People think that I’m a nice guy. They’re wrong! What they see is the polished, non-threatening, good guy that I want them to see.It helps distract them from the darkness within me.No one can know that I have a sick mind like my dad, the infamous monster from the Red Manor Cult. Except, unlike him, I suppress my urge to dominate, hurt, and control. Every day, I tell myself that I’m NOT my father; … myself that I’m NOT my father; that I’m a better man.
But after Jolene began working for me, my control is slipping.
It feels like there’s a wolf inside me, stirring, growling, and pushing to get to Jolene. The fantasies of the disturbing things the wolf wants to do to her, haunts me.
I can’t allow the wolf to get control over me… or Jolene!

I like how they treat each other. Their communication is so good. Joelene, she’s smart but nosey. It was nice to see everyone from book 1. I wonder about those tapes and what else will come to light in the future. I did like how these characters are still essentially the same as their teenage selves. I really liked the super bowl antics, it made them see, more normal.
This book was exceptional! This was Book 2 of the Cultivated series. The characters seemed to lift off of the pages. The writing was excellent! Atlas and Jolene had so much chemistry together! Atlas is one of Conor Obrien’s biological children. Adopted by Charles and Liv Robertson, he now uses that surname. He is successful as he is handsome. His ultimate fear is being like his father. In his time away from Solver Industries, he is the Director of C.M. Research. He and his team are trying to research as to why people fall victim to cults, as well as other things. This is where he meets the newest member of the team, jolene Fisher. She is a clinical psychologist that has moved from California to Chicago. She is trying to make a fresh start. I highly recommend this book!
Two people who belong together.
This is the story of Atlas who is damaged thinking he’s like his terrible father. Thinking this he stays away from relationships not wanting to get hurt or hurt the women. He finds someone that can help him and finds out that she needs help herself from a stalker. He’s protective and is going to keep her safe especially as he’s attracted to her. Will they come through their problems together as see if they can have a future? I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This was a great read, this series is so much more then meets the eye. Atlas was a great character but he’s so damaged by witnessing to much tragedy and thinks there might be something wrong cause of it, he doesn’t want what he deems as darkness to consume him and makes him nervous to let anyone get to close but when he meets Jolene he has this intense need to protect her. This was definitely one I would recommend

