I was only trying to help a friend. I swear. I was legit asking for a friend who was finally ready to date again.I knew what she wanted in a man — smart, funny, ambitious, well-read (no, the sports section doesn’t count), and plays a wicked game of badminton. So I did what any good friend would do. Posted it for her. It seemed like a good idea at the time — I’d weed through the candidates, and … candidates, and bring her my top picks.
But then he responded.
Is it wrong to date the guy I screened for my bestie? Not asking for a friend.
Indulge in the BOYFRIEND MATERIAL series! Three best friends. Three outrageous proposals. Three chances to fall in love. Three brand new standalones from Lauren Blakely!

Aah, what a sweet, angst free romantic comedy. Cute characters, a brilliantly concocted storyline that was sweet, funny, romantic and sexy, all rolled into one perfect read. Friends to lovers, office romance, all centred around books and reading, I loved it. A romance that neither Linc or Amy want, a romance that they try their hardest to avoid, but it seems the harder they try to ignore it, the more the universe plots against them. Funny, addictive and sweet. It would appear that true love waits for no one, and I can assure you, these two were made for each other. Not a mean bone in either of their bodies, they’re flirty, they’re honest, they’re adorable. Wonderful characters, some great cameos, and I just loved the epilogues, all of them. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
I received a review copy before release for an honest review.
This is part of a new series but also features characters from a previous series. It stars Amy who if you remember is the sister of Josh from Overnight Service and Quinn’s sister from Special Delivery.
In this story we move into the publishing world where she meets her new coworker Linc. They both fall into insta-lust but Linc wants to avoid work entanglements and Amy feels her life is very busy and instead she needs to help her best friend find a guy.
So she enters the online dating world. Linc knows he needs to date away from work so he too enters the online dating world. And that’s how Asking for Friend meets this guy she really likes. I LOVED that Linc actually figures it out and is pretty honest about that.
This is a romance at work story with a tiny bit of online dating. Both characters are great and I loved how honest they are about each other and with each other. I would have prob enjoyed a faster paced story but this story read a little slower than the stories in the other connected series. That said its a fun romance and I loved it.
What fun! The chemistry between editors Linc & Amy is amazing but as usual they are the last to admit any feelings are felt, wether they be obvious or hidden. And a serious conversation between them, well, they’re there if you can decipher them from between all the crazy bantering.
Linc has moved his job to start over after an office romance gone bad, he’ll never do that again. Then he meets Amy, he tries to with hold his feelings but for Linc the attraction is immediate, he has to keep it secret and sign’s up on a dating web site.
Amy loves her work and will always take it first over romance, but the new guy Linc is so dishy she’s finding it hard to concentrate on her main goal, the new position in their company that’s opening up. Her best friend was helped on a dating site, Amy decides to join too and then promptly falls for the mysterious guy she’s messaging.
She loves talking to this guy, who is he? And Linc, her feelings have changed and she really likes him too.
Lauren’s couples are alway so complex and the stories so much fun. An excellent book and a definite must read.
This is the story of two coworkers that want to focus on their careers and don’t want office entanglements, but can’t deny the attraction that sprouts as soon as they meet. Of course, fate will work its way and the romance will flourish despite their best attempts to stay away from each other.
There was so much to love about this book and don’t even know where to start. Linc and Amy are both book lovers, smart and sarcastic and it all shows in the great banter they have since the very beginning. I really liked the characters, the storyline, the use of words and word play and every little morsel of this book.
Linc and Amy make a great couple, but I have to admit I feel she is one of the best characters Ms. Blakely has penned to date. Her personality, the way she tackles her weakness head on and how she goes after what she wants really make her the best one yet IMHO.
The story is fun and flirty, fast paced and just another sunshiny, feel-good romance hit for the author.
Loved this book! Linc & Amy are the cutest couple! I absolutely loved their banter & the sweet way they were to each other.
There is so much to love about this first book in Blakely’s new Boyfriend Material series! It is hilarious, hot & steamy and a new sexy nerdy hero that you can’t help but fall in love with. Amy Summers is a book loving, junior editor, who wants to help create great literature. When she meets a new sexy, coworker who is a Clark Kent lookalike, the sparks really fly. But neither wants the entanglement dating a coworker would create. Amy isn’t looking for love, and wants to help her friend, Peyton, by building a profile for her on a dating site. Swoony senior editor, Linc Silvers, can’t help flirting with Amy, so to help him find someone outside of work, he coincidentally decides to build a profile on the Boyfriend Material dating app as well. He soon discovers the perfect match and wishes it could be the smart, funny, Amy. Amy is trying to help her friend but can’t help finding a super ‘man’ for herself. I loved Amy and Linc so much. They are so perfect together with their quick banter, love of books, and explosive chemistry. I also enjoyed catching up with past friends and family, and meeting new friends as well. This is such a clever, fun & flirty romance and a great start to Blakely’s new Boyfriend Material series. I can’t wait for Peyton and Tristan’s story next!
