The NHL’s been at my door since I was 18.But I’d never leave the Swedish Hockey League—Not while raising my little brother. But now he’s grown and the Carolina Reapers show up with my greatest weakness:Langley Pierce, their new head of PR. I’ve never been able to say no to her. She’s fierce, independent, and the sexiest woman I’ve ever met.She also has a stubborn streak wider than my entire country. streak wider than my entire country.
One comment from her smart mouth about never dating again, and I propose.
No, really, I actually propose:
A six-month marriage contract in exchange for signing with the Reapers.
I want to date this woman so badly that I’m going to marry her first.
I’ll use each day to show her how a queen should be treated.
Our wedding day started a countdown I’m powerless to stop,
And the faster the months fly, the harder I fall.
She’s sworn she’ll never choose a man over her career,
And I promised never to ask her to.
Until I’m forced to.
How can we move forward when we started this whole thing backwards?
If I can’t convince her this marriage is anything but fake—
The next document we sign will crush us both.
Welcome to the Carolina Reapers, Samantha Whiskey’s newest hockey series where the chill of the ice meets sultry southern nights.

I received a free copy of this book however all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own, and given completely voluntarily.
This is another brilliant piece of writing from Samantha. I must admit to being a little heartbroken when the Seattle Sharks series ended, but the Vancouver Wolves i feel will fill the space! This follows Axel (OMG – id lick that man like a lollipop! ) and Langley, and I’m so glad they’ve got they’re own story at last, who could forget their chemistry from Sweden? The only thing I will warn is – once you start you won’t want to put it down!
Love – love – love Axel. I was waiting for this one. The tender way he takes care of Langley; he respects her, her drive, her work ethic. Until the lines get blurred and he needs her to choose him. I understood his frustraiton. My heart broke when she was too stubborn to see. This story was everytinhg you come to expect from Samantha. The heat in this book was *chefs kisses good. He is one of my favorites now. Keep the hockey men coming.
Loved Axel by Samantha Whiskey!

“Unless that’s a contract for your hand in marriage, I’m not interested…”
Two words …freaking amazing!!! A beautiful story, sweet moments and amazing characters, I quickly fell in love with them; a strong sports player decide to conquer and an independent woman who knows what she wants in life. Another fabulous sports romance series that just stole another part of my heart!!
Axel Nyström. Sweden, charming, sweet, alpha, one of the best players in hockey…do I need to say more?? He wants her, really bad; he is determined to show her that love is for her and he’s not letting her go, but there’s only one way she can ever give him a chance…a marriage deal. Langley Pierce is the NHL publicist for the Carolina Reapers, her work is everything, life showed her that love is not always pure, but now the hot Viking is making her a deal she cant refuse, she needs to get him to sign with the Reapers, but the deal he’s making with her goes far beyond the ice.
Easy, fun and light…this are the kind of books you want to take with you wherever you go!!!
A deliciously sweet, endearing, heartfelt, and romantic journey to go in with Langley and Alex. I absolutely adored this book.
Such a great read! The chemistry was so hot! Langley is such a strong independent woman that it was going to take an equally strong man & in some ways stronger in being able to get through to her. Axel is sexy, strong & his devotion is wow. I was someone just like Axel in my life. He is larger than life, charming & seems so unapproachable, but is a big teddy bear underneath it all. A wonderful couple. I recommend this book. Told in dual POV.
Langley Pierce is one of few women who have managed to find success in the front offices of a NHL team, and she has worked her tail off to earn that success, some may say she is married to her job. But she loves what she does, even if it’s kept her from being happy in the love department. With her job comes great responsibility, and the men she’s dated have never been able to handle the fact that her job comes first for her… or maybe it’s just that she hasn’t met a man worthy of sharing her time and attention!
But that is all about to change, her newest client is about to make her a deal that she can’t refuse…six months of marriage and he will sign a contract with the team. What she doesn’t know is that hulking Viking hockey player has ulterior motives… ones that may just inspire her to make room in her life for a little love!
