I’m a sucker for SEALS and a sucker for second chances. Morgan gets two second chances. Like real life, anything worth having, doesn’t come easy. Loved Morgan and Halley, and JJ too! Wonderful characters! I enjoy all Sharon Hamilton’s military stories! She’s so creative and just draws you in!
I just love Sharon Hamilton books. Her characters are amazing. The story are so heartfelt adventures. You cant stop reading nor wanting more. I so cant wait for more books
3.5
The choices that get you where you are and choices that get you to where you want to be. Definitely kept my attention from beginning to end. Second chances can be just what you need
OH WOW!! We normally get to see the best of what makes a SEAL so infamous. In this book, we get to see a side that shows no matter how wonderful and heroic – they have battles and flaws just like the rest of us. Sometimes, those flaws destroy and push loved ones away. It’s been over a decade, life has moved forward in monumental ways for Halley while for Morgan they are moving but stagnating also. Until Halley’s – Women’s Empowerment conventions marks her as a terrorist cells target for elimination… No matter the consequences… Morgan will do everything in his power to protect her, evening coercing his way into a super secret task force.
Sharon Hamilton has written a beautiful and thoroughly intriguing book that deals with real life issues. Beautiful, angst filled, drama and suspense and dealing with the ramifications of when love doesn’t always work out the way we planned.
Incredibly strong, caring characters, with such depths of inner fortitude, that never give up attitude, even when life throws curve balls and gets tough. It’s always good to catch up with familiar team members and know they are there for each other no matter what – they are family and will do whatever it takes to protect those they love. I loved the addition of two seals that worked hard put didn’t quite make it yet given an opportunity to showcase their humour and skill sets…
Tensions are high, suspense leaves you waiting. No matter what – you have to trust your former training, trust your innate instincts, focus, attention to detail, and put any differences aside – to save those your love even when you know you are not what’s best for them.
Those aspects of the book were great… a few minor details that could have been further explored, as they added to that escalating tension and suspense (her assistant and brother). I think sometimes Authors need more room to really make their stories come alive. Novella’s I don’t think give that opportunity, especially in a story like this where it needed more room to develop a plot and all that was going on… I would have liked to have seen more story with the two young Seals that infiltrated to show that side of the terrorists plot… while there was always chemistry with Halley… a new man was there and that ending could have been so much more… but that’s a reader wanting more and more… which I figure can’t always happen. I still loved reading this story, the cultural differences and similarities that we all are as human beings… we want love, we want equality, we want freedom to be who we are.
Sharon Hamilton is one of my favourite authors in Military/Romantic Suspense genre. If you love page-turning, breath taking words, along with dramatic tension and romance – Sharon, delivers this and so much more for her readers.
There’s a lot about this story that I really enjoyed. Morgan and Halley are very appealing, and the storyline is engaging. The drama was good with a buildup of suspense that at times may keep you on the edge of your seat, but I almost rated this 3 stars because it lacked that potential you usually expect from this author’s books.
Morgan and Halley’s return to intimacy was unexpected and didn’t feel like a natural course based on their behavior up to that point. Also, the storyline was a bit choppy at times with several unexplored threads. It was like some vital scenes were cut which would have provided more depth. Having said this, I still really enjoyed the story. It is a quick, easy entertaining read.
I love all the books by Sharon Hamilton and would highly recommend her books.
I thought it was interesting the way Morgan seemed to lose control when it came to Halley. I didn’t expect that complete lack of control with him being a SEAL. But, he seemed to be on the edge of losing control throughout the book, when he wasn’t actually losing control.
It seemed like Halley had the ability to be Morgan’s soft place to land, to calm him down. Which was surprising, considering she was his ex-wife, and they both seemed so bitter. Also, considering how, after years of being apart, their first meeting was so combustible.
I was confused about the story of Halley being in danger. Maybe I missed something. I’m not sure if it was just because she was high profile and having these seminars on empowering women, or because of who she was dating, or if her assistant and her driver involved? They were a few things that didn’t tie together smoothly for me. I wondered what the point was of certain aspects being added to the tale. There seemed to be a number of facts in the story that there wasn’t enough detail about it didn’t make much sense being there.
An ok second chance romance with a storyline that starts out to be intriguing and eventually comes to a positive conclusion with a HEA.
The Sleeper SEALs stories are part of a group of books written by talented authors, each story a stand alone. What unifies the stories is that the series is based on a group of retired Navy SEALs recruited by the government to work solo dark/black ops missions. The common thread is their commander, Greg Lambert.
In this one, the retired SEAL is Morgan Hansen, and his mission is to protect his ex-wife, Halley Hansen, whom he hasn’t seen in 10 years. There is intel of a possible terrorist attack not only to her, but to hundreds of women attending one of her empowering seminars.
At first, neither of these characters seemed likable. Morgan appears to be an alcoholic, living an aimless lifestyle and whose only interest is his “Bachelor SEAL” group of friends. Hailey is a bit too prickly for my liking and her “empowering” personality was a tad extreme at the expense of everything else. But somehow, they started to “grow” on me as their characters became less annoying and their “masks” started to come off.
The action, suspense, doubts on whom to trust, and the complexity of the relationship between Morgan and Halley, will keep your interesting going. What started as a 3 star rating, quickly moved to a 4 star . Not surprising when you have a book written by a talented author like Ms Hamilton.
