There’s something wicked happening in Onyx City… Souls are being recruited by the devil himself to prepare for an all-out war against Heaven, and Reese Lespoir finds herself at the heart of it. She’s awoken from a coma by a kiss from a mysterious stranger who’s more prickly than prince. She learns she now has the power to see the future, which apparently, requires careful training. Enter … training. Enter Prickly Prince, who seems to find more enjoyment being a witty drunk than honing her craft. When a girl is taken by Onyx City’s most notorious criminal, who may or may not be a demon, Reese is thrust into the forefront of the impending war well before she’s ready. Her new friend, Andie Shepherd, is intent on getting her sister back from the demonic criminal at all costs, and if Reese doesn’t help her, Andie may have to rely on the assistance of a vigilante known only as Black Wing, dangerous as he is tall, dark and handsome. And that’s only if he’s in a particularly generous mood. Just because he has wings doesn’t always mean he’s an angel, after all.more

Emotionally thrilling, action packed and exciting adventure that will keep you glued to the edge of your seat from beginning to end. This heart racing journey is filled with engaging magical charters, witty dialog, exciting turns and am looking forward to more!
This was an amazing story. The first part of the book is spent getting to know the main characters and really learning and liking them. Then boom, Reese is told that a war is brewing and that she and her friends have ended up right in the middle of it. I liked the story and the slow build that made me like the characters and really kept me reading and trying to guess who were the the good and bad guys. I liked that that I did not exactly guess who would be who. And then the fun really started. I found the book hard to put down and wildly addicting. I loved the different take on mythology and mix of the superhero and the power of friendship . The way Onyx City ends up being the center of everything was cool. I liked how it was not just a main character but multiple people that made the story even more interesting. Just a great read and a different type of series that was fun and addicting to read.
War is coming. For the first half of this book I didn’t know where the story was going. The author introduces us to three heroines, seventeen year old Andie, seventeen year old Reese, and eighteen year old Keirah Andie’s older sister. But half way through the book we finally understand what the story is about. A war is coming and these three women and their potential love interests will decide who wins. Good or evil? I am hooked and can’t wait to read the second book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
This story is unique and original. It has so much mystery, suspense, drama and action throughout it. I am not sure who my favorite character is because they are equally developed extremely well. Andie, Reese, and Keirah all have strong personalities that can be felt as well as pictured throughout the story. The story does start off a little slower but quickly picks up. It is well written and yes, it does end in a cliffhanger but I cannot wait to read the next one in the series. The end of the this story has me dug in so deep that I just have to find out what happens next. This is a must read!!!!!!