Between the pages of Axel you will meet a couple that is a little timid of love, both being burnt by it in the past, but both desperately craving it. Langley is convinced she doesn’t have room in her busy life for love, but after watching all her friends find it she feels a little jealous. The last man she gave her heart to broke it into a million pieces, and the idea of handing it over to Axel is unnerving to say the least. Axel knows that his heart was meant to belong to Langley, but convincing her of that fact has him more than a little nervous about baring his soul to her. As soon as I met Axel I knew my heart was in trouble, he was a beast on the ice, and gentle giant off… one with impeccable heart-stealing skills. This was such a beautiful story, showing us how love came come into your life in even the most unconventional ways, all you have to do is be brave enough to let it in. I have loved all of Ms. Whiskey’s stories, but this one is by far my new favorite, the journey these two took me on was unforgettable and soul penetrating! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
What do I like about this story… there is a gorgeous viking, a kickass heroine, trials and tribulations that they both learn from and it is steamy. I am definitely reading more of these NHL inspired novels.
The Carolina Reapers is a new spin off series based on the very successful and titillating Seattle Sharks series featuring a professional hockey team. It is written by hockey guru and writer extraordinaire Samantha Whiskey.
We first met the heroine and heroine, Axel and Langley in the Seattle Sharks series, and I couldn’t wait to read their story. I happen to do public relations for a living so I always enjoy when the career is featured in a book and Samantha nailed it. Langley is talented, dedicated, and a real-life fixer for the players and management of her new team, the South Carolina Reapers. As public relations director, she is one of only a few women in this position in professional sports and I really admired her skill set and the respect she had earned.
A year ago in the book world, she went to Sweden on a business trip and first met Axel, the hero of this story. She was coming out of a long-term relationship and he was just what she needed. And I am not talking about S E X. He was a friend and confident, patient and understanding, made her laugh, and understood when she needed a shoulder to cry on. He was in awe of Langley and did everything he could to build her up with not just his words, but with his actions. She was fierce, sarcastic, and at times, a bit too stubborn for her own good. But none of us are perfect and we often act a certain way to guard our bruised hearts and ego, and Langley was no exception.
Axel, the namesake of this book, was a hero in every way. A 6’4” Nordic hottie with a giant selfless heart, raised his younger brother, Tage. Axel was not materialistic, was a talented professional athlete in his home country of Sweden, all while remaining humble and non-materialistic. He was a loyal friend and not a player with the ladies. He only had eyes for our sweet heroine and negotiated a deal in order to get to know her better–she marries him for six months and he will uproot his life, move to the US, and play hockey for her new expansion team. (This tidbit is in the teaser ads so I am not giving away any spoilers.)
This book is about their coming together as husband and wife, and watching their relationship build slowly over time. She wanted to speed things up in the bedroom, but he wanted the real deal and for her to fall in love with him as deeply as he was with her before they could become intimate. Quite the switch! It broke my heart a bit how she was unsure and how they were both so vulnerable. They could have communicated better, which was a bit frustrating at times, but if they did the book would have been over much too quickly. I really did enjoy the character development and each time they were together, and routed for them the entire time.
My favorite scenes in the entire book were not their sexy alone times, although they were very steamy as their chemistry was insane, but the two times he was being interviewed by the press and his honest, direct, and emotional answers to the reporters’ questions. He shut them down and said the most absolute perfect, panty melting–I love and respect my wife, responses. I was so impressed and thought he could do no wrong. He showed her over and over again how he felt about her, and it was very emotional when she finally let down her guard and learned to trust what they had was real.
I loved how some of the former Shark players, including his best friend Lukas from Sweden, and Gage McPherson, the former Shark’s team captain who is now the head coach of the Carolina Reapers, and their wives or girlfriends, made appearances in this new series. Please note that Axel can be read as a stand-alone as all of the characters are identified so it’s easy to follow. I can’t wait to read more of this new series! Axel is a must read!!
Omg I absolutely love Axel and he will absolutely make you swoon. Langley and Axel are absolutely perfect together and I couldn’t get enough of their story. Once you start reading you won’t want too stop. Another amazing read that everyone who loves a good hockey read must one click.
This was fabulous for my first ever book by this author, I will be coming back for more.
