Aunt Bessie assumes that she’ll have the beach all to herself on a cold, wet, and windy March morning just after sunrise, then she stumbles (almost literally) over a dead body.
Elizabeth (Bessie) Cubbon, aged somewhere between free bus pass (60) and telegram from the Queen (100), has lived her entire adult life in a small cottage on Laxey beach. For most of those years, she’s been in the habit … the habit of taking a brisk morning walk along the beach. Dead men have never been part of the scenery before.
Aunt Bessie assumes that the dead man died of natural causes, then the police find the knife in his chest.
Try as she might, Bessie just can’t find anything to like about the young widow that she provides tea and sympathy to in the immediate aftermath of finding the body. There isn’t much to like about the rest of the victim’s family either.
Aunt Bessie assumes that the police will have the case wrapped up in no time at all, then she finds a second body.
Can Bessie and her friends find the killer before she ends up as the next victim?

A very enjoyable cozy series set on the Isle of Man. I’ve read the first six in the series and am about to start number 7. I would highly recommend Aunt Bessie to any one who enjoys British cozies. The characters are well formed and the plot lines keep you reading. An A+ series.
Dear Aunt Bessie always finds a cozy mystery. I assume you’ll love this one as much as I did. Check out the whole collection an Audiobooks are well worth the listen with all the attending accents.
not memorable
Great series…everyone should have an Aunt Bessie in their lives
Great characters on the Isle of Man. Read one and you won’t stop until you have read the entire series!
Enjoyed

I’m reading this book now and I know I will like the other books in the series.
The heavy British usage of words had me looking-up some things, especially the locations.
This is the first book in the Aunt Bessie Isle of Mann mystery series. I enjoy the characters. The writing is entertaining, the setting is wonderful, and the mysteries are a bit more than cozy. Best read in order.
As an older woman who is too often discounted due to gray hair, I always enjoy smart older women stories.
cute story, cute characters, not quite believable/realistic very light read
This is a cozy mystery. Enjoyed it. Only complaint is that you can guess the culprit early on. Nice read for rainy day.
It was a very slow moving mystery.
Slow and rather boringly
For people who love Miss Marple mysteries, meet Aunt Bessie. She’s the right lady at the right time, and with the right friends to help her through just about anything.
Aunt Bessie is quite a lady.
Aunt Bessie is a wonderful character and everyone’s aunt. She is original and has a mind of her own. The plot is properly intricate and keeps readers on their toes. Fun to immerse oneself in her world, great settings for the stories.
Good Book until they set her up and then get distracted. That was a bit of a stretch for me. Otherwise, very entertaining. Will read more of Aunt Bessie.
I liked this book. Reminded me of Agatha Christy books. I found Aunt Bessie to be a very warm character, someone I could relate to
Enjoyable British whodunit. I plan to read the entire series.
