There’s more to me than just being awk-weird. I own my own flower shop, have some great friends, and I have my eye on adopting the most adorable kitten. But sadly, hot guys don’t tend to be blown away by my trivia-spouting, dorky self. So when a Thor-lookalike who happens to be a professional hockey player hits on me at my bestie’s wedding rehearsal party… You better believe I climbed that … climbed that tree like a cat. And the fact that it happened not once, not twice, but three times? Yeah, that’s pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a woman like me.
There’s zero chance I’ll end up ever seeing him again…right?
Until the pregnancy test comes up positive. What happens next?
Oh my God, I wish I knew…

After reading Parental Guidance I’ve been looking forward to the next Ice Knights book! I really enjoyed Awk-weird! It was such an awesome read that touched my heart and made me smile.
When it came to Tess and Cole I related to both of them. These two truly made me think and I felt everything that they did.
I loved how the deeper I got into the story the more Tess and Cole found their way into my heart. They were refreshing characters and I couldn’t get enough of their conversations!
With Awk-weird, Ms.Flynn shows how life can throw us curve balls that can lead to the most wonderful things. I can’t wait for the next Ice Knights book!
Awk-weird by Avery Flynn is book number two in the Ice Knights series. This is Ice Knights hockey player Cole Phillips and florist Tess Gardner’s story.
This was a hilarious read! Cole and Tess’ relationship starts off in an awk-weird way. The interactions between these two were so much fun and the chemistry was intense. This was one read that I couldn’t put down until I finished.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Awk-Weird is another goal shot for Avery Flynn! This one will have you laughing from the first chapter, and I highly suggest being careful what you eat or drink while reading. I’ve loved both books in the Ice Knights series, but this one is my favorite. I smile every time I see the cover, just remembering how much I laughed and even cried a little. This is a one-click for anyone that loves romantic comedies!
4.5 Stars
I love the Ice Knights series and this second book of the series was a great installment to the series. I just loved Tess to pieces. I love how she blurts of facts when she is nervous or uncomfortable. Her back story broke my heart, but it made me cheer for her to get her HEA she deserves. Cole has his routines for a reason, but when Tess comes into his life she’s going turn his world upside down with the dreaded word, change. Cole and Tess have great chemistry and you can feel it come off the pages. How could I not like Cole with how he is with Kahn. That’s swoon worthy material for me right there. I loved how Cole and Tess are like puzzle pieces that just fit so well together. Though for Tess everyone leaves eventually so why get attached too bad her heart and head aren’t on the same page. This is a must read! I love the camaraderie of Cole and his team mates. It just adds another layer to a great book. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
So glad Avery continued the Ice Knights series! After her traumatic and distant childhood, Tess has guarded herself as an adult by being awkward and as invisible as possible. The last to be single out of her group of friends, she is starting to feel lonely and a seventh wheel to the group. At the wedding of one of her friends, she meets Cole and while she’s extremely attracted to him, she focuses on putting no attention on herself. But as fate would have it, they end up competing together against the rest of the crew in trivia, which is her specialty, and they have an epic one-night stand. And as one-night stands go, Tess ends up pregnant. With Cole thinking he’s getting back together with his ex since they have been on and off for years and his reluctance to change, he resigns himself to being involved with Tess for the baby, but still plans to get his life back on track and to normal. But after Tess has some bad luck with her living situation and the pair are somewhat forced together at his home, she inserts herself into his way of life and changes him for the better. But with both of them being resistant to change and being vulnerable, it’s a question on if they will end up happily together. I continue to love Avery’s rom-com storylines and also love that being it’s part of a series we get to see our other favorites from books past and updates on them as well. Can’t wait for the next installment in this series!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Loved this story. I laughed and I cried. Tess and Cole are great.
Absolutely in love with this story, it was a perfect romcom that will keep you entertained right for the first page. Avery is fast becoming one of my go to authors for sweet, sexy and funny love stories that tug at your heart strings in a good way. Can’t wait to see what is in store for us in the next book. Highly recommend this book, a definite must read!!