This book was right up my alley!
I couldn’t have loved this book more if I had written it myself. It’s a terrific romance with just enough steam and loads of heart, and the particular avocation of the main characters was one I could wholeheartedly identify with. Both Linc and Amy are editors at the same publishing house, and boy, do the sparks fly once they each realize the other is also a skilled wordsmith and fellow logophile. Clearly the author is as well, and for that she has my undying, eternal devotion as a faithful reader.
The wrinkle is that they each have strong, personal reasons to avoid a workplace romance, so theirs is a rather circuitous route to their HEA. Rest assured, however, that the journey is well worth every delicious word, every wickedly clever barb, every delightfully witty exchange of banter. I laughed out loud throughout the book, starting from the perfect opening line:
“A thesaurus is a girl’s most satisfying lover.”
And right on through to the very relatable explanation of the developing emotions:
“Lust and passion and respect and joy have hopped into the feelings blender and mixed themselves into a new and effervescent concoction.”
If you love words, even just a tiny bit, this is the romance you’ll want to read again and again. I know I will. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This was so much better than I expected and it was so funny I couldn’t stop laughing. It was witty, funny, sexy, and I couldn’t put it down. It felt like so much more than a story. I was so engrossed I could feel myself there and I could relate to the characters. Such a great story!
Linc and Amy, you could feel the chemistry coming out of the book from the start. They are two book nerds who are trying to focus on their careers when they find each other.
I loved how many different uses of verbiage there was in this book. Amy was witty and funny and fun. Linc was more serious but had wit to him as well.
If you are looking for a story of two every day people then this is the book for you! I highly recommend it!
Received ARC for honest review.
A hot new series by Lauren Blakely!
I’ve loved Lauren’s work for a good while now and everytime i see a new book coming out whether its a new series or a book added to a series I’m always so excited and can’t wait to get my hands on it.
I really liked Linc, having moved and starting a new job you want to make a good impression and he’s got his head set on straight but when he mets Amy the chemistry between them is like a magnetic energy pulling them together.
Amy was a easy character to like aswell, she one of those characters that you could easily see yourself being friends with someone like her.
I look forward to seeing more from this series!
This is online dating with a twist…or maybe a couple of twists.
Amy Summers is a book nerd who loves words and takes her job as a Junior Editor seriously. She is working towards a promotion at work and trying to be more confident and sell herself. She is sassy, verbally expressive, sweet, and smart.
Linc Silvers comes strolling in as the new Senior Editor and new office hottie. He is also fun, eloquent, intelligent, and easy to get along with. So easy that they develop fun banter and repartee. And both are kind of crushing but avoiding because they have their own reasons for no workplace romances.
Amy decides to help her friend, Peyton find a new man with a local online dating profile. The awesome profile she wrote receives a lot of attention, but one stands out. And messaging with him becomes quite an interesting and exciting distraction…almost as much fun as office shenanigans with Linc. But she is supposed to be shopping for her friend and not thinking of sampling the goods. And Linc is also using his own method of trying to distract himself from the allure of office Amy. But neither can stop thinking about the other.
So it is a bit of a mess with online anonymity, office rules, personal resolutions, and lots of fast-flying messages. I really adored these two. Their banter and chemistry are fantastic. They bring the flirt and fun…spark and sizzle…and wit and words. They have reasons not to get involved, but also so many things they have in common. But Linc…oh my…he is everything. He is the hot nerd with wonderful words…charming and chatty…sexy and sweet. And Amy is so funny, quick-witted, and entertaining. They just light up the pages. But they are also mature and actually communicate, which is refreshing.
This is a rom-com full of heart, soul, smiles, and swoon. I enjoyed the dual points of view. I really liked her friend, Peyton too and hope we see more of her. I also really appreciated his new buddy, Baldwin. Both of their siblings and friend groups added more layers and laughs. And it is always fun to see some cameos and little connections from the Lauren Blakely world.
ASKING FOR A FRIEND by Lauren Blakely is the First book in the Boyfriend Material Series. This is the story of Amy Summers and Linc Silvers.
