There’s more to me than just being awk-weird. I own my own flower shop, have some great friends, and I have my eye on adopting the most adorable kitten. But sadly, hot guys don’t tend to be blown away by my trivia-spouting, dorky self. So when a Thor-lookalike who happens to be a professional hockey player hits on me at my bestie’s wedding rehearsal party… You better believe I climbed that … climbed that tree like a cat. And the fact that it happened not once, not twice, but three times? Yeah, that’s pretty much a once-in-a-lifetime experience for a woman like me.
There’s zero chance I’ll end up ever seeing him again…right?
Until the pregnancy test comes up positive. What happens next?
Oh my God, I wish I knew…

I haven’t read to many Avery Flynn books, but this book had me hooked… I Freaking loved it
Two opposite characters, one a nerd and one a jock. One quotes weird and random facts when she gets nervous and the other one is OCD about no changes to his life, sticking to routine and no changes at all.
I loved Tess, she was sweet (sometimes) feisty, funny but she had a tough life and my heart just broke for her past life. Cole man he didn’t have it easy all the time, moving around all the time when he was younger and now he just wants things stable and want to stick to one routine with no blindsiding or anything… Well he was in for a rude surprise….
This book will have you laughing out loud, some parts angry, some parts seriously pissed off and other parts melting your heart and #sigh. The banter and chemistry between these two characters will you have you wanting to just squash them together… lol…I hope there is more in this series, definitely can’t wait to read more.
Adore Tess and Cole! They are sweetly broken in the most heart string pulling way, the perfect pair to repair each other in all the best ways. She is quirky, fun, brilliant and most defiantly my soul sister…. He is sexy, exciting, controlling and engagingly unique, which makes them perfectly endearing. Loved this fun, witty and heart racing adventure!
Another great, fun read by Avery Flynn!
I love this series. I love these characters. I will be heartbroken if we don’t get more of the Ice Knights and the girls and the Hartigans and Larry at paint and sip. I think Cole and Tess are absolutely adorable. I am not sure they overtake my love for Fallon and Zach or Frankie and Lucy or Zara and Caleb or Gina and Ford, but they all set a pretty high bar. I fell in love with Tess before she blurted out her first random fact. I love the way Cole realizes when he fell in love. I love his linemen. I love the craziness. I love Khan. There was not one thing that I didn’t like about this book, these characters, this story. So much depth, so much dimension, superb writing, excellent storytelling, loving love story. Swoon. I just wish I could read it for the first time all over again. Oh and Larry’s baby gift? perfect.
Literally laugh out loud! Tess is great! I’d love to hang out with her! And reading about Cole learning to live with her and Kahn is beyond hilarious! If you’ve ever had a kitten, you will have “been there, done that” moments of laughter. Great read to pick you up and make you laugh or keep you up!
As a fellow trivia dork I fell in love with Tess immediately, Cole and Tess are another adorable couple in the Ice Knights series. It’s funny, sexy, imaginative, and will tug at your heartstrings while making you snort diet coke out your nose laughing.
I love love love this book, as well as this spin off series from Avery Flynn! Tess and Cole are amazing!
love Avery Flynn’s writing style! She brings laugh out loud humor, witty banter and great storytelling to all her books. Awk-Weird is a fantastic book that brings us a relationship between two unique MCs who aren’t your typical perfect romantic lead which makes their love story even more poignant. Toss in appearances by previous characters we’ve come to love and others we hope to see more from in future books, and you have one terrific book.
I was eagerly awaiting the release date for this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I have to patiently wait for Avery’s next book. Her books are so worth the wait!
This was the most AWE-SOME book! I found myself smiling and laughing through so much of the story. It wasn’t just funny though. I liked Tess a lot. She comes off kind of quirky and very upbeat. However, she’s got some inner demons (don’t we all though). She struggles with the feelings of being wanted and consistency. Cole was completely charming but still dreaming of his ex. It’s a shame because him and Tessa seriously hit it off! Their connection is sweet and hot! One month later and a MIA monthly and these two are bound together for at least 18 years! What follows is adorably funny and sweet story with a slow burn.