This was my first book by Avery Flynn and she didn’t disappoint me. She gave me an entertaining tale mixed with amusing characters that had me highly amused throughout.
I loved Tess and Cole together, they were the perfect match, even if they didn’t want to admit it. The chemistry that sizzled between them was electric and beautiful to watch develop.
I loved Tess and her random facts, I learned quite a bit reading this. I so wanted to hug her with her fears of everything being temporary. Cole was perfect for her with his need for order and routine. With Tess and her kitten invading his space his world is going to be turned upside down for the better.
I am certainly looking forward to seeing what else Avery Flynn brings us in the future
This was fun!
This time we have Tess and Cole, who after a hot night together, end up being tied together for the rest of their lives, lol.
Anyway, I loved Tess, she was great and hardworking and fun and omg I wanted to hug her after that crappy childhood. And I could see why she felt like a burden by staying with Cole, and I hated it. I really wanted to make her see how awesome she was. I was glad her friends and Cole showed her that, little by little.
Cole was great too, he has his own issues, that somehow where somewhat similar to Tess’. They both needed to really work on their trust issue.
Together they were also super cute, although I wasn’t a fan of Cole’s thing with Marti. :-/
All in all, this was a fun and swoony read and a great addition to the series.
*Thank you to the author for providing a copy for which I’m giving my honest opinion*
What a funny, romantic and emotional story Avery Flynn created with Awk-Weird!
The story line was great and the characters were sensational! I couldn’t get enough of the quirkiness they both brought to the read. The word vomit facts were not only amusing but also quite educational! I laughed hard AND learned some stuff. Win/win!
I truly adored both Cole and Tess. They were nothing alike personality wise, but they fit together like peanut butter and jelly. You could gather just from their meet cute that they were destined for one another. Accidental pregnancy or not.
The whole “temporary” mentality that Tess was obsessed with absolutely broke my heart. She deserved so much more than she would allow! The blinding denial of her feelings and what she wanted made me wanna smack her upside the head mama style on more than one occasion during this book. It was clear as day how the MCs felt for one another but both had to screw it all up just to realize what they wanted/needed.
I was so happy with the way the book wrapped up. I cannot wait to get glimpses of these characters in the next Ice Knights book!
I’m not gonna lie, most of the time Avery is a hit or miss and I never really know which way it’s gonna go. So I read most of her books LOL because even when they’re a miss, they don’t miss out of the park. This was a hit!
If there’s one thing I know that Avery can do well is quirky. As soon as I saw this title, I was all in. I didn’t even need to read the synopsis LOL And it worked for both Cole and Tess! That’s the greatest part! We don’t ever think as jocks as being awk-weird but Cole totally was! And obviously I don’t have to tell you our little trivia superstar book nerd fit the bill as well! These two were fantastic!!
Tess has a lot of baggage. Baggage that doesn’t really allow her to trust that someone is going to love her enough to stay. I wouldn’t say that Cole comes into the picture with baggage, but boy does he come into it with some serious quirks(lol). They made a super funny couple and it was a joy to read all the shenanigans, especially Cole’s superstitious behaviors. And he has some serious one LOL, but that’s part of the world of any professional athlete, especial in hockey!
If you’re looking for a fun afternoon read, then one-click away, this one will not disappoint!
I love Avery Flynn and her books are some of the best!
I also love characters that march to the beat of their own drummer. They are not the perfect people, living in the perfect world doing perfect things!
Tess is beyond smart and can sometimes be socially inept. Her friends have moved on with their lives, and she is once again the girl left behind! Cole is OCD. Forever thinking things will all play out in a straight line. Well we all know life is not like that. It’s full of uncertainties and disarray.
Tess and Cole spent a great deal of time going back and forth, but outside of that it was cute, funny and just as quirky as the characters.
This book was the perfect romcom that kept me smiling while enjoying this book. Avery Flynn delivered a book that well written with characters you fall in love with.