Linc has moved into town and taken the Senior Editor Job where Amy works as the Junior Editor. Linc is working to start fresh in a new town and job so he has no plans to get involved with a co-worker. With that mind set is starting to leave him once he spots Amy. Amy is nerdy so this editorial job is up her alley and she wants a promotion that may come her way. So Amy isn’t going to ruin any chances she has by getting involved with a co-worker but then the new guy walks in, Linc. Working to stay strong she goes forward to look into helping her friend Peyton with finding someone. This leads her to online where she gets a hit by someone who seems perfect…for her. Linc working to resit the Amy pull has him going online.
This was a fun hot read. Looking forward to more books in the series.
ASKING FOR A FRIEND is the first instalment in Lauren Blakely’s contemporary, adult BOYFRIEND MATERIAL romance series. This is junior editor Amy Summers , and senior editor Linc Silvers story line.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Amy and Linc) ASKING FOR A FRIEND follows the forbidden relationship between junior editor Amy Summers, and senior editor Linc Silvers. Linc Silvers is the new senior editor at the New York publishing firm of Bailey and Brooks, and finds himself immediately attracted to junior editor Amy Summers, an attraction that is threatened by the company’s new ‘no-romance’ policy forcing Linc to look elsewhere using the ‘Boyfriend Material’ online app. Meanwhile, Amy’s friend Peyton has just come off a disastrous relationship and Amy takes it upon herself to find Peyton her happily ever after by weeding out the candidates on the same boyfriend app, the same app her co-worker Linc is secretly enrolled. What ensues is the back and forth text and flirting, and building relationship between Amy and Linc, texting and flirting between friends who are unaware of one another’s identity.
Meanwhile, an opening for a new senior editor finds Amy preparing to fight for a position she desperately wants, a position that is also threatened if her relationship with Linc is not brought to management’s attention.
The relationship between Linc and Amy is one of mutual attraction but our couple battle between head and heart with respect to the company’s office romance policy. The back and forth texting is flirty and fun, and suddenly familiar for our story line couple. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Amy’s co-workers Juanita, Baldwin and Rainey; Amy’s best friend Peyton; bartender Truly Goodman; competing editor Madison Turnbull; bar owner Tristan, as well several characters from some of the author’s other series and stories including Amy’s sister Quinn from the author’s Special Delivery (Always Satisfied #5). Tristan and Peyton’s story line is next in Sex and Other Shiny Objects.
ASKING FOR A FRIEND is a story of family and friendship; competition and love. The premise is captivating and engaging; the characters are energetic and fun; the romance is seductive and sweet.
What a great story. Amy and Linc clicked from the very beginning. Both Amy and Linc work for the same company and each have their reasons for not wanting to get involved in an office romance. Linc is new eye candy for both the women and men to admire at work. He has been described as Clark Kent/superman by some. Amy also has two very close friends and one of them Peyton, seems to be ready to join the dating scene again after a failed relationship. Amy has come up with a plan to find her a man by using a dating site she will monitor and vet the man for her. Linc needs a distraction to take his mind off Amy. He happens to join the same dating site Amy is using. Because both are into literature and words this makes for some great banter not only at work but with the site.Though neither knows they are talking to the other. Amy soon finds herself torn between her growing feelings for Linc and the mystery man she has been texting through the dating site. Both Amy and Linc had me wanting to know what would happen next in their story. This was a well written story and I love how they slowly start figuring out their online personas and their own lives seem to be one in the same. I loved all the supporting characters and of course I always enjoy the appearances of characters from other books in Laurn’s world.
Fabulous HEA! Can not wait for Peyton’s story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

* 5 sweet and sexy stars *
I seriously cannot get enough of Lauren Blakely’s rom-coms. Every time I think she has topped herself she goes and drops another story that makes me swoon and fall in love once again. Asking For a Friend is a fun twist on the office romance/online dating world and Blakely navigates both smoothly, giving readers another adorably fun, sweet and sexy story to love.
Amy is another in a long string of strong, quirky and beautiful Blakely heroines that truly resonated with me. She has strong bonds with her friends, she’s focused and driven and she is beloved by everyone who meets her. She’s the kind of female character that you want in your close circle of friends because you know she’ll lift you up, support you and always be rooting for you.
Linc….oh Linc! When Blakely compares him to Clark Kent and Henry Cavill, I just about fainted because…..Clark Kent/Henry Cavill! Add in a dash of brilliance, a sprinkle of charisma and a dollop of wit and you have the perfect “dish”! He can set my world on fire any day!
Together, Amy and Linc are electric. They have so much chemistry and I just loved watching them fall for one another. These two really clicked and their relationship was easy and natural. In order to reach their happy ending, Amy and Linc need to navigate certain hurdles but they do it with grace and humility. In the end, these two come out stronger than ever.
