IF THERE WERE EVER TWO HEARTS AND SOULS WHO NEEDED ONE ANOTHER, IT WAS THEIRS
I found book two in the Oregon Sky Series to be very enjoyable, and it will read well as a standalone. It does have many of the people that are introduced in book one, Phoebe’s Promise. Audrey Thomsen lost her childhood sweetheart and husband, Pete, during the wagon train trek to Oregon to Cholera but continued on the journey, selling her wagon and staying with Phoebe and Grace. She left Kentucky because her father was trying to force a marriage to a man he made a contract with, Frank Hillman.
Widower, Reid Wallace cannot get past his wife’s death during childbirth, even though he has a precious daughter, Sophia, and he needs a wife to help him to mother her and take care of the home. For Audrey to stay in Oregon, a mutual agreement is made with Reid that they will marry in name only, and it will be a marriage of convenience. Audrey’s father is furious and determined that he will take her back to Kentucky, and she will be forced to honor his contract with Frank. To him, she is no more than a pawn for him to gain status and her feelings do not matter.
The plot of the story is full of memories, angst, emotions and harrowing adventures of life and death. To what lengths will a person go to have their way? The dialog and thoughts of both Reid and Audrey are emotional as they try to deal with their situation and question their betrayal to their respected late spouses.
This is a clean romance with lots of emotional baggage, memories, and new beginnings. Two people must say goodbye to their former lives and mates and open their hearts to the future and happiness. “I was meant to find you, so you could save me.” The story does not end on a cliffhanger, but one can see several promising future stories in this series.
A clean, historical romance with wonderful characters. This is book two in the Oregon Sky series. Audrey goes against her father and marries Pete before heading out with a wagon train to Oregon. When Pete passes away from Cholera on the wagon train to Oregon, Audrey is taken in with Grace and Phoebe and finished the trek to Oregon. When her father learns of Pete’s passing he insists on coming to get Audrey and marrying her to his friend Frank. Audrey doesn’t want to leave Bethany and go back to Kentucky.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a fair review!
This is a wonderful tale of two heartbroken souls who find true love and healing in each other! Audrey lost the child hood friend turned husband on the Oregon Trail. Reid lost his wife in the childbirth of his daughter Sophie! They marry for convenience’s sake but God’s hands are very involved with their lives! I hope you enjoy the second book in the series as much as I did! Thanks again Kay for writing this beautiful series of the strength our forefathers and mothers developed by the tough situations they found themselves in, and the grace of God that allowed them to find joy in the mundane and love in the middle of heartache!
I borrowed Audrey’s Awakening form the Kindle Unlimited program.
Audrey is in Bethany with her friends from the wagon train at the end of the journey that took her young husband’s life. She loves the people that have become like family to her and wants to stay but is threatened with her father coming to take her back to Kentucky and force her into marriage.
Instead she is married to Reid Wallace, a widower with a young daughter, Sophie. They both struggle with the grief form the loss of their first loves but find a way to make a home together and face her father’s threats. The actions of a crazed man, the battle with feelings and the deep love makes Audrey’s Awakening a good historical romance with enough suspense to be very interesting.
It was a fair book. FD
