What is The Bachelors Club? It’s a gentleman’s club—like the dignified men of the past used to have. Except, we’re not gentleman, and we’re not dignified. We’re ineligible bachelors, bored, jaded and not looking for relationships. Quite the opposite actually. So committed to being single, we’ve created a high stakes bet to see who can remain single the longest… co-habitating in a shared work space shouldn’t be a big deal. It shouldn’t be distracting. But Spencer Standish saw me puking in a company trash can, and won’t let me live it down. Cheerful, aggravating Spencer, who wants me to fetch her coffee.
As if she’s the boss of me.
And now I’m stuck sharing her office.
Let’s face facts: I can’t be in a relationship; not when there’s a bet to win—not with Spencer, who loves my uncontrollable basset hound, lazy Sundays, and grilled cheese as much as I do. I refuse to fall for her.
I will be the last Bachelor standing.

I knew I was in for a treat when I found myself belly laughing through the first chapter. While romcoms are, in general, hit-or-miss for me, Sara Ney definitely knows how to deliver the humor. There’s something so authentic in the way some of these scenes are written and for me, I think that’s the real charm in these books.
Spencer and Phillip were so much fun to read. They had a sort of offbeat chemistry that didn’t really offer a whole lot of depth, but was still highly entertaining to read. The pacing of the story is very fast – so I maybe felt like it was a little difficult to really invest myself in their story, but I felt a sort of distant appreciation for the cuteness of it all.
And it was cute. Phillip was adorable in this sort of clueless, sweet way. Spencer was playful and quirky. Their banter was a complete riot to read and I really did enjoy this book so much. Even Humphrey – who I wasn’t expecting to actually like – was irresistible to me. If you’ve ever known a basset hound, you’ll appreciate the authenticity with which Humphrey was written.
In all – I enjoyed this a lot. It was a quick, fun, swoony escape and I cannot wait to see where things go from here!
The banter between Spenser and Phillip was hilariously epic and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more. The ease with the way these two got under each other’s skin was super funny. One embarrassing moment and then them having to share a office was the perfect combo.
Sara Ney is the best at lighthearted and witty banter. This is easy and funny read is just what I needed. Bachelor Boss is the second book of the series. Spencer and Phillip are just too cute, and the characters’ interactions will leave a smile on your face. I know with any Sara Ney book, I can count on real-life situations that make you laugh out loud. I read the book in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down.
This is the first book I have read by Sara Ney ,so I really wasn’t quite sure what to expect.
Honestly it did take me a couple or chapters or so to get into, but I think that was just me adjusting to Sara’s writing style .Because once I got into the flow I really enjoyed it, the banter between Spencer and Phillip as they shared an office together was clever and so witty and incredibly funny.
This book entertained me throughout and both characters amused me as they both pushed eachothers buttons . Phillip being so determined to remain single so he can win a bet with his buddies and Spencer trying to break down his walls and discover why he is so determined.
The attraction between them is instant, but they can’t stop themselves from irritating eachother..its a charming read and I Loved it and didnt stop smiling until the end.
I will definately try Sara’s other books after reading this.
This is the second book in The Bachelors Club series and it’s Phillips turn to try and keep to the rules.
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the constant bickering between Phillip and Spencer. They just can’t resist poking the other until they get some sort of reaction and while they’re doing that the chemistry between them is getting harder to ignore.
This is a fun, light hearted story and I can’t wait for the next book.
This was a fun, lightweight read.
“As much as I hate to admit it, Spencer is a sweet girl who means well, and for all the bickering we do…it kind of turns me on, too?”
Phillip McGuire and Spencer Standish rub each other up the wrong way from the moment they meet. Unfortunately, they also find out that they will be sharing an office for a week. They proceed to bicker day by day, as well as fight the growing chemistry and attraction between them. Especially Phillip, as he has a secret, as well as a lot to lose, if he gives in to his desire for Spencer.
This was an amusing read. Phillip and Spencer were a hoot together. Mischievous, cheeky and annoying! LOL Phillip was kinda sweet in his awkwardness in dealing with Spencer, and she was cute in her attraction to him. They were like a couple of teenagers with a first crush. Pretty adorable. LOL And, Humphrey the Basset Hound was the icing on the cake.
Office romance, they are hit and miss for me because I’ve never been part of the corporate culture. Office love is like a billionaire romance or Chicago pizza; I often miss the nuance. That said, I’m perfectly capable of appreciating a finely crafted man.