Avery Flynn really created a greatly developed story. I loved the slow burn, yeah, I know, she’s pregnant, but the building up their friendship after a costly one-night stand was sweet and I adored Tessa and Cole together. The quirky, nerdy Tessa and the hard-working Cole with the big heart were a story that just pulled and tugged at my heart. Miss Flynn gave us some fabulous secondary characters too which makes up Tessa’s family. The family from heart, not blood. I totally recommend this heartwarming and happy story!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Awk-Weird is a wonderful contemporary romance filled with comedy, romance, and pure joy and fun. Tess is a wonderfully awkward nerd who spouts random facts, especially when she’s nervous, uncomfortable, or stressed. When Tess hooks up with hockey player Cole (Thor’s twin) at Lucy and Frankie’s wedding after an inpromptu trivia contest, Tess and Cole go their separate ways. Except, in nine months they are going to be parents. Tess isn’t Cole’s type and Cole isn’t Tess’s type – or are they exactly what each other needs and have been looking for?
I loved Tess and Cole’s story. They are two unlikely people brought together in a fun and entertaining story filled with realism and emotion. Tess is quiet and sweet; Cole is a hockey player. Tess and Cole have extremely different backgrounds and were raised rather differently, as well. In an age where not everyone who has children together get married, the author built Tess and Cole’s story around trying to figure out how to be co-parents first then had them realize they want to be together for love and for their soon-to-be little family. Of course, they needed help from their friends in the form of having Tess live with Cole while her depressing little apartment was repaired by her slimy landlord, who also happened to be her uncle. I enjoyed the path the author took Tess and Cole on in order find their happily-ever-after.
Avery Flynn is a wonderful storyteller with unique characters, themes, and settings. Her stories pull you in and keep you thoroughly engaged and entertained. I have enjoyed both books in the Ice Knights series and look forward to the next book – especially since chapter one follows the end of Awk-Weird.
I was given a copy of this book to read.
Another great book in the Ice Knights series and for Avery Flynn. I’m definitely a fan. This one is about Cole (Thor like hockey player) and Tess a flower shop owner. At thier friend and team mates wedding they make a connection over trivia and then snuck out of the wedding together. He is very OCD and full of routines and processes. She is awk-weird and spouts random facts when nervous, wants a kitten and doesn’t believe in forever. Parts were laugh out loud especially the voicemails and also oh so sweet.
5 Star Review Awk-Weird (Ice Knights #2) by Avery Flynn
Avery Flynn is a relatively new author to me and I have no idea why that is. Having read the first book in the series I couldn’t wait to dive in and see who was next.
Cole plays for the Ice Knights, it’s all he wants to do. When he meets Tess at the wedding he is attracted to her whilst Tess cannot believe that this gorgeous Thor look alike could possibly be interested in her.
The chemistry between Cole and Tess sizzles as a hook up suddenly morphs in to so much more. I loved the banter between them as they got to know each other and I freely admit to some laugh out loud moments which got me some strange looks on the train. The secondary characters were just as entertaining.
Both Cole and Tess are certainly quirky characters that you couldn’t help but fall for. In fact they were so great together that I didn’t want their story to end. Awk-Weird is a great example of RomCom at it’s finest and I cannot wait to read more in the Ice Knights series.
A one night stand that leads to a surprise pregnancy is the basis of this romantic comedy by Avery Flynn. This is one of my favorite tropes and I’m not sure why because unplanned pregnancies are scary and when I had one it was no where near romantic or comedic but somehow authors can pull it off. Awk-Weird is the second book in the Ice Knights series but it can definitly be read as a stand alone.
Having never read a book by Avery Flynn, I now see why she’s a relatively big name in New Adult Romantic Comedy. Tess and Cole had me beyond sexually frustrated. They had already gotten pregnant and already living together so depriving not only themselves but me as well was really cruel. It wasn’t all fun and games either. Tess is so self deprecating due to her child hood that she doesn’t see what is literally right in front of here which leads to a few heartbreaking chapters.
(5 out of 5 stars) Avery Flynn has the potential to become a new favorite of mine. I actually have a few of her other books on my Kindle that I will definitly be moving to the top of my TBR. Tess and Cole’s story was absolutely beautiful and had all the feels.
