Love is not always easy it involves trust and commitment. The two people have to want to work at it from the start if they want something that lasts. Both Adam and Mia are tested in book 2 and it is their love for one another that will get them through all the trials and tribulations they face. They met thanks to the gaming world and it is through this platform they aquire what it takes to make their love last. Adam and Mia are the best type of characters because they are relatable. We have all felt what they fell and that is why this book touched a cord with me and I still find myself re-reading it form time to time. Great book!!
4.5 stars
This is book 2 in Aubrey’s Gaming the System series. While this is the first I’ve read / listened in this series, I would recommend doing this series in order as there are things mentioned that I feel like I missed out on – BUT even will that said I absolutely loved this listen overall. Clarke does amazing job with the narration – smooth and easy to listen to – loved it! Also with this story being told from the male main character Adam’s perspective it was just a perfect narration. An interesting storyline with both our main characters (Adam and Mia) struggling with control, communication and secrets. A great balance on angst, romance and steam. Well written storyline that had a good flow. I loved this geeky world, that’s so normalized in this book. The sci-fi, D&D ect refences were so fun (even if I don’t know that world all that much – I didn’t feel left out). I’m left dangling a bit off a cliff but not so much that I don’t feel satisfied with the ending but enough that I am eager for more on these two.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

5 stars for the audiobook
I don’t like a lot of angst and I was afraid that At Any Turn would be a frustrating rollercoaster of relationship drama. Fortunately, it was not. There was a lot of angst, but it was more of a slow build back to the relationship that I found much more tolerable. The book was really well written and includes some creative descriptions for feelings and situations. I liked the touch of Harry Potter humor in what was otherwise an emotional scene.
I listened to the audiobook. Jason Clarke is a supremely talented narrator. I love that he creates distinct voices for each of the different people. He brings the characters to life with the way he conveys their emotions. The angst in the book almost seems worth it when you can hear the frustration, the tears and regret spoken in the character’s words. The audiobook is very well done, and I’m looking forward to the next in the series.
At Any Turn continues with Adam and Mia’s emotional, and sizzling romance. This story picks up where book one left off. Everything is wonderful as Adam and Mia are starting a new and happy life together. Suddenly Mia seems to be pulling away, and Adam wants to do whatever he can to help her. Mia is headstrong, wanting to make her own decisions. When Adam takes over, Mia is furious. No matter how hard Adam tries, he just makes things worse and Mia just pulls further away. It goes against everything he is to let Mia go, but he will do whatever it takes to win her back. This was a very frustrating story for me. I felt so bad for Adam, and confused by Mia’s actions. Even tho I could feel how much she wanted to be with Adam, she had her own turmoil that she needed to figure out on her own first. Is their new love strong enough to endure this heartrending impasse?
Jason Clarke narrates this emotional, and steamy romance. He does a great job evolving Adam and Mia’s turbulant relationship thru their rollercoaster journey making me feel all the angst, heartbreak, and passion they felt. The ending left me stunned and needing more.
This is the second book for Adam and Amelia. After settling into a life together in the first book they start to have some issues because of their difference in life goals. They drift further apart as more issues and secrets come between them. I really loved the first book in this series, but, unfortunately, I didn’t think this book was necessary. It was well written and gives you a lot of feels. The author definitely takes you for a roller coaster ride of emotions. However the actions of Amelia and Adam seemed so out of character for them. It felt like a completely new couple, and I think I would have liked it more if it had been. This book just wasn’t my cup of tea. This does end on cliffhanger, so be warned.
Audio review
I have loved every word of this second book of Gaming the System. The game of life is becoming even harder and more complex, playing havoc with the lives of Adam and Amelia. Jason Clarke’s narration is superb. Empathetic, sensitive, rich. His tone, delivery and ability to tell a story is outstanding. This has been a wonderful listen.