Phillip McGuire is hilarious and adorable; a total book boyfriend babe in need of his ‘The One.’ What he encounters is a snickering virago who just watched him do a duet chunder in the nearest company wastebasket with the co-worker that is a right PITA about his comings and going.
One of my favorite things about Sara Ney is she is a marvel with push and pull. She writes it like she was born with the gene–if there is a gene for it. Cecelia and Matthew in He Kissed Me First blew me away when the book came out, and I was a Ney-crack addict waiting for her next book to come out after reading it.
Her How to Date a Douchebag books are full of the same yummy back and forth bickering, and Bachelor Boss is golden with some of her best comebacks and snide insults. BUT, Spencer feels mean-spirited at times, and it hurts my heart because I’m in love with Phillip, and I want to wear his blue velvet jacket. That is definitely a personal problem of mine, not at all something about which Phillip, Spencer, or Sara need worry. –Moving on.
I did feel that the heroine was someone I didn’t always like. I liked all the parts that made up Spencer Standish but not the whole character, and definitely not her portrayals in many parts. I think Sara anticipated this because she has a part written where Spencer talks about being someone who is unliked when she is younger because she has a strong personality. Which, kudos for baking that into your character, but she’s flavored to strongly for me, and that saddens me because I wanted to devour this book like I did with Oz and Jameson in The Studying Hours.
But the real hero is Humphrey, and you should read this book for the same reason I go to the park–for the dog.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.
The Studying Hours
He Kissed Me First (Kiss and Make Up, #2)
Spencer and Phillip have a unique relationship. Their banter and back and forth antics were hilarious, and they way they first met is something I won’t forget anytime soon.
These two are meant for each other and you can see the chemistry build between them after each page. I even loved the dog Humphrey. He was such a stubborn pet which made for some pretty interesting scenes.
This fun, fast paced book was such a good read. I just wish there was more. I felt like most of the story took place in the office and some things became repetitive. They honestly didn’t do much and then the story was over.
I can’t wait to get more of this series. I need to know how this club ends!
– An Arc was generously provided in exchange for an honest review.-
“Bachelor Boss” Book 2 of Sara Ney’s The Bachelor’s Club is a sweet, sweet romance read. Phillip is a dog loving, average Joe and his peculiar habits will have you on the floor laughing. He is utterly ridiculous in an adorable way. Spencer is equally charming in her unique way. She too, will have you giggling at her antics and internal dialogues. You will thoroughly enjoy reading how these two fall head over heels for one another. “Bachelor Boss” is a delicious slow burn romance. TBR and enjoy.
Overall Grade: 1/2
So. I hadn’t read the first book of Sara Ney’s The Bachelor’s Club series prior to signing up for the ARC of Bachelor Boss. The first book, Bachelor Society, was legitimately burning a hole in my Kindle while I was reading other ARCs. Why? Because I had read Ney’s How to Date a Douchebag series and learned quickly that I loved her construction of heroes. She has this way of writing douchebag-heroes who you can’t help but love and hate. At the beginning of her rom-coms, you can barely stand her heroes: they are quite frankly, sometimes, dim-witted, narrow-minded, playboys. In the world of romance, these are some of THE best heroes because they will meet a heroine who will “rock their world.” One minute, you find them ogling anything with boobs and a skirt (or short-shorts), and the next minute, Ney’s heroes are falling down the deep path towards everlasting love. What Ney does brilliantly is craft this journey in such a way that her heroes rarely recognize it until it hits them square in their head. For this reader, there is NOTHING like a “redemption” arc, or at least Romancelandia’s equivalent to it. And “this redemption” brings energy to her stories as they inhabit any of the various romance tropes: brother’s best friend, enemies-to-lovers, workplace romance, etc. Ney’s newest book, the second book of the series, Bachelor Boss, is no different.
Now, I will say that I actually like Phillip, the hero, more than her hero in Bachelor Society. Going into the book, and knowing a little bit about Phillip, I thought there would be more of the same bully-ish way about him, much like Brooks had been. However, that isn’t the case. I mean, he’s a bit dense (like Brooks), a bit of a player (also like Brooks), and slow to understand his feelings (just like Brooks). All of these traits conspire to put you, the reader, at arm’s length. Yet, as Phillip meets Spencer, the heroine and his office mate, her irreverent way of pushing his buttons begins to unravel him. In his unraveling (which is Ney’s specialty), we glimpse someone who actually has a depth of character that seemed non-existent in Ney’s first hero of this series. Phillip reads a bit more sensitive once you move past his douchebag exterior. While he fights settling down, in the back of his mind, he wants to find The One, settle down, and have children. Eventually. With that layer, Ney shows us that Phillip has a depth to him, and redemption is inevitable if he finds the woman who can love him fully, which, of course, Ney creates most splendidly.
