The official tie-in book to the wildly popular Facebook page, featuring brand-new crazy, off-the-wall, outrageously funny, and downright “awesome” pearls of wisdom from real-life drill sergeants and instructors from all branches of the military.
Sweat dries. Blood clots. Bones heal. Suck it up, buttercup.
After his deployment in Afghanistan, Dan Caddy began swapping great drill sergeant stories … great drill sergeant stories by e-mail with other combat veterans—an exchange with friends that would grow into the dedicated Facebook page, “Awesome Sh*t My Drill Sergeant Said.” But what began as a comedic outlet has evolved into a robust online community and support network that conducts fundraisers for and donates to military charities, has helped veterans struggling with PTSD and other issues, and on numerous occasions, literally saved lives.
Now, Caddy shares more great DS stories—most never before seen—in this humorous collection. Often profane, sometimes profound, yet always entertaining, these rants from real life soldiers are interspersed with lively sidebars, Top 10 lists, stories from fans, one-liners, and more.
For anyone who has suffered a hard-ass manager (in uniform or not), Awesome Sh*t My Drill Sergeant Said will add a much needed dose of humor to the day.

Anyone who has been through basic training can find something to relate to in this book. The use of the “F word” is stronger than I remember from Basic training in 1970 and I am sure it is used much less in today’s coed training but the core concepts and activities in basic training and drill sergeants is very familiar.
Some funny stuff. Laughed out loud several times. Enjoyed the book.
Easy to read. Nice to know everyone else had the same Drill Sergeant!
Absolutely hilarious.
Loved it
It was a relatively short book. It has strong language and in some parts is funny. Overall it was an interesting read.
Sorry ,I didn’t like it. so didn’t finish it.
For anyone who likes the military, bad language and has a real sense of humor
Not quite unsafe for work. Sort of tepid, actually.
Best part about the book was when drill seargents were portrayed as humans. But I was surprised that the payload of the book was 75% witty insults.
Fair, it’s not the way I remembered my initial military experience.
Funny and the reason I never enlisted.
I thought it would have advice on how to live your life better. It really diddn’t.
Not sure I would recommend the book, but if you read what it is about, why would you be surprised at the language. It is a good book when you need a kick in the arse ….. It does take away the Marine blues
Quick read and very relatable if you were ever in the military.
I don’t remember my Marine Drill Instructors doing or acting the way the army drill sergeants are portrayed in this book. They were tough, yes, but I don’t remember even one ever using the F word—they could, literally, tell you to go to hell and make you look forward to the trip.
I am a Navy veteran. This book was fun.
Not at all similar to my experience in Army basc training or advanced training.
If you went through Basic Training you can relate to this book.
Awesome Sh*t My Drill Sergeant Said by Dan Caddy is a nostalgia book for any who have lived through the rigors of basic training. And yes, there are some who have not made it through for all kinds of reasons, including death. This book will not dwell on those unfortunates. Reading these anecdotes will be amusing for most of us who did survive it. …