A Compelling & Heartfelt Story! Fantastic Audible Listen
At Any Turn
Gaming the System, Book 2
By: Brenna Aubrey
Narrated by: Jason Clarke
Brenna Aubrey delivers another fantastic novel in her awesome “Gaming the System” series. This book, like the first, grabbed my attention immediately and held it all the way to the endThis book picks up right after the first one ends and is a continuation of Adam and Mia’s story. Everything is going well for the two, they are living together she finally took and aced her GMATs and is waiting to hear back from the Medical schools she applied to. Adam wants her to stay local but Mia’s dream school is on the east coast. This creates friction in their relationship because Adam being Adam needs to be in control of everything. He treats all challenges like it is war, using the same method of thinking to win the war/challenge. Mia has a mind of her own and does not want to feel like she is be manipulated. I wanted to knock these two on the sides of their heads to knock some sense into them. Adam screws up and then Mia, it is like they are pushing each other away without even trying or realizing it. This book is way more angsty than the first book, I think these two are great for each other and perfect together but they are their own worst enemies at times. Some outside sources are no help either, I wanted to kick Jordan’s butt a few times, Adam meddling CFO. My heart was breaking for Adam and Mia and when they finally opened up to each other all the emotions just pour out. This story is greatly plotted and there is never a dull moment, with plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt and emotional moments, hot romance as well as some gaming action. Brenna Aubrey, thank you for another great story and emotional rollercoaster ride, I am looking foreword to what comes next for Mia and Adam.
I listened to the Audible edition, Stephen Dexter is a fabulous narrator and voice artist. He is awesome at portraying the characters, humanizing them with their voices, personality as well as all their emotions which is reflected in his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the another great listen
This is the second book in the Gaming the System Series. At Any Turn is the second installment in Adam and Mia’s trilogy. The story continues where the first book left off. They could be perfect together, but they need to work on their ability to communicate! They are both stubborn, emotionally immature, and frustrating. The storyline is slow paced, and emotional, filled with secrets, angst, and mistrust. The story ends with a cliffhanger. Looking forward to listen to the third installment in this series, to know what happens next. Jason Clarke did a great job with the narration.
At Any Turn
Gaming the System, Book 2
By: Brenna Aubrey
Narrated by: Jason Clarke
It happened again! Brenna Aubrey has pulled me into Mia and Adam’s life and investing my heart. This story picks up where the first one left off, and we have Adam learning there is more to life than work. Things seems really good until Mia begins getting her medical school acceptances and now life is taking a turn. But there is more than meets the eye here. And it isn’t good. Throughout their journey, I have felt all kinds of emotions. I have been head over heels in love, frustrated beyond belief and in complete chaos wondering what is happening. These two are meant to be together, and issues are getting in their way. The biggest is communication! Now with my emotions on edge, I am grabbing book 3 so I can see where their story goes. Aubrey is so talented, and I am enjoying her writing style. A little angsty, a little steamy and a story that you can sink your teeth into. It’s fantastic.
Add in Jason Clarke as the narrator, and we have magic. He brings these characters to life. This is mainly told from Adam’s point of view, and Clarke has crawled into his head and given the performance so much. He lets us understand and feel the story, leaving us wanting more.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. So I bought the second one. I wish I hadn’t. It was boring. There were way too many lengthy gaming segments that I skipped over. Mia was unlikable. They just kept repeating the same fights. The whole book was about Adam and Mia fighting. I would’ve never bought this had I known what it was going to end up being about. I thought I was reading about a billionaire auction story, not this. I don’t read books with those type of storylines because I’m a nurse and I read to escape from that stuff. And it was very evident that the author didn’t research breast cancer. Breast cancer in the early stages is usually painless. Mia would not have required injectable oxycodon. At the very least, she might have taken pills but probably not. And if a cancer patient requires multiple injections a day, they would have an injection port. And I don’t think Mia would have been drinking heavily while taking narcotics. This book started giving ME a headache near the end. I will definitely not be purchasing anymore.
Too damn long for that short of a story
This was second in series about this particular couple. This one felt too strung out, too over dramatic, just TOO much. Without giving anything away, the heroine DID NOT handle her situation well (whiny, “I need you/Stay away from me”), and the hero, while I tended to feel a little sorry for him, was totally clueless and too controlling. Will try #3 and hope for more maturity from both.