Tess didn’t have the greatest upbringing and has issues she is working through. She is dealing with abandonment issues and doesn’t trust easy. Cole moved around a lot as a child because of his father’s job. He likes stability. These two are so sweet and Cole has to work to get Tess to trust him and realize he isn’t going anywhere.
I really enjoyed Awe-Weird and all the characters. If your looking for a fast paced sweet romcom this is the book for you.
Tess and Cole were the ultimate couple. Tess has her own shop but her past has left her with abandonment issues. Cole is a hockey player and is so patient with Tess my heart just melts. The two end up hooking up after a wedding. Things get awkward after Tess comes up pregnant. This is a sexy, funny, and heartwarming story that I recommend.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
Avery Flynn nailed it with Awk-weird! I love stories in which the characters are a little different than the norm and Cole and Tess both brought something special to the story. I enjoyed watching both characters grow throughout the story and get the happiness they deserve. I connected with each character in a different way and truly enjoyed their journey to HEA! Awk-weird had just the right amount of sexy, laughter and emotions that will make you fall in love with this book!
Hilariously adorable and full of heart Awk-Weird had me giggling and melting equally from practically the first page. I flew through the pages absolutely devouring Tess and Cole’s story the second I got my hands on it. I am not exaggerating when I say I couldn’t put this one down. I was entirely addicted to them.
If there’s such a thing as matching opposites that’s exactly what these two are. For all their differences they’re incredibly similar when it comes to their hearts. Between how cute they were and the chemistry that kept pulling them together like magnets even when they tried to resist there wasn’t a single moment with Tess and Cole I didn’t completely love.
After an amazing one night stand, one that happened the night before her friend’s wedding, Tess finds out she is pregnant. When she tells the baby daddy, Cole, he is on board 100% with helping her out, and the first stage of helping out is when he is pretty much coerced by his teammate to let Tess stay with him while her apartment is being worked on. Cole had always had a plan, and knew for sure his future would include his on and off girlfriend, but it isn’t until he spends more time with Tess that he realizes maybe the person that he thought was his forever, isn’t really. But for someone like Tess, trust isn’t earned easily. Ready to run at any moment, knowing that at any time Cole’s true love may come back and Tess will be on the sidelines once again, makes her not want anything more than temporary. Can Cole get Tess to realize that she is the one that he wants and get her to stop running?
This was a good story and I enjoyed it. Really good drama, ok naughty moments, and a bit of hockey make up this story. I give this 4 stars.
Filled with steamy laugh out loud moments! AWK-WEIRD is book two in Avery Flynn’s Ice Knights series and it’s utterly delightful! Think a sexy pro hockey player and a nerdy florist who can’t stop touting off trivia at the most awkward moments and add in an adorable kitten and you’ll know why you have to grab this book.
Tess is such an adorable character. She has that spouting trivia thing going for her, but overall she’s extremely smart and has a style all her own. She’s easy to like, she’s well developed and she’s just really fun to get to know.
Cole is a fun character. He brings a smile to a reader’s face easily, but he also had to be redeemed in our eyes because he kept one eye on the past he thought he was going to relive for a little too long for my liking.
Overall, it was lighthearted, funny and super sweet. I recommend it to anyone wanting a fast read filled with laughs and lots of heart. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series already!
3.5 stars. Awk-weird was a cute read! This is Tess and Cole’s story. Tess is a quirky, awkward, trivia-buff who owns a flower shop and who meets Cole at her good friend’s wedding. Cole is a pro hockey player and has recently broken up with his on again-off again girlfriend (again). The two meet and have a sexy one night stand, but neither think anything will come of it. Fate has other plans when Tessa finds out she is pregnant. When her apartment floods soon after, she moves in with Cole while it is being repaired and so they can get to know each other and become friends before their baby comes. Along the way, they find they have great chemistry and are really good together, so they begin to fall for each other. They both have some issues to overcome before they can make things work between them, but it all works out in the end and Tess and Cole get their HEA.