Axel is basically a Swedish hockey player, a very sought after one.
Axel was left as sole carer for his brother following his parent’s death, he takes family and his hockey seriously but now his brother is older and moving towards his own career Axel can now start thinking about himself after years of putting his brother first.
Langley is head of PR for an American hockey team that wants him.
They have met each other before, Axel’s childhood best friend plays for the same team Langley represents. After refusing to move no matter what figure they offer the club’s òwner send in the big guns in the firm of Langley as they know he likes her.
Axel more than likes her, he has wanted Langley since he first laid eyes on her at a function.
Axel agrees to go only if Langley will marry him.
Langley does come across as shallow, I mean who wouldn’t think that if a woman marries to help her career, she is very much a career-driven woman which may also give you the impression of her being cold but as the plot develops, as the chemistry begins to happen, this story turns out to quite swoon-worthy, heartwarming and hot!.
An enjoyable read, no spoilers to previous books in the series given and I’m looking forward to reading more from Samantha Whiskey.
Available in KU
Loved Axel and Langley surprised it took her so long to come around. Who wouldn’t want someone that focused on them with love and determination. Awesome hockey backdrop.
This is the first book of Samantha Whiskey’s new series and what a way to start. I loved this story from beginning to end and wanted to jump straight into book 2, which sadly isn’t yet available. Reading this book was like revisiting old friends and meeting new, but you certainly don’t need to have read the author’s Seattle Sharks series to fully enjoy this equally as hot team. I’m looking forward to seeing what’s in store from this team and author! If you love hockey and romance, then this is the book for you!
*I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book
If you like contemporary sports romance, this is one of them. I enjoyed reading Axel and Langley’s story. I’m looking forward to reading more on the team.
Loved Axel and Langley!!! Can’t wait for more of these Carolina Reapers.
I feel like I have been waiting forever for Axel’s book and it didn’t disappoint! Axel and Langley were just meant to be though it did take one of them longer to work that out! My favourite sharks are now reapers and always love glimpses into what they are up to. I can’t wait for the next one in the series! Would highly recommend reading this you won’t regret it. Samantha can’t write them quick enough for me!
A great hockey romance!
Axel met Langley a year earlier through his friend when they visited Sweden & instantly liked her. His chance with Langley presents itself unexpectedly when she goes to try to get him to sign with The Reapers & he goes all in. Axel knows what he wants and he takes his shot to win Langley over with a little arrangement. I love Axel! He is a good guy and Langley can’t help but slowly fall for him despite being committed to her job above all else. Langley had some issues to overcome but once she did and allowed herself to open her heart; Axel was right there with his big heart ready to move forward together.
Axel is book 1 in the Carolina Reapers. This book took me to the edge and back again and let me say my heart is still pounding in my chest and I have butterflies in my stomach, I have said this with the last 3 books from Samantha Whiskey but this one tops them all. Go on the journey with Axel and Langley as see how a story that was based on a 6 month contract turns into a beautiful love. Absolutely a 10 star read.
I am in LOVE, not puppy love, not a little school girl crush, I mean hearts in my eyes, sweaty palms, butterflies in my stomach type of love. Axel might be just a character to some, but this Swedish Viking owned my heart from the very first page. Axel and Langley’s story is one that will at times take you to the peak but then have you falling to the bottom. It is emotional, captivating and at times will have you edgy. This first book in the Carolina Reapers series will leave the next books with a hard act to follow. Axel will make you swoon and you will hurt for Langley at how hard it is for her to trust someone with her heart. So much more than just a hockey romance, it is intimate, sexy, passionate and at times heartbreaking. A story filled with so many emotions that your heart and soul will be on overload. At the end of this book one thing will be certain, Axel and Langley will be planted so far under your skin that there will be no letting them go.
This was the first book of the Carolina Reapers spin-off series and it was incredible!!! I absolutely loved Axel and Langley’s story. The chemistry between them was great and this is definitely my favorite couple so far! Axel was sexy and so sweet. Langley was driven but vulnerable. Seeing their relationship come together is not to be missed. I am really looking forward to more of this new series. It definitely had an incredible start!
