Jill Garrison, a maintenance tech at the Sectors Amarcae 7 colony, goes to sleep one night as usual only to wake up in her nightgown stranded in the middle of a forest on an unknown world. There’s no time to think as she’s stalked by carnivorous predators and rescued by genetically engineered warriors calling themselves the Badari. Turns out they and she, along with her whole colony, are now … prisoners of the Khagrish, a ruthless race of alien scientists. Working for enemies of the Sectors, the Khagrish have created the Badari to be super soldiers.
Aydarr, the Badari alpha, isn’t sure he can trust Jill but his attraction to her is undeniable. He impulsively claims her as his mate to prevent her death at the hands of the Khagrish.
Can he continue to protect her from the experiments already underway? Will his claiming her put his pack in jeopardy from their alien masters?
As Jill searches for a way to rescue her fellow humans and get them all to safety, she finds herself falling for Aydarr, despite the secrets he’s keeping. She has a few of her own.
The situation becomes dire when Aydarr and his pack are sent offplanet on a mission, leaving Jill unprotected, prey for the senior scientist. Can she escape the experiments he has in mind for her? Will she be able to thwart the Khagrish plans and liberate humans and Badari alike? How will she and Aydarr reunite?
This is the first book in a new scifi romance series and each novel has a satisfying Happy for Now ending for the hero and heroine, not a cliffhanger. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is a series but romance always wins the day in my novels!

Loved Aydarr and Jill. Interesting world building. Great start to the series.
This is the first of a new series by Veronica Scott! It’s a great start, with lots of thrills, chills, and romance!
Tech Sergeant Jill Garrison wakes up on her own in a pink satin negligee in ‘the Preserve,’ an experimental testing ground for an alien race known as the Khagrish. She’s a fighter by nature, but even a strong women appreciates a helping hand when trapped by two vermores interested in feeding her to their poisonous nestlings.
It doesn’t hurt that Aydarr, the alpha of a pack of genetically-engineered super soldiers is kind to her and built like…well, as you’d imagine a genetically-engineered super soldier would be.
Her odds of staying alive certainly appear better as Adyarr’s mate and part of the pack, but they are all prisoners. With the help of a 10,000 year-old A.I. named MARL, Jill must find out what happened to her sisters and the other human colonists who were taken, and help Aydarr’s Badari warriors in their competition to survive the winnowing of their genetic line the Khagrish have planned.
Fans of Veronica Scott know that no matter how harrowing the danger or despicable the villains, there will be an HEA. For the Badari Warriors, Ms. Scott has amped the despicable and harrowing with the dark side of alien abduction, as in it’s time to experiment on the captives. Although nothing super gruesome happens on page, knowing that it has and can, makes former special forces tech Jill’s battle for survival page turning. Aydarr is everything I love in an alpha; strong, dangerous, protective, and if a bit clueless, willing to learn. The sadistic pseudo-scientists they combine forces to escape deserve everything that happens to them. That escape hinges on a bit of miraculous ancient technology is a bit of an eyebrow raiser, but MARL-the-AI’s character is so entertaining, it enhanced the narrative.
