This was a great short story by Lexi Blake writing as Sophie Oak. It was very much in keeping with the other books I’ve read from her that delve into the BDSM world. She writes this world well. This story had a man scared to love and a woman who won’t settle for less. I enjoyed the twists and turns and really appreciated all the fullness of this story for being so short.
The narrator did a great job. But then again I’m rarely disappointed with Sebastian York. He gives a really good performance.
Didn’t even bother to finish this book. The lead male character just annoyed me too much to continue. Only got to page 66 before I stopped reading. He reminded me of a little boy who didn’t really want his toy until it was taken away from him.
I just did a reread of this one! Still just as powerfully emotional as the first time. Gaby having to go through her issue alone and Cal having no idea. You can feel Gabys pain. You understand her side. At first you don’t want to see Cal’s side or his pain. But somehow you can’t help but see and feel his anguish, too.
5 Star Review Away From Me by Sophie Oak
Callum Reed is a man who was shattered by the death of his wife and has vowed never to fall in love or get married again. He has a contract with his submissive Gaby Sullivan and believes all is well until she decides to end their contract without warning.
Unbeknownst to Callum, Gaby is hiding a secret that she is determined he will not learn and the only way to do so is to break their contract and leave.
Fast forward and Callum accidentally discovers the secret that Gaby hid from him and he has so many emotions rising that it is hard to focus. All he knows is that his submissive needed him and he failed her, however he is also determined that he will prove to her that he is her Master and always will be. After Gaby left him, little by little Callum changes.,
Not a particularly long read, Away From me is full of passion, hope, strength and determination and at the heart is a story of love and hope, of family, going through the good and the bad times and supporting one another together. It shows the importance of communication and of listening and coming to terms with the past and moving forward.
I laughed, I cried, I yelled out loud and I refused to put Away From Me down. I have to say whilst reading this book my heart stopped a few times. I read this in nearly one read, I had to know what was going to happen next!
What an emotional roller-coaster Away From Me was. I love how caring Callum became and how protective he was with Gaby. He absolutely oozes sex appeal, dominance and control; a real alpha male, one I would most certainly love to have in my life.
This is a beautifully written love story. Although I felt Callum was an absolute jerk to Gaby initially, I was brought around and I fell in love with his kindness, compassion and you will not quit attitude, which was just what Gaby needed. Ms. Oak writes with a depth of character that at times comes right out of no-where and knocks your socks off. The layers of emotions she peels back can at times be heart wrenching, shocking and surprising.
If you haven’t yet read this book, then do yourselves a favour and read it. It is a story of love, hope, trust and faith, believe in yourself and maybe, just maybe a miracle will occur.
What a good story I LOVED it! Why is it when you toss something out and then all of a sudden decide that you want it and then pursue it with a passion?
Callum Reed didn’t throw out Gabrielle Sullivan but he refused to tell her he loved her. She breaks her contract because it seems Callum (Cal) will never love her. I can’t say more because if this book interests you I don’t want to give the story away. It is a very good story. There are elements of BDSM and it’s a very sexy read. So, this book isn’t for everyone. But, oh man this book is good!
I am so happy that I have discovered a new side (to me) of Lexi Blake as she writes as Sophie Oak.
I give Away From Me 5 STARS. Loved it!
