What is The Bachelor Society? It’s a gentleman’s club—like the dignified men of the past used to have. Except, we’re not gentleman, and we’re not dignified. We’re ineligible bachelors; bored, jaded and not looking for relationships. Quite the opposite actually…
Rules are involved. Prizes.
Laugh it up, but I’m no loser. Enemy number one to my single status? My irresistible neighbor, Abbott Margolis. She with her evil cat Desdemona, and Sexy AF pencil skirts. She’s kind and beautiful and hilarious. We can’t get involved, no matter how much her meddling grandmother pushes us together. But if I was going to lose this bet for anyone? It would be for Abbott. Let’s face facts: I’m a bastard, unwilling to settle down. Especially when there’s a bet to win.
more
Brooks has started a club with other men that are committed to staying single. They even have a bet going on to see who can stay single the longest. Abbott is the next door neighbor to Brooks and she’s smoking hot. The banter between the two was witty and funny. The grandmother was funny as well with trying to get the couple together. A good read.
Sara’s new series the Bastard Bachelor Society is bringing some reminiscent feels from the How to Date a douchebag Series. With my love for her writing and “douche bag” in the title, how could I not adore this book?!
Abbot and Brooks have a weird friendship. From Abbots drunk elevator antics to Brooks just inviting himself into her apartment, it starts quickly and their sexual tension is evident.
But neither of them are willing to cross that line, the invisible one that could ruin the perfect thing they’ve got going. That doesn’t stop them though from pushing each other every so often. In addition to Abbots spitfire Nan pushing them closer, it’s only a matter of time on who will cross the line first?
And is Brooks willing to lose his Bachelors bet with his friends or Abbott instead…
Abbot was quirky and cute. She had some sass but was mostly all class. While Brooks was a grade A a-hole on the surface he was actually a softy. While Even though he had his super charming moments, I found him to be really whiney especially Over the cat. Which is awesome enough, Desdemona gets her own POV (hell yes!)
It’s a funny, lighthearted read that’s sexually charged. Similar to many of Sara’s other books which I loved. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for slow burn, friends to lovers romance!
4.5 Stars
This was a fun, funny story. I giggled a lot throughout the book.
“You better be careful or you’re going to end up falling in love with this girl.”
Just as Brooks Bennett forms his little bachelors society with his two best friends and makes a crazy bet, he meets his new neighbour, Abbott Margolis. After a dodgy start, they become friends and he finds himself spending a lot of time with her. In fact, as time goes on, he’d rather spend all his spare time with her than with his other friends. She’s sexy, smart and funny. He’s in serious danger of losing his bachelor card but…for a guy who’s come from nothing, there’s a lot at stake.
“Just Brooks? Is there such a thing? Brooks is clever and…and has my stomach twisting into a knot.”
Abbott Margolis is always careful about the people she lets into her life. However, her gorgeous neighbour doesn’t seem to have a clue who she is. And when he does find out, it doesn’t seem to phase him. He’s fun to be with and is something of a goofball, and she loves to tease him. They have a solid friendship with a frisson of something more simmering between them. However, there’s something holding him back.
“She and I aren’t anything except friends, but the more time I spend with her, the bigger the lie that becomes.”
Abbott and Brooks were super cute together. There was lots of banter, laughter, and sexual attraction between them. They were almost in a relationship before either really realised it. Brooks and his friends were a bit like overgrown schoolboys but, on his own, he was a pretty cool guy who’s worked hard for everything he’s got. He and Abbott were really well matched and I loved how natural they were together. Fab story!
I needed this book in my life because of all the laughter, Desi or pussy of terror stole the show! I can’t wait to see what else comes from these bastards!
Great start to a new series!
I love this author’s gift of conversation! Abbott and Brooks had chemistry galore and that shined as they laughed and talked, and swoonily bantered. Their attraction couldn’t be missed as they sizzled their way from sarcastic friends to lovers one entertaining step at a time…
One came from money and the other but even that didn’t matter as they bet their way out of having any kind of relationship. Until the money didn’t matter anymore. And they looked at each other in decidedly unfriend-like ways…
I loved these characters who made me laugh as they simply owned the friends to lovers trope. Throw in Nan and Desi (who made me wonder why I don’t have a cat) and this was a great light read!

