“He can take my body. But my heart is now, and will always be, off-limits.”
This series was my introduction to the author and it’s safe to say that I’m addicted to her writing already. I found myself totally invested in these characters so quickly. They just leaped off the pages and into my heart. Broken and beautiful with so much pain and passion, who could resist them?
Because the author chose not to mention her name in the synopsis, I’m going to respect that and not do so either. I’ll just say that I already met her in Back to You. She made an impression and I was very intrigued to learn more about her. Shane had my attention as well. He was put into a position nobody would want to find themselves in, forced to make a decision that was a lose/lose for him. But, what else could he have done? There’s no turning back the clock and he must live with that choice, and keep that secret, right? Even if it means the woman who has his heart will never forgive him.
From childhood to adulthood these characters have been in each other’s lives, at least mentally if not physically. Pain doesn’t erase love and the heart wants what the heart wants. You can’t just decide to move on and let go of love, because it holds on to you. They move in and out of each other’s lives over the years, but they never forget each other. And since the story is told in dual POV, I know exactly how they feel, even if they don’t share their feelings with each other.
Loss and betrayal are very strong feelings and something that would be extremely difficult to get over. My heart hurt as I lived through some very tragic situations with these families. I can understand how they felt. But that didn’t stop me from wishing on a magic star, hoping that they could see past their pain to a future together. I’ve loved every hill and valley of The Road Back Home so far and look forward to wherever it takes me next. The line forms here…
I love Shane and Kayleigh. These two broken souls have so much love to give but are to stubborn to see it. The long road to their HEA is heartbreaking. Shane was always the person Kayleigh could run too until he wasn’t. Feeling alone and abandoned Kayleigh put up walls. The story takes you through the years from hen they are teenagers to where Kayleigh finally learns the truth about what really happened with her sister Madison James.
Back to Him will definitely have you in all your feels. Emotions are high and your heart will hurt but in the end it is truly a beautiful love story.
I seriously loved Shane and Kayleigh’s book. These two def are both hard headed and def put up a good fight with each other. They both have their own reasons behind why and seem to let them get in the way. So many things you find out in this book that you had no idea about and it literally leaves you going OMG SERIOUSLY!! I love a good book that keeps me on the edge of my seat and literally sucked into it! I can’t wait for the next book that Nicole Dykes puts out!
I really enjoyed Kayleigh and Shanes story. I love thats its an ongoing attraction with heartbreak and drama thrown in. Lile all books by Nicole its incredibly well written and sets up nicely for the next book with teasers and hints of whats to expect.
A solid 4.5
Man I loved this book! I seriously haven’t read one of Nicole’s books that I didn’t love.
Incredible story with amazing characters that are so real you feel what they feel. I’m so glad Shane & Kayleigh got their HEA after all their heartache
I can’t wait to see what else is in store for Kayleigh & Shane, Logan & Maddie, & of course Carrie & Jake.
Congrats on another great book Nicole, can’t wait for more of you’re amazing stories!
UGH! Two words. Brutal & Hot! Holy moly. Shane & Kayleigh. I LOVE how Nicole can make a character so hard to love, but makes you fall in love anyways. I love this series & cannot wait to get more!
Nicole Dykes did a great job on Back to Him, this was a great story, it was written well with a great plot that was filled with many feelings. It’ll take you on an emotional rollercoaster. Shane and Kayleigh were strong characters, both have been through a lot. Their relationship had many bumps in the road but they were good for one another. The connection was strong between them and their chemistry was sexy. Kayleigh and Shane were great together.
I enjoyed this story, it was great. Thank you, Nicole Dykes. Great work 🙂
If you have ever lived in a small town you know that it doesn’t take much to become the center of attention. This book is all wrapped up in that drama. Popular boy knows all the girls business and she’s in love with him even though she doesn’t want to admit. The catch. He dated her sister and knows all about her abusive past and still cares. There is tons of push and pull. And the drama and heat is there. This book plays off of the previous book but the author puts enough “past detail” that’s it’s honestly a standalone. It runs intertwined with book one not after it so there will be some events in both books but still a wonderful read!
One. Freaking. Day!!!! That is all the time it took me to start and finish this book! Kayleigh’s anger just jumps right off the page and into your face. I already knew I was going to love Shane based off his role in the last book. I just didn’t think that I was going to feel him so strongly! They volatile nature of the relationship that these 2 share made for some off the charts fireworks exploding all over the place. I was really getting very mad at Kayleigh though, I get that she was angry but I honestly felt like she was holding onto it for far too long. The anger that all the James’ girls harbor, mostly toward Maddie, is just too much. It honestly does more damage to them and the lives that they are trying to live since Maddie already has her HEA (even though we all know she wants her sisters love also)…. I am quite looking forward to hearing more about these sisters. I would absolutely LOVE to see them all back together and get the HEA that they all deserve after the messed up start they all had to their life!
What an amazing 2nd book in this series ( yes, it can be read without reading the first) Shane and Kaliegh are without a doubt two tough stubborn people. A life time of friendship, tough decisions, life changing events, all rolled into years of hookups… will they finally find the happiness they both deserve?
