When the Nazis invaded Hungary in 1944, they sent virtually the entire Jewish population to Auschwitz. A Jew and a medical doctor, Dr. Miklos Nyiszli was spared from death for a grimmer fate: to perform “scientific research” on his fellow inmates under the supervision of the infamous “Angel of Death”: Dr. Josef Mengele. Nyiszli was named Mengele’s personal research pathologist. Miraculously, he … he survived to give this terrifying and sobering account.

One of the few first hand accounts of a P.O.W. in Auschwitz . Sad, disturbing, not for the faint of heart… but a good book, nonetheless.
Before reading this book the Holocaust was just something that happened. This brought the horror and evil into focus. ISIS is nothing compared to the inhumane acts that we’re perpetrated by the Germans/Hitler.
Authentic depiction of conditions, reality & horrors of war.
Eye opening first hand account of in concentration camp and experiemnts done or ordered by Dr. Mengele
This was a great book. This is scary and so real because it happened. If trump gets in it will happen again. Welcome to the Trump Camp
It’s difficult to give five stars to a book about the Holocaust as that was such a horrible time in the history of mankind. This books was well written and describes many of the horrors that occurred from the perspective of one individual who lived through much of it. Highly recommended for those mature adults that are interested in that time in …
Thank you for what it must have cost you to relive that horrible, terrible time in your life. So much pain and suffering. Pray the world never forgets .
This book is the actual story of Dr. Mikios Nyiszli–a Hungarian Jew who was sent to Auschwitz where thousands of Jews were cremated. The head doctor of the camp, Dr. Josef Mengele pulled Dr. Nyiszli from the crowd to make him a personal assistant. Dr. Nyiszli was forced to do experiments on Jews who were killed but not cremated. He was able to …
Informative & heart wrenching story of what the Labor camp Nazi prisoners went through in WW2! Unbelievable courage was demonstrated which in today’s world would be impossible to come close to ever be witnessed! I am sickened to learn more of this kind of suffering which keeps me humbled! We should be more aware of the blessings we are …
Informative, heart breaking
The Holocaust should NEVER be forgotten. I am glad that this book describes exactly how horrid conditions were for those imprisoned.
Traumatic but riveting as well as stomach turning
Anyone who has not learned of the Holocaust needs to read this book by a Jewish man who was at the horror camps of The Nazis. We must never forget and we need to learn from this horrific time in world history.
Eye opening!
A little difficult to follow, but good.
Heartbreaking
“A Doctor’s Eyewitness Account” is a memoir written by a Hungarian Jewish doctor Miklós Nyiszli, who was deported to Auschwitz in 1944 and selected as an assistant to the infamous Dr. Mengele. Compared to all of the other memoirs that I’ve read throughout my life, Nyiszli fared comparatively well. Given his own separate living quarters next to the …
I wasn’t sure if I’d like reading about this tragic time in history, but after starting to read this book it was hard to put it down. This couldn’t have been easy for the author to write about his horrific losses and experiences that became very real to the reader. I had an idea of what happened in these concentration camps, but this book was …
Very personal account of the horrors of the holocaust
It made the truth of the life of a worker in the crematorium, who never knew when his turn would be next.