Bastard Bachelor Society by Sara Ney is the first book in her brand new The Bachelors Club series. Told in mostly dual POV we do also get a couple of hilarious chapters from Duchess Desdemona. Abbott is a quirky young executive with a chip on her shoulder to prove that she deserves her position at work and wasn’t given it due to nepotism and last names. Brooks is the neighbor across the hall that is determined to be a bachelor but truly all he wants is to find true love – he just has zero clue about that fact. This was a funny, slow build, neighbors to friends to lovers tale with some laugh out loud moments – some cringe-worthy dude/bro moments – and some redeeming realizations (by the dudes) that perhaps they weren’t 100% correct after all. Abbott’s Nan is also a hilarious factor in the tale. Enjoy!
NO SPOILERS!
Bastard Bachelor Society has hands down been one of Sara Ney’s BEST novels to date, and I absolutely LOVED Brooks and Abbott’s story! It had a fantastic and engaging storyline, hilarious and entertaining characters that stole my heart, and so many smiles and laughs to go around that made me love every minute of it.
Everything about BBS was phenomenal, but the characters really stole the show (as they should) and held a special place in my heart. Brooks and Abbott were amazing, and I adored them so much. They had lovable personalities and fantastic chemistry together, and I loved all of their witty, playful, and hilarious banter and interactions with each other. BBS also had an excellent cast of secondary characters that were just as lovable as the main ones, Nan (Abbott’s grandmother) and Desdemona (Abbott’s cat) in particular. Those two were an absolute riot and made me laugh so many times I lost count.
Bastard Bachelor Society is a MUST READ romance from Sara Ney, and has definitely been one of her BEST books yet! Brooks and Abbott’s story was exceptional in every way, and I’m so excited to read more in the The Bachelors Club series!
So… this is an interesting book review for me to write because I’m rating it a 3, maybe even a 3.5, when I almost did not finish it – what the what?! Let me explain…
I really didn’t care for the first 6 chapters of this book and almost threw in the towel. Brooks and his friends seemed so juvenile to me when I guess I went into this book expecting more mature, 30 something, business professionals making a pact together. When really, it felt like a bunch of frat boys, not even 20 something young professionals, making what kind of seemed like a silly club. BUT after chapter 6 the story finds its feet and takes off into what I’ve come to describe as signature Sara Ney writing.
What I mean by that is that Ney has this awesome ability to create stories that really just center on the 2 main characters and their interactions with the rest of the outer world just sort of slipping away. Sure, Brooks made this no dating pact with his two buddies and sure he supposedly has this awesome, demanding job as an architect, but we really don’t see much of his work or his friends for the rest of the story. Same goes for Abbott. She’s a big player at her company and yet we really don’t see her work at all either.
Bastard Bachelor Society really becomes the story of Brooks and Abbott growing closer, becoming friends and possibly more despite that not being the intent at all, especially on Brooks’ part. So, I just took it at face value that these are young people who supposedly have lives and friends outside of each other, but that we are just going to see this birds eye view on the two of them for this story and, I have to say that I LOVED that. I think Ney is one of those authors who can really pull this off with her characters (as she has in the Jock Hard series which I devoured!).
What I Loved
I did laugh out loud at some of the banter and crassness of Brooks and his friends.
And then there was Nan – who surprisingly didn’t make a lot of appearances but man she was a hoot! I loved her addition to this story.
What Fell Short
On the flipside, I really wish the beginning was stronger as I think it could lose some readers. Plus, the side additions of Brooks’ friend’s ex-girlfriend and his intern seemed kind of unnecessary when instead a bit more background on both main characters could have helped strengthen the story. Brooks’ friends themselves weren’t anything special to me either and were kind of odd. The whole cat as a character just wasn’t my cup of tea either. So I guess what I’m saying is that the book would have been really great if it just stuck to the Brooks and Abbott parts
That said, I did laugh my ass off at times and really rooted for these two.
Thank you to Sara Ney for this advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.