I absolutely adored this book, and can’t wait to dive into its follow up. You initially think it’s your typical new adult romance, when BAM! Shocker, that’s the last thing this is. It’s not PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, or RIVERDALE. Think much, much bigger. The setting is the city of Onyx (think Gotham but a tad less violent). Guarded by a secret hero called Dark Wing. We are introduced to a few teen girls, but each have important roles to play. Luckily they are all connected via either friendship or blood. This book had many layers of secrets. How does a girl trapped in a coma for a year suddenly awaken right as rain? There are Greek myths, angels, fallen angels and the devil himself within these pages. All jockeying to see how the battle will begin, and WHO strikes the match. Slowly each girl learns her role as each delicious page and chapter it’s revealed. This is just the beginning…
ONE ELECTRIFYING ADVENTURE!!!
Intense! Isadora brought out the big guns for this tough as nails, mind-blowing, chart topping, rollercoaster ride that blasts this baby wide open. A tightly spinning vortex of vexing circumstances and a slew of unexpected events propels this baby into a tailspin with shocking results. Blundering through the trials and tribulations, sharp twists and sleek turns, throwing this little fella into a tizzy with an astounding culmination. Bracing the drama, intrigue, turmoil, distress, danger and soaring suspense, blasts this little fella into the eye of the storm, breaking it down, propelling it to life beautifully. The characters are authentic and original with depth and traits that blend into amazing personalities. The scenes are so graphic and detailed it paints a fantastic backdrop that really makes the storyline pop. Incredible job Isadora, thanks for sharing this little gem us.
Awaken takes a little bit of mythology throws in angel’s and demons stirs in some purgatory, adds a splash of reincarnation and finishes with a dash of superheroes and villains to create a series that you can’t get enough of! The three main leads are intriguing and have great stories that play out throughout the first book and give us a glimpse at interactions with their chosen partners who are not exactly what they appear to be. Andie, Reese and Keirah are all on different paths and yet intertwined in the coming events. Excellent read! I volunteered to read this book via Booksprout.
I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
OMFG This book is absolutely f#&$ing fantastic. At first I wasn’t too sure but then once you get into it, it’s just mind blowing.
I love the fact that there are quite a few different characters that we are following throughout the book, and it depends on each of their fate as to what happens in the future.
Isadora has definitely written a thoroughly out of this world great read with this book. I can’t wait for the next instalment.
It’s definitely one I’d recommend, so many twists and turns, you’ll feel like you’re on a rollercoaster ride, but trust me you won’t want to get off until you’ve finished it
Book Review
Title: Awaken (The Dark Paradise Chronicles #1)
Author: Isadora Brown
Genre: Paranormal/Romance
Rating: ***
Review: The prologue to Awaken was confusing, it has a Sleeping Beauty like opening with a man awakening a woman in a coma with a kiss in a place called Onyx. I didn’t get much from the opening, but we then jump to Andie’s perspective. Annie is having the worst day as she goes for an internship, she knows she isn’t going to Jack Phillip, and when she meets him on the street, she unleashes her temper on him, but it turns out her best friend Carey got her a catering at Jack’s party. We then jump perspective again to that of Keirah, who is Andie’s older sister who hates the fact her sister is so perfect when she is anything but. Keirah was for a doctor’s office as a receptionist but gets the shock of her life the notorious criminal Noir is brought is after being caught by Onyx city’s vigilante hero Black Wing. After the fairytale like opening this now reminds me of Gotham, but we switch perspectives again to that of Reese. Reese the girl from the opening who is dreaming about the man who woke her despite the doctors telling her different. When she meets Henry in her first day of high school, she feels like she knows him, and I have a feeling he might be the man from the opening, and I have a feeling that these perspectives are going to collide in some way.
As we approach the ¼ mark in the novel, it seems like all these girls are connected to Jack Phillip in some way even the mysterious Henry seems to know Jack. When he offered Andie the internship despite her outburst, she is surprised but elated. I don’t have much of a read-on Jack yet, but I have a feeling that he is going to have an ulterior motive somewhere, good or bad I don’t know yet. Each girl seems to have a special ability of sorts although they are major or magical in any way, and each seems to be enamoured with a man. For Andie, it’s Jack Phillip, for Reese it’s Henry and for Keirah it’s Noir and I have a feeling the storylines for all 6 characters are going to overlap.
As we cross the ¼ mark in the novel, the only perspective I was really enjoying was Keirah’s, as her relationship with Noir is fascinating and I really wanted to see more of it. Despite this we do get more of Andie and Jack’s relationship as well as Reese and Henry’s but Noir and Keirah make an interesting pair to say the least purely because he is a sociopath or possibly a psychopath but he makes he feel things that no one has before and is willing to look past what he is to see who he is which fascinate Noir to no end and he loves things that fascinate him which are now Black Wing and Keirah.
As we approach the halfway mark in the novel, there seems to be a tense atmosphere settling over the story but not much has happened outside of Noir and Keirah’s storyline. While Andie is distressed by the seeing Keirah seems calm and collected knowing the fact that Noir won’t hurt her and despite everything she seems to want to meet him again. When Ollo enters the story we get this huge info dump on the characters it turns out that Reese is a reincarnation of the Oracle of Delphi and there are angels and demons running around in disguise including Henry and Black Wing. There are also other beings, pawns of Satan like Noir but Keirah is changing his nature loosening the evil grip over him. Despite this info dump it was an interesting turn in the story and I was eager to see where the author would take it.
As we cross into the second half of the novel, Noir comes back for Keirah and she doesn’t seem remotely afraid of him even when they go to him home. This relationship is complex and Keirah definitely sees Noir for who he is rather than what he is which was refreshing but now Andie is living with Jack because Keirah has disappeared again and I don’t think she is coming back anytime soon, especially if Noir has anything to do with it. We know that Reese is someone extraordinary and I have a feeling that Keirah and Andie might also be special just not in the same way.
As we approach the ¾ mark in the novel, I was enjoying the story but apart from the three girls knowing each other I don’t see how the perspectives are connected. As Reese learns more about what she is we are introduce to Kane, who has been sent to rid Noir of his distraction; Keirah but she has been told not to interfere even if it means hurting her friend. The scene where Andie meets the mysterious Black Wing after getting away from a creep while trying to track down her sister was interesting and I’d like to see more of him, especially since up until this point he has only been mentioned by other characters. Meanwhile, Keirah is developing a genuine affection of Noir even helping commit crimes relatively unfazed when he kills everyone except her.
We see Andie and Jack become closer as well as Reese and Ollo but apart from Keirah and Noir’s relationship there is no other romance. In places the plot seems a little rushed like the author couldn’t make up their mind about what genre this book is supposed to be, and it also suffers from some serious pacing issues, but it is enjoyable and in parts quite humorous. As we cross into the final section of the novel, many things are revealed and we have three set romance Reese and Ollo, Jack and Andie, and Keirah and Noir. The ending was interesting and really sets up the catalyst for the war that is to come. While I didn’t live this book, I did really enjoy it and will definitely be continuing on with the series in the future and I have a few other books by Isadora Brown that I need to read.
First let me state that I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.
Holy shiznet!!! Ms. Brown truly knows just the right words to put a story together. One that grabs you from the start and grips you tightly until the end, and this story does that. This doesn’t end in cliffhanger, but it does leave you desperately craving the next story. I truly enjoyed this read, and can’t wait to read the next one. I recommend this read 5 Thumbs up
I really enjoyed this book. It was well written and the characters and story were well developed. It was action packed and full of suspense, intrigue, betrayal, emotion, and romance. I’d highly recommend this book and look forward to the next book in this series!!
I found this book to be well worth the read and sat and read it in one sitting! Needless to say, it grabbed my attention from the get-go and held it till the very last word. I’m definitely looking forward to book 2 so as to see where the author takes us next. The story is dark, but it’s also funny in places and extremely well written throughout. There are lots of twists and turns that shall keep you on your toes and engaged in the plot.

Although the story started out a bit slow once it got going it was pretty good. This is a coming of age, good vs evil story full of angels, demons, superheroes, villains and so much more. The characters are well developed, and I loved getting to know all three sisters point of view. The story flowed nicely and I look forward to reading more of this series.
