Young Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father’s gruff stableman. He is treated as an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him secretly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz’s blood runs the magic Skill — and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his … his family.
As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.

This was my first introduction to Robin Hobb, and I absolutely loved this whole trilogy. Immediately attached to the characters and sucked into the drama — I’m an extremely picky reader, so I was thrilled to find a fantasy of this caliber.
I loved it! I immediately bought and read the next book in the series and have since read every book she has written. I’ve laughed, cried, and lost many hours reading Robin Hobbs books, and have read many of them more than once. This is the first of a series that you will love!
Robin Hobb is a masterful storyteller. I have read every one I could get my hands on. This culmination of the life of Fitz and the Fool was every bit as engaging as the others. Sad to see it end!
IMHO, Robin Hobb is one of my all time favorite fantasy authors. Her world building is alway unique and very complex. In this series we have the enigmatic fool, who we are never sure is what he seems. Throw in a conflicted prince with an extremely odd daughter and you have a fast moving story that always ends to soon. Love this series!!
Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb is a novel I have seen for years at bookstores. I always thought it was a typical epic fantasy novel for some time and never picked it up. Until now.
What changed? I was looking on Instagram a few weeks ago and came across Robin Hobb’s page. I read the comments on a post featuring the novel. The fan response …
This is one my favorite books of all time. Robin Hobb is a master at story, character, and world development.
This book is the first in a series that has been a constant in my life. I regularly reread them.. Cannot recommend them enough.
The first in the series and a wonderful beginning a 5 Star read.
i have read and reread the whole series so many time , it is a really great story
This is my very favorite Fantasy series. The main character, Fitz, has stayed with me now for years. Last year I read the last books, (unless she starts again with Bee as the protagonist), and I hated the end, just because I knew I was saying goodbye forever to Fitz. ( By the way, loved him finding Nosy after all those years!)
Good book from a good fantasy series.
This is a great series. I highly recommend anything by Robin Hobb!
Read this some time ago, but remember fondly–Great series.
Love… got me reading again.
I found this book boring. Good characters, good environment, all the ingredients for a good fantasy novel. But, nothing really happens over many, many pages.
Really like the series that this is part of
I really enjoyed this book.
Great series but not an everything works out and no one dies happily ever after tale.
So this is the first book in the Farseer trilogy, I first heard of this book from a youtube channel called Sam’s Nonsense and she loves Robin Hobb and she did an author spotlight video where she talked about Robin Hobb’s books and since then I got more curious about this book series so I finally decided to pick it up! I’ve not read many high …
Good story doesn’t go for the obvious plot turns. All 3 books in this series are good.