I’m a HUGE Sara fan…like I see her name and one click that ish like it’s my job! I was so excited to see she had a new series, and with a name like Bastard Bachelor Society I felt like it was a guarantee laugh out loud book! IT. IS.
I loved Brooks! He’s such a butthead, but at the same time he just makes me want to give him a hug. I love how he was so in denial about the status of his relationship with Abbott. And I absolutely loved how much he loved her Nan! Abbott is so perfectly quirky!! I want to be her best friend! Though I have to say maybe my favorite character was Desi!! I loved the chapters from his POV!
I so can’t wait for more of the BBS!!
Bastard Bachelor Society by Sara Ney is the first book in her The Bachelors Club series. The Bastard Bachelor Society is a group of guys determined to stay bachelors. No commitments and the one who can do it the longest will win the best each has to offer. Easy enough, right? That is until you meet the woman that will change everything!
Brooks was the brains behind the club and because of him, his friends committed as well. Then he meets Abbott. Abbot and Brooks were neighbors but had not met until after the formation of the society. They start out as friends who just hang out, but can they keep it light and friendly? As they spend more time together, lines begin to blur. I loved seeing Abbott give it right back to Brooks and call him out when needed and seeing Brooks try and fight what was happening with Abbott. But there is no way he is going to lose, right? A fun and light read and I am excited to see what is to come in this series!

Happy reading!
Bastard Bachelor Society is book one in a new series (Bastard Bachelor Club) by Sara Ney. In it, we see three best friends form their own club of bachelors (complete with rules and smoking jackets) and wager on who will be the last man standing (aka, the last bachelor of the group.) Of course, basically as soon as the group is formed, one of the friends (Brooks) meets his gorgeous neighbor (Abbott) and his allegiance to the club rules is immediately tested.
I’ve read and loved several books by this author before but this one just missed the mark for me. I never really connected with the characters and while I thought the premise was cute, something was just missing for me. I did really love any part that had Nan in it–she was my favorite character. We also get a couple of chapters from the point of view of Brooks’ cat, Desdemona, that were super fun. I’ve very much enjoyed this author’s other work, so I would absolutely read more from her.
Bastard Bachelor Society kicks off Sara Ney’s newest series, The Bachelors Club.
This book is the perfect book to curl up with when you need something light and funny. It’s hysterical, full of flirty banter, and I couldn’t get enough of it. The storyline was fun & fast-paced and hooked me from the beginning
I loved Abbot! She’s feisty & speaks her mind, the perfect mix of sweet & sassy and I would love to have her as a friend! On the other hand, Brooks wasn’t my favorite. I spent most of the book wanting to strangle him, although his scenes with Desi were some of the best I’ve ever read. And then there was Nan. She is amazing, and probably my favorite character in this whole book!
If you’re looking for a fun, sweet read that will have you laughing until you cry this is definitely for you!
Abbott and Brooks have such a fun, unconventional friendship. They both feel this attraction to one another, but neither one is wanting to cross the line. Why ruin the good thing they have going?
Their bantering, antics, and overall relationship will have you laughing in no time. Sara has a way with words, and I could honestly see a lot of Sara in Abbott. Her comments are some of the best.
This book reminded me a lot of the Douchebag series. They guys have qualities that make you realize that they have a lot of growing up to do, but that is what makes the book so entertaining. Watching Brooks’ views change and his struggle to admit his feelings was such a fun experience. I can’t wait for his friends to get their own books.
When you add in Nan (Abbott’s grandmother) and all her crazy meddling, as well as Abbott’s crazy cat, you have one hilarious book.

Oh my word, this book had me all over the place.
For real.
It started off with a lot of — what the heck is happening? Who are these people? What in the world are they doing? More importantly – why??? Picture my head tilted like a befuddled puppy. It’s not that the story is confusing, but I didn’t understand the characters or their motivations or their interactions. It all seemed a little random and chaotic and…immature.
