Jared Sherman has been coerced into spending six months of his life in the small Missouri town of Green River. His uncle wants to merge their businesses, but before the older man will talk business, he’s made it a pre-condition of the agreement that his nephew move to Green River.Jared, a big city sophisticate, is having trouble wrapping his mind around country living. He feels as if he’s traded … traded in his life in the fast line for a sojourn straight out of a rerun of the “Andy Griffith” show.
Except, Jared doesn’t remember an episode that had Sheriff Andy standing in the buff with only a flimsy pair of frilly curtains preserving what’s left of his dignity while being surrounded by the broken glass of his bedroom window.
Cue Amelia Greene.
“Call 911, and I’ll break your arm.”
She can understand him not wanting anyone else to see him in this bizarre situation, but his tone is unacceptable.
Being the good neighbor that she is, and because it was her younger brother whose baseball smashed through Jared’s window, Amelia helps Jared free himself from the shards of glass essentially holding him hostage.
Jared Sherman is a man who’s counting the hours until he can escape the confines of country living. Another countdown is underway, however.
He’s counting down the next time he can steal another sweet kiss from a woman who’s so devious he can’t figure out how she manages to be so darned seductive. Maybe by wearing her flaming hair in a bun, going about in long-sleeve blouses, and forgoing expensive perfumes, she’s discovered a sure-fired way to entice even the most dyed-in-the-wool bachelor.
Who would have ever thought the natural look could inflame a man’s desires?
Good grief, she was literally the girl next door.
But, he was a man who had no intention of living in the boondocks, minus the docks.

Bachelor in the Boondocks by River Ames is an entertaining story about Jared, whose uncle insisted that he spend 6 months in a small town in Missouri for business reasons and because his uncle will be having surgery and needs Jared to be available during that time. Jared finds a place to live, which happens to be next door to Amelia, a single librarian. Their first meeting is comical and filled with an underlying sexual tension that will keep you interested throughout the book. The sexual tension is referred to and is more funny than steamy.
I enjoyed reading this small town story. The characters and plot were well developed. I received this book as a gift and I always review every book that I read. I recommend this one.
This is my first River Ames book and I really liked it – despite one critique. I loved getting to know Jared and Amelia and loved watching their story unfold. And although I also enjoyed getting to know most of the cast of characters in their small town, I could’ve done without the two milkmen and the very bizarre part they played. At some point early in the book, I stopped reading and skipped entire sections anytime those two appeared in the story. That being said, the author’s writing painted a lovely picture of the small town that made it such a huge part of the both Jared and Amelia’s story. The story had humor and romance that led to an HEA that was very unique and a beautiful surprise. I will read more by this author and highly recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was my 1st time reading anything by Ms. Ames and I really liked it. It was a great sweet small town romance. The characters were relatable and funny, they even reminded me of some of my family that live in a small country town! The pace of the story was just right and so was the level of romance!
This made me chuckle, several times. Sweet, clean romance story. Jared challenges Amelia and she’s definitely in need of being reminded that she waking-up and just coming out of the cocoon she has built around herself and her dreams. She’s so compassionate but I think she’s also stuck in a loop. Jared is bold, instantly attracted and very tempting. Very realistic story, it’s amazing how we give others the very advice we ourselves need, if we were only bold enough to take the risk, lol. Great couple with chemistry, great family & great community. I received a free copy but voluntarily reviewed.
Couldn’t put it down!
“I love this book. Read the first chapter and i’m hooked Now to just get the book so I can finish reading. Very spellbinding read.”
My favorite part of the whole story was the banter between the two main characters. It was quite funny at times and serious at other times.
Jared Sherman is such a complex character who is more at home in a big city until he helps his uncle out in a very small town and falls in love with the cute, redheaded librarian next door. He is not sure what to do about that fact.
Amelia Greene is what you would expect an old fashioned librarian to be, all prim and proper until she meets her new neighbor and she discovers she might be falling in love, except he is not staying in Green River. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Big city boy jared Sherman has been summoned to small town Green River, Missouri, by his uncle. His uncle is wanting to merge their businesses with the full intent that Jared is to take charge of it all.
Meanwhile, Amelia is outside hanging up laundry and then helping her younger brother get the hang of playing baseball. An errant ball goes through a window of the house next door, coincidentally where Jared Sherman has taken up residence.
Later that day, Amelia has a meeting with Angus Sherman to discuss the possibility of Sherman Enterprises backing the finances for building a new town library. Amelia is surprised to discover her new neighbor is Mr Sherman’s nephew and Mr Sherman has decided that his nephew will be handling the meeting.
A friendship is formed over the following months, which blossoms to a sweet romance. But Amelia is uncertain of their newly formed relationship as she knows that Jared wants to return to his big city life.
This was a fun read. The characters are well formed and the author has a keen way of writing detail that makes one feel as though they are there in the story watching it unfold (but not in a creepy way!) This is a first book for this author that I have read and I am definitely looking forward to reading more of her work.