Captivating and soul-searching…a very good read!
Elin Peer, when she tells a story and develops her characters, always delves deep into the human psyche and reveals truths about our instinctive behavior. How does someone cope with trauma and protect themselves from it ever happening again? We discover that different people, even having gone through the same experience together, will cope differently. This is the continuing story of one such family (although it works as a stand-alone) and in particular, Atlas’s inability to accept being in a loving relationship.
Many authors, perhaps to try to sell more books to a certain mindset, will fill pages with lots of explicit sex. I avoid those books. However, Elin Peer combines open and honest dialogue – true to character – with limited, consensual and explicit scenes of passion which convey an intimacy and an expressed or as yet unexpressed feeling of love that is instrumental to the story. Her descriptiveness may not be to everyone’s liking but I cannot fault her for her realistic writing. Even when her writing reflects on a darker side, it is always with the purpose of understanding and showing insight and a pathway to overcoming one’s worst fears.
Having said that, this book is well written, nicely paced, and with a suspenseful subplot, as well. It certainly held my interest and came to a satisfying conclusion. The concept of studying the personas of individuals who had been involved with a cult was very intriguing and educational to me. In fact, this is an excellent follow-up to Charlie: Cultivated #1. Anyone reading Elin Peer’s books would be entertained and enlightened.
I received an arc and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Words can not express how great this book is. Elin has written another book I couldn’t put down. Another story that grabs you and pulls you right into it.
Atlas and Jolene are the perfect couple. All that they go through to be together is simply amazing. You truly need to read this one. I promise you won’t be able to put it down
As Ms. Peer’s work always does, I was drawn to the characters in this second Cultivated novel. I always feel like I know the characters so well. I feel what they feel. I’m hopeful, I’m discouraged, I’m sad, happy, warm and fuzzy. Ms. Peer knows how to make her readers FEEL! An exciting plot surrounds how Jolene meets Atlas, and it’s carried throughout the book. I didn’t want the story to come to an end, but as with the Men of the North series, I know we’ll see these beloved characters throughout the series. I’m looking forward to Lumi and Damian’s story too! This is a definite must read!
This new series started out on a high note and with book two we continue to soar. These books are your typical romance stories. They have sustenance as well as a sweet romance. There is a depth to them as they tackle the subject of cults. Jolene is the perfect match for Atlas. She’s the yin to his yang and you can’t help but root for them as you follow their developing relationship. I highly recommend this series as I do with all of Elin Peer’s books. They are well worth it!
Congratulations Elin, you have done it again the book was awesome I couldn’t put down. When I did I could not wait to get back to. I loved that the characters were positively self reliant. But with a need to be accepted by others. Its strange then they see life is unfair how people look over gravity of a situation when its some one else. Except when it thier own.
This one was hard for me. This author has ways of stretching me as a reader and that’s why I continue to devour her reads without even looking at the blurb. There’s no need to because I know that one way or another it will be a compelling read with characters that she unfolds and bares in all of their pieces to you. There is always so much more to her stories than the blurb can ever elude to so why waste my time. Time and time again she takes me to places I never imagined and introduces me to characters that boggle the mind.
Atlas and his “family” firmly fit into this. In the first book of this intermixed standalone series we get what we think is a glimpse but in reality is the catalyst. Now as adults we meet the survivors. And that’s exactly what they are doing, surviving and existing the best way they can. He is driven to understand, not only his father but the why, and mentality of people who find themselves in cults. Trying to not only understand his urges but to prove he isn’t like his father. She is running from a stalker who has made her life hell. Both of them running from something find themselves together.
Their individual stories and history compel them towards each other, his dark fantasies and his fear of repercussions keep him in check for a minute. Once the gloves are off and they venture in their passion is hot, explosive, his need to dominate, her willingness to submit. Is this my type of read? No. What it is I can honestly say it is why I continue to read this authors work. All of the layers make for an excellent read even if it’s not the type of activity I enjoy reading about, the activity is what you would accept from these characters. This is why I am a fan.
Jolene is a psychologist who works in a California school district but has been forced by a psychotic man to leave the state to escape. She applies to a small research company that is owned by Atlas, who is also VP of research for Solver Industries. This is an exciting book with a couple of subplots that keep the reader on the edge of her seat wondering if there is a HEA possible with Atlas continually outsmarting himself all to find out Jolene was the one who made a wrong assumption! Another Elin Peer great read.
Atlas, the oldest surviving child of his fathers cult, is a conflicted man. His memories of his father and his fear of being just like him are ruining his life, he doesn’t let anyone into his life for fear of harming them. He is a successful businessman albeit a lonely one. He hires a young, kind lady named Jolene, to some research for one of his companies. This is their story. Once again, Elin Peer writes a fascinating yet disturbing novel, it discusses the lasting effects of events from our childhood and how they affect us as adults.
Received ARC copy for my honest review.
A Fantastic read that was intriguing right from the start to finish. I love Jolenes personality and the way her and the character Atlas comes to fruition. This Author has done a fantastic job on the world building this is definitely a must read. There are twists and turns that I didn’t see coming.

Conner O’Brien might be dead but his legacy of death and horror still lives on. All of his children are still scared in one way or another. Atlas Robertson is obsessed with finding out what makes people join cults. He is freaked out by the darkness in himself. Jolene Fisher goes to work for him to interview ex cult members. She’s also running from a serious threat. This series is heartbreaking and uplifting to see these gifted children grow up and overcome being raised by a monster. One of the reasons I love Ms. Peers writing is it is they are definitely not run of the mill. She always puts in her own unique perspective that make her books stand out. Another winner you wont want to miss. Lumi and Damian’s book is next and I cannot wait.
Elin Peer has done it again with this second book in the series. Sexy, witty, well written story. Read it to see if Atlas really is the monster he thinks he is. A great read!
