When the Nazis invaded Hungary in 1944, they sent virtually the entire Jewish population to Auschwitz. A Jew and a medical doctor, Dr. Miklos Nyiszli was spared from death for a grimmer fate: to perform “scientific research” on his fellow inmates under the supervision of the infamous “Angel of Death”: Dr. Josef Mengele. Nyiszli was named Mengele’s personal research pathologist. Miraculously, he … he survived to give this terrifying and sobering account.

Everyone should read this book. It is hard to believe that people can be this cruel and callus and have so little respect for human life. People need to know about Hitler and his SS. This can never be allowed to happen again.
I am still haunted by the horrendous deaths of thousands and thousands of fellow Jews the author witnessed. At the same time he lived in horror that he would be included if he did not walk the precarious tightrope under Josef Mengele. This book is a must read.
A reminder of what can happen even in a civilized country.
Unbelievable truth !
I cant really describe this book because it takes in a subject that I never thought of while reading any books about the Holocaust. I am still thinking.
I think this should be required reading in every high school in countries that were affected by this evil.
fascinating, can’t imagine what this man went through.
I teresting viewpoint of the Holacaust. Somewhat dry but the facts spoke for themselves. Strange forward by Bruno Bettelheim…wrote about Jews walking passively to their death, which I thought was unfair and simplistic.
Just started reading, perfect for those who hang in every detail!
Some of information as told, has been questioned by other survivors, but in general, is a horrible testament to the demonic actions that took place.
A very hard read but I believe gives the real story of auschwitz.
A very bizarre, almost surreal story. This was an incredibly tragic period in the history of man, but it should not be forgotten.
This book gave me an insight into a very, “boots on the ground”, perspective. I often wondered how someone like this doctor could have fallen so low as to serve the nazis. Now I’ve seen a different side to the …
A very informative book about one doctor’s survival in a German concentration camp and the atrocities committed there in the name of scientific research.
Individual Holocaust stories need to be shared and read.
This is a story about a Jewish doctor who was forced to work for Dr. Joseph Menglele in the camp. It gives a description f the camp, the things that were done to the prisoners and how the doctor survived. It is very violent, so don’t read it if your think the cruelty will affect you.

It was interesting because it was written by a man who lived through it.
A well written book, by a Dr. who was there. It would be considered by some to be eye opening. By others a good look at the truth of what happened.
Good history
Only got the sample, but still found this to be a revisit of other Holocaust accounts. I thought the doctors inside perspective would be different. That did not happen in the sample that I perused. Perhaps it would happen in the rest of the book. But I’m not going to pay to find out.