Surprise pregnancy – check! Forced proximity – check! Hockey goodness – check! And for a bonus an adorably devilish kitten named Kahn! I truly enjoyed Awk-Weird. I’m a fan of the series connection to The Hartigans as well and was super happy to see all of the cameos (and am stoked for Petrov’s story in Loud Mouth next). I related to the nomadic childhood of Collins and sympathized with Tess’. Their chemistry and mutual love of trivia was an immediate pull for me but I was so not ready for the angst! The way they both fell for each other but failed to communicate AND denied it to themselves drove me NUTS. It also kept me turning the pages, so what are you gonna do? I think the steamy bits here may have beat out the ones in Parental Guidance and those were intensely (and gloriously) hot. My only slight issue was the repetitive use of the word “awk-weird” and the fact that I didn’t think that Tess was all that weird to begin with. It might just be semantics, but I found her to be anxious and self-protective (and perhaps slightly neurotic), but it was totally understandable given her traumatizing childhood. Other than that, I’ll take a book on every Ice Knight if Avery Flynn wants to keep writing them! 4 out of 5 wine glasses.
Such a great closing for the four paint and sip friends.
Tess is starting to feel left out as her other friends have all coupled up. Then enter Thor lookalike Cole from the Ice Knights.
Can two super weird, super obsessive people make a go of it?
Loved this book! Can’t wait to see how the other Ice Knights fall.
Tess and Cole are both delightfully weird, broken, and adorable. I loved their meet-cute, and thought it amazing how will they fit together. Perhaps not what either would have chosen for themselves, the forced association of the pregnancy and close proximity of living together gave them much opportunity to discover how perfect they were for one another. Despite themselves, they formed a real strong bond and were well on their way to developing a great relationship. But since neither of them was truly honest with themselves, let alone each other, it was no wonder that they had so much difficulty. I did get real tired of Tess professing ceaselessly who their situation was just temporary, and Cole always talking about his ex-girlfriend who was sure to come back. There could have been half as much of that in the book and it still would have felt like we got hit over the head with them. We could have entirely skipped the last couple of chapters and gotten the same result. And I absolutely did not like the fact that the situation with Marti was never addressed between them. But overall this was a darling tale, and I’d be interested to read others in this series and/or by this author.
Wedding
Shy, sweet Tess owns a flower shop and constantly spouts off trivia. Cole is a pro hockey player who knows trivia and can keep up with Tess. These two end up together at their friends’ wedding with close encounters three times. The next morning, no phone numbers exchanged. A month later Tess is looking at four pregnancy tests and going to her three best friends with their hockey connections for his phone number. A laugh out loud romance with a crazy kitten and a lot of friends rooting for them to be permanent.
I always enjoy Avery Flynn’s stories! Tess and Cole have been in the background and this time they get their story. Tess believes that everything is temporary and Cole feels that his ex is the only constant in his life.
Thank goodness getting ‘weddinged’ was the catalyst they both needed. I laughed, felt sad and ultimately rooted for their HEA.
If you have not discovered the amazingness that is Avery Flynn, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! You need her stories in your life! I had a friend recommend Butterface to me a while back and I have been devouring her books ever since! Do not walk, do not pass go, RUN! I promise you WILL NOT regret picking up a book by Avery Flynn!
Awk-Weird was no different. I could not put it down! Awk-Weird had all the laugh-out-loud moments and heart-warming goodness I’ve come to love from Avery Flynn.
We met Tess a long time ago in Butterface and I’ve been (not so) patiently waiting for her to get her happily ever after. She awk-weird fact rambling has endured to me the best way! And Cole was absolutely a swoony hero who was perfect for her!
Really, these characters could not have been more perfect for each other! They both have a need for control over their lives thanks to ever-changing childhoods. Cole is a little OCD and has to have everything stay with his routine. Tess always treats everyone and everything as something temporary so she would be disappointed with things end.
Throw in a crazy devil cat, some meddling best friends and you have a recipe for an amazing story!
Another winner from Avery Flynn! The name is perfect, because it’s a perfect blend of awkward and weird, but in the best way. Tess is adorable in her nerdy, fact-loving way, and it’s the knowledge of all things trivia that somehow puts her on Cole’s radar. Not gonna lie, I felt bad for Tess and the way she feels about herself, and that goes back to her childhood, which wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, and that has settled into her subconscious. She’s got her quirks that make her unique, but of course not everyone is willing to embrace quirkiness.
I liked Cole, but there was something about him that didn’t have me fully in his corner. Probably due to the situation with his ex, but again, seeing as that he didn’t really know Tess, his reaction to the news of Tess’ pregnancy was understandable. Especially given that he’s a guy who is all about structure and routine. Of course things change in a major way for both of them, but they’re so good together and I couldn’t wait to see how things would end up for these two.
