AN AMAZON MYSTERY BEST SELLER★★★★★ “A rousing crime novel.” – Amazon Top Reviewer Mack August, frustrated Los Angeles police detective, moves to a smaller city in Virginia to start over. Rather than join the force, he opens his own P.I. shop and hires out to local attorneys–until Sheriff Stackhouse comes calling, a stunner in designer khakis. Trouble has arrived, she explains, in the form of a … the form of a gang general from the West Coast. He’s galvanizing the drug trade using vicious strong-arm tactics, and the police can’t identify him.
The Sheriff begs Mackenzie to take a temporary assignment teaching at an inner city school, to infiltrate the general’s operative ranks inside, identify the crime boss, and bring him down. It’s an impossible task; he’d be a bull in a china shop. He could lose his license and people might get hurt. But if anyone can pull it off…
It’s the next great private detective, Mackenzie August.

I love – loved this book from page 1 to the end! I love the story & the way it was told. If you are looking something good to read. I recommend this
Did not care for the ending, but the story was good
Loved the writing. Great dialog. Loved that it took place in Roanoke, Va
This is my first time to read any of the August book series and I was in for a treat. If I couldn’t tell he just had a great sense of humor, I would think he was obnoxiously conceited. I laughed me way through the entire book and immediately bought the next one. I bet you do the same thing.
Interesting because I am familiar with area and this gave a current view of the problems faced by society even in this beautiful old southern city.
enjoy
Truth be told this book should received s Stars, but it left was to many loose strings at the end.
Excellent story
Rather strange to read about the city I lived in 42 years
Loved the action and the characters.
looking to read the next august book
Bought this book on a whim. Loved it from the beginning; so much that I ordered the second book and have written the titles of the remainder of the books thus far (up to #6). Really liked the characters, the stories were interesting, and the main character is smart, kind, delightful, funny, etc.
Mack August is Spenser on steroids. Witty, confident, honorable and smart.
Great read can’t wait to get the next one.
I loved the witty dialogue. The characters were complex, totally interesting and likeable. I rarely am driven to read the next book in a series but I will this time and very much look forward to it.
I enjoyed the humor and the proper English, street-talk notwithstanding when and as the scene and the characters required. A bit of too much philosophizing about whether to consummate his relationship with the mysterious beauty and where ( the back seat of a sports convertible is decidedly out of the question) but I give him a pass on that one. All told, the book is a fun read.
Excellent series!!
I enjoyed this book! What can I say? The dialogue was funny and the author’s sense of humor was right down my ally.
Allen Lee has become one of my favorite authors. I enjoy his MacKenzie August series and recently the ‘spin off’ Sinatra.
Good Books! Action-filled with enough humor to keep the pages turning.
suspenseful and funny. loved the characters.
Great book! Couldn’t put it down. Very well written; comedy and mystery together. Can’t wait for the next one!!