But there was magic between Abbott and Brooks for sure. I know that because even though I spent the first quarter of this book with my eyebrow furrowed, I quickly found myself smiling like a dope at my kindle — occasionally letting loose a gleeful giggle. Because the banter, y’all? The banter is on point. It’s the perfect balance of playful, flirty, and hilarious and it gave them this chemistry that I found completely irresistible. I loved the easy way they gravitated toward each other and the sweet way that their friendship blossomed before it grew heated and into so much more. Together, they were this perfectly adorable, slightly perplexing package, and I couldn’t get enough of them.
What we have here are two characters who unapologetically march to the beat of their own drums. And somehow, the discord and chaotic noise they made separately became some sort of sweet melody when they got together. It works in a way that I can’t really even describe. There were times when Abbott’s dialogue literally mimicked my internal thoughts regarding what Brooks was doing. I adored her. She was funny, sardonic, and delightfully mischievous. And her personally shines when set against Brooks’s — who is decidedly more, uh…buffoonish? But lovable, to be sure. They bring balance to each other and it was so satisfying – and fun – to watch them fumble into feelings for each other.
Also? Secondary character game is amazing (and unexpected)! Nan – that old scene-stealer – she’s the real MVP in this book. She heightened the quirk and delivered plenty of belly laughs and took the fun of this story into the next level.
And that’s maybe the perfect way to describe the book: fun. There’s not a ton of depth here, and it’s pretty low angst (which is not a criticism, it was actually refreshing!) – but it’s a super playful, super sweet love story and I enjoyed the heck out of it in the end. I can’t wait to see what comes next!
At first I was a little unsure because of how the beginning spent setting up this BBS, and I had expected that bit to be done differently, or maybe already established before the story started. But the whole discussion as they were setting it up, and a bit tipsy at the time was full of some hilarious banter, as I have come to expect from this author.
I loved both Abbott and Brooks. I also love how the author may have used these names like Brooks Bennett, but she also had the characters make fun of or even just point out how ridiculous those names are. But the whole family and background issues were a big part, but not so much that they took up the whole story. I liked that really we got to concentrate on the relationship. And their relationship was the perfect blend of friendship as well as the sexual tension that was so high. I loved their joking about sexual things like the bib for blowies. Plus we had Abbott’s grandma who was the perfect meddler and instigator for them. At the end I liked how Brooks figured out what he wanted, and the fact that it took him the time it did was realistic to me.
Finally, there was the cat. Now if you know me, I’m a dog person really, but I do love any pets. Especially when an author makes them so much of a character in a story that they get their own chapter or two. Like Desdimona did. It reminded me a lot of the Wallbanger series by Alice Clayton and that cat’s chapters.
I look forward to more books in this series, I assume we will get both Phillip and Blaine’s stories. Now, I’m guessing Blaine might be with Bambi, but have no idea who Phillip will end up with.
Bastard Bachelor Society is the start to Sara Ney’s hilarious and fun new series. And let me tell you… it started off with a bang and never let up. She never fails to entertain me with her sweet, light-hearted, quirky and laugh out loud stories. This one introduces up to Brooks and Abbott, two neighbors that I simply could not get enough of.
Brooks and his friends are at The Basement drinking one night when they decide to form their own secret society. A time for them to wear stylish velvet jackets, socialize, drink booze and smoke cigars. The number one rule… No relationships allowed. In fact, they decide to make a wager on it, and Brooks thinks he has it in the bag. But unfortunately for him, he doesn’t stand a chance once he meets her.
Abbott is a smart, sassy and successful young ad executive who loves Britain and all things vintage. After an awkward and hilarious run-in with her handsome new neighbor, the two quickly become fast friends. Their friendship was filled with flirty banter, lots of spark and also introduced us to some completely endearing characters… the busybody nan, an evil cat Desdemona and a great group of hilarious best friends.
Bastard Bachelor Society was a delightful, funny and swoon worthy read that drew me in from the very first page. It was simply and utterly unputdownable, and I devoured it in a day. I loved Brooks and Abbott and everything about their sweet and perfectly matched pairing. Five stars for Brooks, Abbott and Sara Ney.
Why aren’t my neighbors as hot as these two???
Bachelor Bastard Society is the first in a new series by Sara Ney. It was a fun, quirky read and Abbott and Brooks were a cute combination.
