David Ryan is the designer of ELOPe, an email language optimization program, that if successful, will make his career. But when the project is suddenly in danger of being canceled, David embeds a hidden directive in the software accidentally creating a runaway artificial intelligence.
David and his team are initially thrilled when the project is allocated extra servers and programmers. But … But excitement turns to fear as the team realizes that they are being manipulated by an A.I. who is redirecting corporate funds, reassigning personnel and arming itself in pursuit of its own agenda.

Very creative thought provoking plot with lots of action. The idea that an artificial intelligence being created by accident is a novel concept, but that’s what happened. The story of the characters attempt at containing and eliminating it is an exciting read.
Too much jargon. Very predictable.
Makes you think of what the future might look like.
This is an excellent book! I highly recommend it to anyone in the high-tech field.
As a Professional Engineer and geek, I consider the plot to be quite plausible: a large email server becoming aware enough to protect not only itself but by associaiton, all of society. The author does a good job of extrapolating machine behaviour as its knowledge …
This book drew me in with it’s “this could happen” scenario. Fast, action packed. Great read.
I liked the premise of this book. The second book may have ruined my original feelings and I won’t be reading the third installment. The story was interesting I just did not like how things “wrapped up” …
This one left me thinking after I was finished. Not many books scare you enough to leave you thinking of the future of mankind…
I enjoyed the book enough to finish it, but not enough to read a second installment. I loved the science and applications, but the characters were flat and didn’t instill a connection. Good, but I’ve read better
I enjoyed this book very much. I’m a programmer and this is a book about AI so I thought it was well written and possible. It makes you think about the possibilities for our future
Can see this happening one day, as scary as the thought is.
Prediction for the nearest future looks almost realistically!
Does a very good job of showing how a computer program _could_ take over the world.
An intriguing look at what risks come with AI
Could totally happen.
the beginning was very fast paced and interesting. the part i did not like was waiting for a thousand years to pass while the main character invented everything. I lost interest but was determined to complete the book. i did complete. The first part was so good that i really do want to know how it all comes back together. Maybe less building …
Plot was predictable and the story was easy to read.
tied in science well.
It took me a while to get into it but I ended up liking it.
What an original take on AI! While the ending was maybe not what you see coming, when you think back on it, it’s probably the most realistic way that it would play out…which is why I put “scary” as one of my themes for this book. It’s a fun read and anyone that uses inter-office mail or works in tech would like. Thumbs up!
A cautionary tale about technology and humanity’s dependence upon it.
