Dexter life really changed when his friend Amanda got married bring him back to his hometown were he reconnected with Matthew.
He’d personally been glad to see the back of all there issues that had been tough enough the first time around.
But now he was in a committed relationship with the love of his life.
After speaking with Matthew’s Mom he’d booked their flight, and even packed their things so now all he could do was wait.
The last thing Matthew expected to see was his husband sitting on the bed surrounded by suit-cases and my heart about hit the floor.
Dexter quickly hugged me telling him I’m not leaving, but I do have something to tell you.
Matthew was trying to process the fact his sister and brother-in-law were dead and there was a little girl who lost them too.
Amanda and Alex had made them the guardian of his niece Lilabeth so now their lives were going to change.
It didn’t take Dexter long to find him sitting there drinking miserably by himself
instead of supporting his wife he couldn’t see passed his own narrow minded bigotry.

Dexter arrives home before his husband and listens to the massages until one stops him in his tracks.
Dexter and his husband Matthew were planning to spend some quiet time together and arriving home with that in mind he set about answering all the messages on the phone but when he gets to one from Matthew’s mother Jenna seeming in a panic and asking for them to call back. When he calls he finds out that Matthew’s sister Amanda and her husband Alex have been killed by a drunk driver on the way to pick up their daughter Lilabeth. He arranges for flights and a car then packs a bag for each of them realizing Matthew will be in no state to sort things out. While waiting for Matthew he start to list thing that will need to change as when they return Lilabeth will be with them as they had agreed to be named her guardians. When the smiling Matthew comes in he realizes something is wrong by the look on Dexter’s face.

Fantastic! But still crying. Dexter did all shopping intending to give Matthew the weekend he deserved by absolutely spoiling and doting on him. Dexter was happily collecting the backed up messages when he got, the one. Amanda and Alex were in an accident. Lilabeth was okay, she was in daycare. How do you tell the man you love that part of his family is no more? Dexter went into supportive proactive mode and prepared for their departure with the open luggage on the beds. Matthew’s first reaction, may speak to unpacked baggage between them. Do they open up? Can they be strong for each other? Can they be strong for Jenna? How is Matthew’s Dad? Most parents have 9 months, how do you handle one day? Lovingly handled story. Matthew and Dexter are amazing. Well done! I received an ARC ftom Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Sweet cover art.
This followup story with Matthew and Dexter was sad but it also had some elements of forgiveness. You see the love between Dexter and Matthew is still strong as ever. Dealing with the grief of death the guys lean on each other. It was lovely to see Matthew’s dad coming to his senses somewhat and Matthew ability to forgive. The story was bittersweet but lovely. I enjoyed the continuation of the guys story.

This story, Baby Makes Three, by Carrie Davis made me cry – first with sorrow and anger then with happiness. The author really knows how to write scenes that has your heart clench with such strong emotions.

I am so glad we get more of Dex and Matthew but I really hate that we lost Alex and Amanda in this book. I love how much Matthew has grown up in the last 3 years and that Dex and Matthew are happily married. With the lost of Amanda, Dex and Matthew are back in their hometown helping Matthew’s mother (who finally grew a backbone) with the funeral as well as being the new guardians to Amanda and Alex’s daughter. There is drama with Matthew’s father but thanks to Dexter protecting his man, things may be on the mind. I love how Dex and Matthew lean on each other and believe that as long as they have each other, they can get through anything. I really hope that we get more of this story. I highly recommend this short continuation book!
