At First Fight gives you a little taste of Jackson and Laney’s story. I want more! You meet them in Glimmer which is the authors first book. Glimmer is amazing and definitely read it first. It’s so good! I’m anxiously awaiting the next book.
Glimmer’s incandescent secondary characters get their own book!!!!
While reading Ashley Munoz’s debut book, Glimmer, (Jimmy and Ramsey’s story), I have to admit that secondary character, Laney, the crazy-ar$ed friend of Ramsey, intrigued me so much that I wrote in my reading notes that she was a character I needed to know more about. She was a fiery stick of dynamite on high heels, and was steadfast in her protection of Ramsey who’d got herself into a dangerous situation. In short, she saved her friends backside.
Jackson, Jimmy’s best friend, is a successful restaurateur back in Chicago, Jimmy’s home turf. Never has a woman wound him up so much, nor called him out on his attitude before! Then the crazy chick shows up as the best friend of Jimmy’s new girlfriend, and his head is spinning.
I loved the relationship that was happening between Laney and Jackson. Even before I read this prologue novella, I had to go back and re-cap every interaction between them in Glimmer. It wasn’t even their book, but the relationship pretty much crackled throughout the virtual pages! Now, Fade is their story.
All up, At First Fight: A Fade novella, recaps their relationship, from their own POV, and ensures that Fade is stand-a-lone book. It has also whetted my appetite for more, and I’ve pre-ordered Fade already. 5 Stars.
At First Fight is a quick read that gives you more insight into Laney and Jackson (if you read Glimmer). This was my first forage into works by Ashley Munoz and I can honestly say I had to quickly download Fade to see where this goes!!!!!!!
Oooooh! This was very enlightening….. Do you ever read a book and know that the other characters are going through their own life issues and wonder what they are? And then the author just goes right into writing a book for them that tells you nothing about what happened during the book that introduced them? Well this is the book that tells you what happened!!! I was so intrigued when I read Glimmer about the other couple that seemed to have some sparks prickling the air…. and this novella tells you what happened during the time that all was happening with Jimmy and Ramsey. I am even more excited now to get into Fade!!!
4 Cranky Stars
At First Fight is the origin story of Laney and Jackson. Laney works for a company that provides startups for businesses and she is tasked with being the project manager for Jackson Tate’s new restaurant. She didn’t expect to find a man so infuriating she doesn’t know if she should punch him or kiss him. It’s volatile at best. Jackson felt threatened by Laney mainly because she sparked something in him that he didn’t like. When Jackson becomes an enemy then a tentative friend in need him and Laney settle on a truce.
This was a quick action-packed novella with some chemistry. It’s palpable and leaps off the page. This story is needed before you start Fade. I just hope Fade can live up to the chemistry and drama that this story brought. I’m excited to get started!
