Aunt Bessie assumes that she’ll have the beach all to herself on a cold, wet, and windy March morning just after sunrise, then she stumbles (almost literally) over a dead body.
Elizabeth (Bessie) Cubbon, aged somewhere between free bus pass (60) and telegram from the Queen (100), has lived her entire adult life in a small cottage on Laxey beach. For most of those years, she’s been in the habit … the habit of taking a brisk morning walk along the beach. Dead men have never been part of the scenery before.
Aunt Bessie assumes that the dead man died of natural causes, then the police find the knife in his chest.
Try as she might, Bessie just can’t find anything to like about the young widow that she provides tea and sympathy to in the immediate aftermath of finding the body. There isn’t much to like about the rest of the victim’s family either.
Aunt Bessie assumes that the police will have the case wrapped up in no time at all, then she finds a second body.
Can Bessie and her friends find the killer before she ends up as the next victim?

Really good book with great characters. It was hard to put down. Really came to like Aunt Bessie!
Wow! I think I’ve found another cozy mystery series to love! Aunt Bessie is a great character and she’s surrounded by interesting cohorts. I’m looking forward to the next story in this series.
I could say the same about every Aunt Bessie mystery: they’re absolutely delightful! I’ve read them all so far–through the letter N!– and am looking forward to the next installment. Best cozy mysteries ever!
Loved the book. Read all of the rest in the series
Loyal characters with a feeling of home.
Loved this book so much I cannot put her others down.
I really enjoy the Aunt Bessie mysteries. The books have been adding a lively group of interesting “supporting” characters in Bessie’s circle of friends. I am definitely interested in reading more!
I could not stay interested in this book. The story jumped from one thing to another. I found it boring and I did not finish it.
I read this book in two days and it had me guessing to the end. This was a well written book and very informative about the Isle of Man. I can’t wait to read the next book. I love Diana Xarissa’ s books. A great author.
Great series!
great fun
All Aunt Bessies books are a great read.
I loved the character of Aunt Bessie and the fact that the strong leading female character is not young and sexy as most cozy mystery sleuths are, but mature and intelligent. She is someone you want to know and I already purchased the next book in the series. The location of the story is also unique and makes me want to visit the Isle of Man.
A charming mystery tale about a double murder on the Isle of Manx, plenty of motives and opportunity to go around. It is very much in the style of a Miss Marple mystery, only lighter and shorter. A Witty mystery confounding a community of lovable characters trying to solve the murders of two outsiders. Definitely a good bedtime cozy mystery read.
Nice cozy; well worth the time to read it.
I love Cozy Mysteries and Aunt Bessie is an adorable little old lady who still has it all together. I love being able to identify with her and wish I could solve things the way she does. Would love to have her as a neighbor
I am almost done with this series and highly recommend getting started with this one. If you can’t start with book one don’t worry, each book can be read as a stand alone.
This series is worth the price of Kindle Unlimited.
It’s a cute series. Entertaining, not too gory. Not too mushy.
I will probably never get a chance to visit the Isle of Man in real life, so I really appreciate the opportunity to visit through a book. I liked the locations that the author remembers from her time living there and I like the character of Aunt Bessie, everybody’s favorite maiden aunt. We never find out exactly how old Aunt Bessie is, but we know …
Loved the characters and settlng