You never truly know what someone else is going thru until you really connect with them. What you see on the surface is just that surface. Shane and Maddison really dig into what makes the other who they are and find several things that surprise them. What draws them together and keeps them apart is all in the unknown details. Great book with a story that draws you in!
Where do I begin?? To say Shane & Kayleigh are stubborn is an understatement. I was so frustrated with these two but man did I love them all the same. Seriously this book gave me all the feels… and that is the power of Nicole Dykes and her ability to suck you in with her amazing words!
I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!
Ack! Nicole did it again. She shows her amazing ability to play with my emotions. Kayleigh and Shane are both strong, head strong and independent people who survived hardships that make weaker people crumble. It seems as if they are cursed, by circumstances, by timing and by simple pigheadedness. Book 2 in The Road Back Home series does not disappoint. I laughed, cringed and yelled at the characters in this book. I wish the story was even longer but I am genuinely happy with the story overall. I cannot wait to see more of the characters in this series.
When Shane Keller comes back into town he can’t help but to be taken back by Kayleigh James. He remembers her as a kid not this beautiful woman. While Kayleigh won’t admit to anyone that she’s always been in love with Shane even though he’s 5 years older than her. Kayleigh is this strong minded person who has built this wall around her feelings.
Shane and Kayleigh have this struggle between them and can never seem to get on the same path.
Even though my emotions were all over the place I still really loved reading this book and had a hard time putting it down!
I may love the “Monroe’s” but I’m beginning to fall for the “Keller’s”!
At first glance you will think you know both characters. Shane is the bad boy with the big attitude. Kayleigh is tough as nails. she is no holds barred and in your face sassy. That is true, but they are so much more. They love their family and will make sacrifices for them. Sometimes at the price of his their own happiness. Shane’s secret is not really his own and it causes major pain and heartache in his life and eventually the life of his family. He thought he was doing the right thing, In hindsight it may have been the right thing. It causes him to keep things with Kayleigh at arms length. The are together but not together until Kayleigh has enough and leaves.. It takes a lot of growing for these two love birds to get the behinds in order. In the end it was all worth the fight. You have to live with your decisions and make the best move forward.
I have both wanted to love Shane and punch Shane then turn around and want to be his girlfriend. Lol This series is so interesting and unique. I could not stop reading once I started. I love the feisty women in this story as well. I highly recommend this story to others.
“More secrets. More lies. More betrayal.”
That one quote is the perfect way to sum up the book. This book will show you that one decision affects everyone and everything in your life. Another of my favorite quotes of the book is “Of course, I know all too well the line between love and hate is often a f….ing blur.” Shane and Kayleigh’s relationship is a definite love/hate relationship. Can they overcome one life altering decision to have their own happy ever after? Read to find out…..the rest of the story.
Kayleigh is an amazingly strong woman having endured an abusive father as well as her older sister leaving her and her younger sisters without a word. For years, she has loved Shane but even he let’s her down and when he shows up back in town, well, her anger is palatable. But deep down, that love she has for him has never died but forgiveness isn’t something she does. Shane was crushed by Maddie and left town which meant he left Kayleigh behind too. Then he helps Maddie which creates an even bigger rift between him and Kayleigh. He truly doesn’t see himself as a guy that can have a relationship. When he finally embraces the love/hate from Kayleigh, the connection and chemistry is off the charts. But is there too much hurt to overcome? Will he realize he can love someone and it’s worth the risk? Will Kayleigh be able to open up and forgive? These two kept my heart pounding and my gut wrenching as they dealt with all their crazy emotions. Each is so stubborn but together, well, it was truly beautiful.
Decisions that Shane made in the past to help Maddison James were made under pressure and with the best intentions. But now the lies and deceit have come back to haunt him.
For Kayleigh James it’s always been Shane Keller. She loved him for so long…. but now she hates that she still loves him.
The truth will come out, but will it fix the broken past they share? Or will it just drive them further apart!
It’s a smoking hot ride to find out! Oh and that ending! Or is it another beginning!!
These two… I swear they will frustrate you so much but in the end its really worth it. Kayleigh and Shane are like fire and ice. They each have their own issues that they need to work on. Kayleigh is bitter but she has good reason to be. Her life hasn’t gone like she planned. She got the short end of the stick for real. Her older sister left, thought she was doing the right thing but in turn, she made her sisters bitter and pissed off. Kayleigh is full of fire and sass. She wants out but she also knows that someone needs to take care of the parents. She’s loyal. Her and Shane have a very complexed relationship. They go back and forth a lot in this book. One minute they like each other and the next not so much. There’s secrets that hurt them. When you have the Keller brothers and James sisters, nothing is ever normal and issues always arise that either break or make a relationships. I won’t lie, I wanted to throw my kindle a few times with them but I was happy to see a happy ending for them. This book is good with all kinds of drama(cause it wouldn’t be a Nicole book without it lol) and characters you will fall in love with.