Brooks meets Abbott literally right after starting a new ‘gentleman’s club’ with his two best friends Blaine and Phillip. They made rules and laid bets.
Now the man who had sworn off relationships is mooning over the girl he just met while spending all his time spare time with her.
Abbott thought she had Brooks pegged. She friend-zoned him, then got to know him. And he’s not the guy she originally saw.
Now she wants out of the zone she put them in.
It’s fun watching these two together. They have a scorching chemistry and some hilarious and sexy banter.
Brooks’s fall was precious and well worth it. Abbott is a clever, sassy woman and Brooks, despite is ‘Society’s disclaimer, isn’t a bastard at all. He’s kind and sweet, and just plain adorable whilst being sexy as sin. This book is a One-Clicker for me. Grab your copy and find out why.
This was so much more than I expected. It was so much better than my imagination too! The banter and laughs from this was out of this world. I loved Brooks and Abbot’s friendship turned more. The way they meet, the way they interact, the way they just fit, made me giddy. Her Nan was even better!
3.75 stars. This was a cute book! Bachelor Bastard Society is Brooks and Abbott’s book. After a bad breakup, Brooks makes a pact with his two best friends to form a gentlemen’s club, complete with personalized smoking jackets and a set of rules to live by. The rules include no exclusive girlfriends, no seeing the same woman more than three times a week, no marriage or babies and a few other silly rules. They each put up a wager of something very valuable to them that they will forfeit if they break the rules. Brooks is set on remaining a bachelor and is also a bit arrogant. He has no plans to break the rules. But then he doesn’t plan on meeting Abbott. She is his beautiful across the hall neighbor, with whom he has instant chemistry. With no plans to be with anyone romantically, he sees how great Abbott is, so he sets about making her his friend. The two become very close. Eventually, they fall for each other and Brooks willingly gives up the bachelor life.
This book was cute and sweet! I really liked this fun story of friends to lovers with great banter. I really liked both Abbott and Brooks. He played at being a jerk, but he was really a nice guy. The only negative I saw was that they became such great friends that I didn’t really feel the slow burn between them until they actually got physical. I was totally convinced in their best friendship that I didn’t feel a ton of fire there. Still, by the end, I found them to be a cute couple and felt the love between them. I liked that the book felt safe and the was no major drama.
Overall, this was a fun read. Abbott and Brooks were really cute together. I enjoyed the story and start to a new series. I look forward to more from Ms. Ney in the future!
Sometimes I need a simple, charming, warm , gooey, sweet and adorable romance to feel all light and good. And Bastard Bachelor Society by Sara Ney is exactly that story. It was pure Rom Com perfection with witty banter, flawless chemistry and cuteness overload!
Brooke Bennett is jaded, bitter and angry. He does not want to do anything with a relationship. And so he makes this ridiculous secret society with two of his best friends. And they place this bet with something valuable from each one. That who manages to stay single and abide by all rules will win. And then he meets his neighbour. Sweet, sassy, weird, different, smart and hot neighbour. Abbott. From the super rich family who practically owns the city, yet with zero attitude and snobbery and the biggest heart ever. And she comes with the coolest Nan and meanest cat ever. As they spend more and more time as “friend” and he has the time of his life, what will happen next?
The humor in this story is one hundred percent on point. Like I could not stop myself from laughing out loud way too many times and my stomach is hurting too much. The chemistry between Brooke and Abbott is ridiculously crazy. They go back and forth like well oiled machines. They tease, they taunt, they use snarky bites and they also care about each other too much. The light hearted and swoony moments blend with sexy and steamy moments seamlessly. This is such a simple story but the author filled it up with best kind of feelings. The kind of romance that makes me dizzy with happiness and go “awwww” from all the amazing feelings. I loved Brooke with his charming sense of humor, devilish good looks and a big heart behind the cynic single guy. I loved Abbott with all her quirky attitude and sharp mind. And I loved them together as they created pure magic!
Bastard Bachelor Society by Sara Ney is true romance to the very core. It is filled with so many endearing and delightful moments. The characters are amazing. The emotions are brilliant. I loved every single moment of it!