While Ney is a genius at writing these heroes who you love to cringe at, she also has this ability to devise her heroines. First of all, while her heroines are beautiful, there is a sense that they are “any girl.” They tend to have normal bodies, and they are incredibly quirky. You know that it takes just the right guy to love Ney’s flavor of heroine. Each of her heroines is self-possessed: they know who they are and they don’t bemoan their eccentricities. They are simply “who they are.” Spencer is Ney’s heroine in Bachelor Boss, and she is the “zing” to Phillips’s “zest.” She is the only woman who can admonish him, challenge him, and fall for him. While he is a “numbers guy” focused on business, Spencer is his artistic complement. Where she’s creative, he is constructive. As such, this creates a fire of chemistry, some compelling banter, and a romantic journey that engages the reader to the very last page. Spencer can only be the partner for Phillip. Once both of them realize this, the happy ending is right around the corner, and it’s a perfect one.
There is one added touch to this series: pets. In Bachelor Society, Abbott’s cat provided some additional hilarity in the story. In fact, Ney gives these pets their own points of view. While this can sometimes break the chronology and force of her storytelling, it offers a respite too. You can chuckle at Desdemona’s perspective, as s/he observes her owner and love interest. For Bachelor Boss, we gain the perspective of Phillip’s dog, Humphrey. Like Desdemona, Humphrey has his own agenda. He wants what he wants when he wants it, and it sometimes wreaks havoc in the life of his owner and, by extension, his love interest. Like Desi in the first book of the series, Humphrey has his own chapters where we “see” through his perspective Phillip and Spencer’s burgeoning relationship. Those chapters are really more focused on Humphrey getting his needs met in his way, but it also provides a different perspective, one that makes you chuckle. I think incorporating these voices into her story adds another level of humor as it points us to what we, as pet owners, often believe our pets to be thinking. It also pushes us back a bit from the journey of her hero and heroine offering an insight that might not be found in other romances.
What Sara Ney does well in all of her rom-coms is make us laugh. Her books show us that anyone can find love. That love can bring the most dedicated playboy to his knees if it’s with the right woman. It’s the reason I keep reading her books. Just like her newest book, Bachelor Boss, I can laugh away the cares of my day at the lengths her heroes will go to remain single even as they pine for the heroine. That her heroines hold that depth of power in her romances is another added bonus. If you haven’t read Sara Ney before, you should read this series: Bachelor Society and Bachelor Boss. It’s a perfect read during this imperfect time.
This is my first read from this author and I am so happy I picked this story up. It is so freaking funny! Lighthearted and a fast read, it really added to my day. I liked the main characters and how the author gave them such fun and interesting personalities. The plot was good as well. I laughed from the first page all the way to the end, and what a fun HEA that is! I now need to go back and read book one. I received an ARC and am leaving an honest review.
Bachelor Boss by Sara Ney takes us back to her Bachelor Club world with determined bachelors, or so they think. This time around we get Phillip’s story (and his adorable dog). Phillip finds himself sharing space at work with Spencer and he is not amused. They went back and forth quite a bit, and had me smiling, but is there more underneath all that for them? They seem to be opposites, as she is quirky and fun to his serious nature. But you know what they say about opposites! The story was a light and fun slow burn romance and I enjoyed the witty banter between Phillip and Spencer. Looking forward to the next book!
Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
This was a fun quick read that will make you smile. I am a huge fan of Sara Ney and the way she writes a book. I love office romances with a slow burn and this one hit the spot.
Phillip and Spencer are sharing an office not by choice. The office is going through a remodel and putting more than one employee in an office at time. These two don’t have the best first encounter in the office break room. After she warns Phillip not to eat spoiled cream cheese, he does it anyways. Spencer got the pleasure of watching him get sick in a trashcan after taking one bite, after that they haven’t gotten along. These two have an attraction towards each other but are so consumed with hating each other. I loved their banter.
This slow burn romance was just what I needed. I devoured this book in one sitting. Bachelor Boss had me laughing and pulling for these two to finally embrace the chemistry they have. I am enjoying this series.
A fun and easy to read office romance.
