People think that I’m a nice guy. They’re wrong! What they see is the polished, non-threatening, good guy that I want them to see.It helps distract them from the darkness within me.No one can know that I have a sick mind like my dad, the infamous monster from the Red Manor Cult. Except, unlike him, I suppress my urge to dominate, hurt, and control. Every day, I tell myself that I’m NOT my father; … myself that I’m NOT my father; that I’m a better man.
But after Jolene began working for me, my control is slipping.
It feels like there’s a wolf inside me, stirring, growling, and pushing to get to Jolene. The fantasies of the disturbing things the wolf wants to do to her, haunts me.
I can’t allow the wolf to get control over me… or Jolene!

ATLAS – the second book in Elin Peer’s new series Cultivated
Atlas was one of the five children raised by the charismatic cultleader Connor O*Brien until the moment when most of the members were told to take the next step and committed a collective suicide cunningly setup by Connor.
The surviving children were adopted by Charles who was a member of the Red Manor Cult and Charlie who was sent out by his grandfather to try to free him from the grip the cult had on him.
Charles and Charlie are now married and the adopted children are young men and women who have grown up together and have successful lives of their own or….?.
They are still connected by the family ties and in a way also with the great company Charles inherited from his grandfather.
Atlas also runs a company of his own, CM Research, that tries to find out what makes a person choose to surrender to the rules of a cult and follow the leader without even questioning. He has dark and evil sides in his personality he thinks he has in his genes from Connor who is his father. He hides them well under a mask of perfection.
He hires a woman Jolene to interview people who has had experiences of being in cults also Atlas and the other children from Red Manor. Jolene has moved far from her home environment after having being threatened by a man who was put in prison because of her.
Atlas is beginning to have feelings for Jolene and so has the evil wolf inside him, who wants to submit and hurt her and have her obey all his wishes.
Atlas is afraid of getting too much involved with Jolene not sure he can handle the wolf from getting on top of him.
It takes time and courage to confront the shadows of the past and see through them and finally get to know who you are at the core and realize it is just your memories and your fear of opening up that has stopped you from finding love for yourself and others.
Elin Peer’s complex characters, Atlas and Jolene, have flaws from their pasts. From their first meeting, their flaws impact their multi-faceted impressions of each other. Their interactions cause attraction. Is the attraction for physical safety? Is the attraction physical only or something else, e.g., intellectual, emotional or spiritual? Altas wants Jolene as he fights an inner battle to avoid hurting her on all fronts. The plot has twists and turns that kept me engaged. Another great book by Elin Peer!
Atlas was one of the kids from the cult in Charlie. He was the biological son of the cult leader and with this knowledge, he thinks there is something fundamentally wrong with him.
Jolene joins his company as a psychologist while working together they discover they can help each other with their pasts.
When you read Atlas, you will not be able to put it down. The writing style that is unique to Elin Peer and the well-developed characters will have you captivated.
OMG, what can I say about Atlas? He’s bound and determined not to become his father but he can feel those emotions coming to life. Elin Peer has taken her talent and woven and emotional rollercoaster that kept me glued to the computer screen reading so quickly like it was going to leave me before I could finish. What an absolutely amazing read. An amazing story. One I’ll be recommending often.
One of the things I really love about this author’s work is that you get so much more than just a love story. Her characters are multi-faceted and have incredible depth, so much so that you feel as though they might step off the page and into your life. The plots are always amazing, avoiding all the usual cliches yet complex and thought provoking too.
Atlas is such a conflicted character, ashamed of his sexually dominant nature, convinced he’s inherited psychopathic tendencies from his father. Jolene is a wonderfully strong and determined heroine, so very real in her actions and reactions. Atlas is haunted by his past, Jolene is hunted by a very real present day threat. The question is can this unlikely pair overcome the barriers they have placed between themselves.
I found myself emotionally invested in the characters and their story, found myself caring about their lives, hopes and dreams. With several different plot strands that cleverly weave together into a rich tapestry, Atlas is one fabulous, well written, and incredibly captivating read.
Wow, what a great follow-up to the first book Charlie. Atlas is a fascinating character. It really shows how being raised in a certain environment really effects how you view things, even when you are taken out of the environment at a young age. I feel for Atlas in how he views certain things about himself because he doesn’t know that it is a normal thing for a large percent of the population. Jolene was the prefect balance to Atlas. She is a psychologist and and knows how to handle someone like him. She is strong and soft in all the ways needed. They meshed very well as a couple. I really can not wait to see where this series goes next.
Atlas and Jolene are endearing in this story. It takes place years after the devastation his father created with his cult. Atlas puts on a front but he has personal issues that he keeps suppressed that is until Jolene comes to work for him. They are an intriguing couple and there story captivates you drawing you in which is a true testament to Ms. Peer’s story telling mastery. Once you start this book you won’t be able to put it down. I loved how descriptive it is and how the characters engage our emotions which are all over the place. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Atlas – chip off of the psychopath father block?
Atlas is one of the survivors from the Red Manor cult his biological father created but has he really survived, without any effects of what happened years ago? Will Atlas’ dark thoughts turn into reality? Atlas needs to find answers and working with psychologist Jolene, he hopes to find those elusive answers, not just for him but for his siblings as well. This is Atlas and Jolene’s story – and Jolene has her own threatening issues that follow her to a new city and life.
