Violet Winters once had it all but lost it when her husband was murdered by a criminal madman. During a cold winter night Violet has to leave her warm bed to tell her neighbor to turn the music down. And that’s when she meets sinister, scarred, scarily attractive security specialist, Joe Callahan. She wants to deny it, but Violet can’t beat back the hunger she feels for Joe so she gives in again … in again and again. Feeling it himself, Joe feeds Vi’s hunger, breaking his own rules to keep her in his bed.
Even though Violet had only one man in her life, she’s sure Joe is giving her the signals and Vi decides she’s ready to take a second chance at life and, maybe, love. But Violet doesn’t know the dark secrets in Joe’s past, secrets so soul-wrenching, they’ve drained him dry. With nothing left to give, Joe’s determined to live his life alone and he breaks Violet’s heart.
Crushed by Joe’s betrayal, Violet comes to terms with the fact that, no matter what signals he gave, Joe was not theirs to win. But Violet’s husband’s murderer is obsessed with her and heartbreak again haunts the door of the Winters home. When it does Joe is forced to face the knowledge that he can’t fight Violet’s pull, she’s under his skin and filled him full to bursting.
Joe needs to win her back and put his life on the line to keep Violet safe. But, having had it all once, can Violet endure losing Joe?

Great book! It’s one I always have on my re-read list!
I have read this more than once. I just love the characters. They are quirky and I can just imagine them in my neighborhood. I would want to know them. Excellent reading!
I loved Joe and Violet slow burn suspenseful romance. You will fall in love with Joe as the story unfolds (hold on for Joe). Kristen Ashley knows how to build the romance between two characters.
loved it had to read the next story right away!
I loved everything about this book, Joe and Vi’s dynamic, her relationship with her daughters, everything. It’s a heartwarming story of second chances on both sides.
As always, I loved this book. The angst these two suffer make their romance all the better.
Something about Joe, he’s one sexy beefcake, “his lips at my ear, he murmured, “I want you in my bed tonight, buddy.” Joe obviously has his priorities straight, “might be gone two weeks, we need to eff.” I think Joe likes to drive his woman bonkers, “keep sayin’ Joe, baby, you’re makin’ me hard.” I growled, he grinned against my skin then.” When the going gets tough, Joe makes plans to take his woman away, “he turned to me and cut me off. “Fair warnin’, there’s nothin ’ there. Just the house and the beach, a coupla houses either side. Nothin’ to do but fish, cook, sleep, eat, eff and read.” As usual I loved this read I don’t think there’s been a book by Kristen that I haven’t loved.
One of my very favorite Kristen. Ashley books. Love these characters and this story.
did not like – too many details of day-to-day crap. i couldn’t even finish it
I love all of Kristen Ashley’s books!.. looking forward to her next one!
Wonderful story! Read it!!
No matter how long it takes, stay true to yourself and don’t settle. This theme from Kristen Ashley offers hope for all f us to have a HEA.
I love Kristen Ashley books. She does not disappoint with any of her books. All her books are a roller coaster ride of emotions, but they all have a happy ending. I find myself re-reading all of her books several times.
Traci
Disbelief needs to be supspended a lot. But the characters were wonderful- grew and developed through the book. Since part of the series would have liked old characters to have a part in the story more than background. Colt was there but Feb was just a placefiller and from last book know she is more than that
Love almost anything that KA writes!
Excellent read, great story, over 600 pages long and I did not want it to end. This author did an excellent job. Thank you for several hours of reading pleasure.!!
Another great story
I really enjoyed this book. Will try to find the paperback/hardcover for my elderly reading friends. This was an all night more than one tear jerk book. Thanks
Raunchy language, but sad to say probably realistic. A fantasy relationship with a very satisfying ‘wholesome?’ good girl happy ending.
Two people with very different lives come together to solve the pursuit of the man who killed Violet’s husband and brother The language is rough, even though it fits the male character