I liked Cole and Tess’s characters. Tess, especially, was endearing, quirky and relatable. They were very unique and fun together. I did feel like there was a little too much back and forth between them. Both were frustrating at times and stubborn. I wanted them to see the truth about their feelings for each other sooner. There was a bit too much focus on their personal flaws, like Tess feeling like everything was temporary, due to her unstable childhood, and Cole’s need for routine and structure. I felt those flaws were harped on throughout the book, instead of being resolved quicker. Cole is a creature of habit, possibly having some OCD tendencies. He fixates on his routine in a big way. He has an on again off again girlfriend that he had been with since childhood. He has always imagined he would eventually marry her. When he meets Tess, he is “off” with his ex, but he has no doubt they will get back together. Even when he and Tess have their hookup, he still thinks he will get back together with his ex, and through much of the events of the book, he still feels the same way. Eventually, he does realize that he is clinging to that routine and he didn’t really love his ex anymore. His ex also does not pursue him or act interested in getting back together with him. So I wasn’t extremely bothered by that ex drama, but I was bothered by the fact that he never really explained all of that to Tess. I wanted him to tell her that he no longer loved or wanted his ex, because he let her think otherwise and the ex is brought up very often. It bothered me that this plot point wasn’t fully resolved. I felt it added a little too much angst. I felt very sorry for Tess. Also, the big conflict and the way it wrapped up was not my favorite. I didn’t feel like Cole apologized for his part and I felt like Tess apologized too much, when not everything was her fault. I felt like she was made out to be the bad guy, when she was not, in my eyes. I did like the first 75% of the book better than the ending. The resolution was too short and the couple was not officially together until the very end. This all had me knocking the rating down from a 4 to a 3.5.
Still, most of the book was very enjoyable. I liked the slow burn, funny, sweet and easy feel of the book. The story was cute and I love a surprise pregnancy. I especially liked Tess’s knowledge of fun facts and trivia. I was happy that Tess and Cole were able to work out their relationship, fall in love, get over their issues and pasts, and make a family with their baby.
Overall, Awk-weird was a good read. I found Tess and Cole’s story sweet and fun, despite a few issues I had. This was my first read by Avery Flynn and I will try her again in the future.
Is AWK-WEIRD funny? You bet! From Tess Gardner’s disgorging of facts whenever she feels awkward to Cole Phillips’ regimented system of living – he’s been eating the same breakfast since childhood. Ha! – there are many humorous moments interspersed throughout the book.
In addition to the fun times, there are also the sexy times: Cole and Tess are without doubt hot for each other. Their physical relationship is definitely sizzling.
Yet what most appeals to me about Tess and Cole is their vulnerability. Each of them is looking for stability in their own way. Cole’s convinced a disciplined life with minimal change is the key to success. This may have worked in the past, but the wheels are starting to fall off his well-ordered life and he’s struggling.
Tess is also striving for a stable future. As the ‘poor relation’ who was shunted from one family member to the next during her childhood, Tess understands too well what it’s like not only to feel unwelcome but what it feels like to never have a proper foundation in life.
It’s an unplanned pregnancy that brings these two together beyond the initial agreed-upon one-night-stand. How do two so very different people reconcile themselves to a life sharing a child. One of the reasons I enjoy the unplanned pregnancy trope is that there is a limited time in which to make decisions. In Cole’s own words: ‘This hasn’t happened to me before. Do we get married? Do I cut a check? Do I need to set up a paternity test? Do we get lawyers involved? What happens next?’ It’s all these questions and more that Tess and Cole need to consider, and none of these take into account the awkwardness of the feelings they have for each other; feelings that never went away.
I was definitely cheering for this couple. They really are compatible even if initial impressions state otherwise.
I think Avery Flynn’s done a great job in telling this story. It’s well paced. It’s amusing. It’s heart-warming. It’s touching. It’s entertaining.