LOVE this second book of the Cultivated series! Once again Elin Peer brings us a story with twists and turns, grabbing your attention immediately and keeping you intrigued. The progression of Atlas and Jolene’s love story is excellent and interaction with the rest of the family in the book is great. Definitely looking forward to the next book with Damian & Lumi – can’t wait!
Wow! I would say the 2nd book in this series is just as fascinating. Jolene is on the run but doesn’t really believe that is what is happening she just wants to start an new life and job in Chicago where nobody knows her name. Atlas is all grown up now running C.M. Research and looking for a new employee. Romantic thriller with suspense and action.
Enjoyed the characters and the story line was entertaining.
I was given a copy as a gift from the author without any obligation. I am providing an honest review.
This review kills me to write because I’m a huge fan of Peers. Unfortunately while the plot of Atlas was well written, one scene did drag the entirety of the book down for me. I fully understand the authors thoughts of adding into the narrative but the over decapitation was just a bit hard to swallow.
The characters are easy to enjoy despite the turmoil in which they are dealing with. The story is a bit darker than Peers books in the past, but none the less Peer does have a constancy with her series as it follows several years after Book 1. You also get to visit the cast from the previous book which helps to provide an into whats to come in the series.
This series is going to be epic! This book is a fantastic follow-up to Charlie. Atlas is a fascinating character. His past has shaped his views about life and the man he has become. He struggles with how he feels about himself. Jolene was the prefect balance to Atlas. She is a psychologist and knows how to reach past what he shows the world and what is in his heart, soul and mind. Their story will keep you glued to your reader. You will not want to put it down. You will be eager to see what happens with them. It is a must have book. They pull at you, make you think what would I do? Fantastic job by Ms. Peer with the complexity of the characters and their story. The details paint the perfect picture of the words as you read. So excited for more of this series! I am voluntarily leaving my review after reading an advance reader copy from the author. I also bought this book for my personal library.
No spoilers of any kind included.
I thought Atlas was absolutely fantastic but then again the first book in this series and every other series by Elin Peer has been fantastic as well so I don’t really know what to tell ya other than this that I love this author’s work.
So it’s going to be yes I most definitely do recommend this book to anyone who is searching for a fantastic story to climb into and get completely lost within its pages.
Sins of the father
Atlas is controlled in public but wracked with dark, dominant cravings inside. Torn between fear that he has inherited traits from his father and struggling to understand the power and hold the man had on others has affected Atlas deeply.
Jolene starts a spark in him but he fears his control will slip around her but when danger stalks and threatens Jolene their relationship morphs and the balance of power shifts to lovers and Dom/sub.
Danger, suspense, heat, chemistry, healing and great characters pull you in and keep you intrigued till the last page.
Excellent – If you like your romance stories smart, steamy and not contrived, this is your book. You may want to read Charlie first to have a robust understanding of the trauma Atlas and his siblings have lived through. This book shows how Atlas is coping with it and how his father’s actions are affecting him. It is still a romance with hot sex in it but it also deals with domestic abuse, bullying, and mental issues in a way that is smart and enlightening. It is an excellent read that was hard to put down. [I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.]
This book is a great story which takes place after the first book in the Cultivated series, called Charlie. In Charlie readers find out about a horrible cult leader. The next books begin to explain what happens to several young people who grew up in the cult. The first child is the main character of this book, Atlas. Atlas has begun to research cults to try to understand his horrible experiences. Along the way, readers are exposed to discussions of why people join a cult, why they follow the orders of the cult leader, what the group dynamics are in a cult, do cult leaders believe their own lies, and more. There is plenty of romance as Atlas falls in love with a young woman who was a school psychologist and comes to help research the cults. When she becomes threatened by the parent of a young boy she helped, Atlas has to protect her. It is an exciting, suspenseful romance. I highly recommend it!
To the world Atlas has moved on from his childhood trauma and made a success of his life, but he is fighting an inner battle and trying to suppress his dark side. When he employs Jolene as the new psychologist for his research he cannot keep the dark side hidden anymore. I love to read Elin Peer’s books. Her books always have a captivating story line, everyday real-life issues, complicated but interesting and relatable characters and heartwarming romance. The Cultivated series is worth the read!
Another great series. It only takes a few pages and i am hooked. This series is about the lives of the characters and continues for the rest of the books in the series. They deal with the children and how they grow from their experiences. Once i start Elin’s books I cant put them down. I follow her books from the very beginming
Elin Peer must write with a magic wand. She brings her characters to life and it’s a jolt to remember that you’re reading fiction. Nevertheless, their happiness and grief is so real, you feel it, too.
It’s been said that the most difficult journey is the journey inward. Atlas takes the journey, as most of us must, in order to spiritually heal. His journey is the all-absorbing story and why I’ve given it five stars.
Trust me when I suggest you read it. You won’t be sorry.
The characters were written with such great detail and depth, the storyline was well written and the plot flowed smoothly from page to page which kept me totally engaged throughout the entire book!
Where do I start?
From Dolly Parton to Fifty Shades.
Atlas has been scarred by the actions and proclivities of his father. So, naturally, he’s repressed his dark side, who he identifies as his wolf. The side that needs to dominate a woman in bed.
Jolene is a psychologist who works for him. She helps him explore, understand and accept his own propensities. And her own in the process.
This is how grown up relationships work, people. With true communication and trust and acceptance and blind faith.
Elin Peer has done it again.
Highly recommended.
