helps Sophie rethink some of her choices.
This author continues to amaze me in how her scenes flow so seamlessly from one to the next. She knows what is needed to heat our imaginations and our blood. For me, at least, she has perfect comedic timing – I have a very hard time holding my laughter in. And she knows just the right time to add in those romantic moments. Ms. Foster creates characters that you could consider as friends, people you could truly care about, and get angry at anyone that might try to hurt them. And don’t get me started on the tension between the main characters – fan self.
It’s not hard to have those scenes playing in my head – and no I don’t mean the audio version. This is just a case of the perfect storm and I don’t want an umbrella to shield me. But I did almost need a fire extinguisher because my e-reader was getting so hot due to the fact that the main characters were creating plenty of steam heat. Our author gave me an ending that made me very happy. And as you read that last sentence you will understand why – it’s the one time I actually guessed something right.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Brett is the last Bad brother to get his shot at love, the man who never wanted a relationship has met his match and Sophie made him work for his chance with her. Once they finally made a go at something there was no looking back, they were each other’s Forever Kisses.
This book was just another reason why I love Melissa Foster’s books. She can write the sweetest love stories with some of the steamiest scenes, some of the best family pep talks and break your heart with moments between father and son.
This was a great setup for the Montgomery family. You never know when someone from another family will make a surprise visit in one of Melissa’s books.
What do you do if someone you are attracted to constantly hits on you but you know he’s a playboy? Do you risk your friendship? Do you risk your heart? Well that is the scenario Sophie finds herself in. Can she have one night of bliss with Brett without a chance for anything more? Maybe, just maybe, she won’t have to walk away after one night, maybe, Brett is ready to change his ways.
Sophie and Brett are wonderful together, their chemistry can be felt in everything they do. Melissa Foster does a wonderful job with taking a bad boy and making him the perfect man for this good girl. Sophie is hesitant but smart enough to realize that she needs to take things to the next level with Brett or he would turn into the biggest what-if of her life.
The chemistry between Sophie and Brett was AMAZING! So Hot I thought my kindle would melt. My advice would be to keep a tall glass of ice water nearby because you’ll definitely need it.
Brett is the fourth book in the Bad Boys After Dark Series but can be read as a standalone, in fact that is exactly how I read it. But I’ll warn you once you get a taste of this Bad boy you’ll want to get to know his brothers as well.
**I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book**
The queen of swoon strikes again! Melissa Foster delivers a romance that swept me away the moment I started reading Brett. A delicious blending of incredible heat, heart pounding romance, a family love that warms you to your soul. This book had me completely captivated the entire time. I giggled, I cried, I needed a fan and ice cold drink, and my heart melted more than once while reading this!
Brett and Sophie are what dreams are made of. Their chemistry and the sparks between them right from the start are intense. There’s no denying the attraction there! But the love that grows between them is what is truly incredible. Not only is it absolutely beautiful, but the growth that comes from it is something even more than words can describe.
I fell in love not just with Brett and Sophie but with both their families. Especially Nana. Nana is queen.

ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.
Melissa Foster sure knows how to write a loveable hero. She perfectly nails the troubled yet strong bad/tough/blokey male, who also happens to be so damned adorable its not funny.
Brett was my first of the Bad Boys, but I will definitely going back to read about his brothers. What an adorable family. But, I digress…this one is about Brett and Sophie, and its a wonderful story.
I really liked Sophie as the female lead, and I like how she knows what she wants. Of course, when you throw a Bad boy into this mix, particularly this one, you can forgive her for putting her worries to the back of her mind.
Her family were also a really awesome addition to this novel and I really would love to see more of them as well.
Brett and Sophie have an awesome and undeniable chemistry, and watching them come together was awesome. Particularly Brett, who has past demons that he needs to deal with. Sophie is perfect for him though, and she helps him realise things and come to terms with others, and it just works so well.
I love how two people from two totally different families and lifestyles, can come together and be just what the other needs. The real growth in this story for me is Brett, and I just adored him.
Definitely recommend this book, as always with Melissa Foster. Loved it.
4.25 stars–BRETT: Bad Boys After Dark is the fourth and final instalment in Melissa Foster’s contemporary, adult BAD BOYS AFTER DARK erotic, romance series focusing on the Bad Brothers-Mick, Dylan, Carson and Brett. This is security specialist Brett Bad, and legal assistant Sophie Roberts’ story line. BRETT: Bad Boys After Dark can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information form the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Brett and Sophie) BRETT: Bad Boys After Dark follows the building romance between security specialist Brett Bad, and his brother Mick’s legal assistant Sophie Roberts. For months Brett has been secretly pining after Sophie Roberts but our hero doesn’t do relationships, a one night stand kinda man but a man who is haunted by memories of the past. Believing himself not worthy of love, Brett will push away the woman with whom he is falling in love in the hopes of not repeating the disaster that was his parent’s relationship. What ensues is Brett’s pursuit of Sophie Roberts, and the potential fall-out as Brett struggles with memories from the past, the loss of his sister, and the battle between head and heart as it pertains to the man who abandoned his wife and family years before.
The relationship between Brett and Sophie is one of mutual attraction but Brett’s reputation precedes his introduction to our story line heroine. Always keeping Brett at a distance Sophie knows that to fall in love means heartbreak further down the road. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Brett’s brothers and their significant others. We are introduced to Sophie’s best friend Grace Montgomery, whose story line is next EMBRACING HER HEART- in the series spin-off The Montgomerys.
BRETT: BAD BOYS AFTER DARK is a sexy and sassy story line of romance, passion and a happily ever after. The premise is heart warming and inspiring; the characters are spirited and energetic; the romance is sensual, emotional and provocative. BRETT: BAD BOYS AFTER DARK is a wonderful tale about two people courageous enough to give love a chance.
The Bad Boys are at their best when faced with their worst. Tragedy has shaped them into men of strength and character. Too bad they can’t see that for themselves. Sometimes it takes a fresh pair of eyes and an open heart to help change our perspective. Brett is a good man with a bad rep when it comes to women. He won’t invest his heart long enough to explore the possibilities. Sophie is the one woman that can make him rethink that stance. If he can get this wary vixen to let down her guard and give him a chance. The After Dark series puts readers in touch with their naughty side with the sweetest of intentions. Brash dialogue, bold situations and emotion packed moments heat up the pages as Sophie and Brett dance their way into our hearts.
