Rejection hurts.
Moving on is hard.
Harper Hayes. James Tanner. Both have suffered loss. Both have grown to see the world through their loss… and insecurities.
All Harper has known is rejection… rejection by another who abandoned her, rejection by her high society grandmother and rejection from a dad who died when she was a baby leaving a trust fund to be controlled by his mother, Harper’s grandmother. In other words, Harper will never benefit from her dad’s bequest because she never will fit into her grandmothers posh and pretentious world.
James’ childhood was great. He had a loving family, wonderful friends, a great education and married his soul mate. Everything was perfect …. until it wasn’t. His wife and young son were in a fatal car accident. James’ world stopped. He quit living life, focused only on his work. As a surgeon he could save lives and escape the outside world.
Both Harper and James were aloof to moving on, to dating, to relationships. It was a way of protecting themselves from future hurt and damage. However, one fateful night brought them together in a way that would completely change life as they know it.
As you turn the pages, you’ll have questions. You’ll ask WHY. You’ll feel their pain. However, you also will laugh, you’ll admire them and how they cope and grow through their struggles. You’ll root them on and hope for that happy ever after. But, the choice is theirs. Harper has to let go of her insecurities while James has to see that life is not about loss.
WISHES:
Hope to see in other Angel Sands books more about Harper, her grandmother and mother. Grandma needs a comeuppance. She needs to see how successful Harper is without her and her posh societal ways. And I suspect Harper’s mother has her own story to tell which I’m sure is sad. But, she needs to really see who she is and has become and how, no thanks to her, Harper is happy and successful. Both grandma and mother need to really, really see their own failures, especially to Harper… and yes, even to Harper’s dad. Neither seemed to honor his memory.
Love to see more into James’ and Harper’s future …. especially of Harper’s business endeavors. LOL, I’m betting grandma could really get her comeuppance here. Seeing her self-made granddaughter’s success along with how happy she is with James, Alyssa and friends …. her true family.

What a lovely, well written story this one was; I loved it! It’s sweet, funny and gives you all those warm fuzzy feelings you want from a good romance. Carrie Elks writes a fabulous story; once you have picked it up and you won’t want to put it down.
The characters are perfect; I just adored Harper. She was funny, self sufficient and a strong woman, even if she doesn’t always realise it. I loved the way she dealt with setbacks and despite everything got on with life and made the most of it.
James Tanner, well doesn’t he have it all: a sad back story, rugged good looks, doctor, kind and such a warm heart. I wanted nothing but good things for him.
I think this is my favourite of the Angel Sands series, but then I have loved them all so it’s hard to tell. It had me smiling a lot and crying quite a bit too, definitely one that you should get ASAP.
James was a man still mourning the death of his wife and child. He wasn’t looking for a relationship but Harper caught his attention and all it took was one night to change their lives. Now she is in the family way and James is a broken man who doesn’t know how to proceed. Their path to a happily ever after is not an easy one but it is a story that will touch your heart and have you cheering for James and Harper until the very end.