Blakely’s stellar writing is on display throughout. Her signature humor mixes perfectly with her signature steaminess to create a well-executed story that will hit all of the right notes with readers. Whether you are new to Blakely’s stories or a well-seasoned reader, you’re in for a treat with Asking For a Friend. 5 stars
What a delicious slice of banter filled fun with a cherry on the top! With totally delightful characters, visits with old friends and meeting new, Asking For a Friend is an early Christmas gift to yourself..one which isn’t just for Christmas either!!
Amy and Linc take texting to a new level of hilarity and delighted me (thank you Lauren) with word play of the funniest kind which, being a word-nerd myself, brought my smile out to play!
A lovely read and a great addition to this captivating, delectable, enchanting series..take that delightful
This book is dishy, delectable goodness! 5 stars
I immediately loved Amy in the first chapter! She was funny, sassy and smart! Linc was also funny and smart plus dreamy. They instantly clicked, and I could not wait to see how their relationship developed throughout the book. Lauren Blakely knows how to make me laugh out loud, and this book is no exception. Additionally, she was such a wordsmith in this book! I thoroughly enjoyed this dishy, delectable book and highly recommend it!
I received a copy of this ebook from Candi Kane PR for my honest review.
Amy Summers: Everything that is Right in a RomCom.
I don’t read many books where the hero feels like a secondary character, but Asking for a Friend seems like that. Amy is EPIC in a mega galactic fashion, which means that Superman becomes an afterthought. This cake obsessed Betty Boop is all Linc Silvers thinks about, and this chick should take up real estate in everyone’s mind. It certainly doesn’t hurt those things she loves, the obsessions she has, and her random outbursts run along similar tracks as mine.
Vote for Amy!
Pajamas do need advocacy, and I believe Amy will fight for justice and appreciation for the fantabulousness of super casualwear.
Linc Silver is a Los Angeles transplant who just escaped a sticky situation common to SoCal’s dual desire to eat one’s cake and have it too. He is looking for a new start; some success in doing something for which he is passionate would be good also. So he’s traded tacos for hotdogs. A metaphor for something, I’m sure, but I don’t know what it might be. I can assure you that the idea that hotdogs could EVER outshine tacos is the worst fiction in this entire book.
Amy and Linc are coworkers who experience a ‘he/she could be the one’ moment upon first glance. The two adore one another: sharing witty repartee every time they run into one another followed up with cow-eyed flirtations. Linc is swept clear off his feet by Amy’s wacky/sassy charm. And he might have been a good love interest for any other book girlfriend, but he becomes wallpaper as she outshone him on every page.
One thing about this book that drove me crazy is that Lauren Blakely name drops throughout the book in a way that is somewhat disorienting in that real and fictional references were hard to discern. I wasn’t sure at any point if I should know the people mentioned as notable celebrities or made-up players. And further mind aching is that she mentions tv shows I think need to exist if they don’t already. Spying on the Neighbors is something I want to watch.
All in all, I hope I get an ARC for the next book in this series, Sex and Other Shiny Objects that revolves around Amy’s BFF Peyton and the local restaurant owner with a sexy beard, Tristan.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary advance copy of this book.
Linc Silvers has moved from across the country from LA to New York for a new job and a new start, his new job has to be his main focus he needs to be successful however when he meets his new co worker Amy Summers he finds his mind wandering …… Amy’s job is also important to her but the instant attraction this couple feel can’t be overlooked.
This is a fun entertaining read that ticked all my boxes, I laughed, I swooned, I cried happy tears and I sighed a lot, the flirty witty banter and the sizzling chemistry this couple share is perfect and I found it easy to connect to both Linc and Amy. This author certainly knows what her readers love and Asking for a Friend certainly gives you everything you want in a romantic comedy. I loved everything about this book and I’m sure you will to so please one click this must read.
I LOVED this story. I read it all in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down.
Amy is a junior editor. She is amazing at her job, at promoting the good in others. So when one of her best friends is ready to get back into the dating scene, she creates a profile. Only fate has a different idea. Linc is new to the city, he works with Amy. There is a connection between these two from the very start. However, Linc doesn’t do workplace romances.
The chemistry between Amy and Linc is amazing from the start. Their banter is fantastic and will have you swooning and laughing all at the same time. Amy is quirky, smart, hilarious and the woman loves cake. Sign me up to be her best friend! Linc is dreamy. He is smart, hilarious and well read. How can you not love a man like that.
Asking For a Friend is the first book in an all new series and after meeting some of the secondary characters in this story I can’t wait for more of this crew. There is also some cross over from previous stories from Lauren Blakely, which is always amazing to see some characters from the past pop in.
This book is a MUST READ. It was a super fun read that will have you fanning yourself, laughing out loud and swooning from the very start.