“Bastard Bachelor Society. What is it exactly? It’s a gentlemen’s club of sorts, like the dignified men of the past used to have—except we’re not gentlemen, and we’re not dignified.”
A quick, sexy, quirky, sweet read!
Spencer and Phillip’s back and forth was hilarious. I caught myself smiling throughout the whole book.
I loved Spencer’s ‘Take No Crap’ attitude she has towards life. She is relentless and quirky.
Phillip is a little geeky and a lot swoony. He definitely was not expecting a girl like Spencer.
I felt this story was a little lacking in the romance department. But it is a light, sweet read and I absolutely ADORED Humphrey!
GETTING BOSSED BY PHILLIP!!
Bachelor Boss is the second in ‘The Bachelors Club’ series by Sara Ney. It’s a fun, snarky, laugh out loud read with a few swoony moments thrown in for good measure. We first met Phillip in book 1 (Bachelor Society) along with his two best friends, Brooks and Blaine. These three made a pact, started a Club and then one after another, Brooks, now Phillip, they proceeded to find the girl of their dreams.
Quite the opposite of what their whole Club entails, in fact.
Phillip and Spencer’s meet-cute was on a whole other level when it came to first impressions.
But, even though it didn’t end well… for Phillip at least, it didn’t stop them from seeing something in the other person.
Thrown together in the same office space for four days is all it takes and it’s fun to watch, self-confessed bachelor Phillip fall.
Spencer was smart, sassy and just the girl he needed. A truly light-hearted story for these trying days. Well worth a read.
A hilarious, sarcasm fueled, enemies to lovers, office romance! Bachelor Boss had me literally LOL’ing 95% of the time. I don’t think anyone out there does sarcastic humor as well as Sara Ney. When I wasn’t laughing like a lunatic thanks to fantastic banter and Humphrey, the world’s sassiest basset hound, I was swooning over the explosive chemistry that Spencer and Phillip had.
Even when these two were fighting you felt the heat between them and knew it was just a matter of time until all that tension took a different direction from arguing. Much like every book I’ve ever read from Sara Ney I was left with a giant grin on my face and a happy heart by the time I reached the end.
Bachelor Boss by Sara Ney was a cute and adorable office romance with some seriously amazing laugh out loud moments. The characters are sweet and quirky with different personalities. They have an easy chemistry that peaks up on heat factor very slowly. And Humphrey is my favourite. Who is he? You have to read to know him!
Phillips is workaholic and the only source of relaxation in his life is his infuriating dog. He is in race to win a bet against his friends belonging to their own private club Bachelors Bastard Society. He is a bit grumpy and bossy and stern. And he is not ready for Spencer. The quirky girl. His officemate for four days while renovation is going on in his office. Will he lose the bet?
Spencer is just a sweetheart. She is sassy. She is adorable with her non stop mouth, her weird way of doing things, her smartness, her tendency to be nosey in best possible way and her golden heart. She is just hilarious. And she broke Phillips’ rough exterior down after lots of effort. They have constant witty banter going on that ranges from downright insulting to oddly amusing. They have some cutest moments together. The only problem is the chemistry took a bit too long to develop. Like they spent a lot of time in friendzone and suddenly they admit their undying love and in the very next moment we have the ending. The steam factor was not there as expected.
Sara Ney has written an entertaining and funny love story in Bachelor Boss. Phillips and Spencer made a beautiful couple!
Received ARC for honest review
NO SPOILERS!
Sara Ney has another hilarious and entertaining standalone romantic comedy on her hands with Bachelor Boss, and it was a fantastic addition to The Bachelors Club series!
The storyline and characters were awesome. I loved the enemies-to-lovers/ office romance trope, and found the plot engaging and entertaining. Phillip and Spencer were wonderful, and I loved their personalities. The witty dialogue and banter between them provided tons of laughs, and I also loved Phillip’s canine sidekick, Humphrey. I thoroughly enjoyed Phillip and Spencer’s story, and was pleased with the conclusion.
Bachelor Boss was another hilarious and entertaining hit from Sara Ney, and I can’t wait to read more romantic comedies from her!
Bachelor Boss is so much fun!!
From the beginning you just know this is a great book. When Spencer and Phillip meet the chemistry is there and so is the awkward comedy of the situation. All of the conversations they have are great. Their funny banter back and forth is hilarious. This was a laugh out loud and fun book to read. Philip’s Bassett hound Humphrey is pretty awesome as well. Pick up this book and you won’t be able to put it down.
